Litecast: Bears, Cubs, Nuggets, and ISU Football (We Guess)

Send us a text Matthias returns to the Litecast to discuss everything that went wrong against Louisiana on Saturday (a lot of special teams). But we also try to find some positives as well, and look ahead to what can be fixed before playing TCU next weekend. Jared Larson joins the show to talk the return of Big Ten football, and we try to figure out a scenario where a B1G champion doesn't make the Playoff. Since it's a Matthias episode, we had to get into the Bears' big comeback win against the Lions, and Austin unveils an all-time Mitch Trubisky take. We also break down the season debuts of David Montgomery and Allen Lazard. Jake Brend then joins us to talk about the incredible Nuggets comeback against the Clippers, and the crew talks expectations for the Cubs with the MLB playoffs right around the corner. Litecast: Talking Louisiana, Week 1 Betting, and Super Bowl Picks

Send us a text It's officially Week 1 and we've got a football game to get ready for! This week's Litecast tackles the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, and the crew is here to discuss which players we're looking forward to seeing (other than Brock Purdy of course) and which newcomers will make an impact. We also discuss preparing for a tailgate at home, which includes a proper roasting of Dylan's food takes. Matt Nelson comes in off the top rope to give his opening game takes and help us break down the weekend's most interesting betting lines. America's segment, the Brooklyn Nets Minute, returns as the Nets shocked the world by hiring Steve Nash as their head coach. That discussion naturally lead to talking about the latest from the NBA playoffs, and a head start on the Giannis speculation. Last but not least, the guys give their Super Bowl predictions with the NFL season starting this week as well. Football is back, and we can't wait to talk about it for the next few months. Thanks to Es Tas Bar & Grill for sponsoring!

Litecast: Fans at Jack Trice, Monte vs Georges, and a Bachelorette Preview

Send us a text The Litecast returns to open the month of September on a big note. We start by discussing the announcement of Iowa State hosting 25,000 fans at Jack Trice Stadium for the football opener and how that reflects on Jamie Pollard. Plus, we try and make sense of the argument that having fans in the stands is a bad idea. Also in Iowa State news was the surprise announcement of Tyler Harris being eligible this season. We haven’t thought about college basketball for awhile, so it was fun to talk about the roster and our expectations for 2021. In NBA news, the podcast had to sadly bid farewell to the Brooklyn Nets and Luka Doncic. But, we did get to go over our preferred landing spots for Tyrese Haliburton in the lottery (spoiler: not the Knicks). There may or may not have been a rant about LeBron, you’ll just have to listen to find out. And we tried to figure out who each member of the pod hates more: Monte Morris or Georges Niang? We wrapped this one up with a plea for the Bears to not sign Leonard Fournette, and a special preview of this fall’s season of The Bachelorette. Thanks to Es Tas for sponsoring as always!

S1 Ep 93DPNL: 2020 Offense Preview

Send us a text This week, Levi, Cole, and Marchie take a look at the 2020 Cyclone offense and what we expect to see out of a unit that finished 2019 as a top-20 offense, and looks to build on that with a few new players and an overhauled offensive line.

Litecast: We've Got The Power

Send us a text The Litecast returns after a derecho induced week off, and boy was there a lot to catch up on. Austin, Dylan, and verified journalist Jar_Lar are here to break down what exactly is going on with college football and the status of the Iowa State season. Spoiler alert: our hopes aren't high with the COVID outbreaks on multiple campuses. But we also got a chance to dump on the Big Ten for pulling the plug without ever developing a plan. We promise we didn't hear it from @SirYacht.With that out of the way, the guys also had to discuss the beginning of the NBA playoffs, the Bubble awards, and if Dame Lillard is the most "must watch" player in the league now. And since our resident historian was on, we had to talk about some Iowa State playoff history. Jared was happy to oblige. For our first podcast with a real journalist, hopefully we kept it professional. Thanks as always to Es Tas for sponsoring!

Send us a text Another ReCYcle is up for you guys! We hope that you are enjoying live sports coming back, but don't forget about the old times! In this episode, we had Melissa Triebwasser from our SB Nation sister site, Frogs O'War on to watch one of the biggest wins in Iowa State history. S1 Ep 92DPNL: On Conferences and Kicking

Send us a text After nearly a month away, Levi, Cole, and Marchie return to talk about the craziness of this past week, and review a timeline of the madness surrounding the Big Ten's decision to cancel the season, and the Big 12's decision to keep playing football. Did the Big 12 make the right call? Only time will tell. All of this is done as a lead-up to a rundown of Iowa State's new 2020 football schedule, which features a tough non-conference opponent and a front-loaded conference schedule. Does it help or hurt the Cyclones? Finally Cole's closes out the show by ranking is easiest and most difficult stadiums to kick on.

Litecast: Return of the Matt

Send us a text This week's Litecast went a little longer than usual but with good reason, as CyHusker himself Matt Nelson made his triumphant return to talk brand new fatherhood, lack of sleep, and his daughter's early impressions of special teams. Now that the Big 12 has officially adopted the "9+1" scheduling model for 2020, we talked a lot about our expectations for Iowa State football this fall. We also broke down which non-conference game is likely to stay on the schedule, and how Iowa State may stand to benefit from the shortened season. From there, we got to discuss the long-awaited return of the NBA and our early impressions of the bubble, and an honorary Brooklyn Nets Minute after the huge upset they pulled. We talk which teams have impressed, and which have left something to be desired, as well as what's going on with Luka Doncic and Zion's minutes restriction. The basketball talk naturally transitions to gambling, and the guys discuss the trends they are following with the NBA in full swing and baseball still happening at the moment. Thanks to Es Tas for sponsoring!

Litecast: Ball State, Baseball, and Betting

Send us a text It's a loaded week and after a flurry of personal life updates, and the Litecast crew is back. We open by breaking down Iowa State adding Ball State to the football schedule to replace a certain rivalry game. Plus the guys play some trivia to get to know our new opponent. Next, we discussed the first week of baseball season, including a "petty wars" style discussion of the Dodgers and Astros beef. The NBA bubble has been heating up with the Lou Williams revelation and we were happy to try and sort out what it all means. And with the return of live games comes the return of the Moneyline segment, as the guys talk about what they'll be betting on in the first couple days of games. Last week also gave us 2 professional team names to discuss, the Seattle Kraken and the Washington Football Team. Last but not least, this week's Tweet Checks get into the Cubs bullpen and arrogant Kansas State fans. Enjoy!

Ep 14Wide Right ReCYcle Ep. 14: 2014 Iowa Rewatch (Swole Netten Game)

E

Send us a text THE RECYCLE PODCAST IS BACK. This week, the fellas take a trip back to 2014 to watch the 0-2 Iowa State Cyclones take on Iowa at Kinnick Stadium. Being blunt, the game is very boring outside of the last play, but the guys find a way to make it fun. With the usual segments, they dig into a discussion about Kyle Kempt vs Sam B. Richardson and talk about how Richardson can throw a football 90 miles per hour. As you can expect with an Iowa episode, Ryan gets heated and rants about how easy of a schedule Iowa had while Jake shares an experience of getting yelled at by a Karen when he was 13. ALSO SEAN IS 6’7!!! Huge thanks to Es Tas Bar & Grill for sponsoring the Wide Right Natty Lite Podcast Network!

Litecast: Sports Are (Officially) Back

Send us a text After a concerning week about the future of Iowa State's football season, the Litecast is back to hopefully bring some more levity. Thankfully, the Big 12 gave us a preseason poll and all-conference team to talk about. The NBA continues to work towards its restart, which means we get to bring back our favorite segment, the Brooklyn Nets Minute. This week's topic: how much can Jamal Crawford realistically score? Also, the guys hand out the season's awards for Most & Least Valuable Player, plus Coach/Rookie/Defensive POY as well. MLB starts it's season this week and while Ryan & Dylan aren't necessarily baseball guys, Austin did his best to sell them on reasons to watch. Lastly, our Tweet Checks for the week cover Luka Garza, Bryson DeChambeau, old Jeopardy episodes, and more! Thanks as always to our great sponsor Es Tas Bar & Grill!

Litecast: Football Season Status Update

Send us a text We had a lot of news to get to this week, so the guys brought Matthias Schwartzkopf (@MatthiasWRNL) back to his old stomping grounds to talk about where we are with the 2020 Iowa State football season. Find out what we think the most likely outcome is for this fall. Also discussed, is Jamie Pollard's financial transparency smart or cynical? Which contingency outcome seems most likely? How do we feel about Iowa forfeiting this year's CyHawk game? And how do we get Ryan to care about college football? But that's not all. Since Matthias was with us, naturally Austin had to ask him about Nick Foles and the Bears. We also played Shark Tank for which NBA teams to watch as a casual fan for the restart. Plus, Dylan's Nets won't stop giving us headlines. Lastly, this week's Tweet Checks lead to the podcast taking an important stance on bad offensive lineman technique in viral drills. Thanks as always to Es Tas Bar & Grill for sponsoring!

Litecast: Interview with Pick Six Previews

Send us a text This week’s pod includes a great interview with Brett Ciancia, aka Pick Six Previews. His preseason college football book is out for 2020, and he was happy to share some thoughts on Iowa State. Brett’s advanced analytics tell you exactly what you needed to hear about last season, that the team was better than the final record indicated. Hear about his thoughts on Iowa State in 2020, the battle between Sam Ehlinger & Brock Purdy for top QB in the Big 12, and of course why Charlie Kolar was left off his preseason All-American teams. We did our best to prop up Brock Purdy’s Heisman campaign. Also, he forecasts us to be better than the TOE, especially with the TE group. Use promo code “Cyclones” at checkout for a discount on Brett’s book But before that, Litecast crew did a review of Dylan & Ryan’s investigative report on Matt Campbell’s (fake) offseason activities. Then, a discussion on recent NBA news, a Brooklyn Nets minute, and a breakdown of the current championship odds. Find out who Austin, Ryan, and Dylan like between the current favorites (Lakers, Bucks, Clippers). And if you’re so inclined, the guys give some thoughts on longshot championship contenders. Finally, in a crazy week online, the guys bust out some Tweet Checks, where we review the craziest takes of the week, including dunking on Iowa fans, Mitch Trubisky, and Ben Simmons’ jump shot. Send us a text The Litecast is back, and we’ve officially hit the month where professional team sports are expected to return. But first, Austin, Dylan, and Ryan talk about Blake Hinson transferring to Iowa State, and how we expect him to fit on the roster. After a quick update on the state of the basketball program, the guys moved their attention to the NBA. Dylan gives us a reason to care about the Brooklyn Nets (spoiler: it’s not great), and the guys break down JR Smith signing with the Lakers. They also do their best to predict the headlines that will come out of the Orlando bubble. Next, the Litecast takes their turn to celebrate SB Nation’s rivalry week by sharing personal stories about games against Iowa State’s chief rivals, especially from the Big Ten West and within the state. To be honest, it would be nice to play Nebraska again. Last but not least, with the 4th of July coming up, the guys talk about some of their favorite traditions for the holiday. Not surprisingly, Ryan & Dylan’s revolve around the NBA. Keep an eye on us in the coming weeks, as the return of sports are sure to bring great content. E

Send us a text The boys take a trip back to the Paul Rhoads era to watch one of the biggest wins of his tenure. Through the usual segments, there was a lot of great discussion about this team and the overall dysfunction of the Iowa State football program back then. The program has come a long way since 2012, they compared and contrasted the regimes of Rhoads and Matt Campbell. As always, we want to thank our incredible sponsor, Es Tas Bar & Grill.

CYHusker, Ryan, and Austin were joined by Matt, an avid sports fan from the land of the Cornhuskers, to help engage in some awesome conversations about Fred Hoiberg, the Husker fan mentality, and to share some insight on Nebraska’s place in the Big 10 vs its role in the Big 12. E

Send us a text The crew digs into their first football game of the rewatch series. Sean Dee and Ryan Stivers join Jake Brend with their own personal experiences and ties to this game. This game brings back the awful memories of one of the worst officiated games in recent memory. The missed targeting and pass interferences that lost Iowa State the game along with questionable coaching decisions by Matt Campbell and Jon Heacock in the last two minutes led to the loss.Of course, this sparks a discussion about the worst calls in Iowa State history, we promise to not be as depressing next week with our segments. Send us a text Oh boy do we have a treat for you, Cyclone and Big 12 super fan Fran Fraschilla joins the program to rewatch the 2014 Big 12 Championship victory over Baylor. This is not a normal episode in our ReCYcle series, but it’s better. We got to pick Fran’s brain from coaching to plays to his favorite moments. We cut back on the normal segments this week, but that’s made up for in some off-topic questions. Fran talks about his love for Ames, his questionable relationship with KU fans, Brent Musburger’s gambling stories and his relationship with all the players on this Iowa State team. As far as the game goes, Iowa State started 0-13 from the floor and didn’t score a field goal in the first eight minutes. Ep 5Wide Right ReCYcle Podcast Ep. 5: 2012 Kansas State Rewatch

E

Send us a text In the fifth week of the ReCycle podcast, Ryan, Sean, and Jake rewatched the 2012 road game against Kansas State, also known as the Scott Christopherson game. The game was competitive, back-and-forth, and fun but the guys focus mainly on the season with Royce White more than the game itself. With the usual segments, the guys also rank the current basketball jerseys, argue who the best shooter in school history is and how far this team could’ve gone if they didn’t run into Anthony Davis. It’s a fun look back to the very early Hoiberg era, give it a listen and eat some Es Tas tacos!
