Striped marlin are a fabulous temperate bluewater game species that are accessible to anglers across much of southern Australia. But the truth is, most anglers targeting this species use large baits and lures and don't realise that they are far easier to catch on small lures fished correctly. For northern Australian anglers, or for those visiting the north, the presence of crocodiles in our waterways is an everyday thing. And while the number of fatalities associated with crocodile attacks is relatively low, fishermen are probably at greater risk than the general population. "Barra Dave" Donald isn't just one of the gentlemen of fishing, he's also one of the pioneers of the Cape York Fishery, with decades of guiding experience in that area. The Boyne Tannum Hookup is Australia's largest family fishing event, and in 2019 there are prizes to valued at $320K up for grabs. Not necessarily for the most successful fishermen, either.
