Ep 168The Importance of Community and Support Groups during Pregnancy and Postpartum
Cynthia Tinajero, creator of Mamistad New Moms Network, joins host Ciarra Morgan to discuss the importance of community and connection for new parents. She shares her journey of being diagnosed with depression in her first trimester of pregnancy and how she created this group to support other people through the journey of entering motherhood. She emphasizes the importance of flexibility in motherhood and the need to embrace challenges and maintain an open mind. Cynthia highlights the significance of community and support groups for new mothers, encouraging them to connect with others and share experiences in an effort to avoid the feeling of isolation that becomes all so common. Cynthia Tinajero created the Mamistad New Moms Network in 2005 to help first-time pregnant women share the exciting, yet daunting journey of becoming a new mom. We continue to see new moms struggle with PMADs (perinatal mood & anxiety disorders) and isolation. Our increased awareness of these issues has taught us that having other moms to relate to and share the journey can be extremely helpful. Connection can validate a new mother and affirm her journey. Mom groups become playgroups and when partners join in, communities are born! Mamistad’s Mission: to ease the transition to new motherhood through curated support groups that lead to strong communities and provide information and resources via our website and podcast, Mom Chat with Mamistad. Mamistad groups are currently in the DC area, Austin, TX, and Denver, CO. Soon, we hope to be everywhere! Are you a parent interested in learning more from Ciarra? Ep 139Preparing for Conception and Optimizing Fertility
Ciarra Morgan and Dr. Stephanie Chan discuss the different aspects of fertility. Dr. Chan emphasizes the role of functional medicine in addressing hormone and fertility challenges, and shares practical tips for tracking cycles, recognizing signs of ovulation, and debunking common fertility myths. The discussion also highlights the significance of personalized approaches to fertility preparation and the importance of seeking help early in the process. Dr. Stephanie Chan is originally from New York City and is a mom of two. She is passionate about helping women find answers and trusting their body again—because fertility isn’t just about getting pregnant, it’s about thriving through the journey. After navigating her own struggles with hormone issues and fertility challenges, she realized how many women were being dismissed or given band-aid solutions. That’s what led her to functional medicine—and to helping women finally feel seen, supported, and empowered in their fertility journeys. Using a root-cause approach and mineral-based testing, she supports women with irregular cycles, unexplained infertility, or conditions like PCOS to build strong foundations for a healthy pregnancy, without jumping straight to IVF.
