Ep 263EP 214: Ron Keel Interview
The Metal Cowboy Ron Keel is back baby! This time to discuss the Ron Keel Bands latest release South X South Dakota. From the word go Ron is off discussing his thoughts on Covid-19, being a proud upper Midwest prepper, the struggle privately owned music venues face, whether or not the Eagles should be considered Southern Rock, his duet with Jasmine Cain, the ill-fated Australian Melodic Rock Fest, his move to High Volume Music, the 35th Anniversary of the Keel record The Right To Rock. And believe it or not, MORE! Available now at http://ronkeelshop.com & https://www.highvolmusic.com/store/ Ron Keel Band has released their new album SOUTH X SOUTH DAKOTA, a celebration of southern rock classics featuring the music of Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Outlaws, Blackfoot, Molly Hatchet, .38 Special, Creedence and more, on the HighVolMusic label. During recording sessions for their 2019 original album release FIGHT LIKE A BAND, the band warmed up each day by ripping through some of their favorite southern rock classics; what started as a fun way to loosen up in the studio has now become a powerful musical statement. “At first, we didn’t even know Mike (producer Mike Dresch) was recording,” Ron says. “We were just having fun. But of course, Mike records everything we do, and when I started listening back I realized that we had something special on our hands. “South X South Dakota is a really cool way to pay tribute to those southern rock heroes that provided such a big part of the soundtrack of our lives, while introducing a new generation of fans to these timeless songs.” The album’s first single and video is “Red White & Blue,” originally recorded by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Dealing with the “social distancing” required during the global 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, the band members were each filmed at separate iconic locations including Mt. Rushmore. Another featured track is “Don’t Misunderstand Me,” a hard rocking duet which pairs the Metal Cowboy with the powerhouse vocalist Jasmine Cain (2016 Nashville Music Awards “Artist Of The Year”). RKB’s cover of the Outlaws classic “Ghost Riders In The Sky” (produced by Henry Paul) was the debut single and video when they were known as the “Badlands House Band,” and “Homesick” (originally recorded by Atlanta Rhythm Section) was their 2017 summer single. Both of those recordings are included in the new SxSD collection. “For 10 years during the 80’s, Hollywood was home,” Keel reflects. “But I was born in Georgia as the son of a construction worker, and Nashville’s where I got my start as a recording artist. My fans as well as my critics all know that I have one foot on either side of the tracks; there’s a common thread here that ties it all together – toughness and twang as Metal and Country collide on sacred southern ground.” Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 259Interview EP: Jon Levin - Dokken
We are pleased to welcome Dokken guitarist Jon Levin to the Program. Jon is launching his new website jonlevinguitars.com, a subscription guitar tutorial site for players of all levels. They also get into his career with Dokken, Doro and even some gear talk. Guitarist Jon Levin, best known as the longtime (and current) guitarist of the 80s platinum selling heavy metal band Dokken, proudly announces a brand new venture teaching guitarist of all skill levels how to play like a professional. Jon Levin Guitars (www.jonlevinguitars.com) will feature hundreds of videos designed to teach players from beginners to the most seasoned players how to develop their chops, hone their skills, and hopefully attain their dreams as a guitar player on the largest stages around the world. “My professional career began in 1988, when I auditioned for, and got the gig playing with Doro Pesch and “Warlock,” Levin recalled recently. “In 1998, I did my first show with Dokken at the Dallas Starplex and officially joined the band in 2003. Over the past number of years, I would frequently give instructional lessons either via Skype or in the hotel conference rooms before gigs. I always wanted to do it on a grander scale, though I never really came up with a way of doing that until now. Through the years, people would always ask me “why don’t you do a guitar project?” I was sitting on my couch playing guitar for my brother-in-law around Christmas time. He said this is great, why don’t you do this for everyone? So initially, I thought I would just record myself doing some riffs on the couch and put them out for people to view and learn. That then turned into an idea for a website that would be an instructional guitar tutorial for any category of player where I would put riffs up at regular speed, slow speed, and with commentary, in addition to solos I’ve done with Dokken throughout my career. It grew from there, and I decided to then add a gear review section, practice exercises, and overall instructional commentary.” With a few months of recording, development and tweaking, the new site was finally ready to be launched. “The site is www.jonlevinguitars.com and is going to launch with over 100 videos,” Levin states. “I will be adding to it every month that will be focused on a hands-on approach to making the user a better player at any level.” Jon Levin Guitars is a subscription based service, costing $9.99 for a monthly subscription or $99.00 per year. Each month, new riffs and content will be created and posted for players of all skill levels. For more information, please visit www.jonlevinguitars.com. Enjoy! #Cobra2020 http://www.donjamieson.com/ On February 21st, rock & roll comedian Don Jamieson will release his new album, Denim & Laughter, via Metal Blade Records. Former 'That Metal Show' host Jamieson comments: "This album was recorded in front of about 40 hardcore fans in a speakeasy in a secret location in Los Angeles on October 19, 2019. Now the rest of you can enjoy it! I've recorded my stand-up albums in comedy clubs, rock clubs and now an illegal club. Comedy is way more fun when you're at the risk of being raided at any moment! Special thanks to one of my favorite all-time bands, Saxon, for letting me do the comedic version of their classic album 'Denim & Leather'. And I can't wait to tour the U.K. and Europe with their singer, Biff Byford. They follow in a prestigious line of my album cover band parodies…Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin. But of course, the album is not just for rockers, but for all people who like humor with a rock and roll attitude. Comedy is like rock and roll…it's no fun if it's not dangerous. And being a comedian on Metal Blade Records makes the whole package complete." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ep 237Interview With Chad Nicefield From Wilson
Wilson lead singer Chad Nicefield returns to the show to talk about Wilson calling it day. They catch up on all sorts of stuff that has happened since the 2018 release of their album Tasty Nasty leading up to what will be their final show Dec. 28 at the Crofoot complex in Pontiac. All sorts of Fuckery. http://houseoffuckery.com/ After almost a decade long of global fuckery, Wilson has done the opposite of what every other band seems to do—they stopped taking shit so seriously! In the process of their, “personal awakening” they forged a new path for themselves and their sound by combining their brand of in-your-face rock n roll with the influence of Hip-Hop and all things 90s. Tasty Nasty is fresh, exciting, and most importantly fun! And it all started with a hit of acid. Wilson's vocalist, Chad Nicefield, took a trip to Asia with his friends to pursue happiness. Once he experimented with acid he had a revelation about his life and his outlook on the band’s music changed everything. “I just kind of realized who we are as people and our DNA was that of a bunch of lovable, silly dudes, that love to make music," says Nicefield. "The world needs to know that about us. That needs to be in transparent our music.” Now with no worries or inhibitions holding them back, the guys in Wilson embark on a journey through nostalgia and endearing nonsense on eleven brand new tracks. The opening track, “Dumptruck” is a sonic punch to the face as it kicks in with gang vocals chanting, “This shit bumps, this shit fucks, this shit dumps like a dump truck.” Followed by roaring guitar riffs and a chorus that really does “fuck”, the opener is a perfect dose to set your mind up for the next 35 some-odd-minutes. “Wrong Side of History” follows a Bizkit-ish path, leading you straight into the fever. From that moment on you’re on their ride. With hints of the decade that shaped their musical tastes, combined with slick production and big singalong choruses, Tasty Nasty is equal parts self-deprecating and hilarious. This acid is one hell of a drug, as the fever dream truly kicks in, songs such as “Like A Baller” “My Hustle” and “Summertime Treat” are there to prove it! It’s not until track ten do you get a throwback to the old, heavier side of Wilson with, “House of Fuckery.” But that’s not what this record is about. It’s about looking ahead, not staring in the rearview mirror. And that, my friends, is Tasty Nasty. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Ice-T started a new genre as the OG of gangsta rap, collaborated with Slayer and Motörhead, on the lineup of the first Lolapalooza (91), starred in the ridiculous Breakin’ 2 Electric Boogaloo and the ambitious New Jack City, and gone from fighting Tipper Gore/PMRC, and vilified by George Bush with the controversial track “Cop Killer” to as mainstream as being on a Geico commercial and Law & Order SVU for two decades. Love him or hate him, join two middle class Caucasians (LC & Joey Haynie) as we cover a truly unique and fascinating American success story. Note. This Ep has more references to Journey and Color Me Badd then one would expect. $10 Cobras & Fire T-Shirt - FREE SHIPPING COBRA STORE: https://cobrasandfire.com/product/rocknpod-expo-bots/ Learn more about your ad choices. RACHEL BOLAN Rachel Bolan is the co-founder and songwriter for the band SKID ROW. Rachel realized that he wanted to be a performer at a very young age when he went to see Liberace with his parents and Grandmother. "I was only 5 years old, but was taken aback by the energy that filled the venue" Rachel said. It was after that moment he began listening to all the records that his brother and sisters owned. The first record he purchased was The Rolling Stones – Sticky Fingers. It changed his life. After that he was turned on to the likes of Alice Cooper, Kiss, Sex Pistols and Ramones to name a few. His first gig was in 1978 at Manasquan high school in Manasquan, NJ. In 1986 Rachel met Snake and the rest is history. Outside of Skid Row, Rachel produces other bands and writes songs for other artists, sports teams and with Snake writes music for ESPN.
