If we asked you guys what your "Dream Job" would be, we're guessing a lot of you would have the same answer... "Disney Imagineer." Unfortunately, only a select few get to have that title. So, it's understandable when some of the more famous names become the "rock stars" of the Disney and Theme Park Fan Communities. On this week's show, we pay tribute to Tony Baxter, a long-time Disney Imagineer who recently announced his retirement. Tony is responsible for many Disney Attractions that have become household names. We'll discuss his career and what it means to be an Imagineer in 2013 versus 1955. Plus, we'll hear from listeners about their favorite Tony Baxter rides. There's big news this week out of Northern California this week and we have the first interviews about it. California's Great America announced that their new roller coaster "Gold Striker" will now include the world’s longest covered initial descent tunnel on a wooden coaster. Adding intrigue to the record setting feature, Gold Striker’s 174-foot tunnel will be enclosed by wood on both sides, corrugated metal on top and in-fill underneath the tracks, to replicate a true "gold mine" feel. We'll talk with Tyler Currie, Director of Park Operations for California's Great America about the new ride and their big announcement. We'll also discuss some rumors coming out of Walt Disney World in Orlando. Word is leaking out about a possible re-imagining of the entire Downtown Disney complex.... complete with a new name, layout and a five-level parking garage. Interesting stuff... but maybe Mike and EB have a better idea of what can be done with the area. Week after week, we get a lot of interesting feedback from you guys. One listener will write in and say that we need to focus on the regional parks more and less on what's happening at Disney. Earlier this year, we were amazed when we got to see "World of Color" at Disney California Adventure. It was absolutely amazing what the Imagineers could do with water, light and music. "Backyard Imagineers" can do something similar around the winter holidays. They take thousands of lights and animate them to music using computer technology! It's like having a mini World of Color in your front yard! This week, EB and Mike take a look at some of the best home lighting displays for 2012! Happy Holidays!

One of the great things about being a fan of theme parks is getting to know the creative stories and legends behind each attraction. With all due respect to other theme park companies, no one does this better than Disney. The story and immersive atmosphere of the "Haunted Mansion" attractions captivate guests around the world. Recently, a group of filmmakers, special effects artists, composers and actors from Hollywood, California created an amazing short film that brings the lore of the "Haunted Mansion" to life. On this week's show, we interview Jeremiah Daws and Lisa Livesay from the new short film "Missing in the Mansion." We've all been at the park and seen a parent or other adult forcing a kid onto a roller coaster or other intense thrill ride. Maybe the kid is just a bit scared... but other times the kid is shrieking in sheer terror. On this week's show, we ask the Coaster Radio audience... What Would You Do? Would you get involved? Would you stay away? Would you watch as if it were bonus entertainment that you didn't have to pay for? We share a ton of listener stories about real-life events and how they reacted to what they saw. We even hear from a few parents who admit to being the ones who force their kids on the rides. Sometimes there are big stories in the amusement industry... Maybe a new roller coaster is announced or a new park is being built somewhere. But sometimes there are stories that come along that entirely change the landscape of the entertainment industry. One of those stories happened this week. The Walt Disney Company announced that it would be purchasing Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion. This includes all of the Star Wars Properties, technical companies such as Industrial Light and Magic, LucasArts, plus anything else that George Lucas created over the last four decades. Disney also announced that fans can look forward to Star Wars: Episodes 7, 8 and 9, with the next installment due in 2015. (Nerds rejoice!!!) But what does this all mean for the Disney Theme Parks? Are we going to see new attractions and themed areas based on the hundreds of characters and locations in the Star Wars Universe? Could we see more rides based on the Adventures of Indiana Jones? Or, might be actually see an entire park based on all that George Lucas and his team created? The possibilities (and the conjecture) are unlimited!!!

All Hallows Eve is almost upon us.... This week, we have the perfect show to get you in the "spirit" of Halloween. Mike and EB start this week's show with a bit of talk about whether or not Walt Disney World and Disneyland should consider an "adult-oriented" Halloween event at their parks. Universal Studios has pretty much cornered the market in Orlando and Southern California... but could Disney come up with something even better? After that, Mike reveals that he has spent $199.99 on a "Seance School" and wants to attempt contacting one of his heroes who has passed on to the afterlife. Will he be successful? And who is the spirit that he wants to contact? Finally, after a Live Trip Report from Busch Gardens Tampa, the guys sit around the fire pit with their marshmellows and S'Mores to begin the 2012 Halloween Campfire show. This is an annual tradition where the guys take actual back-stories from Halloween Haunts across the country and bring them to life on-the-air. Here at the Original Theme Park Podcast, we love Halloween. We also love good horror movies from the 80's. So, imagine if someone made a throwback horror film that was set in an old, closed down amusement park... Yeah, they'd have our attention. On this week's all new episode, we talk with Cary Hill. He's the writer and director of a brand new 80's-style horror film - Scream Park. The entire film was shot on location at Conneaut Lake Park in Pennsylvania. Several of the key scenes were shot on and around classic attractions like the Blue Streak and the Devil's Den. We'll talk with Cary about what it was like to shoot his film in the park and how the rides and attractions influenced the story. We'll also talk about how Hersheypark's Thigh Crush... er, Sky Rush has closed for the season a little earlier than expected. Of course, the Coaster Boys out there have their own ideas on why this happened. But Mike and EB give their own unique take on the matter. It's fun to visit theme parks any time of the year, but there's something a bit more special about visting them around Halloween. We love Halloween here at the Original Theme Park Podcast! We love it so much, that this is the first of three shows dedicated to the spookiest time of year. This week's show starts out with a bit of a shocker! He also had a chance to talk with Scott Gasparich, the Vice President of Entertainment for the park about what it takes to put on a massive Halloween Haunt like Howl-O-Scream. Any new listeners to our show might only know it has being hosted by Mike and EB. But back in 2005, the show was hosted by the five guys you see on the right. When the new version of CoasterRadio.com came out in 2009, Mario Flava and Greg had all moved on to other things. But as a listener said this week, they will always be a part of the show. But over the past year, many listeners (new and old) have been asking for the guys to come back for at least one episode. What makes a roller coaster legendary? There are probably a lot of good answers to that question. But when a roller coaster is dismantled before it has a chance to grow old, odds are is going to be talked about and remembered for a long time. On this week's show, we talk about Kings Island's Son of Beast... a ride that is scheduled to be dismantled to make way for something new. The ride was groundbreaking, but troubled. However, over the next few years will it become legendary? Will people remember it for being a better coaster than it actually was? There are only a few attractions in the world that a true thrill ride aficionado would think twice about riding. One may have just opened in Southern California. Six Flags Magic Mountain just unveiled the world's tallest drop tower ride... Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom. Maxing out at 400 feet with a top speed of 85 mph, this new ride has been making enthusiasts wonder if they have what it takes to ride. On this week's episode, Mike and EB break down the new ride. They even produced a video podcast where they provide "DVD-Style" commentary as they watch on-board video of the ride! Mike also gives us a Trip Report from his recent visit to Michigan's Adventure. It was Mike's first trip to the park, so he talks about his over all impressions and reviews of each of the park's roller coasters. One of them actually cracked his Top 10 list! We're back with a jam-packed, all-new episode of The Original Theme Park Podcast! This week, we talk about Six Flags Discovery Kingdom's new roller coaster "Superman: Ultimate Flight!" It may last less than 60-seconds, but what it lacks in ride time it makes up for by being unique. The new ride includes multi-directional launches, several non-inverting loops and a barrel-roll at 150 feet in the air! (That's one of the tallest inversions in the world!) Among the many topics n this week's show, is the new roller coaster at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Northern California... Superman: Ultimate Flight. This is really one of the strangest and most interesting looking roller coasters that we've seen in the last decade. As a bonus to this week's episode, Mike and EB watch video of the new coaster and comment on everything including the layout, restraints, theming and even the people the park chose to ride it on-camera! On this week's show, Mike heads to Williamsburg, Virginia to take on Busch Gardens' newest roller coaster - Verbolten! Verbolten isn't your typical roller coaster. It's an immersive thematic attraction that sends passengers twisting and turning through the forbidden Black Forest. There are a ton of great surprises and some of the most detailed theming Busch Gardens has ever done. Throughout the show, Mike will describe the entire new attraction area as well as the ride itself. He'll interview Larry Giles, Busch Gardens' Vice President for Design and Engineering. As fun as it was to visit Disneyland and Disney California Adventure a few weeks ago, it wasn't the main reason for our trip to the west coast. Neil Patrick Harris invited us to come out to Hollywood to be extras in an upcoming episode of the hit CBS sit-com, "How I Met Your Mother." On this week's (very long) episode, we tell you the ENTIRE story. We talk about what we saw, our interactions with the cast and crew and what it was like to be a "background extra" in MacLaren's Pub.

We've spent the past two shows going over every details of our California Trip that included visits to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. But even with two whole hours devoted to both parks, there were things we missed. AND... the CoasterRadio.com audience was quick to remind us of the things we forgot to talk about.
