Ep 119Part 2 of 3: Farm To Table Pioneer Champions Sustainable Farming with Monarch Tractor - featuring Alice Waters, Founder of Chez Panisse

Join Corinna Bellizzi for press event coverage of Monarch Tractor's launch in early December 2022 at their Livermore, California facility. In today's coverage you are introduced to Alice Waters as we are invited to think about the source, quality, and flavor of the food that graces our plates and nourishes our bodies each day. Alice shares what it was like to dine in France in the 60s and how that impacted her food journey. She invites us to think about source, about locality, and to love farmers. You'll also learn about her recent work to bring farming to schoolchildren as we seek to inspire and educate young people around the globe. We also meet Robert Henson, President of the wine and spirits division at Constellation Brands - a world leader in the alcoholic beverage space. They now own the Mondavi winery brand, and therefore have history with the Mondavi family (more about that in part 3). The reason this story is so critical is simple. Early adopters and big advocates are central to the success of any new technology. Before we wrap up today's episode we hear from the CEO and co-founder of Monarch Tractor, Praveen Penmetsa. Praveen shares the story of farmers in India and the reality of farming today. A perspective that there's no future in farming is shared, with Monarch Tractor playing part in the resurrection of the faltering profits seen in the world of agriculture.Elaine Chukan Brown once again operates as the MC for the event. About Alice Waters: Alice Louise Waters is an American chef, restaurateur, and author. In 1971 she opened Chez Panisse, a Berkeley, California restaurant famous for its role in creating the farm-to-table movement and for pioneering California cuisine.Waters has authored the books Chez Panisse Cooking (with Paul Bertolli), The Art of Simple Food I and II, and 40 Years of Chez Panisse. Her memoir, Coming to my Senses: The Making of a Counterculture Cook was published in September 2017 and released in paperback in May 2018.Waters created the Chez Panisse Foundation in 1996, and the Edible Schoolyard program at the Martin Luther King Middle School in Berkeley. She is a national public policy advocate for universal access to healthy, organic foods. Her influence in the fields of organic foods and nutrition inspired Michelle Obama's White House organic vegetable garden program.Biography Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_Watershttps://www.chezpanisse.com/About Constellation Brands' Robert Henson, EVP and President of Wine + Spirits DivisionRobert Hanson is Constellation’s executive vice president and president Wine + Spirits Division, reporting to President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Newlands. Ep 116San Vicente Redwoods: A Proforestation Effort To Sustain Hope And Combat Climate Change with Sarah Newkirk - The Land Trust of Santa Cruz County, Sam Hodder - Save The Redwoods League, Walter Moore - Peninsula Open Space Trust and Sarah Barth, Sempervirons Fund

Filmed on-location in Santa Cruz, California at the San Vicente Redwoods in a press preview of the new trail system which will be open to the public on Saturday, 12/3/2022. Listen on your favorite platform, or watch on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/x1hEeOLLGnwNotable quotes kick off the episode: "We're talking about 8,800 acres right here in the Santa Cruz mountains. That is part of a 1.6 million acre redwood forest ecosystem going from Big Sur all the way up to the Oregon border, most of which is young recovering second and third growth forest. 95% of it is young recovering second growth forest, and in that latent forest ecosystem is a fire resilient landscape that we can restore together if we learn from the lessons of this project." -- Sam Hodder, CEO, Save The Redwoods League"What's unusual in this time is the intensity in the crown fires and these absolutely. Gigantic catastrophic wildfires that really destroy entire communities. And so the communities should hear about it and they should hear about the value of that work." -- Sarah Newkirk, Executive Director, The Land Trust of Santa Cruz CountyFor more information on the opening of this trail system this Saturday, 12/3/2022, visit the following website page: https://www.landtrustsantacruz.org/svr/Love the show? Ep 115Proforestation: From Its Definition by Dr. William Moomaw to The Opening of San Vicente Redwoods Forest Trail System In Santa Cruz, California

Oceans are getting warmer and more acidic because of all the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This is happening because of deforestation or coal-burning, and it's not helping the ecosystem regenerate at all. This creates a chain reaction where the ocean eliminates algae and fish. The climate problem will never be solved if people keep abusing the natural world. Join Corinna Bellizzi and Dr. William Moomaw as they talk about the long-lasting effects of climate change. Dr. Moomaw is an Emeritus Professor of International Environmental Policy and the Founding Director of the Center for International Environment and Resource Policy at The Fletcher School at Tufts University. He is also the co-author of the Cut Out the Middle Fish paper, which talks about using algae as a protein source. Discover what proforestation means and why people need to build on existing forests. Ep 112Towards Media Consciousness: Bridging The Divisive Gap & Celebrating Free Speech With Tony Brasunas, Author Of Red White And Blind

Supporting free speech is easy if the speech is something you agree with. But it’s often hard to not be hypocritical about it if the speech in question is something you disagree with. Renowned free speech advocate Tony Brasunas believes that to truly advocate free speech, we need to support it in principle. And that means giving space to ideas that we may not agree with, even those that we perceive can be harmful to society in some way, because the alternative is more insidious. Tony solidified his views on this issue following a personal experience of censorship in 2016. Since then, he has been an outspoken critic of media gatekeeping and censorship and a staunch advocate for free speech, alternative media, and media consciousness. In this conversation, Tony talks about the institutional impediments to constitutional free speech and shares some key points from his upcoming book, Red, White & Blind.About Guest:Tony Brasunas was censored by Huffington Post in 2016 for covering the Democratic Primary from the supposed “wrong perspective”. His writings have nevertheless been published online, in newspapers and magazines, and in both corporate and independent media. He has just completed his second book, Red, White & Blind which offers unique insights into how we can take our blinders off and open our minds. While this is an admirable effort, the merchandising items they produce are often left out of this discussion. Each product is also composed of tons of carbon molecules that are not accounted for. Seth Cysewski, Co-Founder and CEO of Coolperx, shares with Corinna Bellizzi how they address this issue through their climate cost index. He explains how they monitor embodied carbon within each product starting from its development and all the way to the end of its life. Seth emphasizes why corporations and consumers must monitor that goods are maximized and utilized well, not simply added to towering landfills to rot.Love the show? Ep 91DISMANTLE OPPRESSION: Break Down The Power Majority with Dr. Kimya Nuru Dennis, 365Diversity.com

This week we invite you on a journey of discovery as you are invited to open your mind, admit your imbedded biases, remain curious, and march forward to play your part in dismantling oppression, and breaking down the power majority so that minorities can thrive. You’ll meet Dr. Kimya Nuru Dennis who shares her story with conviction, with presence, and with passion. She has worked for a lifetime to move people from conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion into real work and real action.Throughout this conversation, Dr. Kimya course-corrects the conversation from time to time, pointing us away from ideas of being “good allies” to truly act. She may not be your typical diversity, equity, and inclusion trainer, but that’s exactly why we should all give her a listen.“Black people have done equity-based trainings, racial equity trainings for generations. So this is not a new thing based on a New York Times bestseller… So that’s what 365 diversity is as a foundation. I was told over the years that my work needs to actually be more than consulting work, because I need to challenge what people are being falsely conveyed as change making.”Dr. Kimya Nuru DennisIn honor of pride month, your host, Corinna Bellizzi, also shares some of her personal story. She may look like a cisgendered woman since she’s married to a man with two young children, but she is also bisexual, having frequently dated women before choosing her life partner. Some minorities can be invisible, and as we approach the monumental day of Juneteenth, and celebrate LGBTQIA+ pride the month of June, this episode touches on topics we all need to consider. It will get you thinking about your preoccupations and what you can be doing differently to push for change.About Our Guest: Dr. Kimya Nuru DennisDr. Kimya Nuru Dennis is a community advocate, sociologist and criminologist, educator, and researcher. NEW PODCAST: Introducing Nutrition Without Compromise, hosted by Corinna Bellizzi and presented by Orlo Nutrition

bonus

In the modern era, our nutrition systems are in crisis. Foods that once had high levels of minerals and vitamins have seen their levels plummet as a result of the compromised health of our soil and ecosystems. With these changes, our waistlines have expanded, as food is less nutrient-dense and therefore less filling. Entire communities are undernourished and overweight. This is a direct result of the figurative and literal food deserts we live in today. It's time for a new era, one that puts nutrition first, without compromise. At Nutrition Without Compromise we believe that great nutrition and bountiful health is a human right. We believe that you should never have to make a choice between your ethics, your morals, the food on your plate, and the environment that produces it in order to stay your healthiest and live your best life. If you want to join a movement that challenges the status quo, that asks you to think deeply and discover new solutions that you might never have thought possible, then this podcast and community is exactly where you belong.
