S1 Ep 133Saving Swifts: A Brick for the Birds - Hannah Bourne-Taylor - BS133

Swifts are among the most remarkable birds on Earth — they sleep on the wing, migrate thousands of miles, and return each year to nest in the same tiny holes in our buildings. But as we insulate, repoint, and renovate, those nesting sites are vanishing — and so are the birds. This week, Jeffrey speaks with Hannah Bourne-Taylor — author, activist, and the powerhouse behind the campaign to mandate “swift bricks” in all new UK homes. From raising wild birds in Ghana to walking naked through Westminster with painted feathers, Hannah’s journey is as bold as it is heartfelt.Full Show Notes: https://www.buildingsustainabilitypodcast.com/blog/saving-swifts-a-brick-for-the-birds---hannah-bourne-taylor---show-notes/Support the early day motion (MP action)Find your local MP Hosted on Acast. S1 Ep 129Earth, Time and Transformation - Becky Little - BS129

In this episode, we sit down with Becky Little, an artist, builder, and earth enthusiast, who shares her journey from traditional building to her deeply rooted, place-based art. S1 Ep 99Finding inspiration in Heritage traditions - Peter Kovacs - BS099

I'm talking with Peter Kovacs about his product design, tool making and taking inspiration from heritage techniques and materials.Peter's Philosophy - "Our tools allow us to create beautiful objects out of raw materials. These tools should serve us as reliable companions, an extension of our body. That was my aim when I made my axes. Perfect ergonomics, excellent quality steel and heat treatment. From the skill of the blacksmith, hand forging the heads, through my many years of experience with woodwork to the last stitches in the thick leather sheath, everything is an essential part of creating something that will outlast our generation. I want to create a tool which will be handed down to the next generation with a patina on the handle that can only be achieved through years of use”Episode linksSoulwood Creations - https://soulwoodcreations.com/Soulwood Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/soulwood_creationsMake your own axe with Peter - https://www.woodlandmakers.com/product-page/28th-29th-august-axe-hafting-and-sheath-making-with-peter-from-soulwoodHeritage craft red list - https://heritagecrafts.org.uk/redlist/Sussex Trugs - https://truggery.co.uk/James Wood - https://www.jameswoodblacksmith.co.uk/Nick Westermann - https://nicwestermann.co.uk/Chip Carving - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5u-nc41ygcLane 8 BMX Podcast If your looking for all things BMX racing you’ve found the right podcast. Lorna Singleton is a coppice worker, basket maker and green woodworker. Specialising in Spelk Basketry - About Lorna - "I am one of the UK’s last remaining ‘swillers’, a specialist in weaving baskets using coppiced oak. From a workshop tucked away in the Cumbrian woods I weave traditional baskets known as spelk baskets, or swills. I cut and prepare the wood by hand, seeing the whole process through from the tree to the finished product, coppicing the woodland to create a truly renewable resource and improving biodiversity. I’m one of the last people still practising this ancient skill and keeping this important knowledge alive."https://www.lornasingleton.co.uk/https://www.instagram.com/lornaweavesoakThis episode is part of a trio focusing on the technique of coppicing.
