Ep 662Conversation Street Episode 662
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown between the 6th and the 10th January (Episodes #11,461 - 11,466). Wow, what an incredible week that was! After the all-too perfect happy ending that was being built up for Mason last week, we had a feeling that he might not be making it out of Monday's episode alive, but we weren't expecting an episode quite like that. In a sequence that was part dream, part parallel universe, Corrie showed us what might have happened had Dylan not bought that zombie knife a few months back, before ultimately revealing how it actually led to Mason's tragic end. There were powerhouse performances all round as characters reacted to the news of the stabbing, and plenty of discussion was generated relating to who was ultimately responsible for 2024's first death on the cobbles. Not only that, but we also said a fond (and hopefully temporary) farewell to Evelyn as she headed off to university, whilst over at the prison, Bobby has a big request for a familiar face from the past... Next up on the podcast, it's The Kabin, where we take a look at the non-spoilery Corrie news of the week, and we finish things off with more of your fantastic feedback. Ep 662Spoilercast!
What a week it’s been for #Corrie! Whether you love spoilers or loathe them, news about the next twelve months on the cobbles has been everywhere this week - and for big fans of the show, most of it has been pretty hard to avoid. Although we usually steer clear of spoiler talk on the podcast, we couldn’t resist weighing in on what’s been revealed this week, especially since it’s also the perfect chance to discuss some of the 2025 storylines teased by new producer Kate Brooks at the press day we attended back in November. If you’re avoiding spoilers, this is one to skip - but if you’re keen to hear our take on some of Corrie’s biggest upcoming news and rumours, sit back and enjoy!
Ep 662Corrie in 2024: A Year In Review
In this week’s bonus episode, we take a deep dive into all things Coronation Street in 2024 - a year where the drama behind the scenes often rivalled what was playing out on screen! From the departure of producer Iain Macleod and the early releases on ITVX, to a wave of concerning press articles about the state of our beloved soap, it was certainly a bit of a challenging year to be a Corrie fan. But as always, there were plenty of moments that stood out for the right reasons. For every misstep - like the George and Glenda feud - there were episodes, stories, and characters that captured our imagination, including Paul's heartbreaking journey with MND and the chaotic antics at the Institute. We also had the multiple twists of the Joel and Lauren saga, the credulity-stretching reveal of Toyah’s baby, the undeniable charm of Dorin, and of course... #Swarla. In this episode, we’ll unpack everything we loved, everything that didn’t quite hit the mark, and everything in between. We hope you enjoy the ride!
Ep 661Conversation Street Episode 661
On our first episode of the 2025, we chat about what went down in Weatherfield between the 30th December and the 3rd January (Episodes #11,454 - 11,460). Swarla fans may not have got their Christmas Day pizza fest, but there was plenty of the pair on our screens this week to enjoy, including an impromptu declaration of love from Carla as the bells tolled midnight on New Year's Eve - but are her feelings reciprocated? Speaking of the Swains, Betsy's getting all loved up with Mason this week, but when he finds evidence that could get his brothers sent down for murder, he suddenly finds himself with a massive target on his back... Also this week, Evelyn gets fast tracked to uni, David declares war on Kit, and Tracy's determined to bring Cassie down. Another slow news week this week, so after Street Talk, we just round things off with a bit of feedback before finishing. Street Talk - 00:19:50 Feedback - 02:31:15
Ep 661The Conversation Street Awards 2024
2024 was another exciting year for Coronation Street, and it's time to award those characters, stories and moments that we enjoyed the best! The Conversation Street Awards were voted by you, our followers and listeners, and now we reveal who you picked! Also available as a shorter, video version on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/Jl25QYP6DcM
Ep 660Conversation Street Episode 660
Merry Christmas everyone! In our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the festive - and not so festive! - goings on in Weatherfield between the 23rd and 27th December (Episodes #11,447 - 11,453). Before we dive into our usual Street Talk segment, we've got a bit of a Christmas treat for you: an interview with new Corrie producer Kate Brooks! When we were at the recent press day, we were able to grab Kate for five minutes to ask her about her vision for the show now she's at the helm - tune in to find out what she had to say! Up next on the podcast, it's business as usual with our recap of the week's episodes - and what a great week it was! The biggest event, of course, was Gail's departure from Weatherfield after 50 glorious years on the show. Did it manage to hit all the right notes, and what did we make of that very special cameo at the end of Tuesday's episode? Second billing this week went to the Battersby sisters, who came to blows in a Christmas Day punch up at the Bistro. As fans of both characters, we've decided that it's best not to pick a side here - we prefer to just sit back and enjoy the chaos unfold! Also this week, Shona admits to David she's been unfaithful, Mason tries his best to ingratiate himself to Carla and Lisa, and Daisy finds herself in the middle of her very own 'Who's The Daddy?' story! Unfortunately, we had to cut the podcast short after Street Talk as we had a five hour drive ahead of us, so no news or feedback this week - hopefully, normal service will resume next episode! 00:15:17 - Kate Brooks Interview 00:26:29 - StreetTalk
Ep 660The A-Z Of Gail
After 50 years, Gail has finally bid a fond farewell to Weatherfield and headed off to a new life in the south of France. In this special tribute episode of the podcast, we bring you the A-Z of all things Gail, from Audrey to... well, you'll just have to wait and see how we managed to scrape the bottom of the barrel with the tail end of the alphabet! Focusing on the characters, stories, moments and even memes that make Gail an icon not only of Corrie but of television as a whole, this special episode of the podcast celebrates the life of one of the most enduring characters of our favourite soap. Also available on YouTube, featuring around 300 photos of Gail during here time in the show! https://youtu.be/XRsO2unD5QE
Ep 659Conversation Street Episode 659
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about what went on in Corrie between the 16th and the 20th December (Episodes #11,441 - 11,446). It may be the season of goodwill an' all, but sorry, we just can't bring ourselves to feel all that charitable about the Lauren story this week, which reared its head again with a fresh batch of misery for the terminally tragic teen. This time, Frankie's being diagnosed with aplastic anaemia - will Dee-Dee step in to help, even if it means keeping her own unwanted baby? Also this week, the word's slowly starting to get out that Daisy was the one who caused Shona's injury last week - though that's nothing compared to the hot gossip that Sally picks up on Friday when she sees Carla and Lisa kissing on the cobbles! Meanwhile, preparations for Gail and Jesse's wedding are in full force, though is Audrey right about her making a massive mistake? Up next, it's The Kabin, and we chat about Lorna Laidlaw's recent appearance on another podcast talking about her time on Corrie, and we round off the show with some more of your feedback. The time has come once again to cast your votes in the annual Conversation Street Awards, now in its 13th year! Ep 658Conversation Street Episode 658
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about what went on in Corrie between the 9th and the 13th December (Episodes #11,435 - 11,440). It may have made things a bit tricky when we were writing out the notes for the episode, but there was quite a bit of criss-crossing over of stories this week, which we always enjoy - and even better when drama with the Platts is at the centre of it! Gail and Jesse's wedding plans, Max taking his eye off the ball with Frankie and getting him whisked away by the Deerings, and, of course, all the intrigue surrounding Shona's accident on Monday night made for another explosive week on the cobbles, and we had a great time chatting about our reaction to it all. Not only that, but we also had Daniel and Daisy getting closer again, some brilliant scenes with Evelyn and even a new actor playing little Harry - great stuff! Not really very much in terms of news this week, so we skip over The Kabin section again and finish off with more of your feedback. Street Talk - 00:17:01 Feedback - 02:48:28
Ep 658Stu Carpenter Character Profile
Our bonus episode this week is a character profile of Stu Carpenter, who left Weatherfield for pastures new a couple of months ago after three years on the cobbles. After strumming his way onto the street in 2021, the guitar-playing vagabond-turned-Speed Daal chef has been involved in a handful of big stories over the years, most notably when we found out about the truth behind his wrongful imprisonment that saw him serve nearly thirty years behind bars. But how will Stu be remembered - as a lively breath of fresh air or an underused character who never quite reached his potential? Join us for a look back at his time on the street in our latest podcast!
Ep 657Conversation Street Episode 657
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 2nd and the 6th December (Episodes #11,429 - 11,434). Christmas time is nearly here, and as an early present, Corrie gave us a reprieve from all the police stories (well, mostly..) and instead focused on two of our favourite families of the Street: the Platts and the Battersbys. They may have been at each other's throats or otherwise ready to fall to pieces, but what's a soap Christmas without a family bust-up, eh? Leanne's plan to get revenge on her disloyal sister was delicious, and although we're always on the side of David and Shona staying together, we can't deny we were hooked by the mystery of what she got up to on Wednesday night... Meanwhile, you've got classic Corrie callbacks aplenty with Les' funeral, Rowan's on trial, plus there's plenty of Debbie Webster and even a rare Gail appearance... all in all, a lot to sink our teeth into! After Street Talk, it's The Kabin, and we couldn't not discuss the front page news about the reasons behind Sean Wilson's axing. Plus, the Christmas TV schedules are out, so when can we expect to see the festive Street drama over the festive fortnight? We round off the show as always with some of your feedback. Ep 657Corrieliminator: Round 7
It's been a bit of a while since Round 6, but Corrieliminator is back! Once again, we've got another set of thirty randomly chosen characters from across the years to rank and Corrieliminate, leaving only a handful to make it to next year's grand finale. From legends like Deirdre and Derek to... more forgettable characters like Mel Morton and Lucy Barlow (see, we had to put their surnames in so you knew who we were talking about!), everyone's case is put forward - but only three can get through to the next round! If you'd like to have a say in the listener vote, head over to https://forms.gle/VRsmjGJraDKpFB4j6
Ep 656Conversation Street Episode 656
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about what went on in Corrie between the 25th and the 29th November (Episodes #11,423 - 11,428) Bit of a funny week for us this week as the pair of us watched two of the episodes separately from each other, so recording Street Talk was the first time we actually got to hear each other's opinions on the week's goings on! To cut a long story short, we're both very much invested in the revenge that Leanne is plotting for Nick after discovering that he and Toyah are still having it off behind her back - and the prospect of seasoned vindictive cow Tracy Barlow acting as spurned Leanne's second in command makes us all the more excited! Also this week, Carla gets a bonk on the bonce when Mason's brothers are interrupted breaking into the factory - will her near-death experience spur her on to making a proper go of it with Lisa? Meanwhile, Alya returns to Weatherfield and spares no time in picking up where she left off with Adam, Lauren finds out whether or not Frankie can join her in the clink, and we learn of the off-screen death of Les Battersby - but was giving the character the heave-ho in this way a good move? Although there's a bit of news we could have covered this week, for various reasons we decide to put it off until next week's podcast, but we still manage to squeeze in a bit of your feedback before we finish things off - including another lovely iTunes review! Street Talk - 00:16:06 Feedback - 02:38:35
Ep 655Conversation Street Episode 655
On our latest podcast, we have a natter about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 18th and the 22nd November (Episodes #11,417 - 11,422). It's the aftermath of the big whodunnit week, and Max is behind bars again after confessing to the murder to protect Lauren. Unfortunately for him, when David and Shona find out about what he's done, David's happy to throw Lauren under the bus - but did he do the right thing? Meanwhile, there are some saucy Swain and Connor scenes this week, as the latter decides to Swarla her pride after weeks of hesitancy and jump between the sheets with the undercover detective. Also this week, Mason's brothers are on the prowl, Dee-Dee finds out she's up the duff-duff, and Cassie resorts to desperate measures to keep her job as Ken's carer. In The Kabin, we celebrate Corrie's recent wins at the RTS NW Awards, and we finish things off with some lovely feedback. Street Talk - 00:10:52 The Kabin - 02:25:07 Feedback - 02:34:59
Ep 655Whodunnit?
Following last week’s big reveal of who killed Joel, our latest bonus podcast dives into Coronation Street’s rich history with whodunnits. Our favourite soap has been keeping viewers guessing about killers’ identities as far back as the 1960s, with some of the most iconic examples including the murder of Frank Foster and, of course, the tragic death of Rana Habeeb in the Underworld roof collapse. But it’s not just murders we discuss - we also revisit times Corrie gave us suspect lists for other crimes, like when Ken was pushed down the stairs and when Adam was bludgeoned in the Bistro. So, what makes a great soap whodunnit? And which ones are our absolute favourites? That’s exactly what we explore in this week's episode!
Ep 654Conversation Street Episode 654
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 11th and the 15th November (Episodes #11,411 - 11,416). All the flashbacks, intrigue and misdirection have been leading up to this week's big reveal of who killed Joel, and in this episode, we chat about our reactions to whodunnit. Was it everything we'd hoped it'd be? (Not quite..) Was there anything that we definitely didn't see coming? (Absolutely!) Were all the loose ends tied up? (Definitely not!) Corrie may claim to have shown us everything that happened on the night of Joel's murder, but we can't help but feel like we'll be flashbacking to the 27th September at least one more time before this story is through.. Also this week, Shona's ne'erdowell son Clayton makes a return to our screens for the first time in over four years - but has he really seen the light? And speaking of redeemed wrong'uns, just how much sympathy are we supposed to be having for Mason right now? Lots to talk about in this week's show, so we hope you enjoy (even if you may not necessarily agree with us 100%..!) Just a little bit of news in The Kabin this week, including the reveal that Alan Halsall will indeed be going into the jungle for this year's series of I'm A Celebrity, and we round the podcast off with more of your feedback. Ep 654Behind The Scenes At The Coronation Street Press Day
Recently, we were lucky enough to be invited to a press day at Coronation Street, where as well as being able to schmooze with the stars at the recently refurbished Chariot Square hotel, we had the chance to explore the treasure trove that is the Corrie Prop store, meet new producer Kate Brooks, and even team up with a pair of cast members to take part in a pub quiz - held in the Rovers Return and hosted by Sally Ann Matthews! Also available as a video over on our YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/5jFZAvAGvHU
Ep 653Conversation Street Episode 653
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown between the 4th and the 8th November 2024 (Episodes #11,405 - 11,410). Things are certainly hotting up in the murder mystery story this week, and our prime candidate for whodunnit Kit has finally joined the official list of suspects. There's an awful lot of evidence pointing towards him for sure, but could Corrie be planning one last twist in the tale? Also this week, we had Paul's space launch on Wednesday. And if you think that sounds weird, by the end of the week we had characters talking about ghostly apparitions and Paul's essence being in an alternative dimension. All part of that gritty, down to earth drama that Corrie's famous for, eh? (We jest - we did pretty much like it on the whole!) Also this week, Tim discovers Mason's been hiding out in the shed and soon becomes his surrogate Stu as he sees the good in the once zombie knife bearing scallywag. As well as that, there's more stoma drama for Bethany, a visiting order from Clayton... all in all, it was a pretty jam-packed week! Up next on the podcast, we chat about some of the new items of merch available on the ITV website (including a pretty nifty Corrie Christmas jumper) and we round things of with a load of your excellent Joel theories in our feedback section. Street Talk - 00:10:47 The Kabin - 02:39:21 Feedback - 02:45:43
Ep 653Three Days In Weatherfield
Recently, we headed up to Manchester for a few days to see a performance of KIN, the fantastic two-woman play penned by Corrie's Christine Mackie (Dr Gaddas). While we were there, we also headed over to the Coronation Street Experience to check out some changes to the gift shop, chatted with some of the cast members outside the studio gates, and tracked down a few more filming locations, including the spot where Peter's iconic AA meeting was shot and the place where Joel's cars were recently found after his disappearance! In this video, we chat about all that and much more! Also available as a video, with loads of photos and footage from our trip here: https://youtu.be/D0_v5XhmPjA
Ep 652Conversation Street Episode 652
We're up in Manchester for a few days at the moment with a bit of a busy schedule, so this week's podcast is a Street Talk only affair, covering the episode of Corrie shown in the UK between the 28th October and the 1st November (Episodes #11,399 - 11,404) The flashbacks return in this week's episodes of Corrie, giving us a few more hints as to what happened the night of Joel's death. Since the start, we've been pretty convinced it was Kit who did him in (or maybe Gus at a long shot) but is the whodunit still working to keep us interested? Also this week, the Dev's Devving it up to the max at the quads' birthday party, leading to a surprise popping the question that goes down like a lead balloon - can he and Bernie recover? Meanwhile, Cassie and Steve spend the night together, the news of Gail's engagement starts to spread and Mason pulls Liam from in front of a speeding car - are we seeing a redemption story here, and is he the kind of character we really want to see being redeemed?
Ep 652Cobblestone Chillers
Our Halloween homage to some of literature's spookiest stories and poems with a Weatherfield twist: we present to you our Cobblestone Chillers! Turn off the light and huddle under covers as you enjoy our Corrie adaptations of tales including Jabberwocky, The Telltale Heart and H.P. Lovecraft's haunting work, The Shadow Over Innsmouth.
Ep 651Conversation Street Episode 651
Greetings from the future! This weekend's podcast covers the episodes of Corrie airing between the 21st and the 27th October (Episodes #11,393 - 11,398), so if you've not watched the early upload of Sunday's episode on ITVX yet, you might want to hold fire on listening to this straight away as there are spoilers aplenty! It was a proper Platt-centric set of episodes on this week's Corrie, and even Gail was back on Wednesday after being conspicuously absent from her own story for the past fortnight. Not that she wasn't having a rough time of it though - in fact, she was barely back five minutes before she was being carted off to casualty with a heart attack! Elsewhere on the Street, both Kit and Gus are keeping a close eye on Dee-Dee - but are they just hoping she'll lead them towards clues about Joel's killer, or have they got something to hide themselves? Meanwhile, Cassie's presence at No. 1 continues to irk Steve, Nick struggles to resist his feelings for Toyah, and there are critters in the pittas at Speed Daal... Not a whole lot in the way of news this week, but we do check out a new set of official Corrie merch on the ITV shop - and it doesn't exactly get a a glowing review... We round off the show with more of your thoughts on Joel's killer, Stu's hasty exit and the early uploads in the feedback segment. Street Talk - 00:19:30 The Kabin - 02:35:09 Feedback - 02:43:43
Ep 651Corrie's Summer Of Comedy 2005
The Summer of 2005 is remembered by many Corrie fans for all the wrong reasons. Hot on the heels of dark, dramatic storylines such as Killer Katy and Mad Maya, the June to August period saw the show taking a much less headline-grabbing change of pace. While Charlie’s abuse of Shelley continued to simmer in the background, most of the other stories taking up screen time were there primarily to make us laugh. From Scooter and Sarah's koi carp caper to the boxing ring clash between Ashley and a rival butcher, not every story was a hit, but does the period deserve the derision it so often receives? Having just watched the episodes on ITV3 recently, Michael's here to share his thoughts!
Ep 651Conversation Street Episode 650
Today's podcast covers what went on in Corrie between the 14th and the 18th October 2024 (Episodes #11,387 - 11,392) It's another extra-long show this week, but not because of another lengthy Michael rant about the scheduling - nope, this time it's because we've got a murder mystery on our hands (and unlike the Lauren one back in the Spring, this time somebody's actually been murdered!). Yep, Joel turned up dead in a sack on Monday's visit to Weatherfield, and there are plenty of characters with the motive and the opportunity to have done him in. Did Mason do it as payback for Joel's treatment of Betsy? Did God-fearing Dee-Dee go Old Testament on his arse? Or maybe it's just what at this point seems to be the most obvious suspect, DC Kit Green. There are still plenty of clues still to be revealed in flashbacks, but we try to piece together all the evidence so far. Joel's not the only character we had to wave bye-bye to this week either, as Stu hangs up his whites and heads of for a new life in Germany - and not even Yasmeen seems that bothered by it! We've also got more drama at the Platts (with no sign of Gail!), a trip to A&E for Sam, and yet another 'the Winter-Browns are poor' story. It wasn't all gold, but on the whole, we thought it was a pretty decent week! Up next on the podcast, we take a look at why Shelley King and Julie Hesmondhalgh are teaming up for a good cause, and finish off the show with some of your thoughts on the early ITVX uploads in The Kabin. Ep 650Beth Sutherland Character Profile Revisit
Back when we first profiled Beth in Episode #122 of the podcast, she'd only been a regular on the cobbles a few years. Fast forward a decade and the stylish stitcher has sewn her last gusset at Underworld, moving onto pastures new in Norfolk. This week, we take a look back at what she's been up to in the last ten years, reliving our favourite Beth moments and pondering whether she lived up to the expectations we had of her back in her first profile!
Ep 649Conversation Street Episode 649
On our latest edition of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 7th and the 11th October 2024 (Episodes #11,381 - 11,386). After kicking off the show with some impressions of The Street of Lies, Corrie's brand new choose your own adventure book set in 1983, we delve into the week's episodes, and the minefield that is the return of Jesse Chadwick combined with the official start of Swarla relationship. We've all seen the romance between this pair coming a mile off, and although there's still a good deal of denial going on from both characters after the electric scenes on Monday, they now seem to be a lock-in for Corrie's next big couple... and we've got a lot to say about it! Same with Jesse's return, as the forgotten cowboy (no, he wasn't a clown) mosies back into Weatherfield with his heart set on Gail. Yes, we know a lot of viewers would have preferred Martin or, well, pretty much anyone other than who we got, but we're giving Corrie a bit of a break here, and actually, we've enjoyed what we've seen so far! Also this week, Hope's vape habit nearly leads to a blazing inferno at No. 9, Mason's brother Logan makes his debut, and Paul's family discover a letter containing his final wishes. Up next on the show, it's The Kabin, and unsurprisingly, the news that Corrie is moving permanently to 'online first' morning uploads dominates the discussion. We're both feeling pretty strongly about this shake-up to the scheduling, and we don't necessarily agree with each other either! If you're a fan of a good Conversation Street rant, hopefully you won't be disappointed with this one! And that's not the only Corrie news this week either! Stephen Reid's jacket going up for sale on ITV Reloved, a royal visit to the set, and some sad news about the death of a Corrie icon from the 70s... There's a lot to cover here! In fact, it's probably for the best that we didn't have a whole lot of feedback this week - although one email from a listener whose friend was an extra in a recent scene still manages to end up causing a bit of a segue into a discussion about Corrie's sustainability efforts.. Yep, all and all it's a long show this week - we hope you enjoy! Street Talk - 00:22:20 The Kabin - 02:39:18 Feedback - 03:34:01
Ep 649Corrieliminator: Round 6
We're into the second half of the Corrielimination now, and this month's random selection of characters includes another quite tricky bunch to sort! We've got serial killers going head to head, a battle of the beards, and... some admittedly pretty poor characters who fought it out in the race to the bottom! A video version of the episode can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/aLcZr7j-3gU Don't forget, you can also have your say in this month's selection by voting for your Top 3 characters in the listener poll over at https://forms.gle/ZUhmEuHnVkFmSZGJA
Ep 648Conversation Street Episode 648
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 30th September and the 4th October (Episodes #11,375 - 11,380). Overall, we thought this was a pretty damn good week of Coronation Street! Going into it, we knew that there'd be the funeral and the rave, of course, and there'd likely be more argy-bargy between Billy and Bernie; plus, there was that mysterious voice message left by Joel last week that would have to be followed up on. What we weren't expecting was a surprise pregnancy for Fiz, a surprise reappearance for Denny and Gail (not together, we hasten to add!), or that we'd get some beautiful location shots to set the scene for Dee-Dee, Lisa and Kit's investigation that would lead up champing at the bit to find out what on earth has befallen Weatherfield's slipperiest solicitor... It certainly wasn't perfect (we don't know what irritates us more - Kirk being a donut or those awful CGI firework), but all in all, we had a great time discussing what went on in Weatherfield this week! Up next on the podcast, it's The Kabin, and good news all round as the Corrie folks take home a bunch of awards from the Inside Soap ceremony before gathering for the first full cast photo in a decade. We round off the show with more of your fantastic feedback. Street Talk - 00:11:19 The Kabin - 02:42:18 Feedback - 02:54:22
Ep 648Peter Ash Interview
After succumbing to MND earlier this month, Paul Foreman may no longer be with us, but Peter Ash is alive and kicking - and here on the podcast to chat about his six years playing Paul Foreman! We chat about what it was like to work with the MND Association to bring Paul's journey with the condition to screen, the importance of keeping an element of humour to the story, and reminisce over some of his earlier moments on the cobbles too. Also available as a video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/HNFMC0YrUtM
Ep 647Conversation Street Episode 647
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 23rd and the 27th September 2024 (Episodes #11,369 - 11,374). It feels like so long since Corrie has done any filming abroad... and that trend continues this week despite the numerous scenes set in a Turkish hospital. And the reason for this little faux jaunt? Why, to raise more issues of course! Well we certainly won't be heading to southeastern Europe for liposuction any time soon, we can tell you that. To be fair, and despite predicting the contrary when we first heard about this story, we actually quite enjoyed Bethany's scenes this week, which felt like a bit of a fresh spin on the usual Corrie medical drama. Also this week, Joel's hatching some kind of plan that combines charitable donations, acting drunk and an almighty dollop of ominous background music.. but what exactly is he up to? Meanwhile, Hope's still on the vapes, Stu's back to defending Mason and Paul and Bernie finally manage to reach some kind of compromise regarding Paul's funeral. Up next in The Kabin, we take a look at who's in the running from Corrie as the shortlist for next week's Inside Soap Awards is revealed, and we round off the show with more of your feedback. Ep 647Christine Mackie Interview
For ten years now, we’ve enjoyed watching Christine Mackie as Dr Susan Gaddas, the go-to GP for Weatherfield residents. In this interview, Christine chats about her favourite moments diagnosing some of Corrie’s biggest legends. From treating everyone from Steve McDonald to Roy Cropper, to that memorable scene where Tim Metcalfe’s bares his bits – we cover it all! Does she think Gaddas should become a regular character? How hard is it to memorise all that medical jargon? And just what does she think of that Badass nickname? Tune in and find out!
Ep 646Conversation Street Episode 646
On our latest edition of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 16th and the 20th September 2024 (Episodes #11,363 - 11,368). As Joel got hauled into Weatherfield Police Station for the umpteenth time and Lauren spent yet another set of episodes standing over Frankie's incubator looking tragic, we were definitely starting to get a little weary of Swain and Dee-Dee's investigations this week, but with the CPS *finally* agreeing to charge him on Friday, it looks like things might now be set to move forward. We might not have had too much to say about that story, but the aftermath of Paul's death certainly elicited some lively discussion - we're very much on Team Billy here and think that Bernie's being totally out of order... though we realise that that's not necessarily the prevailing opinion among viewers! Also this week, everyone's jetting off abroad, as Tracy returns to Spain, Bethany finds a job in Turkey and Tyrone fails to stop Alina returning to Romania with Dorin. In The Kabin, we cover the news of the second loss to the Corrie family in as many weeks as Don Brennan actor Geoff Hinsliff passes away, and we round the show off with more of your feedback. Ep 646Jed Stone Character Profile
This week's bonus podcast is a character profile of Jed Stone, following the sad news of actor Kenneth Cope's passing last week. A bit of a proto-Eddie Yeats figure, Jed ducked and dived his way around Weatherfield during the 1960s, though he's perhaps best known in this stint for his touching relationship with landlady Minnie Caldwell. Jed returned to the cobbles 42 years later in 2008, and many of you will remember how he almost came a cropper at the hands of Tony Gordon!
Ep 645Conversation Street Episode #645
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown on the 9th and the 13th September 2024 (Episodes #11,359 - 11,362). There were tears aplenty this week as Paul finally succumbed to his MND in a dramatic episode on Monday which, though utterly heartbreaking at times, still managed to get in some of humour that's been running through this storyline since the start. With top notch performances from all the leads, we were very much satisfied with how the episode panned out - but will Billy and Bernie be able to put their differences aside to plan Paul the funeral he deserves? Also this week, Leanne manages to bring down Rowan, Tyrone resorts to desperate measures to stop Alina taking Dorin to Romania, and Swain makes a breakthrough in her secret pursuit of Joel. Up next in the podcast it's the Kabin, where we celebrate Peter Ash's win at the NTAs, and we round off the show with some of your feedback, including a passionate defence of the Swarla story! Ep 645Paul Foreman Character Profile
After six years, Paul Foreman's time on the cobbles finally came to an end this week, and in this bonus episode of the podcast, we take a look back at his story. From his introduction as David's cellmate back in 2018 to his battle with MND over the past 18 months, we chat about his most memorable moments, reflect on our changing opinions of the character over the years, and discuss the highs and the lows of his relationship with Billy.
Ep 644Conversation Street Episode 644
On this edition of the podcast, we chat about what went down in Weatherfield between the 2nd and the 6th September 2024 (Episodes 11,353 - 11,358). It's only been a few weeks since we were on the edge of our seats since the big Dee-Dee and Joel reveal episodes, but we were right there again on Wednesday night when Leanne discovered the truth about Nick and Toyah's secret affair. But with the 'sisters before misters' stance she takes on Friday, is that one relationship that's not getting any further off the ground? (Sorry Nick and Toyah shippers, but we can only hope!) Meanwhile, Swain doubles down on her pursuit of Joel, but is it at the expense of her relationship with her daughter? Also this week, Paul writes his manifesto, Cassie and Tracy lock horns and the magical money fairy of Weatherfield waves her wand Webster-wards. Up next in the Kabin, we discuss Simon Gregson's surprising new side project, and we round off the podcast with more of your feedback. Street Talk - 00:14:21 The Kabin - 02:24:23 Feedback - 02:35:32
Ep 644Corrieliminator Round 5
Corrieliminator is back for Round 5, and if you thought last month was difficult when we were trying to whittle the selection down to a final three, this month is totally brutal! After picking our random names for the round, it was clear we'd have to sacrifice some bone fide legends this round, but hey - that's just the name of the game in Corrieliminator! Make sure you vote for your Top 3 from Round 5's selection over at the following link: https://forms.gle/J6cEnHzTkZsp2oZVA This episode is also available in video form here: https://youtu.be/a-76dbxfmXQ?si=DgB46YTxJYJfY1ga
Ep 643Conversation Street Episode 643
On this week's podcast, we cover the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 26th and the 30th August (Episodes #11,347 - 11,352). You might have seen from our social media that we had another trip to Manchester last weekend, and although we sadly weren't able to see Barbara Knox at Pride, we did take a trip to the Coronation Street Experience again, this time with some family members in tow. Before we kick off the Street Talk segment this week, we chat a bit about our time there, including a few small changes to the tour since our last visit, plus our Star Tour encounter with Antony Cotton. And yes, we were still able to keep the existence of the podcast a secret from our family while we were there too! Up next on the podcast, we move onto the meat of the show, this week's Street Talk. It had been long rumoured that Beth would be leaving Coronation Street this year, and this week she finally said her teary goodbyes to Weatherfield after being driven out of town by Kit. He wasn't the only shady villain roaming the Street this week either; in fact, Rowan and Joel were both up to no good too. However, whilst Rowan's starting to sweat after Amy CTRL-ALT-DELETEs out of her malware session, things are looking rosy for Joel as he's told the police are dropping the case against him. Speaking of the police, we got a new interior set for the station on Friday's episode - we thought it looked great, though we can't be the only ones concerned that Corrie's starting to feel more like The Bill every week... Not a whole lot of big Corrie news this week, so we skip our trip to the Kabin, and round off the show with more of your lovely listener feedback. Ep 643Emrhys Cooper Interview
We've been loving watching Emrhys Cooper in the role of the manipulative Institute recruiter Rowan Cunliffe over the past few months, and in this interview, we chat to him about what's been going on in the storyline so far. What made Emrhys swap California for the cobbles? Will Rowan find redemption or face soap justice before the story's out? What does he make of the Institute's techno-jargon, and most importantly, what level is Rowan? Tune in and find out! Also available as a video here: https://youtu.be/fOweeSZTm9s?si=TrYyk5G5yaiy0vhT
Ep 642Conversation Street Episode 642
In our latest edition of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown between the 19th and the 23rd August 2024 (Episodes #11,341 - 11,346). How brilliant was Monday's episode, eh? I don't think any of us were expecting Dee-Dee to work out the truth about Joel this long before the wedding date, but it looks like the slimy solicitor has still got a few tricks up his sleeve to evade capture... All exciting stuff, but did the follow-up to the big reveal get a bit TOO police-heavy? And speaking of all things legal, Beth's counterfeit capers get her in Kirk's bad books this week, whilst Alina discovers that if you stand up to your nail bar traffickers in court, you might just be getting a knock on the door from Heavy For Hire... Also this week, Toyah's pleased to hear that her her medical issues are all ova, but surely it's only a matter of time before her nookie with Nick comes to light... Up next on the podcast, we find out Corrie which stars up for an NTA this year and check out a few new tour options at the Coronation Street Experience, then we round things off with some more of your feedback. Ep 642Lucy-Jo Hudson Interview
Early 2005 was a dark time for the Street, and the Harris family certainly had their share of misery! And at the heart of it all was daughter Katy, who bludgeoned her father before coming to a particularly sticky end herself... With the episodes recently having aired on ITV3, we sat down for a chat with Lucy-Jo Hudson, who reflects on her two and a half years on the cobbles, the relationship with Martin Platt and the family's hasty - and harrowing - exit from the Street. Also available in video at https://youtu.be/BXwrQSwSph4
Ep 641Conversation Street Episode 641
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Coronation Street shown in the UK between the 12th and the 16th August (Episodes #11,335 - 11,340) It's a big week for Toyah this week - not only does she have to deal with Nick's confession of love as she's recovering from major surgery, she's also roped into the whole blackmail plot with Rowan, who's demanding Nick pay him £20k by the end of the day - can't this poor girl catch a break? Meanwhile, the walls seem to be closing in on Joel - with both Dee-Dee and DS Swain starting to smell a rat, surely it can only be so long until he trips up and reveals his true colours? Also this week, Tyrone gets caught trying to get a DNA sample from Dorin, there's a new lodger at the Rovers and he's turning a few ladies' heads already, and Tracy makes a grand return to Weatherfield - and walks right into an argument with Cassie! Up next on the podcast, we chat about what Corrie related bits and pieces you can expect to see if you're heading to Manchester Pride this coming weekend, and after some listener feedback on recent storylines, we delve into a Kabin Extra segment where we try to dissect the big, spoilery news that's had Corrie fans' tongues wagging over the weekend. Ep 641We Chat Lloyd Mullaney With Shipwrecked & Comatose Podcast
For this special episode, we team up with Mark from the Shipwrecked & Comatose podcast to chat all things Lloyd Mullaney, who of course was played by Red Dwarf star Craig Charles. With Mark never having watched an episode of Corrie before save for a handful of famous Lloyd clips, it was a lot of fun chatting about the character and how he was similar to - and different from - Dave Lister. Our discussion also covers some of Lloyd's biggest moments, the issues raised by stories such as Paul Kershaw's racist remarks, and what Mark found most surprising about his first experience watching our favourite soap. If you're a fan of Red Dwarf, you can listen to Shipwrecked & Comatose at the link below: https://pod.link/1514570118
Ep 640Conversation Street Episode 640
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about what went on in Weatherfield between the 5th and the 9th August (Episodes #11,329 - 11,334). It'd been a long time coming, but this week, Alina popped back to Weatherfield to give evidence against her traffickers in court - and to the surprise of absolutely nobody watching, she didn't come alone...! And if this revelation isn't enough to rock the foundations of No. 9 on its own, Hope causes a bit of a furore this week too after coming back from the medical centre with a box of condoms - if only Tyrone and Joel had taken the same precautions, eh? Also this week, Sean's fuming to find Mason working at Speed Daal, Beth gets caught with her counterfeit goods and Amy's back from the retreat - but has she been brainwashed enough to hand over her inheritance to the Institute? In the Kabin segment of the podcast, we take a look at the newly released synopsis of Maggie Sullivan's next Coronation Street novel, and we finish off the show with more of your feedback! Ep 640Dr Gaddas: A Decade of Badassery
This week marks ten years since Dr Gaddas first graced the cobbles of Weatherfield with her fabulous presence, and to mark the occasion, we chat about the impact she's had over the decade. Why is she such a fan favourite despite making only a handful of appearances each year? Would we like to see her become a regular in the vein of DS Swain? And which Corrie characters have got Gaddas to thank for still being in the land of the living? All this, plus a look at some of the other projects that actress Christine Mackie has got up to over the years - and she's certainly been keeping herself busy! If, like us, you're a fan of the good doctor, this episode is for you!
Ep 639Conversation Street Episode 639
On our latest episode of the podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown between the 29th July and the 2nd August (Episodes #11,323 - 11,327). Not gonna lie, this was definitely a bit of a 'meh' week for us this week, despite some clearly dramatic things going down on the cobbles. From Lauren's early labour to the whodunnit surrounding the fire at Stefan's office, it was all very exciting on paper... but yeah, we just weren't really feeling it. Did that stop us having a right old laugh discussing everything that was going on, though? Of course not! And we DID get to see more of the marvellous Debbie Webster, plus we were definitely satisfied with the ongoing developments in Paul's story too! And will Alina be popping back onto the Street soon... maybe with a tiny Tyrone in tow..? Guess we'll just have to wait and see! Very little in the way of news again this week, so we give the Kabin a miss again, but we did of course get a bundle of feedback about last week's fantastic Paul and Billy special, so we round off the episode reading out some of your thoughts. Street Talk - 00:13:49 Feedback - 02:34:59
Ep 639Corrieliminator Round 4
We're back for the fourth round of Corrieliminator, the game where we pit 30 randomly selected Coronation Street characters against each other and rank them, with only the top three making it through to the final round. This month, we've got some pretty big names like Hilda Ogden and Bet Lynch going head to head, and it's battle of the battleaxes as Ena Sharples, Evelyn Plummer and Ivy Tilsely are all thrown into the mix! Make sure you have your say in the listener vote this round by heading over to https://forms.gle/BdrmeRoekKwFvFTn6 and picking your top three characters! Also available as a video, where you can track which characters we're ranking where, at https://youtu.be/P2wuRRKC6Fs .
Ep 638Conversation Street Episode 638
On our latest podcast, we chat about the episodes of Corrie shown in the UK between the 22nd and the 26th July (Episodes #11,317 - 11,322). This week on Coronation Street saw another special episode dedicated to Paul and Billy's storyline, and what an episode it was! Masterful performances from the two leads, and a heartbreaking script that had us on the edge of our seats as that clock ticked towards midnight... and just to keep you guys in suspense (and also to facilitate an earlier recording session for us, to be honest!), we actually left this story until last to discuss this week. Still plenty to digest from the other stories as well though, including Toyah's devastating diagnosis, Stu taking pity on Mason and Kevin and Abi's hilarious evening out at the hotel to try out Debbie's new tasting menu! And speaking of which, wasn't Debbie fantastic on Wednesday's episode? Much more of this, Corrie, please! Not a whole lot in the way of Corrie news this week, and with the podcast already running long, we decided to give The Kabin a miss - but of course, after the feedback section, there's still time to sneak in a little Kabin Extra to chat about a bit of spoilers news that hit Corrie's socials this week... Ep 638Tramspotting
As well as going to the red carpet for the Radio Times Soap Awards, we also got the time to spend some of our recent trip to Manchester doing another handful of Corrie related activities! From staying in the hotel that once welcomed the likes of Stephen Reid, Mike Baldwin and Tracy Barlow to visiting the shop where Gemma Winter-Brown nicked a pair of shoes from, we visit some more Corrie filming locations, and even track down the elusive Coronation Street tram!
