There is a principle in life that the Bible teaches called the law of “sowing and reaping.” It’s particularly true for Christians who have a choice about whether they will feed their spirit or their flesh. The spirit is that part within us that is redeemed and eternal; the flesh is unredeemed and temporary. The spirit wants to please the Lord, and the flesh wants to gratify the sinful nature. If we nurture our spiritual nature we will reap eternal life. But if we nurture our fleshly nature, we will reap destruction. When a person becomes a Christian, a battle begins between the flesh and the spirit. The flesh is that part of our lives that desires sinful things; the spirit is that part of our lives that wants to glorify God. Our flesh always wants to dominate, but the Bible tells us to die to self and live in the spirit. Paul writes about this spiritual battle in Galatians 5, and he gives us three practical ways we can win the war within. There are many differences among people—including ethnic, socio-economic, and biological differences. But that does not matter when it comes to our standing in Christ. Paul says that all Believers are ONE in Christ. But the culture views things differently. The culture either denies our differences altogether or exploits our differences to divide people through class warfare and race-baiting. But the church should be the most diverse and unified group of any people on the planet. Join us for today’s Bible study, “One in Christ.”
