Ep 655Conversation Street Episode 655
On our latest podcast, we have a natter about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 18th and the 22nd November (Episodes #11,417 - 11,422). It's the aftermath of the big whodunnit week, and Max is behind bars again after confessing to the murder to protect Lauren. Unfortunately for him, when David and Shona find out about what he's done, David's happy to throw Lauren under the bus - but did he do the right thing? Meanwhile, there are some saucy Swain and Connor scenes this week, as the latter decides to Swarla her pride after weeks of hesitancy and jump between the sheets with the undercover detective. Also this week, Mason's brothers are on the prowl, Dee-Dee finds out she's up the duff-duff, and Cassie resorts to desperate measures to keep her job as Ken's carer. In The Kabin, we celebrate Corrie's recent wins at the RTS NW Awards, and we finish things off with some lovely feedback. Street Talk - 00:10:52 The Kabin - 02:25:07 Feedback - 02:34:59
Ep 655Whodunnit?
Following last week’s big reveal of who killed Joel, our latest bonus podcast dives into Coronation Street’s rich history with whodunnits. Our favourite soap has been keeping viewers guessing about killers’ identities as far back as the 1960s, with some of the most iconic examples including the murder of Frank Foster and, of course, the tragic death of Rana Habeeb in the Underworld roof collapse. But it’s not just murders we discuss - we also revisit times Corrie gave us suspect lists for other crimes, like when Ken was pushed down the stairs and when Adam was bludgeoned in the Bistro. So, what makes a great soap whodunnit? And which ones are our absolute favourites? That’s exactly what we explore in this week's episode!
Ep 654Conversation Street Episode 654
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 11th and the 15th November (Episodes #11,411 - 11,416). All the flashbacks, intrigue and misdirection have been leading up to this week's big reveal of who killed Joel, and in this episode, we chat about our reactions to whodunnit. Was it everything we'd hoped it'd be? (Not quite..) Was there anything that we definitely didn't see coming? (Absolutely!) Were all the loose ends tied up? (Definitely not!) Corrie may claim to have shown us everything that happened on the night of Joel's murder, but we can't help but feel like we'll be flashbacking to the 27th September at least one more time before this story is through.. Also this week, Shona's ne'erdowell son Clayton makes a return to our screens for the first time in over four years - but has he really seen the light? And speaking of redeemed wrong'uns, just how much sympathy are we supposed to be having for Mason right now? Lots to talk about in this week's show, so we hope you enjoy (even if you may not necessarily agree with us 100%..!) Just a little bit of news in The Kabin this week, including the reveal that Alan Halsall will indeed be going into the jungle for this year's series of I'm A Celebrity, and we round the podcast off with more of your feedback. Ep 654Behind The Scenes At The Coronation Street Press Day
Recently, we were lucky enough to be invited to a press day at Coronation Street, where as well as being able to schmooze with the stars at the recently refurbished Chariot Square hotel, we had the chance to explore the treasure trove that is the Corrie Prop store, meet new producer Kate Brooks, and even team up with a pair of cast members to take part in a pub quiz - held in the Rovers Return and hosted by Sally Ann Matthews! Also available as a video over on our YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/5jFZAvAGvHU
Ep 653Conversation Street Episode 653
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown between the 4th and the 8th November 2024 (Episodes #11,405 - 11,410). Things are certainly hotting up in the murder mystery story this week, and our prime candidate for whodunnit Kit has finally joined the official list of suspects. There's an awful lot of evidence pointing towards him for sure, but could Corrie be planning one last twist in the tale? Also this week, we had Paul's space launch on Wednesday. And if you think that sounds weird, by the end of the week we had characters talking about ghostly apparitions and Paul's essence being in an alternative dimension. All part of that gritty, down to earth drama that Corrie's famous for, eh? (We jest - we did pretty much like it on the whole!) Also this week, Tim discovers Mason's been hiding out in the shed and soon becomes his surrogate Stu as he sees the good in the once zombie knife bearing scallywag. As well as that, there's more stoma drama for Bethany, a visiting order from Clayton... all in all, it was a pretty jam-packed week! Up next on the podcast, we chat about some of the new items of merch available on the ITV website (including a pretty nifty Corrie Christmas jumper) and we round things of with a load of your excellent Joel theories in our feedback section. Ep 653Three Days In Weatherfield
Recently, we headed up to Manchester for a few days to see a performance of KIN, the fantastic two-woman play penned by Corrie's Christine Mackie (Dr Gaddas). While we were there, we also headed over to the Coronation Street Experience to check out some changes to the gift shop, chatted with some of the cast members outside the studio gates, and tracked down a few more filming locations, including the spot where Peter's iconic AA meeting was shot and the place where Joel's cars were recently found after his disappearance! In this video, we chat about all that and much more! Also available as a video, with loads of photos and footage from our trip here: https://youtu.be/D0_v5XhmPjA
Ep 652Conversation Street Episode 652
We're up in Manchester for a few days at the moment with a bit of a busy schedule, so this week's podcast is a Street Talk only affair, covering the episode of Corrie shown in the UK between the 28th October and the 1st November (Episodes #11,399 - 11,404) The flashbacks return in this week's episodes of Corrie, giving us a few more hints as to what happened the night of Joel's death. Since the start, we've been pretty convinced it was Kit who did him in (or maybe Gus at a long shot) but is the whodunit still working to keep us interested? Also this week, the Dev's Devving it up to the max at the quads' birthday party, leading to a surprise popping the question that goes down like a lead balloon - can he and Bernie recover? Meanwhile, Cassie and Steve spend the night together, the news of Gail's engagement starts to spread and Mason pulls Liam from in front of a speeding car - are we seeing a redemption story here, and is he the kind of character we really want to see being redeemed?
Ep 652Cobblestone Chillers
Our Halloween homage to some of literature's spookiest stories and poems with a Weatherfield twist: we present to you our Cobblestone Chillers! Turn off the light and huddle under covers as you enjoy our Corrie adaptations of tales including Jabberwocky, The Telltale Heart and H.P. Lovecraft's haunting work, The Shadow Over Innsmouth.
Ep 651Conversation Street Episode 651
Greetings from the future! This weekend's podcast covers the episodes of Corrie airing between the 21st and the 27th October (Episodes #11,393 - 11,398), so if you've not watched the early upload of Sunday's episode on ITVX yet, you might want to hold fire on listening to this straight away as there are spoilers aplenty! It was a proper Platt-centric set of episodes on this week's Corrie, and even Gail was back on Wednesday after being conspicuously absent from her own story for the past fortnight. Not that she wasn't having a rough time of it though - in fact, she was barely back five minutes before she was being carted off to casualty with a heart attack! Elsewhere on the Street, both Kit and Gus are keeping a close eye on Dee-Dee - but are they just hoping she'll lead them towards clues about Joel's killer, or have they got something to hide themselves? Meanwhile, Cassie's presence at No. 1 continues to irk Steve, Nick struggles to resist his feelings for Toyah, and there are critters in the pittas at Speed Daal... Not a whole lot in the way of news this week, but we do check out a new set of official Corrie merch on the ITV shop - and it doesn't exactly get a a glowing review... We round off the show with more of your thoughts on Joel's killer, Stu's hasty exit and the early uploads in the feedback segment. Street Talk - 00:19:30 The Kabin - 02:35:09 Feedback - 02:43:43
Ep 651Corrie's Summer Of Comedy 2005
The Summer of 2005 is remembered by many Corrie fans for all the wrong reasons. Hot on the heels of dark, dramatic storylines such as Killer Katy and Mad Maya, the June to August period saw the show taking a much less headline-grabbing change of pace. While Charlie’s abuse of Shelley continued to simmer in the background, most of the other stories taking up screen time were there primarily to make us laugh. From Scooter and Sarah's koi carp caper to the boxing ring clash between Ashley and a rival butcher, not every story was a hit, but does the period deserve the derision it so often receives? Having just watched the episodes on ITV3 recently, Michael's here to share his thoughts!
Ep 651Conversation Street Episode 650
Today's podcast covers what went on in Corrie between the 14th and the 18th October 2024 (Episodes #11,387 - 11,392) It's another extra-long show this week, but not because of another lengthy Michael rant about the scheduling - nope, this time it's because we've got a murder mystery on our hands (and unlike the Lauren one back in the Spring, this time somebody's actually been murdered!). Yep, Joel turned up dead in a sack on Monday's visit to Weatherfield, and there are plenty of characters with the motive and the opportunity to have done him in. Did Mason do it as payback for Joel's treatment of Betsy? Did God-fearing Dee-Dee go Old Testament on his arse? Or maybe it's just what at this point seems to be the most obvious suspect, DC Kit Green. There are still plenty of clues still to be revealed in flashbacks, but we try to piece together all the evidence so far. Joel's not the only character we had to wave bye-bye to this week either, as Stu hangs up his whites and heads of for a new life in Germany - and not even Yasmeen seems that bothered by it! We've also got more drama at the Platts (with no sign of Gail!), a trip to A&E for Sam, and yet another 'the Winter-Browns are poor' story. It wasn't all gold, but on the whole, we thought it was a pretty decent week! Up next on the podcast, we take a look at why Shelley King and Julie Hesmondhalgh are teaming up for a good cause, and finish off the show with some of your thoughts on the early ITVX uploads in The Kabin. Ep 650Beth Sutherland Character Profile Revisit
Back when we first profiled Beth in Episode #122 of the podcast, she'd only been a regular on the cobbles a few years. Fast forward a decade and the stylish stitcher has sewn her last gusset at Underworld, moving onto pastures new in Norfolk. This week, we take a look back at what she's been up to in the last ten years, reliving our favourite Beth moments and pondering whether she lived up to the expectations we had of her back in her first profile!
Ep 649Conversation Street Episode 649
On our latest edition of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 7th and the 11th October 2024 (Episodes #11,381 - 11,386). After kicking off the show with some impressions of The Street of Lies, Corrie's brand new choose your own adventure book set in 1983, we delve into the week's episodes, and the minefield that is the return of Jesse Chadwick combined with the official start of Swarla relationship. We've all seen the romance between this pair coming a mile off, and although there's still a good deal of denial going on from both characters after the electric scenes on Monday, they now seem to be a lock-in for Corrie's next big couple... and we've got a lot to say about it! Same with Jesse's return, as the forgotten cowboy (no, he wasn't a clown) mosies back into Weatherfield with his heart set on Gail. Yes, we know a lot of viewers would have preferred Martin or, well, pretty much anyone other than who we got, but we're giving Corrie a bit of a break here, and actually, we've enjoyed what we've seen so far! Also this week, Hope's vape habit nearly leads to a blazing inferno at No. 9, Mason's brother Logan makes his debut, and Paul's family discover a letter containing his final wishes. Up next on the show, it's The Kabin, and unsurprisingly, the news that Corrie is moving permanently to 'online first' morning uploads dominates the discussion. We're both feeling pretty strongly about this shake-up to the scheduling, and we don't necessarily agree with each other either! If you're a fan of a good Conversation Street rant, hopefully you won't be disappointed with this one! And that's not the only Corrie news this week either! Stephen Reid's jacket going up for sale on ITV Reloved, a royal visit to the set, and some sad news about the death of a Corrie icon from the 70s... There's a lot to cover here! In fact, it's probably for the best that we didn't have a whole lot of feedback this week - although one email from a listener whose friend was an extra in a recent scene still manages to end up causing a bit of a segue into a discussion about Corrie's sustainability efforts.. Yep, all and all it's a long show this week - we hope you enjoy! Street Talk - 00:22:20 The Kabin - 02:39:18 Feedback - 03:34:01
Ep 649Corrieliminator: Round 6
We're into the second half of the Corrielimination now, and this month's random selection of characters includes another quite tricky bunch to sort! We've got serial killers going head to head, a battle of the beards, and... some admittedly pretty poor characters who fought it out in the race to the bottom! A video version of the episode can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/aLcZr7j-3gU Don't forget, you can also have your say in this month's selection by voting for your Top 3 characters in the listener poll over at https://forms.gle/ZUhmEuHnVkFmSZGJA
Ep 648Conversation Street Episode 648
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 30th September and the 4th October (Episodes #11,375 - 11,380). Overall, we thought this was a pretty damn good week of Coronation Street! Going into it, we knew that there'd be the funeral and the rave, of course, and there'd likely be more argy-bargy between Billy and Bernie; plus, there was that mysterious voice message left by Joel last week that would have to be followed up on. What we weren't expecting was a surprise pregnancy for Fiz, a surprise reappearance for Denny and Gail (not together, we hasten to add!), or that we'd get some beautiful location shots to set the scene for Dee-Dee, Lisa and Kit's investigation that would lead up champing at the bit to find out what on earth has befallen Weatherfield's slipperiest solicitor... It certainly wasn't perfect (we don't know what irritates us more - Kirk being a donut or those awful CGI firework), but all in all, we had a great time discussing what went on in Weatherfield this week! Up next on the podcast, it's The Kabin, and good news all round as the Corrie folks take home a bunch of awards from the Inside Soap ceremony before gathering for the first full cast photo in a decade. We round off the show with more of your fantastic feedback. Street Talk - 00:11:19 The Kabin - 02:42:18 Feedback - 02:54:22
Ep 648Peter Ash Interview
After succumbing to MND earlier this month, Paul Foreman may no longer be with us, but Peter Ash is alive and kicking - and here on the podcast to chat about his six years playing Paul Foreman! We chat about what it was like to work with the MND Association to bring Paul's journey with the condition to screen, the importance of keeping an element of humour to the story, and reminisce over some of his earlier moments on the cobbles too. Also available as a video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/HNFMC0YrUtM
Ep 647Conversation Street Episode 647
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 23rd and the 27th September 2024 (Episodes #11,369 - 11,374). It feels like so long since Corrie has done any filming abroad... and that trend continues this week despite the numerous scenes set in a Turkish hospital. And the reason for this little faux jaunt? Why, to raise more issues of course! Well we certainly won't be heading to southeastern Europe for liposuction any time soon, we can tell you that. To be fair, and despite predicting the contrary when we first heard about this story, we actually quite enjoyed Bethany's scenes this week, which felt like a bit of a fresh spin on the usual Corrie medical drama. Also this week, Joel's hatching some kind of plan that combines charitable donations, acting drunk and an almighty dollop of ominous background music.. but what exactly is he up to? Meanwhile, Hope's still on the vapes, Stu's back to defending Mason and Paul and Bernie finally manage to reach some kind of compromise regarding Paul's funeral. Up next in The Kabin, we take a look at who's in the running from Corrie as the shortlist for next week's Inside Soap Awards is revealed, and we round off the show with more of your feedback. Ep 647Christine Mackie Interview
For ten years now, we’ve enjoyed watching Christine Mackie as Dr Susan Gaddas, the go-to GP for Weatherfield residents. In this interview, Christine chats about her favourite moments diagnosing some of Corrie’s biggest legends. From treating everyone from Steve McDonald to Roy Cropper, to that memorable scene where Tim Metcalfe’s bares his bits – we cover it all! Does she think Gaddas should become a regular character? How hard is it to memorise all that medical jargon? And just what does she think of that Badass nickname? Tune in and find out!
Ep 646Conversation Street Episode 646
On our latest edition of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 16th and the 20th September 2024 (Episodes #11,363 - 11,368). As Joel got hauled into Weatherfield Police Station for the umpteenth time and Lauren spent yet another set of episodes standing over Frankie's incubator looking tragic, we were definitely starting to get a little weary of Swain and Dee-Dee's investigations this week, but with the CPS *finally* agreeing to charge him on Friday, it looks like things might now be set to move forward. We might not have had too much to say about that story, but the aftermath of Paul's death certainly elicited some lively discussion - we're very much on Team Billy here and think that Bernie's being totally out of order... though we realise that that's not necessarily the prevailing opinion among viewers! Also this week, everyone's jetting off abroad, as Tracy returns to Spain, Bethany finds a job in Turkey and Tyrone fails to stop Alina returning to Romania with Dorin. In The Kabin, we cover the news of the second loss to the Corrie family in as many weeks as Don Brennan actor Geoff Hinsliff passes away, and we round the show off with more of your feedback. Street Talk - 00:11:40 The Kabin - 02:14:12 Feedback - 02:27:19
Ep 646Jed Stone Character Profile
This week's bonus podcast is a character profile of Jed Stone, following the sad news of actor Kenneth Cope's passing last week. A bit of a proto-Eddie Yeats figure, Jed ducked and dived his way around Weatherfield during the 1960s, though he's perhaps best known in this stint for his touching relationship with landlady Minnie Caldwell. Jed returned to the cobbles 42 years later in 2008, and many of you will remember how he almost came a cropper at the hands of Tony Gordon!
Ep 645Conversation Street Episode #645
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown on the 9th and the 13th September 2024 (Episodes #11,359 - 11,362). There were tears aplenty this week as Paul finally succumbed to his MND in a dramatic episode on Monday which, though utterly heartbreaking at times, still managed to get in some of humour that's been running through this storyline since the start. With top notch performances from all the leads, we were very much satisfied with how the episode panned out - but will Billy and Bernie be able to put their differences aside to plan Paul the funeral he deserves? Also this week, Leanne manages to bring down Rowan, Tyrone resorts to desperate measures to stop Alina taking Dorin to Romania, and Swain makes a breakthrough in her secret pursuit of Joel. Up next in the podcast it's the Kabin, where we celebrate Peter Ash's win at the NTAs, and we round off the show with some of your feedback, including a passionate defence of the Swarla story! Street Talk - 00:10:12 The Kabin - 01:59:48 Feedback - 02:12:48
Ep 645Paul Foreman Character Profile
After six years, Paul Foreman's time on the cobbles finally came to an end this week, and in this bonus episode of the podcast, we take a look back at his story. From his introduction as David's cellmate back in 2018 to his battle with MND over the past 18 months, we chat about his most memorable moments, reflect on our changing opinions of the character over the years, and discuss the highs and the lows of his relationship with Billy.
Ep 644Conversation Street Episode 644
On this edition of the podcast, we chat about what went down in Weatherfield between the 2nd and the 6th September 2024 (Episodes 11,353 - 11,358). It's only been a few weeks since we were on the edge of our seats since the big Dee-Dee and Joel reveal episodes, but we were right there again on Wednesday night when Leanne discovered the truth about Nick and Toyah's secret affair. But with the 'sisters before misters' stance she takes on Friday, is that one relationship that's not getting any further off the ground? (Sorry Nick and Toyah shippers, but we can only hope!) Meanwhile, Swain doubles down on her pursuit of Joel, but is it at the expense of her relationship with her daughter? Also this week, Paul writes his manifesto, Cassie and Tracy lock horns and the magical money fairy of Weatherfield waves her wand Webster-wards. Up next in the Kabin, we discuss Simon Gregson's surprising new side project, and we round off the podcast with more of your feedback. Street Talk - 00:14:21 The Kabin - 02:24:23 Feedback - 02:35:32
Ep 644Corrieliminator Round 5
Corrieliminator is back for Round 5, and if you thought last month was difficult when we were trying to whittle the selection down to a final three, this month is totally brutal! After picking our random names for the round, it was clear we'd have to sacrifice some bone fide legends this round, but hey - that's just the name of the game in Corrieliminator! Ep 643Conversation Street Episode 643
On this week's podcast, we cover the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 26th and the 30th August (Episodes #11,347 - 11,352). You might have seen from our social media that we had another trip to Manchester last weekend, and although we sadly weren't able to see Barbara Knox at Pride, we did take a trip to the Coronation Street Experience again, this time with some family members in tow. Before we kick off the Street Talk segment this week, we chat a bit about our time there, including a few small changes to the tour since our last visit, plus our Star Tour encounter with Antony Cotton. And yes, we were still able to keep the existence of the podcast a secret from our family while we were there too! Up next on the podcast, we move onto the meat of the show, this week's Street Talk. It had been long rumoured that Beth would be leaving Coronation Street this year, and this week she finally said her teary goodbyes to Weatherfield after being driven out of town by Kit. He wasn't the only shady villain roaming the Street this week either; in fact, Rowan and Joel were both up to no good too. However, whilst Rowan's starting to sweat after Amy CTRL-ALT-DELETEs out of her malware session, things are looking rosy for Joel as he's told the police are dropping the case against him. Speaking of the police, we got a new interior set for the station on Friday's episode - we thought it looked great, though we can't be the only ones concerned that Corrie's starting to feel more like The Bill every week... Not a whole lot of big Corrie news this week, so we skip our trip to the Kabin, and round off the show with more of your lovely listener feedback. Ep 643Emrhys Cooper Interview
We've been loving watching Emrhys Cooper in the role of the manipulative Institute recruiter Rowan Cunliffe over the past few months, and in this interview, we chat to him about what's been going on in the storyline so far. What made Emrhys swap California for the cobbles? Will Rowan find redemption or face soap justice before the story's out? What does he make of the Institute's techno-jargon, and most importantly, what level is Rowan? Tune in and find out! Also available as a video here: https://youtu.be/fOweeSZTm9s?si=TrYyk5G5yaiy0vhT
Ep 642Conversation Street Episode 642
In our latest edition of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown between the 19th and the 23rd August 2024 (Episodes #11,341 - 11,346). How brilliant was Monday's episode, eh? I don't think any of us were expecting Dee-Dee to work out the truth about Joel this long before the wedding date, but it looks like the slimy solicitor has still got a few tricks up his sleeve to evade capture... All exciting stuff, but did the follow-up to the big reveal get a bit TOO police-heavy? And speaking of all things legal, Beth's counterfeit capers get her in Kirk's bad books this week, whilst Alina discovers that if you stand up to your nail bar traffickers in court, you might just be getting a knock on the door from Heavy For Hire... Also this week, Toyah's pleased to hear that her her medical issues are all ova, but surely it's only a matter of time before her nookie with Nick comes to light... Up next on the podcast, we find out Corrie which stars up for an NTA this year and check out a few new tour options at the Coronation Street Experience, then we round things off with some more of your feedback. Ep 642Lucy-Jo Hudson Interview
Early 2005 was a dark time for the Street, and the Harris family certainly had their share of misery! And at the heart of it all was daughter Katy, who bludgeoned her father before coming to a particularly sticky end herself... With the episodes recently having aired on ITV3, we sat down for a chat with Lucy-Jo Hudson, who reflects on her two and a half years on the cobbles, the relationship with Martin Platt and the family's hasty - and harrowing - exit from the Street. Ep 641Conversation Street Episode 641
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 12th and the 16th August (Episodes #11,335 - 11,340) It's a big week for Toyah this week - not only does she have to deal with Nick's confession of love as she's recovering from major surgery, she's also roped into the whole blackmail plot with Rowan, who's demanding Nick pay him £20k by the end of the day - can't this poor girl catch a break? Meanwhile, the walls seem to be closing in on Joel - with both Dee-Dee and DS Swain starting to smell a rat, surely it can only be so long until he trips up and reveals his true colours? Also this week, Tyrone gets caught trying to get a DNA sample from Dorin, there's a new lodger at the Rovers and he's turning a few ladies' heads already, and Tracy makes a grand return to Weatherfield - and walks right into an argument with Cassie! Up next on the podcast, we chat about what Corrie related bits and pieces you can expect to see if you're heading to Manchester Pride this coming weekend, and after some listener feedback on recent storylines, we delve into a Kabin Extra segment where we try to dissect the big, spoilery news that's had Corrie fans' tongues wagging over the weekend. Ep 641We Chat Lloyd Mullaney With Shipwrecked & Comatose Podcast
For this special episode, we team up with Mark from the Shipwrecked & Comatose podcast to chat all things Lloyd Mullaney, who of course was played by Red Dwarf star Craig Charles. With Mark never having watched an episode of Corrie before save for a handful of famous Lloyd clips, it was a lot of fun chatting about the character and how he was similar to - and different from - Dave Lister. Our discussion also covers some of Lloyd's biggest moments, the issues raised by stories such as Paul Kershaw's racist remarks, and what Mark found most surprising about his first experience watching our favourite soap. Ep 640Conversation Street Episode 640
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about what went on in Weatherfield between the 5th and the 9th August (Episodes #11,329 - 11,334). It'd been a long time coming, but this week, Alina popped back to Weatherfield to give evidence against her traffickers in court - and to the surprise of absolutely nobody watching, she didn't come alone...! And if this revelation isn't enough to rock the foundations of No. 9 on its own, Hope causes a bit of a furore this week too after coming back from the medical centre with a box of condoms - if only Tyrone and Joel had taken the same precautions, eh? Also this week, Sean's fuming to find Mason working at Speed Daal, Beth gets caught with her counterfeit goods and Amy's back from the retreat - but has she been brainwashed enough to hand over her inheritance to the Institute? Ep 640Dr Gaddas: A Decade of Badassery
This week marks ten years since Dr Gaddas first graced the cobbles of Weatherfield with her fabulous presence, and to mark the occasion, we chat about the impact she's had over the decade. Why is she such a fan favourite despite making only a handful of appearances each year? Would we like to see her become a regular in the vein of DS Swain? And which Corrie characters have got Gaddas to thank for still being in the land of the living? All this, plus a look at some of the other projects that actress Christine Mackie has got up to over the years - and she's certainly been keeping herself busy! If, like us, you're a fan of the good doctor, this episode is for you!
Ep 639Conversation Street Episode 639
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown between the 29th July and the 2nd August (Episodes #11,323 - 11,327). Not gonna lie, this was definitely a bit of a 'meh' week for us this week, despite some clearly dramatic things going down on the cobbles. From Lauren's early labour to the whodunnit surrounding the fire at Stefan's office, it was all very exciting on paper... but yeah, we just weren't really feeling it. Did that stop us having a right old laugh discussing everything that was going on, though? Of course not! And we DID get to see more of the marvellous Debbie Webster, plus we were definitely satisfied with the ongoing developments in Paul's story too! And will Alina be popping back onto the Street soon... maybe with a tiny Tyrone in tow..? Guess we'll just have to wait and see! Very little in the way of news again this week, so we give the Kabin a miss again, but we did of course get a bundle of feedback about last week's fantastic Paul and Billy special, so we round off the episode reading out some of your thoughts. Street Talk - 00:13:49 Feedback - 02:34:59
Ep 639Corrieliminator Round 4
We're back for the fourth round of Corrieliminator, the game where we pit 30 randomly selected Coronation Street characters against each other and rank them, with only the top three making it through to the final round. This month, we've got some pretty big names like Hilda Ogden and Bet Lynch going head to head, and it's battle of the battleaxes as Ena Sharples, Evelyn Plummer and Ivy Tilsely are all thrown into the mix! Make sure you have your say in the listener vote this round by heading over to https://forms.gle/BdrmeRoekKwFvFTn6 and picking your top three characters! Also available as a video, where you can track which characters we're ranking where, at https://youtu.be/P2wuRRKC6Fs .
Ep 638Conversation Street Episode 638
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 22nd and the 26th July (Episodes #11,317 - 11,322). This week on Coronation Street saw another special episode dedicated to Paul and Billy's storyline, and what an episode it was! Masterful performances from the two leads, and a heartbreaking script that had us on the edge of our seats as that clock ticked towards midnight... and just to keep you guys in suspense (and also to facilitate an earlier recording session for us, to be honest!), we actually left this story until last to discuss this week. Still plenty to digest from the other stories as well though, including Toyah's devastating diagnosis, Stu taking pity on Mason and Kevin and Abi's hilarious evening out at the hotel to try out Debbie's new tasting menu! And speaking of which, wasn't Debbie fantastic on Wednesday's episode? Much more of this, Corrie, please! Not a whole lot in the way of Corrie news this week, and with the podcast already running long, we decided to give The Kabin a miss - but of course, after the feedback section, there's still time to sneak in a little Kabin Extra to chat about a bit of spoilers news that hit Corrie's socials this week... Ep 638Tramspotting
As well as going to the red carpet for the Radio Times Soap Awards, we also got the time to spend some of our recent trip to Manchester doing another handful of Corrie related activities! From staying in the hotel that once welcomed the likes of Stephen Reid, Mike Baldwin and Tracy Barlow to visiting the shop where Gemma Winter-Brown nicked a pair of shoes from, we visit some more Corrie filming locations, and even track down the elusive Coronation Street tram! Also available as a video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/aI1xAg_KH9E
Ep 637Conversation Street Episode 637
On our latest podcast, chat about about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 15th and the 19th July (Episodes #11,311 - 11,316). WitH Lauren now confirmed as definitely not dead, it doesn't take long for the word to spread on the Street. Can Joel silence her before she blabs about why she's really been in hiding all this time? Lauren's not the only plucky young blonde causing bother this week either, as Betsy, not content with just blackmailing Joel, manages to get both Carla and Beth wrapped round her little finger too. Also this week, Amy signs up to the Institute, Mason's released from prison and Kit digs for dirt on Craig. There's been a fair bit of Corrie news this week, which means a bumper edition of The Kabin, which sees us discussing stories such as the Inside Soap Awards nominations, ITV's new eBay marketplace for old costumes and props, and the reveal of Victoria Street's new Sainsbury's. We round off the show with your feedback on last week's Lauren and Joel two-hander! Street Talk - 00:10:11 The Kabin - 02:25:10 Feedback - 03:00:46
Ep 637Our Night At The Radio Times Soap Awards 2024
With the British Soap Awards on hiatus for 2024, the Radio Times stepped into the breach to put on a star studded show at the Midland Hotel in Manchester, and of course, we were there to snap the Corrie cast as they arrived! In this podcast, we chat about what it was like to get up close and personal to the stars on the red carpet and share a bunch of stories from the evening. For a video version of the podcast, accompanied by lots of photos and footage, head over to https://youtu.be/bnQGFgcpZKM?si=mUv6tlY-jq3_uJvO
Ep 636Conversation Street Episode 636
On this week's podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown on the 8th and the 9th July (Episodes #11,307 - 11,310) It's been an incredibly busy week for us - Michael's not even been home all week and we've been in Manchester for the Radio Times Soap Awards since Friday night, so this episode of the podcast has been a bit cobbled together - typical then, that the action in this week's Coronation Street has been so discussion worthy! We've seen praise heaped upon Tuesday night's semi two-hander between Joel and Lauren, but it's also raised more than a few questions amongst viewers too, so what did we think of it? This episode is a Street Talk only podcast - no quiz, news or feedback this week as we've had next to no time to record anything, but hopefully you'll enjoy listening to it just as much as we did recording and chatting about the unfolding drama!
Ep 636Conversation Street Episode 635
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street that were shown between the 1st and the 5th July 2024 (Episodes #11,301 - 11,306). Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... We thought that putting Nick and Toyah together as part of what up to that point had been a really engaging cult story was a bad move, but it turns out that was nothing compared to what Corrie had up its sleeves for poor Toyah this week. Seriously, why does everything have to get so depressing? Definitely not fans of this week's developments! At least there were moments of levity in some of the other stories. Shona wagging off work in an attempt draw Roy out from his self-imposed prison was great fun, and we loved Steve, Cassie and Tim's capers with Tommy Orpington's bust too. (Heh heh... "Bust") And at least it seems like the Shuttleworths at war story is over for now too and the pair can go back to being nice to each other again. Every cloud, eh? Not a whole lot in the way of Corrie news this week, but we do have a bit of a chat about the news that Thelma Barlow has come out of retirement for a role in in a 20-minute short film. Now can we just get a 20-minute return to Weatherfield for Mavis, please? We'd take 15..! We round off the podcast with more of your feedback. Ep 6352024: Our Reflections On The Year So Far
We've reached the start of July, so it's time to discuss our thoughts on 2024 so far! We didn't seem to get too far into the year before the knives really started coming out for Corrie in the press, and the show's been having to try and deflect a lot of criticism aimed at it since, but how much of it is really justified? In this episode, we chat about our favourite and least favourite stories of the year, ponder which characters have come out of the first six months of the year best, and discuss the behind the scenes shakeups including a new producer, and what this could mean for Corrie as it moves into the second half of the year.
Ep 634Conversation Street Episode 634
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie airing on Monday 24th and Friday 28th June (Episodes #11,297 - 11,300). Overall this was a pretty good week, we thought, which isn't always the case when the Winter-Browns are headlining! However, some excellent performances by Dolly-Rose Campbell and the addition of Kit as he saves her from prison really helped us to enjoy this week's A-story, plus we're always suckers for a bit of location shooting too! Elsewhere on the Street, we're finally introduced to DS Swain's daughter Betsy, who looks set to be a real troublemaker; Glenda and George's spat is too much for Michael to bear; and Tim has a big decision to make when it comes to how he's going to be spending Steve's birthday - we sense a bust-up at the bust unveiling is imminent! Next on the podcast, it's time for The Kabin - it's good new for Corrie as they triumph at the TRIC Awards, plus the announcement of an official 'Audience With Claire King' event for Emmerdale fans has us speculating whether something similar could be on the cards for Corrie fans in the future.. We round off the show with a great selection of feedback from listeners including a voicemail and a new iTunes review! Street Talk - 00:12:38 The Kabin - 01:53:18 Feedback - 02:15:15
Ep 634Corrieliminator: Round 3
We're back for the third round of Corrieliminator! This month, the 30 randomly selected characters from Corrie's past are fairly easy to whittle down to the Top 3, but how did we rank the rest of them? Quite a few names this month that we didn't really have strong opinions on one way or another, so it'd be interesting to know just how much our final ranking aligned with what you would say! As always, you have your chance to vote in the listener poll and pick three characters you want to go through to the listeners' Grand Finale - follow the link below to make your selection! https://forms.gle/qFcxu4EnCSRrzRCZ9 For the video version of the podcast, where you can see us sorting the characters live, head over to our YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/YdzlURRZYfY
Ep 633Conversation Street Episode #633
On this episode of the podcast, we chat about what went on in Corrie between the 18th and the 21st June (Episodes #11,291 - 11,296). A real mixed bag of a week, we thought, with Wednesday's trip to Weatherfield definitely being the highlight thanks to its cosy, heartwarming scenes like movie night at No. 5 and what we're hoping is the beginning of a redemption arc for Cassie as she she bonds with Ken following his fall. Either side of that episode, though, there was one that made us angry (Toyah and Nick... No!!) and anther whose main story of Kevin and Stefan going head to head just didn't make that big of an impression on us. Still, at least we got a random reappearance of Sabrina, who looks set to be involved in dastardly Joel's plot in some way... Up next on the podcast it's The Kabin, where we give our impressions of a new Corrie-themed tram that's going to be making its way around Manchester for the next 12 months, and we finish things off with more of your feedback. Ep 633Iain MacLeod Retrospective
Last Wednesday marked the first time that Iain MacLeod was not listed as Corrie's producer since he took over the reins from Kate Oates in late 2018. With the episodes going forward now bearing wife Verity's name, soon to be replaced by that of incoming producer Kate Brooks, Iain's time at the top on Corrie is finally at an end. Well, unless you count his promotion to Executive Producer, but that's another story... For this week's bonus podcast, we reflect on the five and a half years that Iain was in charge of steering the Good Ship Corrie, chatting about the highs and lows when it comes to stories, characters and general production. How will his time as producer be remembered? What are some hallmarks of the MacLeod era? What were his biggest hits and most disappointing misses? We discuss all this and more in this bumper of a bonus podcast!
Ep 632Conversation Street Episode 632
On this week's podcast, we cover the episodes of Coronation Street shown on the 10th and the 12th June (Episodes #11,287 - 11,290). Only a couple of Corries to chat about this week, and not too many big developments to discuss either, we thought, so a relatively short podcast to balance out the bumper eps from the past few weeks! We'd all seen it coming a mile off, but this week, Toyah and Nick finally kissed - was it just a one-off, or will this blossom into something bigger? We've certainly got our own views where that's concerned! Also this week, Summer's back from Boston, and she's not alone - but is Felix just a bit too much of a geek even for her? Meanwhile, Abi's pleased to hear that Corey's documentary has been taken down, Glenda and George are still at loggerheads (despite Debbie's best efforts...) and Ken has a bit of a tumble - but will he accept his family's support? Up next on the podcast it's The Kabin, where we finally have a name and release month for Charlie Lawson's autobiography, and we finish things off with a bit of feedback. Ep 632Simon Barlow Character Profile Revisit
This week, we run down the life story of Simon Barlow, picking up from where we left off when we last profiled him in Episode #70 of the podcast eleven years ago! Ah, what high hopes we had for the little cherub back then, as he was just about to enter his teenage years! In this episode, we chat about his biggest stories from the past decade, reflect on why a member of the Barlow clan was allowed to become so underused and ponder whether now was the right time for his exit from the show.
Ep 631Conversation Street Episode 631
In our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown between the 3rd and the 7th June 2024 (Episodes #11,281 - 11,286). After last week's reveal that Joel was responsible for Lauren's disappearance, he was in full-on skulky villain mode this week - and of course, we were loving it! But with Dee-Dee accepting his marriage proposal on Wednesday, will she discover the truth about her new fiancé before he gets her up the aisle? Meanwhile, we said bye bye Si on Monday as the third member of the Barlow clan in six months headed off to the Med to start a new life - and Leanne has a VERY unusual way of coping with the grief of losing another another son! Also this week, things are hotting up between Glenda and Michael, Roy continues to distance himself from his friends, and Kevin and Abi discover just how much it would cost to suppress her A.I. videos online - does anyone want to club together and pay the same so that we never have to see that freaky Oli monstrosity again too...? Up next on the podcast it's The Kabin, where we talk about Shelley King's recent autism diagnosis, the fab new Women of Weatherfield photoshoot and a bizarre story about Jimmi Harkishin getting into a spot of bother in a B&Q - but of course, the spoilery nature of Corrie's biggest news story of the week means there's also a meaty Kabin Extra segment at the end of the show too after we've read out some listener feedback! Street Talk - 00:15:29 The Kabin - 02:38:37 Feedback - 02:56:32 Kabin Extra - 03:22:08
Ep 631Mark Llewellin Interview
In this episode, we chat to Corrie expert Mark Llewellin, who has just this week published his memoirs, entitled With Friends Like These. In the book, he shares stories from over the years about getting to know some of Corrie's biggest names, including Julie Goodyear, Jill Summers and Roy Barraclough, Mark's partner for over 25 years. He really is a fascinating guy, and here, he shares some of the brilliant anecdotes from the book, talking lovingly about many of his Weatherfield pals and sharing some of the many priceless trinkets and treasures from Coronation Street that he's been given over the years. If you're interested in picking up a copy of the book yourself, you can order it from Amazon UK here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D45HSSDL?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_DVN6QNTWXNRF1JEP375X
Ep 630Conversation Street Episode 630
Britain's Got Talent week is here again! Well, it WAS here. So let's crank up The Lark Ascending, hit that rewind button and recap the week in Weatherfield between the 27th and the 31st May (Episodes #11,276 - 11,280). Everyone watching this week's Corrie most likely went into Monday's episode with their theories about what was going to happen - and if you were anything like us, you were probably right with a lot of it. The identity of Lauren's so-called killer, the outcome of Roy's confrontation with Griff that was teased when we were shown his makeshift blade last week, the budding romantic tension between Carla and Swain... but despite the week still being relatively low on shocks, we really did quite enjoy it - for the most part. The 'different perspectives' schtick wasn't necessarily needed, but it was fun for the three days it lasted, and the flashbacks on Thursday - especially the one with Joel looking at himself in the mirror - were especially effective. There was a lot to unpack this week and it actually turned out to be one our longest ever Street Talk segments, so after recapping some of the week's big news stories in The Kabin, we decided to end the podcast there. We will get to that feedback eventually, though, we promise!
