What is your opinion on these false religions saying that their God is telling them to do these actions? What is the difference between "Jesus, I trust You" and "Jesus, I trust IN You"? There is a prayer group in a nearby parish that says their meetings feature something called "Lectio Divina". Can you explain what that is? When Jesus says, you must take up your cross and follow Me, I think we tend to take that metaphorically – as in "we all have our crosses to bear". But when He said that to His disciples, what must they have been thinking when He said "take up your cross", because they must have known that carrying a cross meant crucifixion? In Psalm 90 it is mentioned that we live 70 or 80 years but most of them are spent in drudgery and toil. Does that mean we disobey God's will by living longer than that? 9/5/24 - Fr. Paul Born - Rash Judgment and Martin Luther
Fr. Paul Born currently serves as the Parochial Vicar at Mary, Queen of Martyrs Parish in Plymouth, Massachusetts. In Today's Show: We are new parents. Is it a mortal sin for us to miss Sunday Mass due to taking care of our baby? (Feeding, sleeping, fussiness, etc). We try our best but sometimes it's too late. When does rash judgment become a mortal sin, and when is it considered a venial sin? Could you provide examples? Does this apply to rash judgements in thoughts as well? Can I, a Catholic, attend my nephew's wedding (who also is a Catholic) who is getting married in an SSPV chapel? Is it correct that scholasticism is the only proper way to interpret scripture? What guidance, if any, does the Church give on how much to leave for your children as inheritance vs to give to the church? I'm working on my will and would appreciate guidance. Why do Catholics often blame Luther for the reformation rather than Pope Leo X? Do the psalms and scripture readings from the Divine Office "count towards" the indulgence associated with 30 minutes of scripture reading in a day? What is the significance of the number 40 in Sacred Scripture? I notice it comes up a lot, particularly referring to a passage of 40 days. When it comes to reading from the writings of Catholic authors who wrote about Catholicism and Church doctrine, but they later apostatized (like Tertullian), should we read or avoid reading their work? I returned to the Church, but now my fellow parishioners feel way more closed off than the ones from my older church. It seems even hard to get a smile out of people. It almost feels like I'm unwelcomed. I also miss an excellent bible study I had at my old church and I'm having trouble finding any Catholic Bible study or women's retreat. I love reading and digging into scripture and feel like this would solve many things. Any idea on where I can start looking? Can a lay person perform the exposition of the Eucharist for Adoration? What would Father do in a situation where he suspected that a person may be trying to receive the Eucharist unworthily? 9/4/24 - Canon Benjamin Norman, ICKSP - Dealing with Fallen Away Children
Canon Benjamin Norman, ICKSP currently serves as Chaplain of the ICKSP Oakland Apostolate at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Oakland, California. He was ordained in 2018. In Today's Show: Can Father explain this part of Ezikiel 28:9 - "Wilt thou yet say before them that slay thee: I am God; whereas thou art a man, and not God, in the hand of them that slay thee?" My three sons were all raised in the Catholic faith from birth and educated in Catholic schools. Yet, as adults today, none of them are practicing their faith or even hold belief in god anymore. If they were to pass away today, would there be any hope for their salvation at all? In some high feasts or extra important TLM Masses, there is a 4th person, I think a priest, who wears a cope the entire time. What is his position? How does Canon respond when you try to evangelize someone about the Catholic faith and they become very angry and vulgar? Will traditional seminaries admit someone who was previously married but received an annulment? Did Adam and Eve ever age? Are we required to do penance after we confess? I ask because I went to confession and the priest had a strong accent that made it hard to understand. Because of this, I didn't hear what I was supposed to do afterwards. I told my mother what happened, and she said that the confession didn't count, and that I had to return back to confession. I then told her no, because God has already forgiven my sins so there was no reason to do that. Who is in the right? Is it permissible for a Catholic to play an instrument in a Protestant worship service? Should lay people ever make announcements during the Mass over the PA system after the homily? What were some of the pre-reform abuses in the TLM? 8/30/24 - Fr. Michael Copenhagen, Melkite - Veneration vs. Worship Definition
Fr. Michael Copenhagen is a Catholic husband, father, and a priest at St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Melkite Catholic Church in Gates, New York. He holds a Bachelors of Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome. In Today's Show I am looking for work and they are asking me to work on Sabbath day. I know Sabbath Day is Sunday, but can I move it to another day? Or how do I keep the Sabbath Day holy even if I have to work? Historically, it was permitted for infants to receive communion in some Eastern churches. Is that still the case? Why does that differ from the Roman churches? What's the difference between veneration and worship? What verses can you use to explain this? How would I spot a worshiper from the venerator? Would it be considered unequally yoked if a Christian would be married to a Catholic? Is the marriage only valid if it takes place in the Catholic church? What is Father's opinion regarding imprecatory prayers? I've heard that according to the Catholic Church, people of all beliefs can go to heaven if they live in accordance with God's will, and that the Church teaches that salvation is for everyone and not just for Catholics. If this is the case, why do Catholics have to go to confession while non-Catholics don't, if both can end up in the same place? Also don't Catholics say an Act of Contrition before Communion? Wouldn't that be effective enough? I'm trying to get baptized as a teenager. Is it possible to do it at home? I recently bought a Christian standard Bible-Holman edition not realizing it was not a Catholic Bible. I am a practicing Catholic and I would like to start reading the Bible more. This Bible is easy to read and I don't notice any differences in the words when I compare it to the Catholic Bible that I have. Is it wrong for me to read this Bible? I know about the missing books, but besides that, is it okay to read? 8/29/24 - Fr. John-Mary Bowlin - Catholic Cremation?
Fr. John-Mary Bowlin serves as Parish Priest at St. Jude Catholic Church in Gun Barrel City, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army and was ordained a priest in June of 2012. In Today's Show: Father, if you miss a day during a 9 month novena, does that break the novena or can you just keep going? Why don't the extraordinary ministers have to wipe their hands with water after distributing Holy Communion like the priests do? Should the Pope restore the Minor Orders? Would this help seminarians form their priestly identity? I have a question about Saints: I am a Protestant, but I believe that the Saints are alive and I do believe you Catholics do not worship Saints. But how do we know that the Saints can hear us? I understand that the Holy Trinity is omnipresent. Satan and his demons don't have the same presence. How do multiple people become afflicted by a certain demon at the same time if not omnipresent? Can I go to Adoration early if I have a key to the building? Is that permissible? I have taken care of my father's house for 25 years in Canada. He collects both a US and Canadian pension. I live there rent-free, but he only pays me enough to just buy food. Whenever he comes up to visit and is in a bad mood, he threatens to throw me out of the house so I would be homeless. He then goes to Church and acts like he is a good Christian, while he is treating me like a slave. How do I convince my father to be a good Christian? Do Catholics have to be buried or can they be cremated? If so, is it allowable to spread the ashes? If I am a man of little emotion, but I am drawn by truth and I think I want to be a priest, but I have no constant emotional confirmation, what should I do? Are we required to accept the Novus Ordo mass as valid? Who is your favorite producer at The Station of the Cross and why?
