Coaster Radio: The Original Theme Park Podcast

Halloween is just a few weeks away and we start things up with a bit of a controversy. Knott's Berry Farm has closed a temporary Halloween attraction due to pressure from mental health advocates. Was it a smart move or were they wrong to bow to political correctness? We also talk about the new HBO series "Westworld," a show set in a futuristic theme park where anything goes. Is there a chance we could see a real-life version of this someday? And did you hear that someone's e-cigarette exploded into a fireball aboard the Hogwarts Express at Universal Orlando? We're not so sure the explosion was caused by a guest. We'll also have two Live Trip Reports from Halloween Horror Nights and find out if their R.I.P. (VIP) tours are worth the expense. Then, it's time to enter the courtroom of "Judge EB" as two listeners argue the case of "Fury 325 vs. Millennium Force!" Finally, we review a story about a doctor who found that taking a ride on a roller coaster could cure a person of kidney stones. Heck, we'll even do an experiment live on-the-air to see if it's true. Then, we'll interview Phil Raybourn, Senior Manager of Consumer Event Production at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Phil is in charge of Howl-O-Scream, so we'll talk with him all about it. We'll also find out about their new Escape Rooms and the new haunted house Circo Sinistro! CoasterRadio.com is back and ready for its 11th Season! We start off by taking a look at the winners of the 2016 Golden Ticket Awards. Each year,Amusement Today recognizes the best of amusement parks worldwide. Did they get it right? Or did they miss the mark? We celebrate the end of our 10th Season this week by turning the show over to you! We spend the entire show taking your live phone calls. It's an unscripted show where we talk with a variety of listeners about a variety of topics. The theme of this week's show is simple... we play Live Trip Reports sent in from listeners all over the world! It's a fun, rapid-fire show where we all get to hear the sounds of different parks and different rides while hearing honest reviews of what people have been experiencing at the parks in 2016.

There were two big announcements in the amusement industry this week and we talk about them both! First up, Cedar Point has announced that "Mean Streak" will "get the axe" later this fall. What does this mean and who is the "old coot" in the teaser video? We also talk about the Triple Tower at Hersheypark. CoasterBoys aren't very excited about this one... even going so far as to say they're more excited about the new Chick-fil-a Restaurant being installed in 2017. Why is this? We also have an interview with Adam House from Great Coasters International minutes after the announcement of "Mystic Timbers" at Kings Island. We'll talk with him about what it's like to design a roller coaster for your his home park Plus, Mr. Shapiro is back with ideas on how to "monetize" Pokemon Go and... the return of LIGHTNING RODNEY!

This week's show starts with Ohio Correspondents Kevin and Jonathan joining us live from the 2017 Attraction Announcement at Kings Island. We'll find out what they have in store and how it will fit into the park. We'll hear Live Trip Reports from Heritage Park in Canada and Busch Gardens Tampa. We'll also talk about how the "Tower of Terror" at Disney California Adventure is slated to be turned into "Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT!" What can we expect from the new attraction and will the Tower's biggest fans be upset? We'll also talk about how a popular park is doing away with Giant Turkey legs! That's like getting rid of funnel cakes! Finally, we'll hear from our listeners about what they consider to be the best and worst roller coasters designed by Bolliger & Mabillard.

This week's show starts off with discussion of the Pokemon Go craze and how it's invading theme parks across the country. Will the regional parks pick-up on this and create their own versions of this popular app and game? One park is already ahead of the curve. We'll hear reviews from listeners who have tried out the Virtual Reality Experience on roller coasters at Six Flags and Cedar Fair parks across the country. What works and what doesn't? Is this a fad or a phase? We also have a Live Trip Report from Canada's Wonderland and we'll listen to a French version of CoasterRadio.com that COMPLETELY rips us off!

It's never too early to start looking ahead to 2017! This week's "First Drop" focuses on possible new rides at Hersheypark, Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Kings Island. Will we see major thrills at these parks? We also unveil what happened at the 2016 Podcast Awards and invite the podcaster who beat us to come on CoasterRadio.com. Will he accept our kind invitation? Nick Hutson calls in from the UK to review "Derren Brown's Ghost Train" at Thorpe Park. Will the years of development and be worth the hype? Finally, EB will tell us all about his New England theme park trip. It included stops at Darien Lake, Palace Playland and Canobe Lake!

This week, the CoasterRadio.com 4th of July Tradition continues! It's the "Sparktacular Explosioloosa!" This is our version of the Disney and Universal fireworks shows with funny sounding names. This year, the fireworks come from EB's Backyard in Indiana and Mike's 4th of July party in DC!

This week, Mike and EB dedicate the show to newlyweds who got married inside of a theme park! And they actually took their vows before the big drop on a famous roller coaster! We'll talk with the couple and find out how they pulled off this event and what it was like to start their life together while experiencing their favorite shared hobby.

If you remember the old "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" show, it's just like that. Except, Mike and EB will be taking the place of Regis. There's lots of "behind-the-scenes" info this week as CoasterRadio.com listeners send in their "Ride Evacuation" stories. We've all seen rides break down. But every now and then, the breakdown is so bad that guests need to be removed from the rides. This usually results in people getting to see "backstage" areas of the park that are normally off-limits to park guests. So this week, we'll hear a ton of stories about what people saw when they were "EVACED" from a ride!

An all new season of "Bert the Conqueror" premieres on The Travel Channel this week. We're joined by the show's host, comedian Bert Kreischer (live from his daughter's softball game.) He'll tell us what we can expect to see in the new season and what rides absolutely terrified him. We'll also hear about a gruesome injury he suffered for the good of his TV audience. Our interactive question is all about what new ride could be coming to Knotts Berry Farm in 2017. The CoasterRadio.com audience has some great ideas for what would be a good fit at the park. The Incredible Hulk is about to ROAR back to life at Islands of Adventure. We'll talk about the new entrance, queue, storyline and sleek coaster trains. Shanghai Disneyland opens next month, but the park is in soft openings now. That means people are starting to take video of the rides, including Soarin' Over the World, Tron Light Cycle Power Run and the incredible new Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for Sunken Treasure. However, Mike isn't thrilled with the quality of the video. We have a Live Trip Report from Dorney Park and our Park Hopper segment about Enchanted Forest in Oregon! Mike is out of town this week, much like he was back in 2006 when he attended the Media Preview for Expedition Everest at Disney's Animal Kingdom. It's fascinating to hear him speak about the ride nine months before it's grand opening. He talks about the storyline, the ride system and yes... the infamous Yeti.
