Book 101 Review, in its fifth season, features Susan Michel—spiritual speaker and author of Surrender to Joy—as a guest, sharing a powerful message of healing, resilience, and the journey toward inner peace and serenity.

Susan MichelSpiritual Speaker, Author, Surrender to Joy: From Suicide to Serenity, 2 time suicide survivorWhen I was 20 years old, I tried to end my life twice. With 6 bottles of sleeping pills inside of me, as my mother drove me to the hospital, I realized I didn’t really want to die, I just wanted to kill the pain. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. I understand what their desperation feels like. What helped me was facing my pain and developing a spiritual practice based on A Course in Miracles. I’m Susan Michel, Author, Suicide Prevention Advocate, and 2-time suicide survivor. My book, Surrender to Joy: From Suicide to Serenity is about becoming aware of our unhealed pain so healing can occur. Our natural state is one of peace, love, joy, and happiness. However, in order to attain this state consistently, we need to become aware of the blocks to love that we have unconsciously created. As a young woman, I felt abandoned and betrayed by my dad and everyone else in my life. When I denied my unhealed pain, my uncomfortable feelings exacerbated. When I owned my pain, I began to heal. My joy was on the other side of all that pain. I found that the keys to true transformation are forgiveness and gratitude. My mission is to help others identify and process emotional pain so transformation can occur and they can grow and open up to their innate brilliance. Book 101 Review, now in its fifth season, features MegAnne Ford as our guest—a passionate parenting coach dedicated to helping parents build deeper, more meaningful connections with their children. In this engaging conversation, MegAnne shares practical insights, compassionate guidance, and relationship-centered strategies that empower families to strengthen communication, foster emotional security, and create lasting bonds in today’s busy world.

MegAnne FordParent CoachA Mission to Help Families Thrive. I won’t stand by and watch parents struggle, and children suffer.I didn’t grow up in a home where connection was at the forefront of parenting. As a child, I was labeled a “problem,” often seen as loud, strong-willed, and difficult. My parents tried their best but relied on shame, blame, and punishment, which only created distance between us. I was left feeling misunderstood, and that led to rebellion and resentment. After entering early childhood education, I saw these same outdated tools still being used on children, resulting in resistance instead of learning. I realized I was using those same methods with my students, which sparked a desire for change. I set out to discover a better way for both parents and children.I dove deep into the work of attachment theory by John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth, as well as Dr. Daniel Siegel’s insights into brain development. Through my own journey of self-healing, I was able to forgive my mom for the pain I’d carried. I was empowered by this work and knew it was time to change how parents interact with their children. As I began working with parents, they asked, “How did you get them to do that?” A pivotal moment came when I helped a child struggling to leave the classroom. The change in the child’s behavior was immediate. Soon, parents kept asking the same question, which led me to reflect on the approach I was using. Through this reflection, I developed the C.L.E.A.R. Method—a system rooted in connection and communication, not control. This method isn’t about magic, it’s about thoughtful, consistent approaches to parenting that foster understanding and growth.Through the C.L.E.A.R. Method, parents like Cyndi stopped yelling and learned how to have conversations with their children, turning tense moments into opportunities for growth. Steph, who had been stuck in a cycle of permissiveness, became empowered, noticing her daughter’s willingness to listen without resistance. Dani, who was caught between being too firm or too soft, found balance and mutual respect in her relationship with her strong-willed son.But transformation isn’t always easy. Many parents, like Bridget, come to me after trying quick fixes from social media or parenting books, only to feel frustrated when those tips don’t bring lasting results. Bridget had been following positive parenting advice for years, but still struggled with her son’s outbursts. It wasn’t until she invested time in my courses and started practicing the foundational principles of the C.L.E.A.R. Method that things began to change. She shifted from reacting to responding, gaining confidence in her ability to manage situations calmly and consistently.Parents often come to me feeling overwhelmed, unsure of how to break free from ineffective cycles. They worry they are too permissive, fearing they’re losing control, or too strict, worried they’ll crush their child’s spirit. I’m here to help them navigate those concerns, offering a supportive space for parents to grow and learn.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Book 101 Review, in its fifth season, features an engaging conversation with Joel Harris, a historical fiction author, international bestselling ghostwriter, and founder of The Writer’s Mano. In this episode, Joel shares insights into storytelling, the craft of historical fiction, and the discipline behind writing stories that resonate across generations.

Joel HarrisWhat Is Your Roman Empire?I grew up with learning disabilities that made reading and writing feel like climbing a mountain barefoot. Every sentence was a struggle. Teachers mistook my quietness for disinterest. What they didn’t see was how hard I was fighting—how much I wanted to understand, to express, to connect.Stories became my refuge. I devoured them slowly, word by word, line by line. History, especially, fascinated me—the rise and fall of empires, the choices of men who stood on the edge of destiny. Among them, one figure captured my imagination more than any other: Hannibal Barca, the Carthaginian general who led his army, elephants and all, across the Alps to challenge Rome. His courage, his defiance, and ultimately his tragedy spoke to something deep within me.The Ivory General was born from that fascination—but more than that, it was born from my own battle with limitation. Writing it wasn’t easy. Some days the words felt like foreign soldiers invading my thoughts, refusing to line up in formation. But just as Hannibal adapted, strategized, and pressed forward despite impossible odds, I learned to do the same. I discovered that creativity isn’t about perfection—it’s about persistence. The Ivory General isn’t just a story about war. It’s about leadership, doubt, and the weight of ambition. It’s about what drives people to keep going when the path ahead is uncertain and the world seems stacked against them. In many ways, it mirrors my own journey as a writer—facing obstacles that seemed insurmountable, yet finding a way through.Today, when readers tell me that my story moved them, I think back to that child who couldn’t read a full page without frustration. I wish I could tell him that one day, those same struggles would shape him into a storyteller—that the very thing that once held him back would become his source of strength.Because if there’s one lesson I’ve learned, it’s this: greatness isn’t about never stumbling. It’s about rising each time you fall, carrying your burdens with grace, and turning them into something that lasts.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Book 101 Review, in its fifth season, features Brady Helm—Strategy and Business Therapy expert dedicated to helping owners replace duct tape solutions with clarity and sustainable growth—as my guest.

Brady HelmStrategy + Business Therapy | Helping Owners Replace Duct Tape with ClarityI’ve spent the last several years helping business owners get unstuck — not by giving them another checklist, but by helping them reconnect to the why behind what they do.Most of my work sits at the intersection of strategy, mindset, and communication. I help people see the blind spots between what they’re doing, what they say they’re doing, and what they actually want. It’s not just business coaching; it’s about building clarity from the inside out — the kind that changes how you lead, hire, and make decisions. Before that, I went through my own version of burnout and rebuilding. I learned the hard way that success without alignment is just noise. Now, I help people untangle that noise and rebuild their business in a way that feels honest, simple, and actually sustainable.I work with entrepreneurs, creative firms, and professional service providers — people who care about what they do but have hit that wall where things stop flowing. I bring frameworks that help them see the whole picture: operations, brand, communication, and self.My approach is pretty human — part strategy, part therapy, and a lot of real conversation. I’m not here to tell people what to do; I’m here to help them see what’s already in front of them and give it structure. If your audience is full of people trying to bridge that gap between who they are and what they do — we’re probably going to have a great conversation.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Muhammad NoumanAI Builder and Growth Strategist sharing lessons from my immigrant journey—on building smarter systems, scaling ideas with AI, and redefining growth through creativity and persistence.Hey, I’m Muhammad Nouman, but most people just call me Nouman.I’m an AI Builder and Growth Strategist who loves connecting creativity, technology, and human behaviour to drive smarter growth. My story isn’t a straight line. It’s a mix of reinvention, experimentation, and relentless curiosity that took me from Asia to the Middle East to North America, from managing million-dollar marketing campaigns to building AI-powered startups that help people and brands grow.A Marketer Who BuildsI’ve always believed marketing isn’t about selling, it’s about solving. I started my career in marketing at a time when paid media was exploding, data was getting messy, and everyone was chasing “growth hacks.” But instead of just chasing numbers, I became obsessed with building systems that made growth predictable.Over the years, I’ve helped companies, especially in e-commerce and SaaS, scale through data-driven strategies, paid acquisition, automation, and conversion optimization. At Tanmiah Food Company, one of Saudi Arabia’s leading poultry brands, I led e-commerce growth that doubled our customer base, expanded operations into new cities, and pushed app ratings to the top of the category. We built not just campaigns but ecosystems, combining CRM, paid media, and analytics to turn customer data into growth engines. That mix of marketing creativity and technical curiosity became my trademark. And in every instance, whenever this question was asked, the entire room would come alive wanting to share their experiences with one or more bad bosses. Before these instances, I thought I was the only one who had bad luck with some past bosses. Clearly I was wrong. It seemed like everyone has experienced at least one bad manager. But should it be this way? It led me to think maybe I should look into this. Why are there so many bad bosses? But more importantly, what are the great managers doing, (or not doing) that elevates their work? I realized this is where my focus needed to be.And so began my work in this area. For nearly 30 years I have researched the characteristics of great managers, worked as a manager, written about management insights, and now speak to audiences on this topic. The culmination of these insights are contained in my latest book, Perfect Bossture: The Framework of Elite Managers. The book presents both a conceptual model for managers to work from, as well as a set of practical areas managers can focus on in their day to day work; efforts which will simplify their work as managers and, at the same time, elevate both their team's performance and their organization's productivity.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

In its fifth season, Book 101 Review proudly features Paul Flood—a transformational guide and the founder of The Optimistic Heart—as my distinguished guest, sharing powerful insights on personal growth, resilience, and purposeful living.

Paul FloodGuiding midlife professionals through personal transformation to rediscover purpose, peace, and fulfillment.Today’s guest is Paul Flood, transformational guide and founder of The Optimistic Heart. Paul helps successful professionals in midlife—people who’ve checked all the boxes but still feel something is missing—find renewed purpose, peace, and direction.Paul’s journey started with a passion for science—but instead of test tubes, he found his laboratory in human behavior. After earning a degree in Organizational Behavior, he rose through the business world, fueled by a deep dive into behavioral and positive psychology, sales, Neuro Linguistic Programming, personal development and spirituality. But behind the success was a hidden struggle and quiet storm. Alcoholism pulled everything down—his business, his home, and his identity. From six figures to minimum wage, Paul hit rock bottom… and rebuilt from the inside out. With his life unraveled, he reexamined everything he thought defined his value. What followed was a powerful inner transformation and a return to something deeper. The lessons and concepts he spent his life learning, took on a new meaning as they became the foundation for his recovery. The spiritual lessons and concepts went from understanding different traditions to developing an intimate relationship with his higher power, his greater self and just as important, as his shadow self. Today, Paul shares these insights with others facing their own turning points. His clients often say, “I did everything I was supposed to do… so why does it still feel so empty?” That’s where Paul’s work begins. They did all the things they were "supposed" to do and seem to have a fulfilling life but find themselves searching for something to fill the emptiness that seems to control their lives.Today, he draws from 40 years of studies and experience, 15+ years of recovery, transformation, and deep listening to guide others through their own turning points. His 9-week program, The Transformation Quest, helps people shift from self-doubt and burnout to clarity, confidence, and joy.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Matthew JandernoaI help Christians become more human so they can become real saintsI grew up raised Catholic with parents who both worked for the Church. I wanted to rebel against the Church, but kept finding myself coming back because it just made sense. Over time, I realized that my rebelliousness could be a source of strength and not a constant thorn in my side.I always struggled to work for others, so long story short, I started my own business at 25 shortly after my first child was born with only half a website and no leads because I believed Jesus was calling me to. Now, I have another coach and two partnerships that have generated clients and a vision to grow even more. We help people to grow in virtue in light of their personality, families to communicate and understand each other better, and missionaries keep the fire alive after their time as a volunteer missionary. Book 101 Review, now in its fifth season, features Don Britton—77 years old, a dedicated businessman, a loving husband, a proud father, and a devoted grandfather—as my guest. In this inspiring episode, Don reflects on a lifetime of wisdom shaped by family, hard work, and perseverance. His insights offer listeners a profound look at legacy, leadership, and the values that carry us through every chapter of life.

Don BrittonThe Great Deception of American Christianity" is all about the corrupt American Church today teaching a modern gospel that misleads people by giving them a false sense of security about salvation.I was a worldly, lost, immoral man until I surrendered my life the Jesus in the privacy of my home in 1979 when I was 31 years old. Before that I had little knowledge or experience with the church world. After turning to the Lord I started going to church with a businessman who had shared the gospel with me. It was a full gospel church and was confusing to me so after several months I took my family to a Southern Baptist church. There I was told that I could still commit adultery like I used to and still go to heaven. I also realized that a lot of people in the church were living in sin. So after about a year I moved my family to Charismatic church. There we encountered more confusion as well as hearing so-called prophets whose words did not come true. We visited the Presbyterian church, went to tent meetings, visited the Church of Christ, and took a bible course at Kay Author's Reach Out Ranch. We also spent some time in a Pentecostal church with no better results. We went to special meetings here and there and even visited a home church. People gave us tapes on the prosperity gospel and books on salvation. The more we heard the more we were confused as to how all this could be Christian with so many different doctrines and traditions. So, in 1983 I bought a NASB bible, a concordance, a Greek dictionary, a Hebrew dictionary and an English dictionary. Then I quit church, brought my family home and began to spend all day on Sundays studying the scriptures to get clarity on the truth. Then after I studied a certain topic, I would meet with my family on Sunday evening and teach them what I was learning. I soon discovered that almost everything I had been taught by the church world was either false or only half true which makes it false. From there other people wanted to come and hear what I was learning, so we now had a home church. Later I was invited to speak at a Bible conference in Texas and then begin to travel and speak in different parts of the country on exposing the falsehoods of the church and teaching the truth about salvation. In 2015, I sold my auto repair business (of 43 years) and my used car dealership and started an accounting and tax service in my home. I continue to teach and serve a small body of believers and now do podcasts and YouTube videos to try and reach people with the truth. Thank you for considering me as a guest on your podcast. Book 101 Review, now in its fifth season, features Anne Angelo Webb—author and animal communication expert—sharing her unique insights into the powerful bonds between humans and animals and the stories that shape her work.

Anne Angelo WebbAuthor & Animal Communication Expert | 20+ yrs | Animal Massage & Acupressure Certified | LCSW | Hypnosis Practitioner | Host of The Animal Intuitive | Helping People Understand Pets & ThemselvesI’m not your typical animal communicator — and that’s exactly why your audience will pay attention. From a young age, I’ve sensed the world — and animals — in ways that most people don’t. I used to think something was “off” with me, but it turns out it’s part of how I’m wired. That sensitivity became a strength — allowing me to deeply connect with animals and help others do the same. Today, I bring that intuitive awareness together with grounded training as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and years working with trauma survivors, foster youth, and even offenders.I eventually stepped away from the clinical world — including a stint at UnitedHealthCare — after facing the secondary trauma that so many therapists quietly carry. But instead of leaving healing behind, I shifted into a new way of serving: helping people reconnect with animals, their own intuition, and the deep emotional truths those relationships uncover. My work has also led me into some unexpected intersections — like navigating my Christian faith while being someone with intuitive gifts. I know firsthand how it feels to wrestle with the question, “Is this okay?” That inner conflict is more common than people think, and it’s something I speak to openly and compassionately. Whether your audience is deeply spiritual, skeptical, or somewhere in between, I offer a bridge — not a division.I also use my platforms to highlight scientific research around the efficacy of animal communication, acupressure, and energy-based modalities. And when it comes to grief and pet loss, I’ve shared tools — both practical and spiritual — for navigating one of the most underestimated forms of heartbreak. If your show is looking for a guest who blends heart, humor, science, and soul — and who can articulate complex emotional topics in a way that makes people feel both understood and empowered — I’d love to bring this conversation to your audience.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Working for a woman-owned small business. I remember walking in the room to be interviewed. And there, waiting for me were three stunningly beautiful, accomplished and powerful women. The CEO, the COO and the CFO of the company. I remember walking out of that interview and I knew an opportunity like this was rare. I wanted that job so bad. And I got it! For years I worked for these three incredible female mentors who helped me get to where I am today. And then I moved into the manufacturing and eCommerce industries and felt the lack of female leadership immediately. I was constantly having to prove and persuade and frequently felt isolated. Book 101 Review, now in its fifth season, features Damian Bloss—an inspiring advocate for mental health awareness and addiction recovery—as my guest.

Damian BlossBreaking the silence. My journey from addiction to healingI was in active addiction for 20 years. I didn’t have what society would deem the makeup of having substance abuse issues (i.e. I didn’t look like it, I didn’t lose anything, my family history didn’t consist of substance abuse, etc.) until I lost what is most important…. I lost myself. My self destruction started with the loss of a close family member who died by suicide and I’m the only one who knew he had this thought. I carried that guilt for 20 years suppressing it with alcohol until I had to do something about it. I have been sober since February 13, 2020, and dedicated to inspiring others on their journey to recovery. I am the author of two powerful books, “Breaking the Silence: My Journey from Addiction to Healing” (published April 2024) and “Recovering Out Loud” (due out in Spring of 2026) sharing my personal story of transformation and hope.Beyond writing, I have partnered with my local detention center to mentor inmates facing substance abuse–related charges, and regularly speak at rehab centers, helping others see that recovery is possible. I also lead Breaking the Silence, a mental health and addiction support group that fosters open conversations and community healing. My mission is to show that when we break the silence around addiction, we open the door to healing and change..See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Book 101 Review, now in its fifth season, features Hannah Rose—CBS Survivor alum and therapist turned CEO—bringing her unique blend of resilience, insight, and leadership to an inspiring conversation.

Hannah RoseCBS Survivor alum & therapist turned CEO helping clinicians prioritize alignment and abundance over scarcity and burnoutI’m Hannah Rose, LCPC, a therapist, consultant, and founder of Rose Wellness Counseling and The Thriving Practice Academy. After years of watching therapists burn out while trying to help others heal, and experiencing it myself, I decided to change the way we approach business in mental health. When I appeared on CBS’s Survivor, my decision to quit the show sparked a nationwide conversation and became one of the most defining experiences of my life. It taught me that authenticity matters more than approval, even when the world is watching, and revealed how deeply unhealthy and shame-driven our culture’s response to “quitters” can be. That experience solidified my mission to help therapists, entrepreneurs, and purpose-driven professionals create sustainable success rooted in alignment rather than exhaustion.I’m also 14 years sober, a milestone that continues to shape my work, my leadership, and my belief that growth and healing are lifelong processes.Through my Academy and consulting work, I teach therapists how to build practices that support both their clients and themselves. I bring honesty, warmth, and real-world experience to every interview, sharing insights about resilience, imposter syndrome, shame, boundaries, burnout, and redefining success in a helping profession that often forgets to help its own.If your audience cares about authenticity, leadership, personal growth, or running a values-centered business, they’ll leave our conversation with tangible tools and a renewed sense of clarity and courage.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

It’s about transformation.Through his acclaimed podcast The Everyday Millionaire, he has held conversations with entrepreneurs, leaders, and athletes who look “ordinary” on the outside yet have achieved extraordinary results.
