S1 Ep 91Episode 91: Malnati Magic & Bachelor Party Golf Tips
EIn a win for the little guys, journeyman Peter Malnati blistered the back nine at Innisbrook and tamed the "snake pit" coming in to win his first PGA Tour title since 2015. Cameron Young had a chance to notch his first tour victory, but a 3 putt bogey on 18 sealed his fate and helped Malnati earn the victory. We will dive into a few things about the tournament including the difficulty of the course and how Justin Thomas had maybe the worst putting round in PGA Tour history. Tim was on the road again this week as he was down in Osage Beach, Missouri for a bachelor party. He talks tips for how to properly handle and schedule golf around a bachelor party. S1 Ep 90Episode 90: Scottie Sizzles at Sawgrass & Who is the Best Putter on the Podcast?
EScottie again amazed us with his play this week, becoming the first player ever to go back-to-back at TPC Sawgrass and the Player's Championship. He also went back-to-back on tour following up his win last week at Bay Hill. We will discuss just how ridiculous his current run ranks and where he goes from here. After the podcast boys got out and played last week, it is time for a proper discussion about who the best putter on the podcast is. Mike has taken a lot of flack over the years about all the missed birdie putts, but after watching Jeff last week and knowing Tim's putting history, he is staking his claim as the best putter on the pod, the others may disagree. It is listener mailbag this week and we are taking questions on a variety of golf topics, and even maybe take a dip into some march madness picks. S1 Ep 89Episode 89: Scottie Scheffler Finds the Putter & Tim Finally Shoots Under Par
EMike and Tim both fire 70's on the weekend in an epic podcast battle, could they be the hottest players on the planet not named Scottie Scheffler? We are kidding of course, but will go into the round a bit as Tim shot his first ever under par round on a championship golf course. Scottie Scheffler made a few putting changes, including both a new Taylormade mallet putter and not marking his golf ball with a line and as he displayed at Bay Hill, when he is making putts, he is really hard to beat. He fired a Sunday 66 to run away with the Arnold Palmer Invitational. We will also talk about a few other tournament tidbits and try to figure out what is wrong with Rory McIroy. After watching Full Swing 2 on Netflix this week, we will give our honest reviews of season 2 and why Mike is even more upset at Zach Johnson for one of his Ryder Cup picks after watching. Anthony Kim brought some fireworks to LIV Golf this week and will be playing again in Macau this coming week on the Asian Tour. Is signing Anthony Kim the best thing LIV has done for interest yet? The PGA Tour's flagship event, the Player's Championship is this week from TPC Sawgrass. Scottie Scheffler will be the favorite without question, but Pete Dye's course doesn't favor any one kind of player, so it is always an exciting test of golf. Former podcast guest Tom Hoge broke the course record last year and looks to build off that in 2024. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

S1 Ep 88Episode 88: Anthony Kim Returns on LIV, PGA Tour Snooze Fest in Florida & How High Should You Tee Your Ball.

If you tuned in to watch in the middle of the night here in the the U.S., you saw what was to be expected, a very rusty AK. We will see in upcoming events what the future holds for Anthony Kim. Joaquin Niemann may be the hottest player on the planet currently as he got the win again. It was a big week for Niemann has also got invites to the Masters and PGA Championship this week. The PGA Tour kicked off the Florida swing with the Cognizant Classic at PGA National. With the course playing easier than normal, there were some low scores this year on what is typically a tough track. Austin Eckroat was able to handle the Bear Trap down the stretch during the Monday finish to get his first career tour victory. What some would call the first major of the year was Monday also as the Seminole Pro-Member event took place. We will discuss one of the most guarded events in golf as PGA Tour pros team up with business leaders and other professionals in this almost mythical event. How high schould you tee up your ball? We look into some research that was done and discuss how high players of all ability levels should tee up the golf ball for optimal distance and accuracy. Tim headed to the Caribbean and played Teeth of the Dog in the Dominican Republic. Both will talk about their experiences. Meanwhile, Mike went nowhere, but poses a important Pete Dye question... what is his fascination with 17th hole par 3's and "Cape" holes. For instance, the finish at TPC Sawgrass and PGA West are basically identical. Is this lazy architecture by a legend in Pete Dye? Jake Knapp displayed awesome power in Mexico en route to winning his first PGA Tour event. Are big things in store for him this year? Anthony Kim makes his professional golf return this week as LIV heads to Jeddah. What are our expectations for him? What happens if he plays poorly? Or great? S1 Ep 86Episode 86: Hideki Rolls at Riviera
EHideki Matsuyama shot a Sunday 62 at Riviera Country Club to take the Genesis Open title against a star studded field in Los Angeles. Matsuyama had struggled for much of the last year, but found something on Sunday when he blitzed a field that averaged around 70 for the day. Tiger Woods fell ill and had to WD and Jordan Spieth was DQ'd for signing for the wrong score. Couple that with Patrick Cantlay struggling after having a commanding lead and Scottie Scheffler showing some frustration finally on the greens, and you had a captivating event. Speaking of putting... Is it an overrated skill? The stats and world golf rankings would say that it is and ballstriking is the more important skill. We will discuss this in depth on episode 86. Riviera Country Club took center stage this week and did not disappoint. The 10th hole continues to perplex players and cement its position as one of the greatest short par 4's in the world. S1 Ep 84Episode 84: 54 Hole Frenzies at Pebble Beach & LIV Golf
E54 holes was the theme of golf this week as Wyndham Clark blistered Pebble Beach with a new competitive course record of 60, which ended up being enough as the event was shortened due to weather conditions. Clark rode an insanely hot putter to a one-shot victory over the phenom from Sweden Ludvig Aberg. A wet Pebble Beach was reduced to a pitch-n-putt for the best players in the world as they relentlessly fired at flagsticks and fired many low scores, including a 63 from Jason Day. LIV Golf kicked off their season in Mexico and Joaquin Niemann fired a first round 59 and then hung on in a playoff as darkness fell to best Sergio Garcia. The Strategic Sports Group, with owners from multiple sports teams, the Boston Celtics and Red Sox, Atlanta Falcons, etc. is in talks to infuse $3 billion dollars into the tour. What does this do for the talks with the PIF/LIV golf? Will the tour get billions from both? Will that deal fall out? Time will tell as we put a bow on 2023 and get ready for the 2024 golf season.
