OK, maybe not live and in-person (like back in radio days), but doing the show "live" as a video stream on platforms like YouTube and others. Would you watch? Gotta admit, sounds pretty scary... just a couple of old guys ranting about life. <p>This week - an unexpected and fun phone call visit from "The Boss." For those that don't know, that's BJ's son Gentry, who runs the podcast network that this - and many other - fine podcasts appear on the interwebs. A few good father and son stories, and some other catching up in the podcast world. </p> <p>Also, the very important discussion of exactly how to best time our visit to your local Wal-Mart. Yes, it's important! For BJ, it's all about avoiding the tourist traffic with a store that's very close to Disney World. For Bill, it's all about avoiding the college-student traffic, with his store very near the University of Florida campus. </p> <p>As always, the boys catch up on sports, and some interesting stories that "almost" happened in auto racing (one of BJ's favorites). <p>Another podcating milestone for the boys... Episode 90! Thanks for all your support. We're looking forward to some kind of party for the Big #100.</p> <p>Speaking of milestones, BJ had a birthday in the past week. On the show, he talks about some life (and living) goals. Now he's aiming to live to be 75...but we know he's gonna be around for a lot longer than that! So of course the talk of living to "advanced" age led to more conversation about getting old, doctor visits, and upchucking in the car. <p>This week, the boys talk about BJ's latest doc appointment - so what else is new, right? But it does lead to a good discussion of how we either support ourselves - or hurt our health - with the food we eat (or dont' eat, of course).</p> <p>BJ continues to work on keeping his health in good condition, and Bill continues to work on losing a few pounds (OK, more than a few!), and there are good stories all around.</p> <p>The other big question of the week: How far would you go to see Taylor Swift in concert? Shes currently playing in Paris (as of this podcast date), and news is that lots of Americans are flying to France to see the show there. Seems it's actually cheaper to get tickets in Europe! Swifties, get your passports ready. </p> <p>A little bit more on sports, and some interesting ideas on doing the podcast "live and on location," just like a live radio show back in the day. </p> <p>Also, keep an ear out for a new podcast called "Gut Punched," It's not about fighting at all. It's about how friends and family members deal with the newfound knowledge of a loved one being diagnosed with dementia and / or Alzhiemers'. A friend of BJ's is starting a new podcast on that topic, and BJ was a guest on one of the first episodes. <p>What a fun show! Yes, we say that a lot, but this one turned into something special. We hope and trust you'll agree. </p> <p>A bit of sports catch-up first, as always. BJ's Warriors have been out of the NBA Playoffs for some time (he's bummed), and Bill's Cavaliers beat the Orlando Magic in seven exciting first-round games (he's thrilled). Some NBA, some Kentucky Derby as well...</p> <p>Which led to a lot of BJ and Bill history (separately, in their very early radio-career days). Talking about back-woods and small-town KY radio for both of them.</p> <p>Then, the sad news: BJ was unable to get to talk to Peter Noone when the former Herman's Hermits star appeared live at Epcot Center / Disney World last week. As you know, the boys have been pretty much stalking Noone (not, we hope, in a creepy way) to try to get him on the podcast. Still, no luck. But, it's some funny stuff from BJ's afternoon at the show.</p> <p>Keep an ear out for a new podcast called "Gut Punched," It's not about fighting at all. <p>BJ in the Radio Hall of Fame? Well, honestly, no... but the boys spend some time this week talking about the "what might have beens" in their careers, so that makes for some jokes. Other funnyy stuff... how a dad (BJ) gets a little fatherly revenge on his kids with the stories of their names. For BJ, it's one musical instrument, one car. Don't know what that means? Better tune in to find out. </p> <p>Also, BJ's ongoing quest to "try" to talk to music star Peter Noone. If you've been following the show (of course you have, right?!), you know Noone was a guest on the BJ and Bill Show many, many years ago. The boys have tried to contact him a few times to (hopefully) have him on the podcast, but they've been running into brick walls... Noone's agent, etc. Now BJ is seeing Noone perform live at Epcot Center / Disney World. What's going to happen? <p class="p1">Remember back in the day… That TV commercial for a brand of cassette tape (remember those!?)… “Is it live or is it Memorex?” (Pretty sure that was the brand.) This week, BJ has a brand-new voice recording, high-tech toy in his home studio, and we get to play the “Is it live?” game all over again. Sounds weird, but you’ll just have to tune in to find out more.</p> <p class="p1">Also this week, the boys wonder out loud if they’ll ever hear from their all-time favorite in-studio radio guest, Peter Noone. On past shows they’ve talked about reaching out to the former front man of the band Herman’s Hermits.. But there’s been no luck in contacting him.</p> <p class="p1">Well, turns out Noone is going to be performing at Disney World (Epcot Center) in Orlando soon, and BJ is thinking hard about crashing the party, to see if he can get some face time with Noone. <p>So... would you enjoy a hearing a grown man cry? Well, tune in to this weeks' show as BJ sobs (just a bit) over the loss suffered by the Purdue Boilermakers in the Champtionship game of the men's Final Four NCAA tournament. <p>This week - the wonders of travel to and from SW Florida... back in the early days. Driving down I-75 ... till it ended! BJ used to be a standup comic (among other things), and he's had thoughts about getting back up on stage. <p>For some, it's a short(er) work week. Some have a day off for the MLK Holiday... and if that's you, we hope you had some extra fun, and a bit of time for reflection. It's still a crazy world out there, and Dr. King's message is just as powerful today as when he spoke ot it.</p> <p>For the show... BJ reports on how his wife is going on a ladies-only mini-vaca to New Orleans. We know she can be trusted, but how about BJ? Not so sure... <p>Pretty sure there are no "spoiler alerts" in this episode... as BJ dives deep into the smash movie "Barbie." Yes, he went to see it...and kept his man-card. Along with that cinema classic, there's talk of other movies seen and not seen in the past few months. It's all part of a bigger disucssion from the recent Golden Globes awards, so check in for that. </p> <p>In addition, there's talk of taking good care of your health in the new year. Seems like just about everyone we know is sick these days, so be careful out there! BJ talks about his heart transplant a bit, and the support group that grows up around people who have had various body parts replaced. Interesting stuff. </p> <p>But, when it comes to actually important, hard-hitting reporting, be sure to listen in as the boys discuss the various fun and fast foods that have been replaced by "healthy" alternatives. Does making chicken wings out of cauliflower made them a health food? Hmmm... </p> <p>The new year is off and running...
