Ep 40Ep. 40: Rock Bottom
Woooof, that's about as bad as it gets. We had these games against bad teams like the Detroit Tigers circled on the calendar for months as an opportunity for the Blue Jays to finally smack somebody around and hit their stride. That didn't happen this weekend. Despite getting three strong starts — an ace performance from Robbie Ray, a vintage Hyun Jin Ryu outing, and a strong showing from Steven Matz — the Blue Jays couldn't hit anything the Tigers threw at them. Worst of all, they couldn't hit Drew Hutchison, who none of us knew was still in the league just a few weeks ago. We talked about that miserable series, the team's lack of clutch and killer instinct, and tried to come up with some positives. It wasn't easy! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 39Ep. 39: The bullpen meltdowns continue in a two-game sweep against the Nationals
That road trip was not at all what you wanted to see. After flubbing to a 3-4 record through the West Coast part of the their swing, the Blue Jays rolled into Washington for a two-game set against the Nationals, a prime opportunity to end the trip on a positive note. That didn't happen. Alek Manoah got knocked around on Tuesday night and Rafael Dolis helped kill any chance of a late-game comeback. On Wednesday, Jose Berrios had a ho-hum start, the team rallied to earn a late-game lead, and then Brad Hand came in and threw it away. We talked about all of that bad stuff and also tried really, really hard to look for some positives from that frustrating couple of games. The Blue Jays are now 63-56, four games back of Oakland and Boston for the second wild-card spot. In positive news, both Oakland and Boston have been struggling lately, so this isn't all doom and gloom. The Blue Jays returning home to face the mediocre Detroit Tigers this weekend should be a boost, too, you'd think. That said, I'm worried that Old Friend Drew Hutchison is going to throw a no-hitter on Sunday. That would be too fitting. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 38Ep. 38: There were no good vibes in Seattle
Well, things did not go as expected during the Blue Jays trip to Seattle. The vibes were not good and Jays dropped two of the three games. Cam & Tyler broke down what went wrong in the series and managed to pull a few positives from the three games in today’s episode of BJN Radio! The bullpen struggled, but that might be a product of fatigue. As far as the offence goes, Teoscar continued his crazy hot streak while Vladdy started to bounce back from a rough week at the plate. On the mound, the Jays got a decent outing from Steven Matz in the series finale, which was a very good sign. Moving forward, they move on to Washington for a quick two game set against a really bad Nationals team. There is immense pressure on the Jays to sweep this upcoming set of games and when you consider who the teams they’re chasing are playing this week, there is a chance for the Jays to get right back into the race this week. Ep 37Ep. 37 - What we did & didn't like from the split vs the Angels
A new episode of BlueJaysNation Radio is here! Cam was busy enjoying a spa day out in the mountains so Tyler brought in Jonah Birenbaum (@birenball) to help break down the Blue Jays four-game series against Shohei Ohtani and the LA Angels. The Jays only managed to split the series and considering the tight playoff race they’re in, that’s a little bit disappointing. Tyler and Jonah went through what they did and didn’t like from the blue birds in ‘3 Up/3 Down’. One of the big positives was the outing that the Jays got from the big man Alek Manoah, who dominated the Angels in his start and continued his incredible rookie campaign. They also touched on a red-hot Teoscar Hernandez and a struggling Vladdy Jr. To wrap things up, Tyler took a look at the out of town scoreboard and previewed the upcoming three game set in Seattle. Ep 36Ep. 36 - The George Springer Appreciation Episode
What a weekend! The Blue Jays and Red Sox came into this weekend as two teams going in completely different directions. While the Blue Jays were thriving upon their return to Toronto, the Fraud Sox were finally starting to fall apart. That trend continued this weekend. The Blue Jays smashed the Sox on Friday, the two teams split a doubleheader on Saturday, and then George Springer capped off an epic comeback on Sunday, hitting a clutch three-run bomb in the eighth inning to give Toronto the series win. We talked about Springer's huge moment and what a game-changer he is for the team, especially as the pressure starts to mount down the stretch. We also talked about some good performances from the bullpen and the possibility of some pitching reinforcements on the way. Finally, we looked ahead to the upcoming series in Anaheim and talked about why the Mountain Time zone is the ideal space for watching sports. Hosted on Acast. Ep 35Ep. 35: George Springer goes nuclear as the Blue Jays take three of four from Cleveland
The good times keep rolling! Fresh off of sweeping the Kansas City Royals over homecoming weekend, the Blue Jays plowed through another limp-dick Central Division team this week, taking three of four from Cleveland. The Blue Jays are now 6-1 in seven games in Toronto this season and are eight games over .500 for the first time since 2016. Tyler finally returned from his long, mystical endeavour in the woods to talk about all of the good times the team has been having lately. We talked about how George Springer has finally arrived, how the starting rotation has suddenly become a strength of the team, and how blessed the Blue Jays are that the Marlins did them a solid and gave Adam Cimber away for virtually nothing. After that, we looked ahead to this weekend's four-game set against the struggling Red Sox. Boston has lost six of their last seven games and the Blue Jays have a chance to really turn their ugly stretch into a serious losing skid. Hosted on Acast. S1 Ep 33Recapping an incredible weekend at The Dome
The Blue Jays' homecoming couldn't have gone better. After nearly two years away from Toronto, the Blue Jays returned home and treated the fans to an absolute ass-kicking of the Kansas City Royals. Not only had the team been away for a long time, but this weekend's games featured the first playoff atmosphere at the Rogers Centre since the 2016 American League Championship Series against Cleveland. What a blast. With Tyler still lost in the woods, I had Paul Berthelot join to talk about all of the good vibes from the weekend. We talked about George Springer really establishing the whole "George Springer is a Blue Jay" thing with a huge weekend, Alek Manoah rising to the occasion and having an amazing start, and Jose Berrios putting together an excellent debut. We also talked about our thoughts on the Berrios trade and why it was a worthwhile move for the front office to make, despite the huge cost. Finally, I drew about as many comparisons as I could to the 2015 team because, seriously, the patterns are getting ridiculous. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

S1 Ep 33A Split at Fenway, trade deadline talk, catching up with the new-look Yankees, and more!
All things considered, that was a pretty good week. The Blue Jays rolled into Fenway and took two of four from the first-place team in the American League. They suffered a heartbreaker on Monday, the game was rained out on Tuesday, Robbie Ray guided the team to a win with an ace start on Wednesday, Steven Matz had a tough go in the night cap, and then the bats exploded for 13 runs in the finale on Friday. All said, two out of four ain't bad. It doesn't move the needle in terms of catching Boston, but it keeps them in the mix for the wild-card and it ensures that Friday's homecoming won't be a bummer. Anyways! With Tyler still lost in the woods and BK on a flight from B.C. to Toronto, I tackled talking about the Boston series ALL BY MYSELF. I also talked about the acquisition of Brad Hand from Washington and where he fits in the team's bullpen along with the rumour that the Blue Jays are in the mix for Jose Berrios. Finally, I welcomed Neil Keefe to the show to talk about the New York Yankees, who just had a huge swing by adding Joey Gallo and Anthony Rizzo ahead of the trade deadline. We talked about whether or not that'll be a game-changer for them, what he expects from the Yanks the rest of the way, and his thoughts on the Blue Jays. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

S1 Ep 32An up-and-down weekend with the Mets, a new-look lineup, refuting the idea of being sellers, and more!
What a rollercoaster that was. The Blue Jays, fresh off of an ugly two-game set with the Red Sox badly in need of some wins, rolled into Flushing to face the Mets. They got shut down on Friday, exploded on Saturday, and then lost a heartbreaker on Sunday. One step forward, two steps back. Me and BK discussed the team's new lineup composition, why it's ideal to have Bo Bichette in the four-hole, Hyun Jin Ryu's tough start, Ross Stripling's bounce-back, and Alejandro Kirk's return to the lineup. We also waved goodbye to T.J. Zeuch, who we fear might become the next Chris Carpenter in St. Louis, and then talked about how the Blue Jays should approach the trade deadline. There are many suggestions out there suggesting this team should sell, but we explained why that's a bad idea. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

S1 Ep 31BJN Radio - Ep. 31: Maybe they aren't the Fraud Sox after all?
That was ugly! The Blue Jays got smashed on Monday, rained out on Tuesday, and then they lost an incredibly frustrating game on Wednesday against a struggling starter with their ace on the mound. Oof. With Tyler on vacation, me and BK talked about the Red Sox series, why they might not actually be frauds, especially with Chris Sale nearing a return and killing it early on in his rehab assignment. We also talked about a whole bunch of different stuff from this week, like the T.J. Zeuch era coming to an end, Nate Pearson going to the bullpen, and what we can expect from the trade deadline given Ross Atkins' comments about how the starting pitching market is thin right now. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 30The brooms come out against the Rangers, the Blue Jays are come back to Toronto, and more!
The Blue Jays and kicking the crap out of the Texas Rangers — name a more iconic duo. We learned on Friday that the Blue Jays are FINALLY coming home on July 30! The team seemed to be charged up by that so they went ahead and pounded the Rangers by a score of 10-2, powered by perhaps Vladdy's biggest homer of the season. The game on Saturday was rained out, which led to a doubleheader sweep on Sunday by scores of 10-0 and 5-0. All told, the Blue Jays outscored Texas 25-2 over the weekend. You love to see it. We talked about the good stuff from the series, which was literally everything, and then we talked about how good the vibes are going to be on July 30. I also made a bold prediction about who's going to be taking the mound for The Return. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 29Ep. 29: Taking a trip around the American League with MLB.com's Jordan Horrobin
It might be the All-Star break but The Content never sleeps! We did a special edition of BJN Radio this week, talking about the Toronto Blue Jays beating the National League in the All-Star game thanks to a monster homer from Vladdy, a double from Teoscar Hernandez, and an RBI from Marcus Semien. After that, we welcomed MLB.com jack-of-all-trades beat reporter Jordan Horrobin to the show to take a trip around the American League. We touched on whether or not the Red Sox are frauds, why the Yankees have been so stunningly mediocre, what the Blue Jays should do at the trade deadline, and whether or not there are any other teams in the wild-card clump that we should be worried about. Finally, we looked ahead to the upcoming series against the Texas Rangers and talked about how the Blue Jays should acquire Joey Gallo, Ian Kennedy, and Kyle Gibson before the first pitch is thrown on Friday night. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 28Ep. 28: Burn down The Trop, Robbie Ray's next contract, the Nelson Cruz rumour, and more!
As usual, times at The Top weren't the best. The Blue Jays' bats went limp on Friday and Saturday but they managed to avoid being swept by the Rays thanks to Robbie Ray throwing a seven-inning one-hitter on Sunday. The team is now heading into the All-Star break with a good-not-great 45-42 record, so there's plenty of work to be done in the second half. We talked on this episode about Ray's excellent season and what it means for his next contract, the interesting rumour that the Blue Jays have ticked tired on slugger Nelson Cruz, the early returns from the couple of bullpen trades the front office has made over the past few weeks, and what to expect from the upcoming draft. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 27Ep. 27: Excellent starting pitching in a series win against the Rays, Liam Hendriks sounds off on Josh Donaldson, and more!
Two out of three ain't bad. The Blue Jays hosted Those Pesky Rays this weekend in Buffalo and nearly earned a sweep, picking up wins in the first two games but dropping the third on Sunday. Alek Manoah had arguably the best start of any Blue Jay this season on Friday night, Ross Stripling was again excellent on Saturday, and Robbie Ray was great in the finale but the bats didn't show up. We talked about all that good stuff, argued about whether we can firmly call Ray the ace of the staff, and also talked about some bad stuff, like the ugly return of The Rafael Dolis Experience and some shoddy defence in the series finale. Also, we talked about a story out of Chicago involving two members of the 2015 team. Liam Hendriks sounded off on Josh Donaldson, saying he didn't like what he saw behind the curtain when playing with The Bringer of Rain. Many have suggested the idea of a Donaldson return in order to fix the hole at third base, but this comment from Hendriks sheds some new light on that whole saga. All that and more in a busy BJN Radio! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 26An underwhelming result against the Mariners, Ryu's struggles, Teoscar an All-Star starter, and more!
That was disappointing! A couple of weeks ago, the Blue Jays embarked on what we all pointed out could be a season-changing stretch against bad opponents. They swept a two-game set with the Marlins and won five of seven against Baltimore, setting up an opportunity to really put together a good result for the stretch in the final series against Seattle. Toronto won the first game but then dropped the next two and ultimately went 8-4 in that 12-game easy-ish opponent stretch. Not terrible, but not exactly season-changing, either. Anyways! We talked about everything from the Seattle series, ranging from Hyun Jin Ryu's rough start and recent struggles to Adam Cimber's debut and what kind of difference he can make to the team's bullpen. We also talked about Teoscar Hernandez's amazing rise from going down to Triple-A to fix his swing to being voted in as an All-Star game starter. Finally, we looked ahead to a very, very important set against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays are limping a bit right now and the Blue Jays see them six times before the All-Star break. Doing well against them now would certainly help the Blue Jays make up some ground in the American League East standings. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 25Ep. 25: Dominating the Trash Birds, the catcher situation, trade proposals, and more!
The Blue Jays continued their dominance against the Trash Birds, winning three of four games over the weekend. Despite the good result, it was still a bit of a downer given the fact the team threw away yet another winnable game on Friday night. That Blue Jays really should have pulled off a four-game sweep, but that ain't easy to do when you only have one reliable bullpen arm. We complained about the meltdown, talked about Charlie's odd decision to use Tayler Saucedo in a key spot, and also looked at some positives from the series, like Vladdy mashing, Cavan Biggio doing well since coming back from the Injured List, and Reese McGuire's hot stretch. We then jumped into some trade talk because Silly Season is right around the corner. We discussed the idea of trading one of the five catchers on the 40-man roster and debated whether it would be wise to deal Nate Pearson to acquire a top-end arm such as Jose Berrios. Finally, we previewed the upcoming series against the red-hot Mariners, an objectively bad team who somehow pulled off a four-game sweep over Tampa and won two of three against the White Sox. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 24Ep. 24 - The winning streak reaches four!
Boy, playing terrible teams sure is fun! Fresh off of winning back-to-back games against the Orioles on Saturday and Sunday, the Blue Jays rolled into Miami for a two-game set with the Marlins and picked up a sweep, ultimately pushing their winning streak to a season-high four games. We talked on the post-series podcast about George Springer's ho-hum return and where he should be in the lineup, the excellent pitching of Robbie Ray and Ross Stripling, and the bullpen bouncing back with six effective innings. We also talked about Mark Shapiro's radio hit on Thursday morning in which he said he was confident the team would add pieces to help them be competitive. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 23Ep. 23: Taking two from the Trash Birds
Tyler is back from his soul-searching expedition in the woods and the Blue Jays are back in the win column! This weekend with the Trash Birds didn't look very good right off the hop as the Blue Jays got pounded 7-1 on Friday and then appeared to be on their way to another loss on Saturday. But a six-run rally in the ninth inning led by an incredible at-bat from Bo Bichette saved the day and the team rode a great Hyun Jin Ryu start on Sunday to a series win. We talked about the good from the weekend, like Bo and Ryu, and also the bad from the weekend, mostly the bullpen this episode of BJN Radio. We also touched on how the lineup should look when George Springer returns, how the team could move Gabriel Moreno up the system, and the two new (old?) bullpen additions, John Axford and Jacob Barnes. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 22Ep. 22: Things are bad. The Jays got swept.
This week on BJN Radio, Cam Lewis was joined by Brendan Kuhn to talk about the ugly three-game set from the Toronto Blue Jays that featured blown leads, some ugly performances, and even a triple-play. Things are not looking good & quite frankly, we're a little pissed off. Where do they go from here? Cam and BK talked about that and more this week on the pod. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 21Ep. 21: A Rollercoaster Ride at Fenway
That was a hell of a weekend-and-a-bit! The Blue Jays rolled into Fenway for a four-game series with the Red Sox, a team we are all desperate to call the Fraud Sox, and ended up with a split. It was kind of a sandwich of a series. The two games in the middle were great, as the Blue Jays kicked the piss out of Boston's pitching and earned a couple of big wins. But the two games on the outside, Friday and Monday, featured frustrating late-game implosions from the bullpen. We talked about Charlie Montoyo's decision-making and what the hell is going on with the 'pen and how it can be fixed. We also tried to dive into some positives, such as Vladdy continuing to be insane and Alek Manoah further cementing himself as The Big Man. It was a rollercoaster ride of a series and the podcast was, to be totally honest, a rollercoaster ride as well. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 20Ep. 20: Another disappointing series against a quality opponent
Yet again the Blue Jays have dropped two games in a three-game series. The team had a nice winning streak going against the Yankees, Cleveland, and Miami, but they got shut down by a pair of contending teams in Houston and Chicago. On this post-White Sox series edition of BJN Radio, we welcomed writer and friend of the website Paul Berthelot on to talk about the Blue Jays' bullpen issues, whether we should have any concern about Hyun Jin Ryu, and if it's time for Nate Pearson to come up and pitch out of the bullpen. We also talked about MLB's "foreign substances" issue and what it means for the Blue Jays and the league in general. Finally, we looked ahead to the upcoming four-game series with the Red Sox in Boston. The Sox haven't fallen off a cliff yet and, at this point, it seems like they probably won't. This is yet another good team the Blue Jays are facing and they need to start beating some of them. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 19Ep. 19 - We're done with the Astros
Tyler and Cam are back with a fresh episode of BJN Radio to discuss the Jays dropping two of three to the Houston Astros this weekend. They kicked off the pod by talking about how boring the series was as a whole before getting into 3 up/3 down (pres. by Twig & Barry's) and discussing whether or not the Jays can return to Toronto this season. On top of that, they also looked at some prospects who are playing well this season and previewed the upcoming three-game set against the White Sox. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 18Ep. 18: Taking a look around the American League at the one-third mark of the season
The Blue Jays' return to Buffalo was a success! The team pulled off a two-game sweep of the Miami Marlins, winning the first game handily on the power of a strong start from Robbie Ray and then winning the second with a dramatic ninth-inning comeback. There was quite a bit of good to talk about from this mini-series, such as the bullpen returning to form after a difficult few weeks and Lourdes Gurriel finally maaaaaaybe starting to heat up, but we also touched on Alek Manoah's tough start in the second outing of his big league career and whether there's any need for concern. After that, we welcomed Kenny Ducey from Draft Kings to take a look around the American League at the one-third point of the season. He talked about his biggest surprises so far, gave some love to the Blue Jays and Marcus Semien, and discussed who the biggest fraud in the league is right now. Finally, we finished up by looking at the series coming up against the Houston Astros. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 17Ep. 17: Charlie Montoyo discourse, watching baseball on tour, and more with Arkells' Nick Dika
Do you like seven-inning games? Well, you'd have loved this weekend! The Blue Jays rolled into Cleveland to battle with Cleveland's baseball team and their local weather forecast. They took Friday's game in a rain-shortened seven-inning outing, they got cold weathered out on Saturday, and then split the final two games on Sunday. The finale on Sunday featured a walk-off win by Cleveland in which Tyler Chatwood couldn't throw a strike and Charlie Montoyo didn't have anybody warming in the bullpen as his defacto closer imploded. We talked about why Charlie wasn't quick to pull Chatwood and whether his managing cost the team the sweep. We also welcomed Nick Dika, the bass operator from Arkells and a writer at FanGraphs fantasy, to the show to talk about a whole bunch of stuff, ranging from what the team should do come trade deadline time to what it's like to hear one of your band's songs played at nearly every sporting event. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 16Ep. 16 – The arrival of The Big Man
Alek Maonah has arrived! After dropping six games in a row to Boston and Tampa, the Blue Jays rolled into Yankee Stadium on their coldest stretch of the season badly in need of a win. We talked about Manoah's excellent start and the Blue Jays now maybe having something close to an actual starting rotation. After that, we looked ahead to the upcoming series in Cleveland and took a loop around the Majors, touching on disasters in Chicago and Pittsburgh. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 15Ep. 15 – A weekend of heartbreak with the Rays
What a dreadful weekend! The Blue Jays lost hosted the Rays and suffered four heartbreaking losses that featured late-game blown leads, extra-innings implosions, and comebacks that didn't quite happen. The team is now on a six-game skid and they sit in fourth place in the American League East with a 23-23 record. We talked about the gassed bullpen, whether or not we should Blame Charlie for all of these blown leads, and what the team needs in order to get back on track. We also talked about Vlad Jr. being in the mix for the AL triple crown (!!!) and the team finally calling up Alek Manoah to make his big-league debut. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 14Ep. 14 - A promising series with the Red Sox ends in catastrophe
This series looked so promising. The Blue Jays pounded the Red Sox on Tuesday and had first place in the American League East within their grasp and then... *loud fart noise* Ross Stripling got lit up on Wednesday and then Rafael Dolis blew a two-run lead in the ninth inning of the rubber match to give Boston the series victory on Thursday. Talk about deflating! We had an angry version of BJN Radio following the loss, talking about the recent struggles of the exhausted bullpen, the frustration of the Blue Jays having to hear opposing fans dominate their home ballpark, and whether or not we'll see Alek Manoah finally called up to make his big-league debut. Finally, we looked ahead to the four-game series with the surging Tampa Bay Rays on the horizon and talked about what our hopes and expectations are for that series. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 13Ep. 13: The good times keep rolling with a series win over the Phillies
After picking up a sweep in Atlanta over the Braves, the Blue Jays kept the good times rolling in Dunedin by taking two of three over the Phillies. The bullpen had a rare implosion on Friday night resulting in a loss, but the team rebounded on Saturday behind a strong outing from Anthony Kay. Finally, the Blue Jays pulled off the series win on Sunday by kicking the crap out of a former teammate, Chase Anderson. We talked about the good things from the series, like Vlad Jr. busting out of his slump and Lourdes Gurriel starting to figure things out at the plate. We also talked about some of the bad things, like whether we should be worried about the injury-riddled bullpen finally having their extreme workload catching up to them. Finally, we took a look ahead to this week's three-game series with the Boston Red Sox, who just don't want to fall back down to earth. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 12: Celebrating Another Sweep & Cam's Birthday
The boys are back with another episode of Blue Jays Nation Radio! Today on the pod they jumped right into '3 Up, 3 Down' presented by Twig & Barry's BUT since it was Cam's 28th birthday, he made the decision to not do any "downs" and just run with six "ups". They talked about some strong performances from Ryu, Ray, Biggio, Hernandez, and others before getting into another impressive AAA appearance from Alek Manoah! The bats are rolling and the team is getting nothing but solid outings from pretty much everyone in the bullpen as well. They wrapped up this week's episode by taking a quick look ahead at the upcoming three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 11Ep. 11: Houston, Nate has a problem
After earning a split in Oakland, the Blue Jays rolled into Houston and dropped two of three against the Astros. The series started with an ugly outing from Ross Stripling and then concluded with a frustrating outing from Nate Pearson in his 2021 Blue Jays debut. We talked on this week's podcast about Big Nate's struggles with command and whether it's best for him to go down to Triple-A to work them out or whether the team should let him try to sort it by facing big-league competition. We also talked about the state of the Blue Jays' decimated bullpen, Cavan Biggio launching a homer in front of his parents, Rowdy Tellez coming back up and doing well at the plate, Danny Jansen regressing to the mean now that Alejandro Kirk is out long-term. Finally, we looked ahead to the series in Atlanta with the Braves. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 10Ep. 10: A split in Oakland, the Springer Saga, Free Manoah, and more!
There was a lot to talk about after the Blue Jays' four-game set out west in Oakland. We recapped the good from the A's series, including Robbie Ray again not walking anyone and Marcus Semien popping off in his return home, and we talked about the bad, including the injury bug that won't leave the Blue Jays alone and Steven Matz's second consecutive rough start. We also went into a bit of a rant about the puzzling George Springer injury saga. After being told Springer wasn't playing simply because he needed some rest, the $150 million man is back on the Injured List. Who would have guessed! Why the Blue Jays are being so coy about this whole thing is a mystery and it's incredibly frustrating. After that, we talked about the Angels releasing Albert Pujols and how funny it would be if he inexplicably finished off his career as a Blue Jay in Buffalo. Finally, we wrapped things up by talking about Alek Manoah's amazing Triple-A debut and how he could factor into the team's plans when the trade deadline comes around. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 9Ep. 9: The brooms come out against the Braves, a minor-league season preview, and more!
Bring out the brooms, boys! For the first time in 2021, the Blue Jays have swept a series, and it came against an impressive opponent in Alex Anthopolous' Atlanta Braves. Party like it's 1992! We welcomed our good pal BK on this post-series episode and talked about how the lineup is finally firing on all cylinders with George Springer and Teoscar Hernandez back in the mix and whether or not this could be the start of a major run. We also talked about the most recent glut of injuries the team is facing, as Alejandro Kirk, Anthony Castro, and Tommy Milone went on the Injured List, while Springer is dealing with some kind of mysterious "fatigue" issue. Finally, we looked ahead to the four-game series coming up in Oakland, went up and down Toronto's minor-league affiliates and talked interesting things to watch from them this season, and then went off on a random discussion about baseball in Vancouver and which time zone is the best for sports. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 8Ep. 8: Vladdy's hat-trick and Springer's return leads to a two-game split with the Nationals
That was certainly not how any of us expected that series to shake out. I mean, I think expecting to split a two-game series with the Nationals was reasonable given the fact three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer was on the mound, but kicking the piss out of Scherzer and then losing to *checks notes* Erick Fedde certainly wasn't where I would have put my money. Anyways! a 1-1 split! The first game was a blast as Vladdy put together a historic three-homer, seven RBI game. After that, George Springer finally got activated from the Injured List and the bats went totally limp. Weird, weird stuff! We talked on this episode of Blue Jays Nation Radio about a bunch of stuff from this mini-series, including Vlad, Springer, Hyun Jin Ryu going on the IL, Rowdy Tellez going to the Alternate Site, what to expect from the upcoming series with Atlanta, and where some of the organization's key prospects are headed next week. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 7Ep. 7: Good Times at The House of Horrors
Good times at The Trop? What world is this?!?! The Blue Jays rolled into Tampa Bay and saw the Rays for the first time since getting swept away in the Wild-Card round of last year's post-season and things went quite well. Steven Matz was excellent on Friday, Jordan Romano imploded in Game 2, and the bullpen put together a masterful performance in Game 3 for the Blue Jays to take two of three. We talked about all of the things that were good, like the bullpen, Robbie Ray not walking anyone, and Santiago Espinal's presence on the field and in the lineup, and also touched on the things that weren't so good, like Bo and Vlad going 1-for-25, Hyun Jin Ryu suffering an injury, Romano's worrying outing. We also welcomed Mat Germain from Rays The Roof on the show to talk about what to expect from the Rays for the rest of the season. He went into some detail for us about some exciting arms the Rays have on the way and when we can expect to see Wander Franco, baseball's No. 1 prospect, make his debut. Germain also said that he's predicted the Blue Jays will finish second in the AL East this year, behind the Rays and ahead of the Yankees. Hosted on Acast. Ep 6Ep. 6: The bullpen comes up huge for a two-game split at Fenway
The Blue Jays rolled into Fenway and earned a split in their mini, two-game series with the Red Sox this week. All things considered, given Toronto's wealth of injuries and how well the Red Sox had been playing early on, earning a split here is a pretty good outcome. The Blue Jays limited the Red Hot Sox bats to just eight runs over the two games, impressive given Boston came into the series with the best offence in baseball. We talked on this post-series podcast about the team's unlikely hero, the bullpen, the one-two punch of Bo and Vlad absolutely mashing, the team's challenges with defence, particularly Lourdes Gurriel and Cavan Biggio, and what the lineup should look like when George Springer and Teoscar Hernandez return. We also looked ahead to the looming three-game series at The House of Horrors with the Rays. Tampa is also dealing with a wealth of pitching injuries but they're starting to find their stride offensively. This is a big series for the Blue Jays but they have their best three arms, Hyun Jin Ryu, Steven Matz, and Robbie Ray going. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 5Ep. 5: Bad times in Kansas City? What else is new?!?
The Blue Jays rolled into Kauffman Stadium, a place of shadows, darkness, and sadness, and had their momentum squashed. After completing an exciting series win over the New York Yankees that was capped by a Bo Bichette walk-off dinger, the Blue Jays had themselves an opportunity to start climbing up the American League East ladder with a four-game set against the thoroughly mediocre Royals. That didn't happen as the team dropped three of four. We talked about the downs from the series, of which there were multiple, such as the stagnant offence, Randal Grichuk's suddenly stone-cold bat, and Charlie Montoyo's puzzling bullpen management. But we also managed to find some positives, such as Steven Matz' killing it, Vlad Jr. arriving, and what appears to be the impending return/debut of George Springer. We also took a look ahead to the upcoming two-game set with the Red Sox at Fenway. Boston has been weirdly good this year. Is it a mirage? Or should we be worried about some weird, 2013-level stuff from them? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Ep 4Ep. 4: Another series win over the Yanks!
Boy oh boy, does that feel good! After a difficult week, which featured back-to-back series losses, an injury-riddled Blue Jays squad hosted the New York Yankees and, yet again, came out with two of three wins. Gerrit Cole was excellent in the opener, the bats woke up in the second game behind an amazing start from Hyun Jin Ryu, and then Bo Bichette powered the team to a win in the third game on Wednesday afternoon with a walk-off bomb. Ep 3Ep. 3: A Return to Optimism After a Difficult Week for the Blue Jays
What a strange week that was! After taking two-of-three from the Yankees to kick off the season, the Blue Jays rolled into Texas and we all just assumed they would plow through the Rangers, as the history of that rivalry would suggest. That didn't happen. After that, the Blue Jays went "home" to host the Angels in Dunedin and dropped the first two games of the series to extend their losing streak to four games. Thankfully, the Blue Jays ended the weekend on a positive note with a 15-run Saturday and a well-timed rain-out on Sunday that saved us from having to watch Tanner Roark pitch to Mike Trout. We welcomed Brendon Kuhn, everybody's favourite out-of-the-blue news-breaker, to the podcast to go over the week that was, touching on the lows, such as Bo Bichette's struggles at short and the team's ugly strikeout numbers, and reaching for the highs, such as Steven Matz' hot start and Robbie Ray's return bumping Tanner Roark to the bullpen. We finished off by looking ahead at this week's series against the New York Yankees, which will put two teams who haven't exactly lived up to expectations thus far head-to-head. Hosted on Acast. S1 Ep 2Ep.2: Recapping Week One & Getting a Yankee fans perspective on the Blue Jays
That was an excellent Opening Weekend for the Toronto Blue Jays. The good guy rolled into Yankee Stadium and made a statement by picking up the series win despite having a couple of key players on the Injured List. There's a loooooong ways to go, but it looks like the Blue Jays are poised to go toe-to-toe with the Yanks this year. So, what do things look like from the other side? We welcomed Joshua Diemert of Pinstripe Alley on the show to talk about the Yankees, what he expects from them this season, what he thought about the Blue Jays based on this weekend, and what it would take for Toronto to jump New York and win the American League East. Beyond that, we also talked about our three up, three down from this weekend, ranging from great performances from the Blue Jays bullpen and some big hits from Randal Grichuk to an awful bunt attempt by Danny Jansen and Cavan Biggio's difficult start. We also previewed what we're going to see over the next week as the team heads to Texas to face the Rangers and then heads home to Dunedin to host the Los Angeles Angels. Hosted on Acast. S1 Ep 1The Blue Jays X-Factor & an American League Preview with Dan Szymborski
Welcome to Blue Jays Nation Radio! No, it isn't on the radio, but you get the idea. It's our podcast (which drops every Monday Morning) in which we'll be talking about all of the good and spicy Blue Jays-related content that you more than likely want to hear. Since we're just a couple of big-time dumbasses, our plan is to bring as many guests into the mix who actually know what they're talking about as possible. And that's exactly what we did this week! We welcomed FanGraphs' Dan Szymborski (the father of the ZiPS projection system) to the show to take us on a tour around the American League. Dan walked us through who's bad, who's good, and where the Blue Jays stand based on all of that. HINT: things look quite good. Other random stuff we touched on includes... The pitching puzzle that Charlie Montoyo and The Algorithm have to sort out, being all-in on the Thin Vlad breakout, and whether Nate Pearson might wind up in an Andrew Miller-esque role this season. We also took some insane Hot Takes from the audience to finish things off, which is, as you'd expect, interesting. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
