“Send Coach John a message”We all have those moments in life - especially once we start driving - where things just don't go our way. A little accident that happened with my daughter driving got in the way of an enjoyable Friday night. First and most importantly, she was ok. No injuries to her, but the car - some severe damage to the front left side of the car. During our long wait for the tow truck to arrive, there were 3 different people that made a difference that night - and again, it wasn't the most earth-shattering incident, but it was still frustrating and costly to our family. The 3 difference makers that I met that night taught me some important lessons about how little things can make a big difference with others. This book that I am currently finishing up - "the Magic Strings of Frankie Presto" by Mitch Albom really got me thinking or re-connecting to the importance of music in my life. In fact, check out Mitch's website and under the books page you can find this and all of his other books too - see Mitchalbom.com Music helps us to connect to life emotionally and that is really what life is all about - emotions. I am really amazed when I catch myself remembering events in my life, as clear as day just because a certain song has come on the radio. Such power - what a difference maker music can be, no matter where in the world we are. Also with the sad passing of Aretha Franklin - the Queen of Soul - big time affect she had on so many people with her music. “Send Coach John a message”More lessons from our recent little get-away to Traverse City, Michigan. These lessons came from eating out and visiting a place that our family stayed at for years. Amazing clarity came to me about how fast time is going by - for me, you, all of us. Then our visit to the North Shore Inn - http://www.northshoreinn.net/ A place that we stayed at for about 18 years with our family and my in-laws too - fantastic visit there to watch another sunset and both my wife and I were treated to some emotional and fantastic memories of just being there again. “Send Coach John a message”It's always great to get away on a vacation to places we enjoy. My wife and I really enjoy going up North here in Michigan - the Traverse City area to be specific. They have so many wineries that we enjoy going to and many of them we are visiting for the first time. Three of them I mentioned today and the lessons that each of them brought. First was a young man named Benjamin at the Laurentide Winery - https://laurentidewinery.com/index.asp A young man that grew up in the area and stayed to work in an area that he is passionite about. He had great enthusiasm and did a great job with the customers that he was helping. He was a very personable young man. A very down to earth & personable former teacher that is now working on his second career. Fantastic converstation with Matt and many lessons learned from him too on looking ahead to new adventures. They were hosting some friends, two of which were playing some fantastic live music. A great visit with one of the best views you will ever see in your life. Most of them can be found just by watching & listening. The lessons from a gas station attendant - his name is Paul - and I have watched and listened to him for years, I've even talked to him a few times. He is such a nice guy and the way he treats others is amazing! Every time I get gas for our cars at our local Costco - I always hope he's working. “Send Coach John a message”With the 2018 Open Championship being played at Carnoustie in Scotland, it is bringing up an important history lessons that happened in 1999. Jan van de Velde from France was a big part of that memory / lesson with his epic collapse in the final round of this tournament. The lessons are so valuable. Summer time also is when there Wimbledon tennis - a fantastic & historical tournament with players in it from so many different countries. Just think - even if you don't like these sports or any sport for that matter - the lessons can still be used for all of life. “Send Coach John a message”Great weekend with a quick trip back to western New York with my parents and my son for a little family reunion. So many laughs, great stories, fantastic memories, and some great sights seen all tied into our family. I think it's so crucial for all of us to find some time - this summer or really any time... that we can spend it with family. Especially older family members that we need to talk with and listen to, along with learning from. Once those older family members are gone - so too are all the stories, lessons, memories, etc., unless we get them shared. I've heard it so many times - it is so crucial to always remember where you came from. Please understand that where you are today - a lot of it came from the sacrifices and choices made by those that came before you. “Send Coach John a message”Very interesting day – some good stuff that came my way today. First of all, I was listening to my buddy Sam Crowley’s podcast (Everydayissaturday.com) and he reminded me about “where focus goes, energy flows.” This is something that I needed to hear today. Lot’s of discussion in our family recently on things dealing with time and money. Normally I tend to lean towards the same negative and fearful responses I’ve always seem to have about these topics… but not today. This different mindset about having my focus looking towards new opportunities and the positive changes – it’s starting to make a difference. John O’Leary’s podcast (JohnOlearyinspires.com) brings up about simplifying life – in ALL areas of our lives, not just with our possessions. Right before I recorded this message I was watching the World Cup – Argentina beating Nigeria…. Great passion, tons of pressure and teamwork along with country pride. As my wife and I were walking our dog around the track at our local middle school - it dawned on me (once again) on how fast time is flying by. There has been this Time Management discussion that some say we can't "manage" time. But I think you can - If you take time in 15-minute breakdown segments - I think that we all have the power to choose what we do with that 15 minutes - or whatever time frame it is in. Time management is really all about Life Management. It's the one currency we all have. Look at today how you are managing your time -how you are managing your life. Always remember we can choose to do anything we want along with making any change we want to make if we are not happy with our Life Management choices.
