Throughout this entire series, we have studied David’s journey fleeing from persecution, finding refuge in a cave and, eventually, finding freedom in his new authority. By following David’s life, we can find the path to freedom from the struggles that bind us. In the last week of “Cave for a King”, Pastor Kevin gives us three practices from the life of David to help us find freedom in the cave. 

Before he became a king, David had to persevere through persecution. It was during that time, hiding in a cave, that God prepared David for His plans.  We all need a place like David, but finding our way to the cave can be difficult. In week three of “Cave for a King”, Pastor Kevin teaches from Psalm 57 where David gives his turn-by-turn instructions on how to find a cave – and more importantly – on how to find the merciful King of Kings in the cave. 

Perspective shapes everything we do, and nobody understood this better than David during his time in the cave of Adullam. In this message we dive into Psalm 34, which was forged in the crucible of refuge and adversity, and learn five powerful lessons on gaining true perspective. In this message, discover how recognizing God as the main character in your story can transform your life. By seeking God in our private moments we can find a renewed sense of purpose and joy, grounded in the truth of God’s unwavering faithfulness. 

Years after his battle with Goliath, David had to flee for his life from King Saul, finding refuge in a cave. David went into the cave a kid and came out a king. In the first week of our “Cave for a King” series, Pastor Kevin makes a case for why we each need a “cave” – a place to step away and spend time with God.  Time in a cave doesn’t change our circumstances, but it does change us. 

For Mother’s Day service, we got to hear a roundtable discussion with Rea Queen and five other Cross Point moms. In both this discussion and in Rea’s teaching, we learn how we can escape the rhythms of hurry, worry and weary by sitting at the feet of Jesus and seeking His presence. Pulling from Matthew 11:28 and Luke 10:38-42, this is a service for moms AND for everyone else!

In the last week of our “About Time” series, Pastor Kevin wraps up our study of Jacob in Genesis.  God took Jacob back to the place of his greatest regret in order to heal him, because hidden wounds are the ones that never heal.  Jacob’s story reminds us that God uses broken people, because the true hero of the story is God’s grace. 

We live in a culture that tells us waiting time is wasted time; we resist boredom at all costs. In week four of “About Time”, Pastor Kevin teaches about how God uses waiting to deepen Jacob’s trust. The work that God does within us while we wait is just as important as whatever we are waiting for – even when we are waiting, God is working.

We all have unmet expectations in our lives that lead to us feeling disappointed. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the regrets of our past, but an encounter with God can transform our disappointments to something new. Even when we are not looking for God, He is looking for us – He is not disinterested in our disappointment.

In week two of About Time, Pastor Kevin teaches how to fight against the lie that we should be further in life by a certain time. Instead, we want our time to matter for what matters most.

In a world where busyness can seem the normality, we rush from task to task, often filling our lives with the urgent, rather than the important. Is this the legacy we want to leave, or can we realign our lives with a greater purpose?  In this series we’re unpacking the story of Jacob; a biblical hero whose final obituary stood in sharp contrast to the realities of his earlier years.  In this message we’ll learn about the steps Jacob took, and the way he allowed God to reshape his story. Through this ancient text we’ll unpack subjects that are just as relevant today; like comparison and purpose, and the value of learning from pivotal moments. We will discover from Jacob how to ensure our final sentence aligns with our true values, and points other to the presence of God.

What you believe shapes how you see the world. 2000 years ago, eternity was changed when Jesus stepped out of the garden tomb. We read the story of Easter that we may believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that by believing, we may have life in His name. Together, we celebrate Easter. Do you believe?

In our last week of Words to Live By, Pastor Kevin teaches us the final phrase that all people want to hear, “thank you”.  In this message, we study a story in the Bible where gratitude proceeds a miracle. Let’s not miss the miracles by taking things for granted.  Our God notices a grateful heart. 

In week three of Words to Live By, David Nasser shared a powerful message about how choosing to forgive is an opportunity for you to allow love to prosper by letting go. It’s time to release the things that hold you back from true celebration and joy.

At the end of our lives, there are four phrases that we all long to hear. In week two of Words to Live By, Pastor Kevin shared about the second phrase… “I’m sorry”.  We don’t apologize to others to be made right with God, we apologize because we have been made right with God – even when we don’t deserve it. 

At the end of our lives, there are four phrases that everyone wants to hear, the first being “I love you.” In the first weeks of our “Words to Live By” series, Pastor James talks about making love a priority in our lives today, not just at the end of our lives. 

In the last week of our Awaken series, Pastor Kevin shares how Jesus flipped the rules that the world had written about acceptance. The natural tendency of any group is to turn focus inward, focusing on the “insiders” and ignoring the “outsiders. Jesus’ life shows us that His supernatural tendency is to bring the outsiders in, and in turn, calls us to do the same.

As we read through the book of Acts, we see examples of the apostles being set free from imprisonment in the darkest parts of the night when it seemed like all was lost. In week three of Awaken, Pastor Kevin shares how we can find freedom in the pits of despair. When the night seems darkest, prayer is your weapon and your song is your strength.

Many people have opinions about what makes a church influential, but God’s way of influence isn’t like the world’s version, or even the version of influence we’ve deemed as important in modern-day Christianity.  As we study the book of Acts in this season of Awaken, Pastor Kevin unpacks how we can continue be an influential church and influential people, based on the way the early church was influential for the Gospel.

In the first week of our Awaken series, Pastor Kevin teaches about the pouring out of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts – and what that means for us today. The Holy Spirit is known as the Comforter, not because the Christian life is supposed to be comfortable, but because we are invited to experience the uncomfortable and grow through it – from restlessness to fullness. For our last week of Here & Now, Pastor James closed out the series with a teaching about overcoming criticism.  We have grown so comfortable criticizing ourselves and others that, often, it becomes our method of dealing with pain or fear. But when we replace our criticism with curiosity for what God thinks about us, it opens our eyes to see that He is not a critical God.

If you lead anyone or anything in your life, you will experience pain. Passion is what gets you to persevere through that inevitable pain, but patient endurance is what keeps you going beyond that pain.  In this week’s message, Pastor Kevin teaches on how, with Jesus, we can persevere in life, in pain, in relationships — in anything that feels hard, with patient endurance. In our Here & Now series, we’ve been talking about focusing our eyes on Jesus, as we run the race of life. Running the race of life isn’t a singular activity, though, it’s something we need others doing alongside us.  All of Heaven is cheering for you in life, but Heaven is not enough — we need the Spirit inside of us, and people beside us.
