Unity is not the prize we earn for good behavior. It is a gift Christ gives to people who keep trying to live as if they belong to someone else.
That’s what makes Paul’s question so sharp: “Has Christ been divided?”Because what Paul is really exposing is this: Christ has already made us one, and we keep trying to unmake it. We keep taking the body Christ has joined together and pulling it apart with our allegiances, ideologies, and egos.
