Ep 18’Out of Many One People’ - An Indo-Caribbean cricket special
A special podcast where we look at the history of Indo-Caribbean representation in West Indies Cricket and the cultural/religious links to Indian culture. We have a roundtable discussion with an Indo-Guyanese, an Indian and an Afro-Caribbean in order to try and give the topic a perspective from every angle. Bharat Sundaresan (@beastieboy07) is the special guest and adds great insight even going as far as to suggest an eventual solution that may rest with one of the podcast hosts. Ep 16The future's bright the future's Joshua
Episode 15 comes hot on the heels of Episode 14 and our guest on this one is rising star Joshua Da Silva. The Trinidad & West Indian wicketkeeper batsman has been rewarded for a run-filled domestic year with a call up to the reserve squad for the England tour. We have been singing his praises on the Podcast for quite some time and it was a pleasure to speak to Josh, in between the warmup games, ahead of the first test. This is probably one of our best pods we've done, it's a genuine laugh a minute but also a serious insight into Joshua's rise to the cusp of West Indian selection. Trust us he is going to go far in the game. Please also subscribe to our Caribbean Cricket newsletter - https://caribbeancricket.substack.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 15The crazy world of franchise cricket
On the eve of the CPL draft we sat down with Jarrod Kimber (@ajarrodkimber) to talk T20 franchise cricket. This isn't a death by stats talk rather an irreverent look behind the scenes of running a CPL team. We look at why teams win, lose and everything in between. Want to know why St Lucia picked 5 openers in 2018 but still only made 69 all out then this is the pod for you. Make it your business to follow Jarrod, if you dont already do so, after listening to this pod. No one produces better cricket content than him. Ep 13The Unforgiven: Mercenaries or Missionaries?
Some things are indelible in West Indian cricket history and not all of it positive. Between 1982 and 1984, 20 West Indian cricketers broke the Gleneagles agreement and decided to tour apartheid South Africa. Author and Sports Writer Ashley Gray (@AshG66) took it upon himself to meet with as many of those cricketers as possible to unpick the real story behind each individual. Did they deserve the global condemnation they received that forced many to flee their homelands or into destitution? We dived deep into the history of the rebel tours with Ashley and looked at it from all angles. This episode is about more than just cricket this is a bit of a Caribbean history lesson also. You can buy your copy of Ashley's book on Amazon or Waterstones, but check if you local independent bookstore has it and support them first. Learn more about your ad choices. Ep 12The push for reselection - The Kieran Powell interview
Once heralded as the next great West Indian opening batsmen. Leeward Islands star turn Kieran Powell has had a topsy-turvy career in and out of the West Indies side. Fresh off a record breaking 2019 Super 50 tournament where he led the run charts and a second very productive stint playing for Tamil Union in Sri Lanka. Kieran was very disappointed to see his name missing not only from the ODI tour of Sri Lanka but the subsequent 30 man provisional squad announced for the upcoming tour of England. Caribbean Cricket Podcast sat with Kieran to discuss his career to date, his foray and flirtation with Major League baseball and his plans to once again don the maroon in order to make up for lost time. Ep 11At Home with Ramnaresh "Ronnie" Sarwan
When we started the Caribbean Cricket Podcast one of the aims was to be a trusted media platform for West Indies cricketers past and present. It's an honour that as we drop Episode 10 - West Indies and Guyana great Ramnaresh Sarwan was on hand to bless us with his presence. As 'luck' would have it Ronnie is also in the news as a result of a few choice words from Chris Gayle, an interesting outcome given Ronnie named Gayle as one of his top 3 cricketers hes played the game with. We broke down everything with Ronnie from his early career to his premature end and all that happened in between. He left West Indies cricket at the age of 33 with a Test and ODI average over 40+. We havent seen those kind of stats in WI cricket in a long time. Tell all your friends, share the link, grab a drink and sit back... Learn more about your ad choices.
