This isn't a typical episode, it's not about welding, but it is about some of the issues we as welders face. I feel that it's a topic that many of us struggle with and therefore it's a topic I wanted to address on the show, because I am sure many of you all are going through something. I told you all awhile ago, that my mission with this show, is to help, educate and inspire the next generation of welders. That doesn't stop at welding. Joining me today is Jerome Spear from JE Spear Consulting. Jerome is an industrial hygienist and has been in the industry for over 3 decades. If you don't know what an industrial hygienist is, don't worry you will by the end of the episode. I thought I knew what an industrial hygienist was but I only knew a small portion of what they actually do. I've been wanting to do this episode for over a year now but it turns out Industrial Hygiene is a pretty niche industry. My main reason to have an Industrial hygienist on the show was to discuss welding fumes, the potential hazards they poses and how best to mitigate exposure for welders in the shop, as well as in the field. We do a bit of a deep dive in to one specific compound that I wanted to raise awareness to and that is Hexavalent Chromium which is found primarily when cutting and welding stainless steel. We discuss some other hazards as well. After teaching at 2 different schools, Scott realized there's got to be a better way to teach welding education. So he started his own school from the ground up. And Scott's grown the right way, slow and steady, he takes what's working and improves it, he evaluates what's not working and eliminates it. He's also not expanding for the sake of profits, he expands when the time is right while maintaining a 10 student to 1 instructor ratio. Today's guest is Danny Keiderling, a rig welder out of the Wyoming area. I first got introduced to Danny via Instagram and TikTok, he does some great how to videos, and has some handy tips and tricks when it comes to welding, and he's always a super positive guy and genuinely cares about the skilled trade of welding. Danny was recently involved in an accident that has left him as a quadriplegic, but Danny didn't let that stop him. He's now trying to teach himself to weld once again and make a full recovery. He's already made significant progress with his physical therapy. Throughout his injury and therapy Danny has kept his positive attitude and continues to push himself a little more each day. He's one hell of an inspiration to many and I wanted to get him on the show to share his story and motivation with you all. Today I am chatting with my Buddy Dusty James from Pacific Arc Tig Welding. Dusty and I have been chatting back and forth quite a bit since his first appearance on the show over a year ago.
