Wie met gesomber over klimaatverandering aankomt, is bij Donald Pols aan het verkeerde adres. Een 'klimaatoptimist' noemt de directeur van Milieudefensie zichzelf. Hij groeide op in Zuid-Afrika, waar hij het einde van de Apartheid meemaakte. Momenteel spant hij met Milieudefensie een historische rechtszaak aan tegen oliegigant Shell.
