Ep 37Exodus 30 Altar of Incense. Prayer Designed by God Part 1

Through the books of the Bible, we come to Exodus 30 which gives us an exciting design for prayer! A sin offering is made on the large altar which we tackled in other podcasts. Our podcast today is discussing the altar of incense. When we are serious about dealing with sin in our life we will recognize that the sacrifice of animals can only COVER over our sin. The animals were innocent. We are not. This fact should create a desire for gratitude toward God for providing a way to get close to Him. The sacrifice is pointing to Christ. Next, we have the altar of incense which is a picture of the pattern of prayer. Repentance of our sins and self-will leads to worship. This is a soothing aroma for God. As believers in Christ, we want to offer prayers that deal with the recognition of our need to obliterate sin. When we deal with sin, we then submit to God's authority in our lives (the four horns) and move toward a relationship with Almighty God that shuns sin! These prayers are answered because we are aligning with His will and drawing close to the Giver of Life! We then can become servants useful for His good work. Notice that we are putting our faith in the lamb, we are not perfected, in and of ourselves. We are perfected because we placed our sin, by faith, on the lamb and are willing to rid our lives of sin to be pleasing to God. The fragrant perfume is our willingness to get honest about our sin and seek judgment against it and then walk in worship to God. Our prayers go up to God with love and thanksgiving for the sacrifice of the lamb taking our place. We should have died because the wages of sin is death, but He has made a way for us to fellowship. Let's use this pattern of prayer. Pray to deal with sin, pray to place our sins on the Lamb of God (Christ Jesus) and pray to worship God in thanksgiving that Christ took our punishment and then let us pray for repentance of any and all sin and pray for His authority in every area of our lives and become Kingdom people! Use God's pattern when you pray. Pray to do His will. Join Ric and Mary Joyner in the podcast. Next week will be Altar of Incense Part 2 God honors those who are obedient. Ep 36Exodus 29 Why was the lamb sacrificed?

“Ok Ric and Mary, what lamb are you referring to?” Great question because we see several situations that tell us a story about sacrifice and covering sin. Background: Scripture says: “The soul that sins shall die.” Ez 18:20 and “The wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23. These two scriptures sum up what happened in the garden of Eden with Man. Adam and Eve decided to depend on themselves rather than God. They chose to break God’s law, and this is an excellent definition of sin; ‘dependence on ourselves.’ Another aspect to consider is that Man was made to serve and worship God. God’s ultimate plan is to dwell with man. The garden was created for God to live with man, and so were the sanctuary and the temple. Thus, being made servants, we are to act accordingly by serving and worshipping God in all we are, do and say. Christ was our example by setting aside His will to do the will of God. In the garden, when God saw Man had sinned, God, Himself took an animal and “covered” their nakedness and made them clothes. The animal died in their place. Through Adam and Eve, we were born into sin. As Exodus 2 opens, the Hebrews are in brutal slavery in Egypt which is a picture of the world system and Satan’s kingdom. Our desires run to a world system which is always tempting us to worship other gods and even to serve ourselves. Read Psalm 78 for an overview of the nation of Israel. The story and failure is a picture of us. Christ warned us of enslavement to sin in John 8:31-36. During this Passover season, it behooves us to ask the Holy Spirit to examine our lives for hidden sin and idolatry. The Hebrews were instructed to kill a lamb so that death would Passover them. Christ is our Passover lamb. Then for seven days, they were to remove all leaven from their lives, which is a picture of sin, 1 Cor 5:7. God is teaching us that sin is a separator from God. The presence of God in our lives will reveal sin. Then in Exodus 29, God instructed the priests to sacrifice two one-year-old lambs, one for each morning and evening! God is offering to cover our sin every day! It points to Christ. If we were an Israelite our job was to, by faith, place our sin onto the sacrifice of the lambs. We ask God to cover us and forgive us. We are not to work in religious practices to have our sins hidden but to look toward God and get help from Him. Fast forward to Christ being brutalized and hung on a tree for our sin. John the Baptist called Jesus Christ the lamb of God. John 1:29 “The next day John seeing Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.” The torture of Christ was a picture of God’s wrath on OUR sin (let’s make this personal). The lambs were innocent, but the people were not. Christ was sinless and willingly gave Himself for us who are not innocent! Let us deal with sin now during this season of the Passover lamb. Titus 2:11-13 is God 's goal for man. He then gives us the Holy Spirit to empower us away from ungodliness! During this Passover and Resurrection days, Mary and I will be at the foot of the cross in sincere gratitude to our Savior because we indeed need saving! We desperately want the presence of God in our lives to fellowship with our Creator. Thus, we will trust in Christ’s sacrifice this Passover and Resurrection knowing that sin was dealt with when we believe in Christ. We will also move to eradicate sin in our lives with His help. We end with this verse: Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Join us for this podcast! Ep 35Exodus Chapter 2 Part 6 Sitting at the well

Moses flees Egypt. He stood up to the Egyptians and the situation turned for the worse. He fled to Midian and sat down by the well. There is another famous biblical story of someone sitting at a well. In John 4, Christ sat down by the well to discuss, of all things, worship with the “woman at the well”. Worship of our Creator is the highest purpose of man. We worship God by sitting down from our own efforts. Obedience to God reflects service in all areas of our life. We live by His Word. Sitting at the well is a podcast about giving up our effort and becoming dependent on God. Moses effort to save the Israelites ended him running for his life. Next scene is at the well where Moses is sitting down. He gave up his effort. And while scripture doesn’t say what Moses was thinking or feeling, we know that worship is a picture of sitting at the well. How do we know? There was another famous “sit down” at a well and it is in the New Testament. In John 4, Christ sat down by the well and discussed worship of God with a woman. The parallels between the two stories are remarkable. We know that Moses was a type of Christ! Why is the well a metaphor for worship? Taking our effort, our worries, our fears, our running and give them up at the well, we need to dig deep by lowering the bucket to the refreshing water. Christ is our refreshing water. We worship our Creator, knowing our lives have ALWAYS been in His hands. Worship leads to service. Join Ric and Mary joyner for sitting at the well.

Ep 34Raising children to have a relationship with God

More Information What is relationship parenting? And what is the Scriptural basis for relationship parenting? Let’s discuss the styles of parenting today. One type of parenting is called modeling. In other words, we “model” good “Christian” behavior in front of our children and then expect them to model that behavior when they grow up. However, this can produce children who are “religious” thus “going through the motions” because it pleases you. The danger of this type of parenting is that the kids don’t “connect” with the religion and can abandon what we modeled either before or after they leave home. As adults, we know our relationship with Christ is vital for all aspects of our life. Wouldn’t that be the same for a child? We remember as children that we had fears, troubles in relationships and wanting to be heard. Let’s point them to Christ each and every day. We are raising “little sinners” like ourselves. We need help! Let’s turn to our bibles and read about two different generations. One followed God’s will into the promised land and the other abandoned even knowing God and they were in the land He gave them! Compare all verses in context This is what we hope will happen in our parenting: Proverbs 22:6 (New American Standard Bible) Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Note the phrase; “train up” is dedicate. As in dedicating the temple of the Lord. We are to dedicate our children AS temples of the Lord’s dwelling. This is where teaching a relationship with God and obedience to His word in their daily lives is so critical. Teaching them the plans and purposes of God so they can line up with His purpose is dedicating them. (The goal of the Lord in the old and new testament is to “dwell with His people” such as the garden, the sanctuary in the wilderness, the temple, and then finally Jesus Christ) We show them how through modeling and they implement a relationship with Christ. Judges 2:7 (New American Standard Bible) And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel. This is what we do not want! Judges 2:10 (New American Standard Bible) And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. This scene is playing itself out in the world today with the children we raised abandoning God. Did you notice what I shared? Abandoning God, not just church! How then do we model correct behavior that pleases God AND to teach our kids to have a relationship with Christ? Only through the help and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Our God wants to build His kingdom in those little hearts of our children. Let’s help Him do that! Ep 33What is Biblical Faith? Part 2 IMPACT

How shall we start in faith? Fortunately, we have 66 books that help us know God's will. We are created by God, to serve Him. He is loving and allows us to go our own way. Faith brings us to Christ through repentance of our sin. Pewsitters then walk in obedience to God's word. We search the scriptures so we will know what pleases our King if we are going to be Kingdom people. People of biblical faith then are those who choose to study God's word and apply it so that His plans and purposes are revealed in their lives and then to those around them. The presence of God is a precious thing and we want to walk with Him in obedience. We want to KNOW Christ and He was obedient to His Father's will. Let's walk in His power! Ep 30What is biblical faith? Part 1 The Bible Study Challenge

As Mary and I have studied Exodus, we noticed that the children of Israel died in the wilderness! They saw the judgment that God brought against Egypt to free them from their bondage. They saw the miracles that God did in caring for them in the wilderness. Yet, they all died there with God angry at them. How do we know this? Hebrews 3:10 says; "THEREFORE I WAS ANGRY WITH THIS GENERATION, AND SAID, 'THEY ALWAYS GO ASTRAY IN THEIR HEART, AND THEY DID NOT KNOW MY WAYS'; This brought the fear of God into our minds and hearts. Why? Because if they believed on the Passover lamb to save them from Egypt and we believe on Jesus Christ as our Passover lamb can we suffer the same fate as they did? It appears that even though they saw God's provisions and were given His laws they chose not to study them to get to know the God of the Universe. WOW! We had better pay attention to the lessons contained in the Bible. Abram did the opposite. He obeyed God. Faith is a gift God gives us. But we must act on His word. Isn't this what the Children of Israel faced as well? Faith is obedience to God's word. That is why we are studying and applying it. If it weren't for His work in our lives, an eternal home is nonexistent! But we have hope in Jesus Christ We want to live a praiseworthy life to God. We please Him by trusting in Him even when we can't see through the trials. Join Ric and Mary Joyner in a podcast for pewsitters. Ep 32Exodus Chap 3 Part 1 Lessons from the Burning Bush

Exodus Chapter 3 Part 1 is a pivot point in the Exodus story of the Holy Bible. We are at the time and place that God is acting on fulfilling prophecy or rather a promise to Abraham 400 years before! God speaks and it happens. This is how we know the Bible is true! Prophecy is inherently related to the fulfillment of something God says will happen. Our God means what He says and as Kingdom people, we want to respond to His will and look to the reasons God is speaking, and for what purposes and to whom, and if there are outcomes our Savior is looking to create. The sons of Israel are in dire straits within Egypt. God is listening to their heart cries. Let us respond to His ways. Join our online bible study through our podcast for pewsitters. Do you know we are in a time of prophetic fulfillment for the last days? How can we line up with what God is doing? Let’s take a look at how Moses is responding to being confronted by God with an interesting sign…a burning bush! How can we respond as Moses did? Our bible study will focus on why the children of Israel are in the wilderness, and why there are applications for us today! The wilderness is dependence on God. The Hebrew word for wilderness contains the word DBAR. This word is used many times when God speaks. In fact, it is a name for God. Yahweh Speaks. Our Lord wants us to obey His word and will speak to us when we desire to get under His rule in our lives. Join Ric and Mary Joyner for Podcast for pewsitters to learn lessons from the burning bush. Ep 31Exodus Chap 2 Part 5 Pummeled by life

Ever feel pummeled? That life is throwing circumstances at you? Could these be trials and tests? If we put ourselves under the Kingdom of God seeking His will and to be pleasing to our King then these are indeed for our good. But what if we react wrongly or make a bad decision? What if a series of events start that you can’t stop and perhaps people reject you? Is God in this with you? This podcast is about Ric and Mary Joyner going through a pummeling time. Moses in Exodus 2 Part 5 has made a horrible decision to help God save the Hebrew people from Egypt. A major life change happens as a result. Ric and Mary experience several major life changes that hurt! Ever felt like this? Moses goes from “top of the world” to what appears to be the lowest job on Earth, and a new family, culture and leaving loved ones behind. This is painful, this is disorientating, this is sad. How will he ever recover? God is with Him. He is with us. Listen or watch with Ric and Mary how God moves for those who love Him and want to be Kingdom people. The bible study principle: "The Holy Bible invades our life" is real. We believe that God uses circumstances to reinforce what we are studying and thus is the reason for the pummeling! So the Lord is allowing you to experience the lessons of Scripture! And in the next few podcasts we will show you how this principle is working with people who decide to study the Holy Bible together especially as husband and wife. Ep 29Bible Study Step 2 Prayer and Obedience

We are like most people. We studied the bible to benefit ourselves. Our lives dramatically changed when we started to study to OBEY GOD. Christ laid down His will for God's will. Will we? (sorry for the pun). God will show us His purpose for our lives and give us the power to obey. Our lives will radically transform into becoming a disciple. A disciple is one who obeys the word of God. When you study, pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you. Here is a promise in 1 John 2:27 "As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him." Ep 27Exodus Chap 2 part 4 Moses Flees Egypt to Obey God. Will You?

Please help us keep bible study company free by supporting us: http://bit.ly/2RL9zT Our sound engineer said this excellent comment about the episode: "I enjoyed listening to it. The parallels of the journey out into wilderness are fascinating. It's something you have in the back of your head, but to think about it the way you guys are here just shows how deep it goes and how much we can learn from it beyond just being aware of the historical happenings." We discuss Kingdom truths that we can see today. For example, the women who came to the well were 7 in number, and they were daughters. In other words, they were a father's inheritance. So are we. 7 has specific ramifications in scripture, and the fact women took a lead role in the salvation of Moses in chapter 2 are clues. Women in Scripture represent redemption (as the Messiah would come through their seed). Our bible study principle is seeing the symbols of both the physical and the spiritual. God has a grand plan and we can be part of it if we line ourselves up with His purposes and take steps of faith to flee this world system called Egypt. Egypt is not in a far off place with pyramids. It is this world we live in which is growing more anti-Christ every day. We have hope for our redemption. Let's get busy being obedient to Scripture.

Ep 28Bible Study Step 1 Obey God vs Gain Knowledge

Please help us keep bible study company free by supporting us: http://bit.ly/2RL9zT You have heard it said: “Obedience is better than sacrifice” What is obedience to God? We were created in Gen 2 for the purpose of serving God. Our worship and ministry are to HIM ALONE. Just like Adam and Eve. He then put them in His garden. This garden contains His rules and His boundaries. He gave us free will. True love always is about choosing to love or not. God considers those who obey His Word…those who love Him. (John 14:15) Look at your own children. When they obey what you say and the boundaries you set for them, we swell with pride and want to do all we can to help them to achieve. But Adam and Eve chose not to obey the Word of God. We are Adam and Eve. We/They decided they would live their own life apart from dependence on God. This caused sin to enter the world and sin creates death and SEPARATION FROM GOD. Their "sin" affected billions of people and the entire Creation. Can we say that the original sin was disobedience to the Word of God? What hope do we have if they died because of their disobedience to the Word of God? They were separated from God...dead spiritually. We have a clue in John 3 that Christ said we must be born again. How? So this is our study and podcast. There are so many nuggets of biblical truth to help us obey. God answered a question we had of whether we as nonprofessionals would He speak to us? YES! Proverbs 1 says He is shouting to the world, yet we won't have the ability to hear Him if we are in the mindset of disobedience to God aka sin. Do we want to take that risk the only life we have to live to turn from the One Who created us? NO! Why study the Bible? We are all called to be disciples of Christ if we are born again and have accepted His sacrifice for our sin then then we are born new in our spirit and now can understand the Word of God. Christ is the Word of God. (John 1). As untrained professionals, how do we approach the Word of God to learn His ways? (Heb 3:10) The disciples were not trained bible teachers. So what was different about them? What can we learn from their lives and why did Christ's focus on them? With the help of the Holy Spirit, they obeyed His Word. (John 14:15) We can too. We need to change our approach from gaining knowledge ABOUT God to OBEDIENCE to God. Join us for Podcast for Pewsitters Bible Study Step 1 Obey God vs Gain Knowledge. Ep 26Exodus 29 Fear to Offend. Do your insides match your outsides?

Do we understand the fear of the Lord? What if the fear of the Lord is the fear to offend our Creator? We are made by God to serve Him and Him only. Exodus 29 begins with the garments given for the "call" of Aaron and his sons to serve the Lord in the tabernacle. The Lord gave Moses special instructions for the garments of Aaron and his sons. There was specific detail the skillful workers were required to follow. The garments in this chapter hold symbols for our own bodies. Each area of clothing, for example, our minds, are to be crowned with “holiness to the Lord”. (Eph 6) Everything we think about should become captive to Christ according to Paul. Our heart-life will be affected if our thought-life is not under the control of Christ and His Word (2 Cor 10:5). Does our inside match our outside (garments)? Christ said to follow me. He gave us His Word to obey. Follow Him means we do what He did which was subject Himself to the will of His Father. Will we obey like this? When we do, it shows faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Will we have a fear to offend Him? Wouldn't that begin a journey of wisdom if we approached all areas of life with "fear to offend" Him? And decided all areas of our life will be “in service” to Him and Him alone? Join us for our Podcast for Pewsitters, Fear to offend and does our inside match our outside? Ep 25Exodus 28:36-38 Are you a kingdom of God minded person?

We are studying the Bible in Exodus 28:36-38 where the pattern for the priestly garments was being discussed and came on the verses that were about Aaron's head coverings. The description had a symbolic detail that not only pointed to Christ but how we, as priests, were to focus our minds. We will serve what we think about. (Phil 4:6-8) Romans 12:1-2 1 “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” These verses show Aaron’s focus as a priest. Each piece of the garment is a spiritual principle that, if we obey, will lead us to a praiseworthy life to God. Are we Kingdom people? Who are they and what do they do? The first clue is obedience to God’s word which Moses was doing by responding to the pattern that God was showing him precisely as God revealed. Next God is teaching us symbolism in the priestly garments of how Christ would act and how we must follow Him too. This is important because Colossians 3:2 says; “Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.” His agenda is for our minds. We will eventually serve our thoughts. The gold plate with the "seal" of the ‘Holiness to the Lord’ is a powerful reminder of where our minds must be set because our hearts will soon follow. I struggle with reading the news and how bad things are getting. Meaning that it is almost scary where the entire world is headed in opposition to God’s principles. It truly is the ‘Days of Noah’ as Christ shared. And this worldly thinking causes some fear. I gently hear in these Scriptures; “get back to focus on Me and My Kingdom there is much to learn…let’s go and get walking!” Right. This is being a Kingdom person! These garment patterns will give us a clue of what our focus must be while we minister to the Lord and then how He ministers to the world. If we are ready for Him, He can use us. What if we have doubts? What if we are in the midst of trials? Where do we turn? Join us for Podcast for Pewsitters with Ric and Mary Joyner to discuss how to be a Kingdom person! Ep 24Exodus 28 What is our purpose in life? Minister to the Lord! And other musings!

Podcast For Pewsitters: We are discussing the priestly garments and how they point to Christ. What happened between Exodus 19 where God told Moses He wanted a Kingdom of priests and Exodus 28 where only Aaron was the High Priest? Something drastic changed. If God loves us the way we are, as some say, then we need to love Him for the way He is. This is His world and we are His servants. But, do we act the way we were made? Did you know we were not made to serve ourselves and our happiness? Did you know our purpose is to minister to God? Could what we desire be to our detriment unless it lines up with God's Will? Do we want to walk with Him and experience joy and peace and satisfaction in this rough, tumble and a hurtful world even if our life is crumbling? Yes! Why were the priestly garments even needed? What is God calling us to in Christ? Why did He suffer for us and die for us? Could it be we are criminals? Christ died a criminals death. Was this a picture to show us how bad sin is? Yes! No one likes this thought, but we do need to look in the mirror of our heart called the 10 commandments to see where we stack up. These are the 10 expectations of God. The "follow your feelings" society just doesn't cut it in the Kingdom of God. People are left hungry, empty and broken. But God is our Creator and He can make a way for us. What is it? We ask questions like why did Aaron get priestly garments and not Moses? Perhaps Moses was a model priest already? Moses heard God's voice and carried it out exactly. That is what priests did in the Old Testament and disciples do in the New. He was truly a servant of God. We have God's Word and we can be the same. We can say Moses was trained by God. We have the same opportunity. Will we take it? What is God trying to say to us with the tinkling bells and pomegranates? Where does all of this show up in the new testament? Why is there so much symbolism in the old testaments? Why can't people see the connection to symbolism? Could the gospels be a parallel picture of the Exodus? The Hebrews in the desert saw the pillar of fire and the cloud and how God miraculously provided for them, yet it says they did not believe! (Hebrews 3) WHAT! The people in the new testament saw the miracles and the Words of Christ as He spoke to them, yet many did not believe! Even some of the disciples doubted! (Matthew 28) What shall we do? Could obeying God produce faith? YES! One step toward Him, even if we are confused and unsure is an act of faith. It will even produce more faith! You will start to grow up in God. Let God help you with your pain, hurt and confusion. We asked a lot of questions, and this is exactly what we should do every time we approach scripture. Ep 23Israel Trip Part 2: Galilee Region, Jerusalem, Biblical Teaching at Sites and our Thoughts

We explore the area where Jesus had His ministry in the northern areas of Israel. But we head down to Jerusalem and explore biblical sites. We explore David's tomb, the valleys around Jerusalem and Dr. Baruch's teaching. We realize that the Bible is real history and God has an agenda which He will share with us if we are interested. We saw David's tomb, the pool of Bethesda, and the actual place where Pontius Pilate rendered judgment on Christ. There was not a dry eye in the place. Very moving emotionally. Ep 22Israel Trip Part 1 Why did we go? What did we see? And how it touch us?

In this episode, Ric and Mary Joyner of Bible Study Company discuss why they went to Israel. What did they see? And did how Israel and the tour touched them? Ric said: "It is fair to say that we left our hearts in Israel. We see why this country has been through so much as it literally is in the center of the world and where the trade routes went through for the entire known world. Was this an accident? Or does God have plans for lands, peoples and us? Psalm 24: 1 A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD'S, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it. 2 For He has founded it upon the seas And established it upon the rivers. As always we want to line up with His agenda not our own. This is why we study the bible. We are His creation and therefore we can choose to serve Him or ourselves. Which will it be?" Going to Israel was fraught with anxiety and safety concerns but we discovered that this was a false narrative. We went on tour with Dr. Baruch and Rivka Korman of loveisrael.org. This was a teaching tour. Meaning, that we would include tourist areas but also spend time teaching at specific spots to relate the Bible and God's agenda to the land. It was over the top good. Loveisrael.org is having another tour in 2019. Their website has details. So join us for a time of discussion in this podcast about our trip for part 1. Two pew-sitters who are studying the Bible using principles Dr. Korman taught us and we went to actually see the Holy Land! WOW!

Ep 21The Lord's Prayer

Have you ever thought there might be more to the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9? Our mission is to obey the Word of God which is the Bible. To be a disciple of Christ, we are to follow Him. The Lord has just given the “Sermon on the Mount” in Matthew 5, which is how we should respond to the ten commandments if we want to live a praiseworthy life to God. Christ gives a picture of a person’s heart who is convicted of sin by encountering the ten commandments and is now asking for God’s help to change. In chapter 6, the Lord is showing us, now what our responding to His call looks like in daily life as we live out His words. Then He shows us how to pray. In Verse 7, He starts out by saying: 7 "And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. 8 "So do not be like them; for your, Father knows what you need before you ask Him.” (NASB) So we asked ourselves why do we pray the Lord’s prayer as meaningless repetition? Is there more to this prayer than how we were taught in church? We believe yes, and thus could it be an outline for us to follow? For years we have broken this prayer down and spent time walking outside or praying in a quiet place to spend time on each part of the outline. As a couple, we will use this as an outline when we pray together. Great relationship building with the Lord has occurred. We want to caution that this is no formula because this is how Christ said to pray. Faith is acting on God’s word. And if you look closely at the whole prayer, it is indeed an outline, and each part of it takes time. Join Ric and Mary Joyner in their podcast for Pewsitters spending time on each part of this prayer. Let us know what you think. Open Matthew 6:9 and read along with us. Ep 20Where are Ric and Mary Joyner? Back from Israel.

We are home from Israel after being on a study tour with Dr. Baruch Korman of Loveisrael.org. The tour was a treasure of experiences causing the Bible to come alive. We felt we were in "God's home" and we could literally see prophecy fulfilled. We were able to experience the peoples' daily lives and how God cared for them. But "daily circumstances" invaded our lives too once we returned home. This podcast is about why there were no podcasts to continue our study of Exodus and what "other things" happened in our life. Ep 19Exodus Chapter 2 Part 3 Moses decides to follow God, will you?

Our podcast and Exodus Chapter 2 has several moving parts. Since Exodus is a factual narrative, we need to “read” between the lines, so to speak, to find out what God is asking us to “see” so that we may act appropriately. What are the lessons? Why did the Israelites go into slavery in Egypt? Mary and I believe this question is highly important and relevant to today’s Christianity. The answer lies in Jeremiah 2. We can go into slavery as God’s people by not living according to His Word. One of the themes of Exodus is dependence on God. So how do we get into bondage in this modern world? And that is the biblical study principle of application. How does God want us to look at the story and get the lessons within it for our lives? We are in Exodus 2 Part 3 where Moses is now older and is deciding there is another call on his life. He makes some choices that cause an irrevocable decision. Moses, although acting on the promises of God to Abraham, takes the situation into his own hands rather than waiting on God and is forced to flee. But there is much more going on in this story. Through word studies, we will see the lessons God wishes to teach us, and we will see that symbolism in the old testament foreshadows Christ! Please listen and comment below. Ep 18Exodus Chapter 2 Part 2 What is faith? Who are kingdom minded people?

Have you ever wondered why Exodus is a picture of our Christian walk with Christ? Or why this incredible story is a part of the Jewish nation's history? Could it be about people acting in faith? We need faith to believe in God. Or do we? Is there more to faith than just believing? What if actions play a role? What is biblical faith and why does it matter? There are two undercurrents in the storyline that God wants to reveal to us. One has to do with faith and the other being Kingdom minded. In this Podcast called “Faith and Kingdom people," we will see men and women operating for God or against His agenda. What type of people will WE be? Ep 15Exodus Chapter 2 Part 1 God cares about every detail of our lives.

Chapter 2 Part 1 has several moving parts. A Marriage, the birth of Moses, saving of Moses and after Moses grows up he kills an Egyptian. This story is a factual narrative. A type of literature that leaves out many details of the person's life but just presents the facts. Almost like a checklist. But then we are left to fill in the blanks. The "blanks" are what our focus will be because God has many truths to teach us in the lives of people. Keep in the back of your mind that you are part of the story because your story is being written now. We don't see the end of our story, but God does. What is profound about the story in Chapter 2 is that the "heat turns up" on the Hebrews as the time for deliverance approaches. Who is doing the oppressing and what are the results? We should ask questions like: "If You love us, Lord why are we suffering"? How do we get through suffering? Can we "lean into" God when we are suffering? Let's listen to Ric and Mary Joyner discussing chapter 2 part 1. Ep 14Exodus Chapter 1 Part 3 How do we stand in the face of fear?

We are still in Chapter 1 and reading about some very brave Hebrew midwives who were told by Pharaoh to kill the Hebrew children. They disobey Pharaoh. WHOA, drama and tension heat up the story! They are called to provide an explanation to Pharaoh! Have you ever faced a fear that could end your life? The midwives did. But they chose the fear of the Lord over the fear of Pharaoh. They let God handle the outcome. At Biblestudycompany.com we feel it is easy to understand the fear of the Lord. It is not a cowering fear; it is the “fear to offend Him”. In this case, the midwives were protecting God’s Children from a wicked man. When things look the darkest, God is in control and we can learn either to complain, blame or turn and worship God for His future outcome. We want to live a praiseworthy life, so we respond by choosing the fear of the Lord and worship Him with thanksgiving in the midst of our fears and trials. We are also exploring the sufferings of the Hebrews and how they got into slavery. We finish Exodus Chapter 1 with Pharaoh brutalizing the Hebrews. In addition, we are starting to look at several tools in our approach to scripture. A tool we love to use is immersion. Simply stated, we are immersing ourselves in the lives of the Hebrews. They will react like we would if we were threatened, for example. We are no longer viewing the biblical as stories for children, but real people in extraordinary situations for our instruction. By taking this approach the Bible now comes alive with richness, drama, and depth. Join us and tell us what you think in the blog or on Facebook. Ep 13How did the Hebrews get into slavery?

Ric and Mary Joyner explore, Exodus 1 Part 2 which discusses the Hebrews entering a crisis of faith and fear called slavery that will last almost 80 years. This is a harsh reality. How did the Hebrews go from high stature in Egypt under Joseph to being brutalized? What happened? The story may surprise you, which the Bible so often does, that there are patterns and principles that affect us today! Ep 12Is God really in control of our lives?

Is Exodus a symbol of our walk with Christ? Ric and Mary Joyner of Biblestudycompany.com start our Exodus study asking God questions. As Pewsitters we are not trained in Bible study. Will God still speak to us through His Word? Why did the Hebrews go into slavery? How do we respond to God? Let’s take a different approach to the bible. What if we change our focus to finding out what God’s agenda is for our lives? Are we not in a relationship with Him? The intimacy we have with people in our lives is in direct proportion to the time and knowledge of the person. The disciples had a close relationship with the Lord. We are called to be disciples so we can carry out His Will. And now we are going to open our bible study with Exodus Chapter 1 discussing the methods and principles we learned from Dr. Baruch Korman of Loveisrael.org. Join us in discovering intimacy with our Creator and how to respond.

Ep 11What is the Kingdom of God? Interview with Dr. Baruch of Loveisrael.org

What is the Kingdom of God? How do we find it? How should we respond? Dr. Baruch of Loveisrael.org and Ric Joyner of Biblestudycompany.com are discussing this very topic on the latest Podcast for Pew-sitters. Coming to an understanding of the Kingdom of God is vitally important to us as believers. Christ came as a King and He said to Pilate, just before the crucifixion for our sins, that “My Kingdom is not of this world….” We can read a scripture and take the meaning for granted. At Loveisrael and Biblestudycompany, our mission is read scripture to find God’s agenda as our Creator. Thus, everything in this world is made by Him and for His glory. We want to see His plan and will for our lives so that we too can live a praiseworthy life to God. Why should we seek to find the Kingdom of God? Come with us as we ask these questions. Ep 10Exodus 25 and 26 Are we following God's pattern?

Ric and Mary Joyner discuss Exodus 25 and 26 where God commands Moses several times to follow the pattern. Ex:25:40 "See that you make them after the pattern for them, which was shown to you on the mountain." (NASB) The symbolism in this verse is plentiful, and you should take the time to dig into the symbols using biblestudycompany tools. But we see two things God does when building the tabernacle. He speaks to us from Heaven and then asks us to follow the pattern carefully. What is the pattern? We discuss what this pattern is during the podcast. Please join us. In fact, the reason for this podcast is to set the stage for studying Exodus with two pew-sitters; Ric and Mary. We need to understand that studying scripture is a pattern given to us from Heaven. Ultimately Christ is the pattern for us to follow. But we begin the pattern with God speaking to us, and we need to have hearts willing to implement His truth in our lives. Look at Exodus 3 and God moving to draw Moses. He was unwilling to take on the role God gave him at the burning bush, but now in Exodus 25-26, we see Moses being careful to follow the pattern. Listen to the podcast and see what you think. Can we pay close attention to what God says because we were all made to serve Him? We are His creation. Many scriptures verify this truth. Can we become skillful workmen and women in studying the bible? Is our heart willing? Can we be honest enough to admit we might not want the task? Or are unsure of ourselves? What if we have tried and got nothing out of the bible? Or there is too much to learn? Whatever the reason for not studying, will you join us and be willing? Ask the Lord to help you, we did, and we are changed in unexpected ways. Ep 9First bible study! Interview with Erin and Pete Janus oneflesh4jesus.com

Exodus is a key book to start our study of the bible using Bible Study Company tools. It shows the Hebrews believing in the Passover lamb and salvation from Egypt slavery and bondage. We learn that Egypt is the world system ruled by a Pharaoh who is bent on killing the Hebrews, stealing their labor and enslaving them harshly. This sounds like the "god of this world (the devil)" and what we face daily. Even if we ask Christ into our hearts, we will go into the wilderness after believing in the Messiah as the Passover lamb. Or will we? It was a choice to leave Egypt because God made the way and it is a choice for us to leave the world system. Exodus is symbolic in God's plan for us and what happens after we believe in the Passover Lamb. Christ is our Passover lamb. God is a promise keeping God. Erin and Pete Janus are new to bible study and are coming into the podcast to learn. Grab your favorite beverage and open up biblestudycompany.com and study with us. We will discover topics like: Why send the Hebrews into the wilderness? How bad IS the wilderness? How will we survive? What does Egypt mean? Some important metaphors develop: Souls, beit or house, Egypt, Wilderness, tent, complaining, manna etc. and how it helps us see God's agenda in our modern lives. Come join us as we explore how to study the bible and look for ways we can find God's agenda and then choose to live a praiseworthy life to Him. His Agenda not ours.

Ep 6What is Bible Study? What should be our approach?

Most of us are what we at Biblestudycompany.com call "pew-sitters". We are not professionals at studying scripture. Good news. The disciples weren't either. Did you know that when Christ sent us the Holy Spirit, He will teach us? Do you have to be an ancient languages expert? No! Do you need advanced degrees to study the bible? No! Biblestudycompany.com can research the languages and definitions and does all that for you with a click of a button or finger push. Join Ric Joyner interviewing Dr. Korman of Loveisrael.org to learn how to study the Bible and what methods work well. It takes a willing heart praying for the Holy Spirit to open up the Word to us. The Holy Spirit is sent to teach us and bring order into our lives through God's Word. Let's shift our focus from knowledge about the Bible to knowledge about Him and His agenda for our lives. Lord, we pray for your will to come. Come follow Jesus by studying His word!

Ep 4From New Age to Christ. Do all "paths" lead to God? Listen to Podcast Part 1 to find out!

Growing up in church doesn’t guarantee a relationship with Christ. Here is a story of Erin and Pete Janus who grew up in Christian homes but found religion versus a relationship. Religion can be dry and not satisfying. So they sought after a more “universal” path which took them on a search that led them to many gods and religious experiences. Occult practices, positive thinking projection and the study of other eastern thought showed them that it led not to “enlightenment” but darkness. A simple question to God, that if He was real and that if Christ was the Son of God, brought a new and fresh revelation of who Christ really is. The awareness of God’s presence brought excitement and their realization that “all paths actually led away from the True God and His Son Jesus Christ”. Listen to Podcast 1 to see the build-up to the revelation, how Erin challenged God and how He responded to her sincere prayer and the startling changes that they both experienced. Praying Christian parents can have hope for their adult children. Ep 2Depending on God

Ric and Mary Joyner of Bible Study Company take you on a journey of discovery. Can we depend solely on God? What does that mean? What about people and churches? Churches can wound people. People wound people. Is that something God wants for His people? We are studying Scripture to find out what pleases God and act on that. We aren’t looking for formulas. Performance and formula-driven people fill churches and companies. Is God looking for performers? We are all broken pottery. By spending time with the Lord, we get filled to the brim and then we “leak” out to the world around us. Ric tends toward formulas and performance for approval and Mary is grounded in the knowledge that she is loved because she is part of her organic family. You are part of God’s organic family! He is looking for a relationship with us. Grab your favorite cup of “joe,” or your favorite beverage. We can travel together because God is not a formula! He is a deep relationship.
