Ep 602Listener Questions
This week's bonus podcast is a listener question segment! Firstly, we ponder which existing character could be Corrie's next villain. We've seen a handful of goodies turn bad in recent years - Gary and Stephen being the most obvious examples - but who else could we see turning to the dark side? Next up, we chat about characters who rarely interact with each other but who we think could be interest to watch teaming up to meet some kind of shared goal. That might mean potential business partners, a pair to solve a mystery a duo who we think might have shared interests or principles.. or maybe we just think they'd work well on screen together!
Ep 601Conversation Street Episode 601
In our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about what went on in Weatherfield between the 6th and the 10th November 2023 (Episodes #11103 - 11108). We love a hyped up, 'special' week of Corrie as much as the next fan, but sometimes, an episode comes along out of the blue that completely catches you off guard and blows you away with its unexpected brilliance, and Friday's trip to Weatherfield was absolutely that. Throughout the story of Paul's heartbreaking decline, Corrie has made sure to retain the lighthearted, comedic touches to balance out the darkness, and the combination of Billy and Paul's bath-time escapade and Bernie and Abi's dimly lit chat at No. 5 delivered in spades - a delight to watch and discuss for this episode of the podcast! There were other stories too this week, of course - the factory strike was a nice callback to the days of Ida Clough and co downing tools to stick it to Baldwin, and Mason is proving to be a very watchable baddie in Dylan's bullying storyline - but it's the MND story that's got us the most hooked. 6 to 12 months to go, too! BGT Week 2024 for the tragic conclusion, perhaps..? In the Kabin segment, we share our joy at the news that friend of the podcast Charlie De Melo will be appearing in one of this year's Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials, and we celebrate the ongoing success of Ellie Leach on Strictly Come Dancing - and yes, we've actually seen some of her routines this week! We finish things off with more of your fabulous feedback. Street Talk - 00:07:21 The Kabin - 02:08:30 Feedback - 02:24:19
Ep 601Gordon Clegg Character Profile
For this week's bonus podcast, we chat about the character of Gordon Clegg, following the recent passing of actor Bill Kenwright. Gordon may only have been in just over 100 episodes of Corrie over the years, but with appearances stretching between 1968 and 2012, you could certainly say he was one of the show's longest-running characters. Plus, he was the centre of one of Weatherfield's most scandalous stories of the 70s... so of course, there's plenty for us to sink our teeth into!
Ep 600Conversation Street Episode 600
On the 600th edition of the podcast, we chat about what went on in Weatherfield between the 30th October and the 3rd November (Episodes #11097 - 11102). Did anyone else absolutely love Monday's episode? The Halloween party at the Bistro, Peter and Audrey's reconciliation chat, Tim and Steve's fishing trip.. a script that ticked all the right boxes for what Corrie should be, as far as we're concerned. The rest of the week was more so-so (we did have to sit through more of the Stu and Eliza story after all), but the focus on Daniel piecing together the clues about Ryan and Daisy's time at the hotel definitely helped keep things interesting for the most part. As well as that, we had Courtney's abrupt dumping of Aadi (though Michael was sure something more sinister was afoot!), a couple of cute scenes between Sam and Hope and even little bit more Toyah - who Simon DEFINITELY seems to suspect is having an affair with Peter... All in all, it gave us plenty to chat about! Up next on the podcast is The Kabin, where we have a lengthy chat about the news that the British Soap Awards have been cancelled next year - without any proper reason being given! And are they really coming back in 2025? We're not so sure it's a given, to be honest.. Finally, we round off the show with a bit more of your fabulous feedback. Ep 600Corrie’s Grisliest Kills - Our Tier List
In this special episode streamed live on YouTube, we ranked all of Corrie's kills by just how gruesome and grisly they are - perfect for Halloween night! Over the years, Coronation Street has seen bludgeonings, stabbings, drownings, hole punchings.... and that's not even half of it! We had a great time recording this live, so please do head over to YouTube to get the full experience here!
Ep 599Conversation Street Episode 599
On our latest podcast, we share our thoughts on the episodes of Corrie shown between the 23rd and the 25th October (Episodes #11091 - 11096). Poor old DS Swain, eh? Two hot leads this week - one after a massive wodge of cash mysteriously appears in Michael's bag and another when the perp is literally seen running into someone with his car and killing them - and both walk away scot free! Yes, the debate about just how much guilt Peter should be feeling about seeing off Stephen continues to rage on this week, but even though it looks like the police won't be punishing him this time, he certainly seems to be giving himself a good flogging in his own mind... Also this week, Sam invites Hope to the Bistro's Halloween do, Courtney continues to duck out of anything that seems remotely like work, and Ryan and Daisy manage to avoid giving into their carnal desires... but for how long? There's sad news in the Kabin as we chat about the news that Corrie alumnus Bill Kenwright has passed away, and we finish off the show with more of your thoughts about last week's Corrie. Street Talk - 00:10:01 The Kabin - 02:07:55 Feedback - 02:17:16
Ep 599Todd Boyce Interview
For this episode of the podcast, we chat to Stephen Reid actor Todd Boyce, who tells us about what it was like to play the show's latest serial killer, from bashing Teddy over the head with a hole punch to drowning Rufus in the swimming pool - including how the original plans for the drowning scene were actually quite different! And in case you're wondering, yes - we make sure to get time for a bit of bin chat too!
Ep 598Conversation Street Episode 598
On our latest podcast, we chat about the aftermath of last week's Super Soap Week, covering what went on in Weatherfield between the 16th to the 18th October (Episodes #11085 - 11090). With Stephen now zipped up in a body bag and the finger of blame pointing squarely at Peter, the question on everyone's lips is, 'Should he be punished for taking a murderer's life?' There's no denying that Stephen had dropped the bottle before Peter accelerated towards him, but that certainly doesn't mean it's a cut and dry case for Swain and co - and it's great how much it's got the fans talking too! Also this week, Daisy finally drops her drawers for Ryan - it seemed inevitable, but we're certainly not happy about it! Meanwhile, Ed resorts to desperate measures to get his hands on some cash, and Lee lurches off from Shuttleworth's after a slip of the tongue from George - alas, we hardly knew ye! In the Kabin, we chat to a Corrie viewer who was at the fan event with Todd Boyce last week, and share our thoughts on the excellent Barbara Knox At 90 programme that aired last Friday. After a bumper feedback section where we hear some listeners' thoughts on the demise of Stephen Reid, we finish off the show with a spoiler Kabin Extra section, where we give our thoughts on some recent cast news. Street Talk - 00:10:28 The Kabin - 02:08:45 Feedback - 02:29:01 Kabin Extra - 02:57:39
Ep 598Stephen Reid Character Profile
Love him or hate him, Stephen Reid and his bumbling string of murders have certainly been the hottest topic on the lips of Corrie viewers for the past year or so, and now that his time on the show has finally come to an end, we take the opportunity to take a look back at his full story. From his early days as the suave businessman who caught Alma Baldwin's eye in the mid-90s to the killer Canuck of modern day Corrie, Stephen has certainly been on quite a journey - especially for a character who's been in fewer than 300 episodes in total! Were there any hints back in his early days that he could eventually turn to the dark side? Do we buy his excuse that he just wanted his mother's approval? What were our favourite Stephen moments from the past year - and what didn't work so well for us? We discuss all this and much, much more in our latest character profile!
Ep 597Coronation Street Episode 597
In our latest podcast, we chat about what went down on the cobbles between the 9th and the 13th October (Episodes #11079 - 11084). Super Soap Week is here again, and this year they're dedicated to the demise of Corrie's killer Canuck, Stephen Reid. Going into the week, everyone had the same question on their lips: who was going to be Stephen's final victim? Though we must admit we were somewhat disappointed the answer turned out to be Rufus, we still had a blast watching this week's episodes, and the misdirection and twists that Corrie continued to throw at us over the course of the week certainly kept us on our toes! Will Tim be found before it's too late? Did Stephen have a fitting end? Will Peter become the latest of Ken's kids to get away with murder? Buckle up as we discuss these questions and much, much more! After a particularly length Street Talk segment, we quickly bash through some ex-cast member related news stories in The Kabin, then end the show by hearing some listeners' early reactions to this week's drama in the feedback section. Street Talk - 00:11:39 The Kabin - 03:14:59 Feedback - 03:22:14
Ep 597Our Top 5 People Stephen Should Have Killed
For this week's bonus podcast, we've borrowed the format we use for our Patreon exclusive episodes each month and are counting down our individual Top 5 characters Stephen Reid should have killed off. Now obviously, at the time of recording, there's still scope for him to claim another victim, so we've decided not to include anyone on our list who we think actually has a realistic chance of getting bumped off this week, however small. (Plus we thought that if the likes of Elaine or Tim were on the longlist, the pair of us would probably end up making very similar choices!) With that in mind, we've decided to throw the doors right open and choose from ANY other character on the show we'd like to see the back of at the hands of Corrie's latest serial killer - and of course explain why! Not only that, but we've also plotted out the scenarios by which they'd meet their sticky end, so if you like a bit of fan fiction, this episode should be right up your street!
Ep 596Conversation Street Episode 596
In our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the goings on in Weatherfield between the 2nd and the 4th October (Episodes #11073 - 11078). Twenty years to the week after Todd's famous 'wrong move' that saw him attempt to kiss Nick, Coronation Street finally had its first gay wedding day this week (or at least the first that didn't end in a jilting or a pesky factory roof landing on one half of the couple's head..). Despite the tragic fact that this marriage can't possibly end happily ever after due to Paul's condition, the day itself was joyous, and the resultant fallout between Billy and the Church led to some great discussion on the podcast too! We also had a fair bit to say about the marketing of vapes to children too, as Corrie begins its latest teen bullying / peer pressure story focusing on Liam, Dylan and new bad boy Mason. Also this week, a few unlikely coincidences (that are actually ten a penny on Corrie, to be fair) lead to Stephen realising that he needs to leave Weatherfield ASAP, Aadi's hissy fit nearly sees him getting arrested and Stu tries to dig up some dirt on Dom. Up next on the show, it's The Kabin, where we take a look on how Corrie alumni Les Dennis and Ellie Leach are doing on Strictly (hint: not so well for Les..) and we round of the show with more of your feedback. Street Talk - 00:22:00 The Kabin - 02:56:59 Feedback - 03:06:36
Ep 596Candice Stowe Character Profile
For this week's bonus episode, we chat about crimper to the Quo, Candice Stowe. A regular on Coronation Street for six years in the early 2000s, Candice was definitely more of a side character than someone who had big stories to herself, but she still had her moments, as we discovered when putting together this profile! Of course, actress Nikki Sanderson is probably better known now for her much lauded role in Hollyoaks, but if you want to know where she got started in the business, the full story's all here!
Ep 595Conversation Street Episode 595
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about what went on in Weatherfield between the 25th and the 27th September (Episodes #11067 - 11072). It's last orders in the Rovers this week as Jenny and co are turfed onto the cobbles by their new bosses at Waterford. Even though we're feeling pretty damn sure most things will be going right back to the status quo before too long, Corrie still did a great job of keeping us gripped this week - and of course the fact that Stephen is also involved can only be a good thing in our book! Elsewhere on the cobbles, Paul has a bit of a spiritual revelation at Shelley's funeral, and with the Bistro all booked up for Monday, surely, SURELY nothing can get in the way of Corrie finally having its first gay wedding? Also this week, the truth about Ryan's O-vidz double life comes out (much to Sean's excitement!), Dev and Darren spectacularly fail to split up Aadi and Courtney, and Cassie proves to be quite the asset at the garage! Up next, it's the Kabin, where we celebrate Corrie's wins at the Inside Soap Awards this week, and we finish things off with more of your listener feedback. Street Talk - 00:11:00 The Kabin - 02:19:51 Feedback - 02:41:31
Ep 594Conversation Street Episode #594
In our latest edition of Conversation Street, we chat about what went on in Corrie between the 18th and the 20th September (Episodes #11061 - 11066). The walls are closing in on Stephen this week as Ed unearths Leo's surprisingly verdant corpse at the dig site. Are we seeing the beginning of the end for the killer Canadian, and will he be able to squeeze in one more victim before he succumbs to soap justice? We run down the possible candidates and make our predictions... Also this week, Paul and Billy's stag night (afternoon) ends in sadness when Bernie reveals what's happened to Shelley - she sure can choose her moments, can't she? Meanwhile, Ryan resorts to desperate measures to keep that sweet, sweet O-vidz cash coming in, and Todd begins to realise that working for Rest Easy is actually anything but... If you've been following our socials, you'll have seen that the reason for our late upload this week was because Gemma had to have her appendix out on Monday morning, and she's been a little bit knackered! We decided that, to make things a bit easier for her, we'd forego the usual news and feedback for the week in an attempt to keep the podcast to a relatively short run-time... and then proceeded to talk about the whole appendectomy affair for about an hour after finishing up chatting about what happened on Corrie. So if you're at all interested in what it's like to have part of your guts whipped out before it bursts, you've come to the right place! Street Talk: 00:11:07 Gemma's appendectomy ordeal: 02:40:21
Ep 593Conversation Street Episode 593
In our latest podcast, we have a good old natter about what went on in Corrie between the 11th and the 15th September (Episodes #11055 - 11060). It was a bit of a mixed bag this week, we thought, with a few great shocks and surprises sitting alongside some plots that really struggled to engage us - chief among which was the Stu and Eliza story. A stroppy pre-teen, a deadbeat dad trying to sell his daughter, a tussle with a copper leading to a character's brief arrest.. it all kind of feels like it has been done before, and with characters we cared more about, too! On the flip side, though, you've got Paul's continuing decline and that gut punch of an ending to Friday's episode - Peter Ash's performance continues to really impress us, and we're sure there are more heartbreaking scenes to come! Also this week, Dee-Dee goes on a date, the truth is out about Aadi and Courtney and Roy finds himself with a new house guest! There are a couple of big talking points in The Kabin this week, as Coronation Street announces a fan event in the new Visitor Centre next month, whilst a job advert for a new executive producer that's come online recently suggests it could be all change at the top soon! As always, we finish off the show with more of your feedback. Street Talk - 00:06:36 The Kabin - 01:59:17 Feedback - 02:25:40
Ep 593Sue Devaney On Stage!
Last weekend, we travelled up north for a couple of days to see Sue Devaney perform in her one-woman show, Didn't You Used To Be Somebody?, which was performed at HOME as part of Manchester's first annual Recoverist month. While we were there, we also popped into a few Corrie filming locations we hadn't visited before and even stopped off at a cafe run by Simon Gregson's wife! A busy old weekend, then, and we had a great time chatting over our favourite moments!
Ep 592Conversation Street Episode 592
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown between the 4th and the 7th September (Episodes #11049 - 11054). There's a whole lot of fighting between Cassie and Evelyn this week, as mother and daughter vie for Tyrone's trust. Can Evelyn convince him that his mum's a wrong'un, and can we believe a single word that comes out of Cassie's mouth? Meanwhile, there's a three-way tussle of a different kind over at the precinct this week as Max is pursued by Lauren and Sabrina. Has Lauren really changed her ways and repented for what she has done in the past? Come to think of it, has Max? Also this week, Henry attempts a grand gesture in the hope of whisking Gemma off her feet, Ed does his best to risk temptation and Courtney's back - and can't keep her hands off Aadi! In The Kabin, we mourn the loss of one of Corrie's greatest ever scriptwriters, John Stevenson, and we finish off the show with more of your feedback. Street Talk - 00:15:10 The Kabin - 01:59:39 Feedback - 02:26:57
Ep 592George Banks Interview
This week, after an all too brief return to the cobbles, Henry Newton bowed out of the show once more following a brutal rejection from Gemma. For this week's bonus podcast, we sat with actor George Banks to chat about what it was like to step back into Henry's shoes after five years, ponder how the character has changed since we last saw him, and quiz him about why on earth Henry would employ someone like Gemma as his PA!
Ep 591Conversation Street Episode 591
In our latest podcast, we chat about what went on in Corrie between the 28th August and the 1st September (Episodes #11043 - 11048). It's the week of the brewery buyout, and despite (or maybe because of..?) how many times Debbie tried the reassure Ronnie that everything would go to plan for him, we had a sneaking suspicion that it wasn't going to be all plain sailing. Surprisingly, by the end of the week, it looks like the Baileys are actually rolling in it - though if Ed were to reflect on any of the lines from that Flint woman's book of inspirational quotes right now, it would be 'a fool and his money are soon parted'... Meanwhile, after sniffing round her for the best part of a year, Stephen finally makes the move on Jenny - does he have his sights set on the Rovers next? Also this week, Stu comes to a decision about Dom's access to Eliza, Carla comes surprisingly close to figuring out the true source of her psychotic episodes, and Billy and Paul have a go at skinny dipping. Not a huge amount of news to cover this week in The Kabin, though we both love Jennie McAlpine's choice of name for her third child, and we finish off with a little bit of feedback. Street Talk: 00:07:43 The Kabin: 01:59:00 Feedback: 02:03:28
Ep 591Evelyn Plummer Character Profile
For this week's bonus podcast, we chat about modern Corrie legend Evelyn Plummer, a character who is unbelievably about to hit her five-year anniversary on the show! It was certainly a massive coup for Coronation Street to secure an actress like Maureen Lipman back in 2018, and comparisons to former Weatherfield battleaxes would be inevitable. Five years on and Evelyn is easily one of our favourite characters on the show, has shown what makes her different from the likes of Blanche and Ena, and we had a blast reminiscing about some of her best moments so far when we recorded this episode. Enjoy!
Ep 590Conversation Street Episode 590
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the goings on in Weatherfield between the 21st and the 25th August (Episodes #11037 - 11042) Not content with covering issues surrounding acid attacks, catfishing and steroid abuse, Ryan's story is given another topic to tackle this week - the topic OF his tackle and whether he should be getting it out for all and sundry to see online if they're willing to stump up the cash. Meanwhile, Paul and his rapidly declining condition are back in the spotlight this week - is Billy being a bit too overbearing in how he's dealing with his fiancé's decreased mobility, and is he really going to get the bishop to turn a blind eye to the rule book so that they can get married in a church? Also this week, Todd and George's childish spats lead to Rest Easy gaining a new employee, Ronnie buys some shares in the brewery, and Jenny's chuffed to be taken out by Stephen - and it only seems like a matter of time now until he gets his hands on the Rovers! The Kabin this week covers a few small news items and a couple of attempts by the tabloids to drum up some drama with talk of soap axeings on the horizon, and we finish things off with a bit of feedback. Street Talk - 00:16:15 The Kabin - 02:33:25 Feedback - 02:57:33
Ep 59030+ Places For Corrie Fans To Visit In And Around Manchester
Ever wondered where some of Corrie's most iconic scenes on location were filmed? Planning a trip to Manchester and looking for places to visit? In this episode, we share the locations of over 30 filming locations that have been used over the years and chat about the times we've been to see them. Hopefully, this should hopefully come in useful for anyone wanting to retrace the footsteps of some of their Weatherfield favourites! A YouTube version of the episode, featuring photos, videos and Google Maps locations for each place, can be found at https://youtu.be/omB1Va7bKYQ The Google Map we created can be found on our blog, or at https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=17mdeuQCm6gS4_nuN4OlZa72ITomcWVY&usp=sharing
Ep 589Conversation Street Episode 589
On our latest podcast, we chat about what went on in Weatherfield between the 14th and the 18th August (Episodes #11031 - #11036). We were excited to see Evelyn and Cassie return to the cobbles this week, and the story of Tyrone's real mum reconnecting with him was just as gripping as it was when it was left off a few months ago, helped in no small part by some brilliant performances by the main cast members. With Cassie now staying at No. 9, we're sure there'll be plenty of opportunity for drama with the neighbours in the next few weeks, but will Tyrone be able to forgive Evelyn? Meanwhile Stephen manages to wriggle his way out of another tight corner when he successfully snags the telltale tiepin from Lou's room - but he might regret making an enemy of Peter in the process. Also this week, Lauren makes a surprise proposition to Roy, Debbie discovers some surprising news about the brewery and Ryan's roid rage rises. Not a whole lot of news this week, but we do at least have the NTA shortlist to mull over in The Kabin, and we finish off the podcast with more of your emails. Street Talk - 00:13:10 The Kabin - 02:27:16 Feedback - 02:32:08
Ep 589Jodie Prenger Interview
Glenda Shuttleworth first set foot in Weatherfield last August, and for Jodie Prenger, it's been a real whirlwind of a year! In this episode, we sit down with the actress behind Rovers' latest barmaid to chat about all things Corrie, from joining the beloved Shuttleworth clan and working in the pub alongside Sally Ann Matthews and Charlie Jordan, to launching Weatherfield's very first stage school, Little Big Shotz!
Ep 588Conversation Street Episode 588
On our latest podcast, we share our thoughts on the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 7th and the 11th August (Episodes #11024 - 11029). The race is on to save the Rovers this week when Jenny's attempts to convince the brewery's accountants that it's a good investment fail. Now, we don't reckon there are many viewers who think there's a chance the pub might actually be demolished, but we still enjoyed drama surrounding whether or not the Newtons would change their minds - not least because it gave plenty of screen time to our beloved Henry! Meanwhile, Stu's not happy to discover that Eliza's been secretly chatting with her dad online - can Dom really be trusted? Also this week, newbie Ruby wins the lead role in Glenda's production, Shona gets a new comrade in barms, and a stray tie pin found by Rufus' pool risks landing Stephen in hot water. Up next on the podcast it's The Kabin, where we chat about a couple of upcoming events Corrie fans might enjoy attending, and we finish things off with more of your fabulous feedback. Street Talk - 00:07:56 The Kabin - 02:21:25 Feedback - 02:33:27
Ep 588Listener Questions
For this week's bonus podcast, we raid the old mail bag and pull out two more of your listener questions to have a good old natter about! First off, we spend a good hour or so pondering which characters are now quite different to how they were when they first appeared on the Street, and for what reasons. We're sure most Corrie viewers could name some personalities that have altered - for better and for worse! - over the years, so do our picks match yours? After that, we're tasked with coming up with some modern takes on classic Corrie stories. Are there any storylines from the 60s or 70s that would work today, and what modern spin would we put on them? This one actually turned out to be quite tricky as so many early stories HAVE been redone in one way or another, but we gave it our best shot!
Ep 587Conversation Street Episode 587
On this weekend's podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 31st July and the 4th August (Episodes #11018 - 11023). After all her sneaking about trying to hide the true identity of her unborn baby's father, it was only a matter of time before Sarah's lies would catch up with her - we weren't expecting it to be this early, mind you! With Adam finding out the truth and revealing it to the family on Monday, things didn't seem like they could get any worse for Sarah, and then Wednesday happened... Things are looking pretty bleak for Jenny this week too, but a very welcome return on Friday's episode could well prove to be the saviour she's looking for! Also this week, Bernie's a bit tactless, Yasmeen's totally gormless and Ryan proves popular topless! Quite a bit of news to cover this week in The Kabin - including two stories involving free cakes! - and we finish things off with a bit of feedback. Street Talk - 00:13:33 The Kabin - 02:40:04 Feedback - 03:11:37
Ep 586Conversation Street Episode 586
We're back from our holidays and all caught up on last week's Corrie, so in this episode of the podcast, we chat about what went down on the cobbles between the 24th and the 28th July (Episodes #11013 - 11017) This week, with Elaine disappearing off to Scarborough, you might have been wondering which storyline Stephen would be meddling in next. Thanks to a bit of a weird flashback sequence on Wednesday, though, it turns out he's already been laying the groundwork for interfering in Sarah and Adam's paternity dramas! So many great twists and turns there, and once again, we have to say that what could have been a standard affair / who's the daddy storyline is still feeling surprisingly fresh! Meanwhile, Aadi's getting himself into some real hot water as he continues to dance to Courtney's tune - is this a comedy story? Something serious about an innocent teen being groomed? A steamy summer love affair? Turns out we have plenty to say about this one, either way! Meanwhile, Ryan's back and getting himself jacked, Paul's second encounter with Shelly gets him considering his future and Todd gets a Stiffy.
Ep 585Conversation Street Episode 585
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 17th and the 21st July (Episodes #11007 - 11012). This week was the very definition of a mixed bag! We're big fans of Spider and Toyah and have missed their lack of presence on the show for most of the year, but when the powers that be decide to include them, this is what we get? A farcical, zero tension hostage scene followed by Spider choosing the force over his fiancée? We'd say words fail us, but we certainly managed to get a good discussion out of it in the podcast! Then on the other side of the coin, you've got the Stephen storyline - now we're not going to say that's not farcical either, but we were on the edge of our seats with that plot this week! Who knew that Elaine actually had a backbone, and what on earth is Stephen going to do now? Also this week, Paul is apprehensive about his MND support group visit, Aadi attracts the attentions of his new boss' wife, and Brian finally gets rid of Isabella. Up next on the podcast it's The Kabin, where our cockles are warmed by the news of a Barbara Knox and Thelma Barlow reunion at Tatton Park this week, then we finish off the show with more of your feedback. Street Talk - 00:09:06 The Kabin - 02:37:59 Feedback - 02:49:46
Ep 585Jackie Dobbs Character Profile
For this week's bonus podcast, we chat about cellmate from hell, Jackie Dobbs. Originally brought onto the cobbles during Deirdre's stint in the slammer, Jackie went on to feature in 65 episodes of the show, and although this might not seem like much, actress Margi Clarke's larger than life performance made sure Jackie went down in Corrie history! As we record this, we've just been introduced to Tyrone's birth mum Cassie, but for us long time viewers, he's always going to be Jackie's son in our hearts!
Ep 584Conversation Street Episode 584
In our latest podcast, we run down the goings on in Weatherfield between the 10th and the 14th July (Episodes #11001 - 11006). For the past five years, we've been putting our #BringBackHenry prayers into the Twitterverse, and this week's Corrie suggests they may finally have been answered. Bless you, Jenny, for suggesting that Gemma get in touch with her old flame for a job - of course, a phone call and a text don't necessarily confirm a comeback, but we're feeling positive here.. And speaking of comebacks, Griff's mate Reece makes an appearance this week when Lauren convinces Max to visit him in jail, but do they have sinister motives behind the invitation? Also this week, Sarah's DNA test results arrive, Elaine and Gerry grow closer and it's an eventful few days for Toyah as she gets both engaged and kidnapped! Up next on the podcast, we head to The Kabin, where Gemma casts her fashionista's eye over the guests at Corrie's summer party, and we finish things off with more of your listener feedback. Ep 584Daniel Brocklebank and Chris James Interview
For this week's bonus podcast, we have a double whammy of interviews for you! First up, we're joined by Daniel Brocklebank, who plays Billy Mayhew. We chat to Dan about his involvement in the current MND storyline as well as some of his other highlights during his time on the cobbles. After that, we speak to Chris James from the Motor Neurone Disease Association about the work that the charity has done with Coronation Street to help bring Paul's heartbreaking story to the screen. If you'd like to find out more about the Motor Neurone Disease Association, including how to help support their cause, visit https://www.mndassociation.org
Ep 583Conversation Street Episode 583
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 3rd and the 7th July (Episodes #10995 - 11000). What a difference a week can make! Whilst the twists and turns of last week's Corrie led to one of our longest Street Talks yet, the latest batch of episodes really didn't inspire that much discussion, we're sorry to say. Paul was definitely a bit of a pillock this week, going off to the hotel room with an ex, and deserved every bit of that telling off het got from Billy afterwards. We absolutely have sympathy for everything Gemma's going through too, and as for Ryan's story... yeah, it's going through all the expected beats. But hey, at least they've remembered Michelle exists! And would Stephen please just hurry up and bump off Elaine already? There's a good amount of news to chat about this week at least, including the announcement of a new show to celebrate Barbara Knox's 90th birthday; plus, there's the Inside Soap Award nominations to discuss! We round the show off with more of your lovely feedback. Street Talk: 00:23:22 The Kabin: 01:46:52 Feedback: 02:09:26
Ep 583Brian Capron Interview
If you're like us, you'll have been loving watching Richard Hillman's reign of terror reaching its climax in recent weeks on Classic Corrie on ITV3. To mark the occasion, for this week's bonus podcast, we chatted to actor Brian Capron - the man behind the murderer! Brian has so many stories about his time on the show so if you're into behind the scenes secrets, you're going to love this! Also available as a video version on YouTube: https://youtu.be/0-PYpzpg6iQ
Ep 582Conversation Street Episode 582
In our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about what went on in Corrie between the 26th and the 30th June (Episodes #10989 - 10994). Did anyone else find Corrie to be absolutely fantastic this week? There were revelations aplenty, like Sarah's pregnancy, the truth about the actual identity of 'Bec' and of course the fact that Ty's birth mum Cassie is actually alive and well. Then you had some brilliant scenes such as that nine-minute hospital room epic between Evelyn and Cassie, and Shona getting emotional over Max's victim statement. Stephen's increasing frustrations with both Owen and Elaine made us chuckle, and the hopelessness of Paul's tragic tale gave way to some heartwarming moments like the left-handed darts match and Dee-Dee's stories about how her faith got her through some tough times in LA. An absolute banger of a week, which led to a particularly lengthy Street Talk segment! Not a whole lot of news this week, but we did have one or two items to cover like the introduction of some real life Roy's Rolls rolls to the market at Co-op (why did that great idea take so long?) and then we round the episode off with some feedback. Ep 5822023: Our Reflections On The Year So Far
It's the end of June, which can only mean one thing: our annual look at the first half of the year so far! In this week's bonus podcast, we chat about what's really worked well for us in terms of storylines and character development since January, from the gripping drama of the acid attack and Amy's rape to the campy fun of Stephen's bumbling murder spree. Secret affairs, exploding vans, the loss of poor Cerberus.. It's actually been quite a packed year so far, and it was fun being able to take a step back and see how we feel it's all gelling together, and ponder what the next six months may have in store.
Ep 581Conversation Street Episode 581
In our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 19th and the 23rd June 2023 (Episodes #10983 - 10988). Remember when Max was inside and he heard Ryan's desperate message to Crystal on Daisy's phone? Yeah, we'd forgotten about that too, so it came as a bit of a shock to us when he revealed this information to Ryan on Monday's episode - though not as much as the shock Ryan got, clearly! Now how long will the secret snogs with Daisy stay hidden from Daniel, we wonder..? Meanwhile, With the late night licence in full swing, the Bistro story needs a new buzzword to drop into every other scene, and now it's the turn of 'pop up restaurant' - but with Damon popping off before it can actually do any popping up, will the plans actually go ahead? Also this week, Paul doesn't want to be a charity case, Brian plans a tour of the 'northern Riviera' for Isabella and Bec discovers the reason behind Max's incarceration - and she ain't happy! Next up on the podcast, we take a flying visit to The Kabin to chat about a few news items for the week before ending with more of your listener feedback. Ep 580Conversation Street Episode 580
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the goings on in Weatherfield between the 12th and the 16th June (Episodes #10977 - 10982). New set alert! It feels like it's been a long time coming, but we finally get to see Elaine and Stephen's new flat this week, which, very fittingly for everyone's favourite deadly Canadian uncle, immediately becomes the scene of an attempted murder. Tim's suspicions are raised thanks to a slip-up on Stephen's part involving a trip to the shops for some bread - can Tim use his loaf and suss Stephen out before Elaine is toast? Meanwhile the consent storyline comes to a climax as Aaron leaves Weatherfield in shame - despite still not admitting what he did to Amy. It's an exit that some viewers may find somewhat unsatisfying as it seems like he got away with his crime - but we personally loved it! Also this week, Isabella continues to grate, Max and Bec become an item and Sarah fights for her marriage. Up next on the podcast it's the Kabin, where we react to the news that a certain nonagenarian Corrie star jumped out of a plane last weekend! We round off the show with a bit of listener feedback. Ep 580Inside The New Coronation Street Experience
The Coronation Street Experience is now officially open! In addition to being able to tour the outdoor sets, you can now peruse the brand new indoor exhibition floor, which is home to replica sets, famous costumes, props from years gone by and more! We've had a chance to take a look round ourselves, and in this podcast, we chat about our time there. Also available as a video on YouTube, with loads of footage and photos! https://youtu.be/vPtu-4kmg0Q
Ep 579Conversation Street Episode 579
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 5th and the 9th June (Episodes #10971 - 10976). Isn't it strange how much hype and expectations for a week can affect your enjoyment of it? We'd built ourselves up for the BGT episodes so much that we couldn't help but be a little disappointed last week, but with that build up removed for this week, we were able to simply enjoy them for what they were - a solid set of eps that were super tense and dramatic at times and laugh out loud funny at others. There've been a good number of bad mothers over the years on Corrie, and Sarah's actions this week put her comfortably among them as she tried to convince little Harry that he was seeing things when he reported witnessing a full-on snoggeroo between her and Damon. With the affair now out in the open, surely a pregnancy has got to be on the horizon? Meanwhile, the Baileys' encounter with two of their snobby ex-neighbours sets the wheels in motion for a proper classic Corrie comedy caper. On top of all that, we've got the surprising verdict in Justin's trial, Carla's resignation from the factory for what feels like the millionth time (and a possible next victim for Stephen in the form of new boss Owen?) and our first encounter with a resident of the precinct flats. All in all, a great week! There's some heartbreaking news in The Kabin this week as Corrie legend Julie Goodyear is diagnosed with dementia, but there's also lots to celebrate too, including the British Soap Award results and the opening of the new exhibition space at The Coronation Street Experience. We round off the podcast with more of your feedback, including thoughts on BGT Week, Maxine's murder on Classic Corrie and a celebration of Dee Dee Bailey! Ep 579Our Night At The British Soap Awards 2023
For the first time in four years, the British Soap Awards are back in Manchester! We travelled up to see the Corrie cast arrive at the Lowry before heading inside to watch the ceremony being filmed. This episode has everything you need to know about what it's like to attend the show, and for tonnes of photos and footage of the event, check out the video version of the podcast on our YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/nZFdmgk80Eo!
Ep 578Conversation Street Episode 578
On our latest podcast, we chat about what went on in Weatherfield between the 29th May and the 2nd June 2023 (Episodes #10966 - 10970) Britain's Got Talent week is here again, and you know what that means for Corrie: stunts galore, massive twists and long-running stories reaching their climax... except that didn't really happen this year. We've seen a wide range of opinions on this year's 'big week', and although we sit somewhere in the middle, we must admit that it didn't quite live up to our hopes for the week. Yes, Gemma's wedding was lovely and the dress was absolutely perfect for her; yes, the performances from the various actors reacting to Paul's news were all spot on; and yes, the courtroom drama ramped up nicely on Friday. But we still can't feel like things could have been bigger, especially when it came to the acid attack story, which felt it took a little too long to get going - plus the less said about that kiss at the end of the week the better! Come on Daisy - it took us a long time to warm up to you as a character... please don't spoil it! This episode was recorded from our AirBnB in Sale as we're up north again for the British Soap Awards this weekend. After a long day's drive (and no time for dinner before recording!), we didn't have the energy for news and feedback for this week, so it's a Street Talk only episode this time. Look out for our reactions from the awards over the coming days, though!
Ep 578Listener Questions
This week's bonus podcast is another Listener Question segment! First up, we ponder who on Corrie is being underused at the moment, and with a huge cast of characters to choose from, there are bound to be a few that get short changed. Are they ones we really mind not seeing much of, though? After that, we're asked about product placement on Corrie, which has been a thing ever since Dev introduced those Nationwide ATMs into the Corner Shop over a decade ago. What do we think of it, and which brands would we suggest Corrie should work with if it was looking for a new partner?
Ep 577Conversation Street Episode 577
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 22nd and the 26th May 2023 (Episodes #10960 - 10965). This week's podcast really was a case of finding some light in the darkness because by 'eck, wasn't that a grim set of episodes? Not that the scripts or performances were poor or anything, but it just seemed like there wasn't a lot of happiness for anyone! Top of the misery list, of course, was Paul, whose worsening condition causes him to be a bit of a party pooper at the stag and hen do on Wednesday. We just hope that Gemma and Chesney can have a happy wedding next week before the news of Paul's MND spreads further... Also this week, Craig and Tim were left teary eyed when Faye made the decision to do a classic Corrie flit and move to Slough with Miley and Jackson. Meanwhile, Roy suffers angina attacks, Hope's dumped by Sam after she sabotages Eliza's birthday party and Daisy is getting anxious about next week's big court case. In The Kabin, we take a look at the nominations in this year's NTAs, report a lengthy delay in the publication of Maggie Sullivan's next Coronation Street novel and uncover some evidence online that a head swap may soon be on the cards for one of the Corrie kids! We round things off with a little bit of feedback. Street Talk - 00:17:22 The Kabin - 02:11:57 Feedback - 02:38:30
Ep 577Faye Windass Character Profile Revisit
Back in Episode #101 of the podcast, we ran a character profile of a young Faye Windass and her first few years on the Street. For this week's bonus show, as Faye leaves Weatherfield, sloping off to Slough with Jackson and Miley, we take a look at what she's been up to in the nine years since. A teenage pregnancy, a prison sentence, early menopause, and of course being caught up as a minor character in the villainous tales of Pat Phelan and Geoff Metcalfe... it's been an eventful decade for Faye, and one that has given us plenty to chat about as we say a one final goodbye to her.
Ep 576Conversation Street Episode 576
On our latest podcast, we chat about what went on in Weatherfield between the 15th and the 19th May 2023 (Episodes #10954 - 10959). Overall, we felt this was a bit of a 'treading water' week, to be honest - not necessarily poor episodes (although the heavy focus on Faye and Craig on Friday definitely wasn't that exciting) - but fairly slow plot development or things we felt we'd seen before. Daisy's still pretending to be Crystal, Paul's still wanting to keep his diagnosis a secret, Max is still finding prison life hard, Faye still can't decide whether to leave Craig or not... Sure, the Amy story has taken a bit of a turn, what with Abi now believing her and Eric suing her for her so-called libellous comments about his son, and Linda returning for the run-up to the wedding was fun, but overall.. just not much for us to get our teeth into, discussion-wise! Still, we're only a few weeks away from BGT week, so hopefully there's some exciting stuff on the horizon! The big news this week, of course, was the official announcement of the Coronation Street Experience including its new exhibition space. Yes, we'd already chatted about that in our recent bonus podcast, but that didn't stop us getting excited about it all over again here! We round off the show with more of your feedback, including a question about which recent episode of Corrie we'd recommend a new viewer start off with. Ep 5765 Reasons You Need To Go On The Coronation Street Experience
Coronation Street: The Tour has evolved! From June 11th, you'll be able to visit The Coronation Street Experience, which not only lets you a trip down the cobbles, but also includes a tour around the brand new indoor exhibition space, featuring interior sets, famous props and more! In this podcast, which includes our discussion about our recent trip to set as well as interviews with people working on the tour, we tell you five reasons why you need to book yourselves a ticket on the Coronation Street Experience.
Ep 575Conversation Street Episode 575
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 8th and the 12th May (Episodes #10948 - 10953). It may play havoc with the order that we can discuss things on the podcast, but we must admit, we do love it when storylines cross over in unexpected ways. Max ending up being the key to Daniel finding out about Daisy's catfishing malarkey was a neat twist - though it did provide yet more evidence (as if we needed it!) that Daniel really isn't fit to teach... Also this week, Sarah's coquettish faux rebuttals of Damon's advances turned into a full-on Bistro bonkathon on Monday - surely a pregnancy has got to be on the cards now? Meanwhile, Amy discovers Aaron's back with Mia, Paul gets his sentencing date, and Fiz heads off to Norfolk. We were in a bit of a mad dash to get this recorded today so we had to forego news and feedback to get the episode out on time, but no doubt they'll be back next week!
Ep 575Celebs On The Street
For this week's bonus podcast, we take a look at some of the famous faces who've appeared on Coronation Street over the years, either as cameos or going onto play regular characters. Inspired, of course, by newly crowned King Charles, who made an appearance on Corrie for its 40th anniversary, we chat about which characters we enjoyed the most, ponder whether celebrity castings are a good move for the show or not, and also take a look at a few actors who appeared in Corrie before going on to bigger things elsewhere!
