Buckeyes are 'finally doing what Bama has been doing'
Ohio State made a bit of an under-the-radar move on Tuesday when they hired Matt Guerrieri as senior defensive advisor and analyst. And in our opinion, it was an excellent hiring. Guerrieri is leaving Duke where he was the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach, and Matt Baxendell joins Dave Biddle to discuss that, plus: * A lot of Buckeye players have decided to return for the 2022 season which is obviously good news. * How do things look at defensive tackle for Ohio State in 2022? * Will Jim Harbaugh stay at Michigan or leave for the Las Vegas Raiders? * Will Omari Abor definitely sign with Ohio State in exactly two weeks? All of that and more is coming your way on the Wednesday 5ish. Jones sets front five | Duane on staff upheaval | Legacy love?
You can definitely call it a large announcement. Offensive lineman Dawand Jones announced yesterday he will be returning to Ohio State. That means the expected starting offensive line is intact for the 2022 season. What does Duane Long think of Jones's decision and how the front five will come together. Can this group be the reason for the return of an elite rushing attack? We dive deep on that. Plus, what does Duane think of the staff overhaul and the offer to local legacy Will Smith, Jr. Spend 5ish with us this a.m., 'Nutters. The Dean answers your questions on Buckeye recruiting

(We apologize that we could not get to all of the questions, but we hit as many as we could.) A lot of ground is covered, including the ethics that come with being a recruiting reporter, the latest with Omari Abor, A.J. Harris, Christen Miller and others, whether OSU is looking for a tight end in the transfer portal and more. All of that and more is coming your way on the Monday 5ish. 'Ryan Day took a blowtorch to that side of the ball'
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is not messing around this offseason. The Buckeyes had the No. 52 total defense in the country in 2021, and Day has overhauled his coaching staff on that side of the ball. In fact, only defensive line coach Larry Johnson remains as a holdover on the defensive staff. Everyone else is out, including linebackers coach Al Washington and Kerry Coombs. Coming to Columbus are safeties coach Perry Eliano from Cincinnati and cornerbacks coach Tim Walton -- a former OSU corner -- from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle to discuss all of the Buckeyes' coaching moves and more on the Friday 5ish. Wiltfong on this morning's coaching hire | Indiana native Frye returns to Midwest
Ohio State added a coach this morning from nearby Cincinnati. Perry Eliano is the new safeties coach. What's Eliano's reputation? How is he on the recruiting trail? 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong knows Eliano well and has plenty to say about the addition. Wiltfong also breaks down the addition of Justin Frye - an Indiana native - and how he could help bring more talent to the WHAC. Also: * Will Omari Abor stick with his Ohio State commitment? * Is Christen Miller a legit option for the Buckeyes? Spend 5ish with us this a.m., 'Nutters! Schottenstein is starting a charitable NIL fund for Ohio State athletics and he announced on Saturday that Jones will be his right-hand man in the venture. Brian and Cardale join Dave Biddle to discuss what this means for the Buckeyes, how fans can get involved, further details on the NIL fund and much more. Frye on his way? | NIL gone wild
All signs are pointing toward Justin Frye taking over as Ohio State's new offensive line coach, replacing Greg Studrawa. What do we think about this pending hire? We like it. A lot. Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle to discuss the Frye development, plus: * Is Kerry Coombs next to leave the Buckeyes' staff? * How is future OSU quarterback Devin Brown looking at the All-American Bowl practices? * Speaking of the AA Bowl, will Hero Kanu select the Buckeyes during the game tomorrow? * Thoughts on safety Tanner McCallister following Jim Knowles to Ohio State. * And we finish the show with something called NIL gone wild. Buckeyes' Christmas gift | Knowing more about Knowles | Rose Bowl motivation
Ohio State is just five days away from playing Utah in the Rose Bowl and there is much to discuss on today's show as Dave Biddle flies solo. First and foremost, the Buckeyes received a very nice gift on Christmas Day when DeaMonte Trayanum announced he was transferring from Arizona State to OSU and will play linebacker for the Buckeyes. What can be expected of him? We discuss that, plus: * We've talked a lot about Jim Knowles, who will take over as Ohio State's defensive coordinator on Jan. 2. But let's talk about him even more because this appears to be a grand slam home run of a hire. * How motivated is OSU to play in the Rose Bowl and how confident should you be in the Buckeyes this Saturday? Cowboy up? | Hitting on '22
Has Ohio State identified its coach in the secondary for next season? Possibly. The Buckeyes are exploring all talent acquisitions avenues available and these days that means a lot more than just the recruiting trail. The transfer portal is a new way of life and Ohio State is learning to live with it like all programs have to. That means possible Oklahoma State Cowboys en route alongside new Buckeyes defensive coordinator Jim Knowles. It means Ohioans who left for college possibly returning home to finish. It means a whole new world. There's nobody better to offer navigation of this new scene than Bill Kurelic. The Dean of Ohio State Recruiting joins us to disperse quality info on portal permutations and how Ohio State plans cap the Class of 2022 recruiting cycle. Spend 5ish with us this a.m., 'Nutters! 'Biggest shift of college football in our lifetimes'
Much has changed in college football over the last year or so. Major changes that have completely shifted the landscape of the sport we live. Players being able to transfer one time without sitting out a season. Players being able to profit off their name, image and likeness, and boosters more than willing to help their favorite program reel in recruits using NIL money. While it is a good time to be a college football player, what about the sport itself? Is it as great as it always was? Even better? Worse? Too early to tell? What might the future hold? Matt Baxendell joins Dave Biddle for an in-depth discussion on this matter, plus we look ahead to Ohio State's Rose Bowl matchup against Utah and more. We are 12 days away from Ohio State's matchup against Utah in the Rose Bowl, and Steve Helwagen joins Dave Biddle on today's show to talk all about the game, plus: * Steve was midflight on his way to Las Vegas on Thursday when word came down that Ohio State's basketball game against Kentucky was canceled due to a COVID breakout within OSU's program. He tells that interesting story, meaning not everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. (Don't worry; it's G rated.) * How big a concern is this moving forward for not just college basketball, but perhaps the college football bowl season? * Which OSU football players are on the fence regarding whether to come back next season or turn pro? What about defensive end Zach Harrison, offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere and cornerback Sevyn Banks? Also, which players -- if any -- might sit out the Rose Bowl for the Buckeyes? What a 24-hour gauntlet that was. Ohio State emerged from the first day of the Early Signing Period with the nation's No. 4 overall class. It's a historic class for linebackers ... but is missing a certain cornerback. Where to from here because this class is not done. Also, Ryan Day met with the media yesterday afternoon to touch on the '22 class, Rose Bowl prep and other offseason tribulations. Oh yeah ... Urban Meyer got fired last night. The commitments came fast and furious at the WHAC this morning. Ohio State added a stellar class - officially. There is a tremendous amount of Ohio State football chatter to get into on today's show as Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle for his usual Friday visit. We start off talking about the transfer portal, specifically who the Buckeyes might lose and who they might bring in. There is a very good chance OSU lands multiple players via the portal on defense. Also on the docket: * Thoughts on the Buckeyes landing high 4-star quarterback recruit Devin Brown in the 2022 class. (Hint: JBook loves this development.) * But the No. 1 QB in the country is right here in Ohio: Drew Allar. Will Ohio State regret not landing him one day and losing him to Penn State? * Which direction will the Buckeyes turn to find their new defensive coordinator? * Who else is big Iowa fans Saturday night? Time to answer some tough questions for Buckeyes
* What is head coach Ryan Day going to do about the defense? Does he bring in a defensive coordinator from outside the program? He should. * Why do the Buckeyes resemble a Big 12 team instead of ... you know ... an Ohio State team? * How does OSU get manhandled on both sides of the ball in the trenches? * Was it a perfect storm for the Wolverines?
