Show Notes

Hello and welcome to the 1890's. This week we are taking you back to the Chicago World Fair and the murder mansion of H H Holmes, the inspiration for American Horror Story Season 5, Hotel. In this huge case we cover the life and crimes of Dr. Holmes, a habitual criminal who would stop at nothing to make money. His MO was to take out life insurance policies on all who came into contact with him, kill them and claim the insurance money. However he would go down in history as the cunning brain behind the vast hotel he built for the World's Columbian Exposition which attracted thousands of people from all over the country and would need a place to stay. As his story unravelled, the police would search this building to find some of the rooms had gas pipes to gas people to death, some had spy holes and some of the rooms even had a chute that led straight down to the basement where Holmes would dispose of the bodies in his incinerator or quick lime. This hotel was a bit of a maze, where you would find a staircase leading to nowhere or a room with no door, the stuff of nightmares. We hope you will join us on this incredible story, thanks for listening!
