Alison Butterworth stands up for Manchester on BBC Radio 2 and occasionally lets Jeremy Vine get a word in edgeways. Alison who presents BBC Radio Manchester's Breakfast Programme was a guest on the programme along with other local radio presenters from the North of England, discussing whether George Osborne's Northern Powerhouse is a good thing. She followed Simon Hobart, BBC Radio Merseyside's Drivetime presenter.

Homeless protesters in Manchester
Homeless protesters who've been camping out in Manchester's St Peter's Square go to the High Court later, to fight an eviction notice. The campaigners were originally in the nearby Albert Square - but were evicted from there two weeks ago. Hear from one of the protestors Joanne who has no-where to live - and normally sleeps on the street. She says the protest has been worth it. Manchester City Council say: "The conduct of some members of this camp has been entirely inappropriate - in a public area used by families. Members of the camp have daubed offensive graffiti on the Town Hall Extension. There's also been public urination, street drinking, litter and loud music being played". Jonathan Ali reports for BBC Radio Manchester.

Josie's story:
12 years ago, Josie's husband Ian was a compulsive gambler. He came close to losing their house on a couple of occasions, and at one point, he nearly took his own life. Ian got help from Gamblers Anonymous and with Josie's support, has rebuilt his life. He's been 7 years free of gambling and life couldn't be more different for them. This is a letter that Josie wrote to Gamblers Anonymous to say thanks for their help. The letter is read by an actress.
Ian's story:
12 years ago, Ian from Timperley was struggling with an addiction that had such a hold on him, he came very close to losing his wife, his family - even his life. It's not an addiction that's talked about very much. Ian was a compulsive gambler. He stopped 7 years ago. Ian's decided to tell you his story - because he wants to help you, if you also have a problem.
