S4 Ep 333333. The Adam Triple A. Adams: Grow Your Show Through Fatherhood, Podcasting, and Entrepreneurship
EWhat steps can we take to enhance our connections with health, family, and work, and how can we foster personal growth and development as individuals? In this installment of Better Call Daddy, our special guest Adam A. Adams explores the captivating realm of podcasting and the concept of recruiting a team to achieve greater efficiency while working fewer hours. He highlights the importance of not solely focusing on asking sequential questions during interviews, but rather diving deeper through active listening and asking follow-up questions, similar to a doctor's approach. This approach allows the interviewee to feel heard and understood, enhancing the credibility and effectiveness of the conversation. Adam also shares his own journey in podcasting, emphasizing the value of genuinely caring about the struggles of others and striving to help them rather than focusing solely on personal gain. He eloquently advises sharing information and experiences to maximize impact and attract potential investors. Furthermore, the episode explores the significant role podcasting plays in raising funds for various ventures. Adam sheds light on how consistently putting out content and utilizing social media platforms, such as hosting a podcast, can open doors to valuable opportunities. He even shares personal stories of individuals who struggled to secure funds for deals until they started podcasting, thereby attracting the majority of the funding. Moreover, Adam's expertise extends to the multifamily real estate investing space. He emphasizes the importance of having someone with experience when investing in these properties to mitigate the high risk of failure. He discusses underwriting deals and evaluating their profitability, touching on important financial terms cash flow, and net operating income. Additionally, Adam highlights the impact of market conditions, such as interest rates, on the sale and refinancing of properties. In a more personal context, Adam shares childhood experiences working on his stepdad's tree farm, emphasizing the values of saving, investing, and paying oneself first. He also talks about the positive changes he has made in his life, prioritizing his relationships and health over work. Through regular exercise and designated family nights, Adam has sought to strengthen his bond with his children and repair relationships. Overall, this episode provides valuable insights into the world of podcasting, the power of genuine connection, and the importance of balancing personal and professional priorities. S4 Ep 331331. From Podcaster to Matchmaker: Bruce Chamoff’s Vision for Podcast Networking
The statement "Daddies don't know everything" is a powerful reminder that parents, including fathers, are not infallible and cannot be expected to have all the answers. It acknowledges that there are inherent communication and generational gaps between parents and their children and that children have their own unique interests, preferences, and paths to follow in life. This realization typically dawns on parents as their children grow and start to assert their independence. It becomes evident that children cannot learn everything they need to know solely by watching their parents or by following their parents' guidance. Instead, children need the freedom to explore their own interests and make their own choices. The message encourages parents to expose their children to various experiences, hobbies, and interests, without imposing their own preferences or expectations. By doing so, parents can help their children discover their own passions and talents, fostering individuality and personal growth. Bruce Chamoff, the guest of the podcast episode, embodies this message as a father and as a founder of the World Podcast Network. In fact, he coined the term podcast network. His diverse background as a marketing visionary and software developer demonstrates the importance of allowing children to follow their own paths rather than trying to dictate their choices. The podcast episode delves into various aspects of Bruce Chamoff's life, including his approach to podcasting, building authentic connections with audiences, and leaving a lasting legacy. It highlights the value of finding one's own way in life and the power of connecting with others through shared interests and experiences. The episode also mentions the book "The Do It Yourself Guide" by Todd Cochrane, which likely provides valuable insights into the world of podcasting. Overall, the episode and the message "Daddies don't know everything" emphasize the importance of nurturing individuality and allowing children to explore and choose their own paths in life, while also highlighting the significance of authentic connections and leaving a meaningful legacy. Panagiotu, the CAP in CAPitalize, was introduced to investing at the tender age of 10. Fast forward to 18 and he accepted an internship at one of the largest wire house firms in the world, UBS. After three quick years of college at the University of Oregon, something was not sitting right with him, so he joined Morgan Stanley for a short stint where he quickly realized corporate life was not in his wheelhouse. Chris was extremely blessed to have discovered Lucia Capital Group and in 2015 he began his journey to grow what is now CAPitalize Your Finances. In his nearly seven years at Lucia Capital Group, Chris built his practice from scratch, going from $0 to nearly $100M in that time span. Chris is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM Professional and a Certified and Chartered Retirement Plans SpecialistSM (CRPS®, conferred by the College for Financial Planning). He holds the following licenses with LPL Financial: series 7, and series 66. In 2020, Chris was recognized as a Five Star Wealth Manager* by the Seattle Times. Chris is the original CAPitalizer: one who is absolutely obsessed with profoundly understanding what there is to know about their passion. This translates to a striving push to perfection for clients’ outcomes and although there is no such thing as perfect, a CAPitalizer does not need to justify their knowledge with big words from Wall Street, complicated graphs, charts, or talking over people. A CAPitalizer wins based on loyalty, stewardship, and unwavering commitment to their family, friends, clients, and colleagues, which results in the overall growth and positivity within the CAPitalizer’s community. This is what Chris is all about. Outside of the office, Chris hosts the podcast “CAPitalize” (available on Spotify), roots for his Oregon Ducks, and most importantly, loves spending time with his wife, Stephanie. S4 Ep 324324. Ignorance Was Bliss: Unraveling the Psychiatric Puzzle: Kate Wallinga
EWelcome back to another episode of Better Call Daddy! Today, we have a powerful and deeply personal story that explores themes of obsession, trauma, mental health, and the complexities of family dynamics. In this episode with Kate Wallinga, our speaker takes us on a journey through her experience as a psychologist, a parent, and a grieving individual. We delve into her encounters with a patient who stalked their professor, the challenges of diagnosing and dealing with manipulative behavior, and the weighty decision to cut off ties with their own mother. We also explore the importance of support systems, the impact of negative experiences on personal growth, and the difficult process of grieving a loved one who died by suicide. Get ready for a raw and thought-provoking conversation as we dive deep into the complexities of human relationships, personal struggles, and finding strength in the face of adversity. So, grab your headphones and get ready for Better Call Daddy: The Safe Space for Controversy. Kate Wallinga is the host of Ignorance Was Bliss podcast. This is a podcast about how we become who we are — about making just about anything sound normal, from PTSD to podcasting to serial murder. It’s about people’s stories. Are you sure you really want to know? Kate spent her entire professional life in the fields of mental health and criminal justice. Her favorite, hardest and most important work was specifically in the fields of correctional psych, forensic psych, and crisis assessment. She grew up in upstate New York, and went to college near the Canadian border; her first psych internship was actually immediately next to the bridge between Ogdensburg, NY and Johnstown, ON. After that, she studied criminal justice and mental health counseling in Boston, then spent several years in New Hampshire. She’s worked in the NH State Prison system, a couple of different locked psychiatric facilities, and then several emergency rooms and eventually all manner of community settings. Kate broke her back in 2014, and while she can move around a whole lot better than she could then, she still often feels stuck, as an acquaintance once pointed out, sitting on her couch listening to true crime podcasts all day. One thing I’ve noticed is that, quite often, she would hear someone ask, “But why would he do that?” or, “How could that happen?” or, her personal favorite, “Well, that’s crazy. That could never happen to me.” After a while of talking back, alone, long after they had moved on to new things, she decided to give the podcasting thing a try. She does give some background, of course, but she’s not trying to create a deep-dive, detailed, narrative style podcast. That has already been done, brilliantly, by so many people she admires. She can’t see any reason to try and compete with them, or even just add to the noise, when she already cannot find enough hours in the day to listen to everything she’d like to hear. Her goal, instead, is to try and answer some of those questions, at least from her own perspective. She doesn’t pretend to have all, or even most, of the answers… but she can usually come up with one or two. Over time, the focus of her show has widened to include the normal, the average, the ordinary, that all of us can understand… but we continue to think of ourselves as somehow screwed up, weird, wrong. We’re not. You’re not. Honest. Just make sure you really want to know. Because the most important certainty I carry, from all my time working with inmates and patients and onlookers, is that the only real difference between “us” and “them” is a key. And that everything we experience, from crippling anxiety to serial murder, is maybe not rational, but there is a logic to it. Kate can make things understandable. And once you learn just how easy it can be to fall into the darker parts of life, you might think,”…I felt better before I knew that.” Because sometimes… Ignorance Was Bliss. His boss once had someone pushing an interview with an American Idol contestant. He didn’t want to do the interview. S4 Ep 318318. Collecting Real Items & Relationships: Shirley Yu Founder of Choosii
In this episode of Better Call Daddy, we explore the captivating realm of collecting and safeguarding objects with significant meanings and the intriguing narratives that accompany them. Together with fellow podcaster Alicia Araujo-Elatassi, from Vibes by Alicia podcast, I embarked on a collaborative interview with the Founder of the Choosii app, Shirley Yu. Shirley and I established a connection via Twitter, and when Alicia discovered the subject matter, she eagerly jumped on board. After all, who doesn't know someone with a penchant for collecting? As a former photographer, Shirley understands the value of storytelling and emotional connection in a consumer-driven world that often prioritizes quantity over quality. We explore the shift towards appreciating artisanal and tangible products, emphasizing the desire for emotional attachment and learning the story behind brands. The episode takes an exciting turn when Shirley discusses the idea of social collaboration within collecting communities. She suggests that by collaborating and sharing knowledge, collectors can enhance their collections and ensure the items find appreciative new homes. The concept of connecting collectors through technology is explored, with our speaker sharing insights from her own app designed to help collectors find meaningful connections and discover hidden subgroups within larger collecting communities. Personal stories and memories also come to the forefront, as Shirley recounts her early experiences living with grandparents in China, surrounded by scientific backgrounds and a love for stamp collecting and photography. These childhood memories, as well as the preservation of their grandpa's stamp collection, hold great significance, who believes that the true value of an item lies in the memories and connections it holds, rather than its monetary worth. Throughout the episode, Shirley reflects on the power of names and identity. She shares her own collection, appropriately named the Shirley Collection, which includes items that hold contextual stories, such as clothes with their name sewn in by their grandmother. The importance of knowing and embracing one's own name is a lesson passed down from their grandparents. As always, Better Call Daddy uncovers the hidden gems and stories behind everyday experiences. Michelle emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and the power of metaphysics to understand oneself. She believes in the power of thoughts and affirmations to manifest desires and emphasizes the need to shield oneself from negative energy and stimulating external factors. Michelle advocates for non-attachment and transparency in dealing with grief and attachment. Lastly, she expresses her journey and challenges in finding mentors for her cultural background. Michelle Manu is internationally known for her accomplishments as a 10th Degree Black Belt, Alihikaua(General), and Kumu Lua(teacher) of the indigenous Hawai’ian cultural practice and martial, the Lua (Kaihewalu and Manu lineages). S4 Ep 304304. Caveman Feet With A Barefoot Beat. Yoshua Greenfield
EWhat’s it like to be a content creator? Today we are talking to a former celebrity chef, reality tv show cohost of Brothers Green, who once dreamed of being a rockstar. Yoshua Greenfield says at first it’s exciting then you start to feel like a caged animal. You have to break down who you are and who you think you are. Parents go through their own process of figuring things out as well! Today we are talking about the death of the ego, understanding who we are, and what we project. Not all barefoot people are the same! Better Call Daddy: The Safe Space For Controversy. After moving to Brooklyn to pursue a life as a musician and rock star Yoshua fell into a terrible depression, lost his way and began feeling as though life was empty and meaningless, even considered ending it all. Through a weird and wonderful twist of fate, he fell upon a series of teachings that showed him that he wasn’t crazy but rather starting to wake up to the true nature of reality. He saw that he wasn’t depressed, but was experiencing a deep inner state of rest (deep-rest), his soul desperately seeking a break from the character he had been playing. Having nearly no previous understanding of the “spiritual path,” and only a desire to burn all that was false to the ground, he began shedding all of the lies and conditioned belief holding him in fear and began to see what it meant to live life in tune with clarity and truth—in harmony with all. As life is often filled with surprises, the universe began pointing Yoshua in a rather interesting direction which led him to creating an alternative cooking show with his brother and getting signed to a major TV deal where he traveled the world and went on adventures cooking for celebrities. Excited by these new possibilities but feeling conflicted to be amongst a world of wealth and corporate greed, Yoshua began seeing the character he was creating to deal with it all and after seven years of garnering a success he had never dreamed of, he(metaphorically speaking) burnt the house down and was finally free of any perceived self and began focusing on the work he has been doing for the last many years—guiding others that have already woken up from the Matrix and supporting them to live life beyond fear. For the past ten years Yoshua has also studied the ancient art of sound healing and has been guiding people to unlock their innate musical gifts and experience music as a form of connection and vibrational healing. He hosts song circles as a way to bring about connection amongst fellow humans and has been creating improvised music with one of his favorite bands Yaima and has performed with them on a number of occasions. He also teaches people how to develop a clear and conscious relationship to the foods they consume and how mindful eating can support all areas of your life. He hasn’t worn shoes in three years and can’t get enough of telling people about the glorious benefits of living a more barefoot forward life. Yoshua has studied a variety of different healing practices and resonates mostly with Zen Buddhism and Non-Duality as he has seen how they can help anyone make sense of all aspects of life and live in the present, creating a life of your own design. He has written a series of 5 books that delve into the simple concept of taking off the false self to uncover who you really are through a variety of mediums—cooking, music, mindful conversations and living barefoot. Yoshua is merely a reflection of what is possible when you live outside of fear, connected to all the gloriousness that is. From this place there are no levels of hierarchy, no destination to get to, from this place all makes perfect sense when we realize who we truly are. Shout out Benoit Kim for the intro! Transcript @podtexts on Twitter Reena Friedman Watts: Okay, so since you gave me an option in the beginning of which direction we wanted to go, would you rather go with questions from your friends or mine? Benoit Kim: Oh wow. You said, friends? Plural? Doesn't matter. Whatever's the juiciest. Reena: Juiciest are always who knows you better, right? Benoit: True. Yes, we'll start with friends. Speaking of memory lane. Reena: Yes. Okay, so let's go with Tony. How do you pronounce his last name? Is it Mena? Benoit: Mena. Yes. Reena: I was right. Okay, so Tony wanted to know, and I know you were recently on a Christian retreat, he wanted to know what motivates you to work for nonprofits or what motivates you to have a service-oriented career. Benoit: I love choosing the broke poor life, just kidding, but I think that we all have to choose our path in life and a lot of that is attributable to my parents' genetics. It's not necessarily cultivated. I think I had the privilege to exposure to six figure salary early on at age 21, 22, straight out of college into management consulting realm. I saw the rat race, I saw how miserable so many people were, and I remember this viscerally like yesterday where one of the partners, managing partners at Deloitte at the time, he was taking us out. He rented out the entire bar at Penn State for entrance to show us woo woos with that golden handcuffs. He got pretty drunk and I asked him a question, as I always do even before podcasting, that, "Hey, is that worth it? Is it worth making that $500,000, $600,000 salary plus vesting options?" He started being tearful. He straight up started crying. A grown-ass man in his 50s. He said that "I miss my firstborn. I didn't held him in the hospital. I wasn't with my wife. I missed my 10 year anniversary with my wife. I missed out on so many birthdays because the duty calls, and to get to that level comes with tremendous sacrifices." That story stuck with me, and then once I started to work as a management consultant I realized, "Wow, this is not the life I wanted." I always wanted to do something altruistic, even though I don't believe in altruism because there's always that feedback of feeling good, but I do believe in effective altruism, and I chose the path of nonprofit and giving back, and I always check myself. I'm not a savior. I'm not better than other people. Some people find money intrinsically incentivizing and they like money intrinsically. For me, intrinsically I like making impact and creating this legacy, and at the end of the day it's just a job and it's just a personal calling. Reena: When did you realize that? Benoit: The first few years in the nonprofit sector, I think I definitely had this extra chip on my shoulder that, "Oh look at me, I'm creating this impact. I'm parting t

S3 Ep 296296. Is Hell A Scare Tactic? Alex Parkview
EWhat are the basic beliefs of satanism? How do you get to hell? What is unforgivable? What is blasphemy? Alex Parkview was raised Roman Catholic, did the sacraments, but his dad was closest to a Buddhist. His dad wanted him to have a moral background. Alex feels like his "A Twist Of Faith" podcast is his calling to make people think about things they don’t normally think about just like his dad did after sermons. He tried him help him understand the Bible even though they didn’t get to church together. Better Call Daddy: The Safe Place For Controversy. There are no atheists in a Fox hole! 27 months in IRAQ! Alex says you do away with emotions and recruiters lie! "His podcast is an in-depth but modernized and simplified look at as many different religions/spiritual ideologies. To advocate for the nonbeliever in an attempt to help them understand and apply their chosen set of beliefs in a world dead set on pigeonholing them. Also, a realistic look at some popular religious myths all backed by scripture from the teachings of whichever religion said myth pertains to." S3 Ep 292292. Toxic Desi Culture - Aradhana KH
EAre you happy with where you’re at in life? Are you comfortable in your own skin? Did you feel pressured to get married or to marry within your faith? Living up to others standards doesn’t work! Aradhana is 32 years old, born and raised in Southern California. She's a Clinical Social Worker by day and mental health/ lifestyle influencer by night. She struggles with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. She was raised in a strict South Asian household and because of that her anxiety was often disregarded as “being a cry baby or uninterested”. Her parents tried hard to mold her into the “Typical Indian Child”, however each time they did it would cause her Anxiety to worsen. It wasn’t until she got to college that she got any form of validation for her Anxiety. She started to take basic Psychology courses and learned about Anxiety and what it looked like. That was when she realized she struggled with a mental illness and that she wasn’t a “failure of an Indian”. She realized that a lot of her Anxiety came from the Desi Culture and the expectations that are placed on them. She went on to become a Social Worker in the hopes of shedding light on Mental Health in the South Asian community. That was how Aradhana’s World came about, she created this platform where she talks about the “Toxic Desi Culture” that so many of us have been raised in. She will be starting a podcast called Di NOT Aunty where she sheds light on different toxic traits from the Desi Community. She's hoping by having a platform like this she will provide South Asian’s a place where they are validated and where they know that they are not “disobedient/bad Indians” where they can see that their differences are celebrated and welcomed. She's a daddy’s girl. Her dad has been a huge advocate of her Anxiety and though he struggled with coping with her Anxiety at times he helped her empower herself and remind herself that though she's not the “perfect Indian child” she's someone who has proven at each adversity that she's worth fighting for.
