Also there's a red hulk? and a surprisingly large amount of old dudes? Honestly I'm not even fully sure what is going on anymore but the point is we saw Captain America the one where he's a bird, so let's talk about I guess. Time for another fun horse fact! Superman, like Baseless Speculation, is back baby! His big S stands for hope and that's exactly what we all are for this film! The boys are a big fan of Corenswet as a name, are a little afraid of anyone named Lachlan, especially if they're a lawyer and get lost in the blitz riff. Zammit still has faith in Gunn, Jackson is excited that Superman is doing something different and JD has a very special message for all those Snyder fans. Will this film be good? Will the audience go see it? Will it crack a billy? We don't know, the only thing we do know is that this was definitely recorded in 2025.It's a new year, we're branching out from apes into horses (just like how I assume evolution did?) so this weeks horse face is that horses cannot burp or vomit. Their throat sphincter is just too strong. If it was any weaker they'd vomit every time they went for a run which would just be an incredible thing to watch. Kraven producer Matt Tolmach said they were "excited about [Kraven] and Christmas is the best release period there is, when you get people with time to go back to the movies over and over again. That was a real reflection of how the studio felt about the movie. We're really excited. But that's a great move that reflects just the feeling about the movie". Was he right? It's part 2 of the now I assume world famous two part d23 episode of Baseless Speculation. This time the boys are tackling all the animation anouncements, including a huge slate of sequels to classic Pixar and Disney films we all know and love. Toy Story 5 looks to be pretty good, as does the incredibles 3 probably.There's also a pixar tv show (Win or Lose) coming that looks pretty cute, and another one (Dream Factory) that seems mostly confusing. Disney also announced Frozen 3 and Moana 2, which could be good. Finally, there's Mufasa, a prequel to the Lion King that makes all the boys sick when they look at it. Also Jackson has an alarm for Spaghetti on his phone, for 8am. Before that though, Deadpool and Wolverine made a billy (and then some) so it's time to talk Zoos and make enemies. With that out of the way, let's see what Disney's got on the slate for the next couple of years. Tron's back, so is Freaky Friday for some reason, and David Blaine is doing magic still. Star Wars promises some future highs (Andor, Skeleton Crew) and possible crushing lows (Grogu and the Mandalorian). The MCU is still pumping out content with the new Daredevil: Born Again and Agatha All Along on the horizon. Most exciting of all, Avatar 3: Fire and Ash is coming, that's extremely exciting. For everyone.Did you know that in the live action remake of The Jungle Book, they made King Louie a Gigantopithecus instead of an orangutan as orangutans are not native to India and the film makers wanted it to be authentic as possible! The boys are a little tired from Deadpool & Wolverine but surely all the news that’s come out of Hall H in San Diego Comic-Con will perk them up?! We got a bit more about Fantastic Four that’s not soul crushing and we finally found out who Giancarlo Esposito is playing in Cappy America: Please Ignore Real World Geo-Political Events. Are we excited for any of this? Time will tell (no).Apparently only like, five days ago, chimpanzees may be capable of learning human-like words. Scientists watched some controversial footage of chimpanzees and they reckon they can do it with one saying “[g]reat apes can produce human words; the failure to demonstrate this half a century ago was the fault of the researchers, not the animals”. Immediately distracted, JD cannot be trusted to look at a laptop when discussing Captain America: Brave New World. A film that used to be called New World Order but that big rat quickly backpaddled on that one. It seems the rat is trying really hard to not be political and avoid anything that could be seen as controversial but then accidently being political and creating their own controversies! It's almost like not saying anything is in itself a political statement? Hard to say. But look, Sabra no longer works for the IDF, is a Black Widow and is called Ruth now! See! No controversies now! Don't look up what the actress playing her volunteered to do though, it's not important. What is important is there's a Red Hulk president! And someone tries to assassinate him! Surely that won't be controversial? All we're saying is that for not a Hulk movie there's an awful lot of Hulk characters and that the Young Avengers is not happening. Props for the big marble baby shoutout. Once again we're all reminded that Kingo is movies. Then they gave us a couple of different names for the TV show because aha! It was a trick and a marketing genius move and not at all reshuffling? Anyways, we got a trailer for it and it’s CSI: Witch for a bit until it’s not. So let’s all enjoy three grown men try to remember what happened in Wanda Vision, guess at Agatha’s motivation and get waylaid by Bewitched and the two Darrens. While we do talk about Agatha Jackson and Zammit love to get sidetracked by imagining how they’d ruin a genie’s day and JD once again just wants media with an audience in mind. Maybe we’ll get a Ralph Boner cameo? Some other apes are there chilling, playing dice, having a sing, chatting. They bring the devil a crown but as they are clumsy (like all apes) they break it in two. It shouldn’t be this hard to make a vampire movie and yet here we are. Join us in a brief trip down memory lane as we walk through the many ups and downs of the MCU doing their darndest to make a Blade film happen. So many stinky scripts that sucked, a period drama that didn’t have one (1) Blade and everyone except us wanting to forget Eternals happened. All we know is that Blade is the antithesis to quips-laden MCU, Riz Ahmed may be the missing piece to this whole messy affair and sometimes the audience shouldn’t be you and that’s good. Even though a monkey as a vampire film would be incredible, Hollywood are cowards and haven’t made one. Apes are on everyone’s lips as Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes made back its budget and Godzilla x Kong was the 3rd highest-grossing film of 2024! A new Hellboy movie is coming out and Jackson LOVES Hellboy! Unfortunately the trailer looks bad to not very good so our excitement for this film is barely there. On the bright side we won’t be disappointed if it’s bad but will be ecstatic if it’s enjoyable. The bar is low and we’re fine with that. So let us take you on a side journey about fat juicy holes, the recent history of getting slopped off and the 2009 classic Gamer. We ensure you these things are all relevant to the upcoming Hellboy: The Crooked Man film starring the guy who played Juggernaut’s boyfriend in Deadpool 2.For this episode’s ape fact let’s instead have an ape hypothetical, an apothetical if you will. After the whirlwind success of Patfleck’s The Batman, audience all over the world was clamouring for more! And we here at Baseless Speculation are no different (unless we said differently in the Based Reaction episode of The Batman, we cannot remember if we liked it or not)! The last time we had a think about Gotham, it was flooded and underwater and Paul Dano made a great face. Jackson also has a vague memory of Batman stuck in his Batmobile lost under a bridge calling Alfred for help. It’s safe to say we do not remember The Batman. But we are excited for The Penguin as a gritty mob TV series. What’s going to happen now with the power vacuum left by the Falcones? Is Oswald going to slowly rise up the ranks or join forces with Sofia and tear it apart from the inside like how he says in the trailer? What powers, if any, will Clayface have? And most importantly, when does Cobblepot buy two penguins from the docks? Our money’s on episode 5. Let’s all get excited for the soon to be hit on HBO’s Time Warner’s MAX as studio execs around the world can be heard screaming at James Gunn “why can’t Patfleck be our Batman?? Last year Peter Weyland did a TED talk and now we’re here, watching the new trailer for Alien: Romulus. In space, no one can hear you suckin on a wolf titty. Which is a shame, as surely the wolf milk is what gave those twins the power to build the twin cities of Rome and Reme? Either way, we need to be funding more research into the power of wolf titty milk instead of spending all our hard earned space dollars on xenomorphs or whatever. But here we are again, having some sneaky secret android convincing a bunch of plucky space-farers to capture da perfect organism so our beloved Weyland-Yutani can use Alien jelly to make da Olympics good. Come with us on this wild ride as we poorly remember the Alien franchise, try to figure out why Alien: Romulus is set between Alien and Aliens and learn too much about the Alien comics. Jackson thinks the problem with the Alien films is a problem of escalation and let me tell you, the comics clearly do NOT have that problem. Did you know the Gorilla-Alien or Gorilla-Morph happens when a facehugger face hugs a gorilla? It’s big, blue, could be described as “brutish” will walks on their knuckles. They are known as being highly aggressive, as opposed to the regular Alien which is more docile so only regularly aggressive? Or maybe they just mean it’s not as sneaky. The Garfield Movie is only a few short days away and the Baseless Boys are all over this like a rash on a rashed up cat! JD is off sick so we have our resident Garfield Maniac Adam Carnevale to bring his Garfield knowledge to our truely clueless but beautiful boys. They almost get caught off guard by thinking about Shawshank Redemption but never fear, because Adam is here to keep them on track! Sure, they eventually do go down a Nathfield rabbit hole, but this episode is a solid 80 to 90 percent on track. Plot elements are talked about! Animation style is discussed! The casting of Chris Pratt is questioned! See, they know their Garfields! But did you know that Koko the gorilla had a pet cat? Not only did Koko chose the cat herself from a litter of abandoned kittens, but Koko was the one to name him! She called him All Ball as it had no tail. And Koko loved that kitten! Petted him, played with him, was ever so gentle and described him as SOFT GOOD CAT. We’re not gonna lie, there was a wavering moment when Zammit remembered Michael Keaton was in Multiplicity but thankfully no one else had seen it or otherwise that would have been us for the episode. Then Jackson’s chair broke. In a regular episode that would have been it! But we made a promise! Hell or high water we’re gonna talk about Beetlejuice Beetlejuice! From the earliest rumblings of Beetlejuice Goes to Hawaii to Burton watching and loving Heaters to Vampire Lincoln Abraham Hunter (another landmine we expertly avoid!) no piece of production history is left unturned! Speaking of Multiplicity, it seems cloning is off the table. While attempting to clone rhesus monkeys, the cloned embryos lack key proteins that allow a cell to divvy up chromosomes and divide properly with some surmising that the same problem may also be present in any attempts to clone humans. So be bummed for ever ape you see is the only kind of that ape and you’ll never experience an ape like that again. But be grateful because no matter what, that ape is special and beautiful in it’s own way and what a magical experience it was to see that ape be that ape and no one can take that away from you! Transformers is going back to it’s roots with an unnecessary origin story! Now with terrible animation! Are you a lowly mining robot? Do you long for more? As you can tell we are all very excited to watch another hit in the multi media behemoth to sell us toys. We lovingly reminisce about the previous Transformers films and even pitch our own, Transformers: Dog that features a cameo from Ham the Astrochimp. Ham was the first great ape launched into space. In what might be the quickest derailment of an episode yet, the boys misremember who directed Mortdecai and that was all it took. We had every intention of doing an episode on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but you must understand it got away from us. If you had to try and remember Mortdecai and what that movie was about, it would happen to you! We scoured our little brains trying to think what the plot of that film was about and entered the Mortdecai hole you are no doubt about to go down. It’s a weird hole that takes many an unexpected turn. We guarantee you would never guess how the book Mortdecai is based on ends. Not in a million years! And the sequel? The world has never been more ready for the plot of that book. So come with us on this journey, we understand you got a ticket for the Beetlejuice train but this bus going to Mortdecai is where you need to go. Anyways, did you know that in the 50s there was an incredible chimpanzee named Congo who was a fabulous abstract impressionist? He drew line, he drew circle, understood composition and symmetrical consistency. Ever the perfectionist, if one of his little drawings was taken away that he considered incomplete he’d hoot and holler, scream and throw a fit until he could finish his masterpiece. So to celeblate we run through our theories about what’s going to happen in what will be this years most wonderful of films! How they get into the time bin? What Cassandra Nova want? She gonna go full Zazlav and delete the movie? What about Patrick Stewart? He coming back so he can die for a fourth time? We can only hope so! Joker: Folie a Deux, a sequel that has the chance of alienating fans of the first but luring those that had nothing but disdain for it has released a trailer and your boys are nothing if not topical! A brave and bold choice to follow up a segma male’s anthem with a jukebox musical. A brave and bold choice we respect. We do our best to remember the original film, try to figure out the big connection between Arthur Fleck ie A Fleck and Batfleck and Jackson attempts to convince the Joels that Norman Reedus’ character in the Walking Dead, Paytus, gets tied to a log, falls in a river and ends up in France. Because the currents were in his favour. Truely another masterful episode by the three cleverest boys in pop culture, an episode you can watch on YouTube. Sadly, if this was to happen to an gorilla it would drown. While most mammals are able to swim instinctively without any training, not gorillas! They are far too muscular and heavy to float or move in water and their short arms and legs make them terrible at any kind of swimming stroke. But don’t fret. Sometime in the 90s we almost had a James Cameron directed X-Men film until Stan Lee wrecked it. You see, Stan Lee was a crazy man who loved Spider-Man and shouldn’t be invited to non-Spider-Man meetings (to his credit, he did have a brilliant idea for a van based X-Men cartoon that never happened). So let’s have a famous think and ponder what that film might have been like and how Leonardo DiCaprio would have been shoehorned in as one of the merry mutants. With the recent announcments coming out of Marvel, we thought now would be a good time to explore some of the dangling plot threads and give a big think about which ones are going by the wayside. It's probably most of them but all of the Eternals. We imagine how it must feel to wake up and delete a movie, are shocked no one loves apples we deficated on and completely forget Emilia Clarke character so much that when writing this I had to google "dangling plot threads marvel" because I knew we forgot to talk about one of em but I forgot what it was again. Every movie is now Deadpool, Bad Boys or Guardians of the Galaxy and we're here to tell you that Borderlands is no different! What looks like a middling to adequate film has a surprising tumultuous production with directors giving up, writers joining 6 months after filming is wrapped and producers really wanting people to know some of their past hits! Zammit doesn't know what a Borderlands is, JD is excited for films and Jackson refuses to do any introspection. The main takeaway from this is that people contain multitudes and it's never too late to have your name taken off a project you care little about. If Deadpool & Wolverine cracks a cool billy the boys are off to the Melbourne Zoo on Duscher and Jackson's dime, but if Deadpool & Wolverine comes out to the fanfare of not making a billy then Zammit foots the bill. Zammit also made the claim he'll pay for the overnight zoo under the stars experience. This was not really covered at length in said bet and Zammit is feeling he may get shafted. Either way, the boys get to see some apes! As for this film? Deadpool will do something wacky, Duscher will loathe every moment Ryan Reynold's is on screen, Zammit thinks they'll make an Onslaught/Cassandra Nova amalgamation and Jackson just wants to know when everyone was last excited for a cameo.
