Most people don’t pay that much in federal income taxes, thanks to two generations of tax cuts. They are paying exponentially more on the cost of living thanks to the deficit spending, which will be exacerbated by more tax cuts. Democrats already agreed to extend most of the tax cuts, and in order to get the final rates at the top, we are going to have to offer them garbage provisions that aren’t worth the squeeze. The focus needs to shift to spending cuts and downsizing of government. A former Marine, Hill served as the National Security Intelligence supervisor for the Boston office of the NSA and has a lot of important insights on the drone situation. Hill believes that the most likely scenario is that our military contractors are ops-testing our own security vulnerabilities in the era of drone warfare. In that case, the drones would thankfully be innocuous, but he believes the problem is that we just can’t trust our government. Hill reminds us that to this day, we don’t know why our government would purposely allow China to surveil us with balloons two years ago, and there are no innocent explanations. As part of that trust issue, Hill also explains that there is a pattern of behavior where our government allows adversaries to get away with harmful activity. I begin today’s show by warning how Republicans are not showing an appetite for spending cuts both in budget reconciliation and the emergency disaster spending bill. The biggest cost to our budget and life, of course, is the broken healthcare system. I’m joined by family physician and medical school professor Dr. John Littell, one of the heroes of COVID, for a deep dive into the lack of trust between doctors and patients. Dr. Littell warns that alongside a lot of bad medical practice are still lifesaving protocols, and patients need to find doctors they can trust to sort out the good from the bad. For example, he believes that things like vaccines, Pap smears, and statins are being driven by medical industry politics, but on the other hand, colonoscopies are lifesaving. He recommends that the new HHS leadership change the incentive formulas in Medicare that incentivize hospital treatment over outpatient and discourage traditional family medicine practice.
