Ep 195Syracuse coach Fran Brown will have you ready to COMMIT | Clemson sues ACC | Proctor leaves Iowa

We have a great interview with new Syracuse head coach Fran Brown, but first we’ve got to examine two HUGE news stories that broke Tuesday.(0:00-2:12) Intro(2:13-6:13) OL Kadyn Proctor is Heading BACK to Alabama after a brief stint at Iowa(6:14-12:45) Clemson Sues the ACC Preview(12:46-31:53) Syracuse Head Coach Fran Brown joins(31:54-34:11) Syracuse 2024 Schedule(34:12-48:09) Kentucky Basketball before March with Nick Roush(48:10-1:05:13) Deep Dive into Clemson Suing the ACC with Pete Nakos(1:05:14-1:08:46) Conclusion - Wednesday's First Four PicksFirst, Clemson sued the ACC in a South Carolina court in an attempt to clarify whether the grant of rights all the ACC schools agreed to is legally binding. The Tigers joined Florida State, which sued the ACC in December in a Florida court. (The ACC filed a preemptive lawsuit against the Seminoles in North Carolina).Next, offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor appears headed BACK to Alabama after transferring to Iowa earlier this offseason. Proctor started all 14 games for the Crimson Tide at left tackle as a true freshman in 2023, but he entered the transfer portal shortly after Nick Saban retired and headed back to his home state. He told Iowa coaches this week that he intended to re-enter the portal, and he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Tuesday night that he intends to re-enroll at Alabama.Later, new Syracuse coach Brown joins the show to explain why he’ll chase the same five-star recruits at Syracuse that he chased as a Georgia assistant. He also explains why his relationships helped him reshape the Orange roster very quickly. After hearing Brown’s philosophy, you’re probably going to be very high on Syracuse next year.Next, Nick Roush of Kentucky Sports Radio joins to preview Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats haven’t made the second weekend of the tourney since 2019, but John Calipari’s team is capable of going deep in the tourney this year. But it’s also inconsistent enough to duck out in one of the first two rounds, and that’s what makes this team such an adventure to watch. After Nick, On3 national reporter Pete Nakos joins to break down Clemson’s lawsuit against the ACC. The Tigers’ suit has some similarities to the one filed by Florida State, but Clemson attacks from a few different angles as well. Does this mean the best brands leaving the ACC is inevitable? It does, but we’ve been telling you that for months.Want to watch the show instead? Ep 194Can Nico turn Tennessee into a playoff team? | Matt Rhule helps Nebraska pick up the pieces

This show is sponsored by FanDuel. Go to fanduel.com/Staples to sign up and receive $200 in bonus bets if your first $5 bet wins.(0:00-1:04) Intro - NCAA Tournament, First Four TONIGHT(1:05-11:20) NIT Tournament Opt-Outs(11:21-40:00) Brent Hubbs joins to Check in on Tennessee(40:01-1:06:37) Sean Callahan joins to discuss the Lay of the Land in Nebraska(1:06:38-1:07:56) First Four NCAA PicksWe continue our 2024 schedule deep dive series with Tennessee, which started spring practice on Monday. Brent Hubbs of On3’s Volquest joins to break down a Volunteers’ schedule that — as new SEC schedules go — is not the scariest. How will the ascension of Nico Iamaleava to the starting quarterback role change Tennessee’s offense? Can the Vols be more explosive than they were last year, when a Joe Milton-led group took a step back from the previous year’s Hendon Hooker-led group? Plus, how much will having one of the nation’s deepest defensive lines help a group that struggled to get off the field on third-and-long plays last season?FanDuel has set Tennessee’s win total at 8.5. The over certainly seems reachable, but the bigger question is whether the Vols can go over by more than one win. If they can, they might be a College Football Playoff team.Next, Sean Callahan of On3’s Husker Online joins to break down a wild week in Nebraska. Last week, athletic director Trev Alberts — a former Nebraska football star — shocked the school by leaving for the same job at Texas A&M. On Monday, football coach Matt Rhule tried to rally Nebraska supporters who felt gut-punched by the move. Rhule showed he has mastered the political aspects of the Nebraska football job. He reassured the fan base while also encouraging greater donation and investment. He also staked his claim to having an even bigger voice in athletic department and school leadership. Now, he needs to get his team ready to win some games. Because if he can add wins to his political savvy, Rhule could have a very productive tenure at Nebraska.Want to watch the show instead? Dilfer thinks the schism between the Big Ten/SEC and the rest of the FBS is coming soon, perhaps within the next 18 months. That a sitting FBS coach would say this is interesting enough, but Dilfer spent enough time working at ESPN to know a lot of the people who move the levers that make these things happen. Plus, everything else has happened faster than expected, so perhaps things could move this fast.Andy and Cole discuss what such a league might look like. Would it be 50 or 60 teams or something smaller? Who could be included? What would happen to the rest of the FBS?With court cases still looming, schools exploring the idea of partnering with private equity firms and further realignment still on the horizon, could everything look different by 2026?Plus, Andy discusses Iowa star Caitlin Clark breaking the NCAA's all-time scoring record. Nike was ready with a congratulatory ad, and the Hawkeyes avenged an earlier loss to No. 2 Ohio State.Next, On3's James Fletcher III joins Andy to talk college basketball. Tennessee's win at Alabama on Saturday might be enough to move the Volunteers onto the NCAA Tournament selection committee's No. 1 seed line. Gonzaga won a critical game at St. Mary's.Also, can Ohio State interim coach Jake Diebler possibly get the Buckeyes into the NCAA Tournament.Plus, which low-major and mid-major conference tournament No. 1 seeds should be on upset watch this week?Want to watch the show instead? With the CFP expanding to 12 this season, is this the year the Nittany Lions finally break in? If you believe they’ll go over 9.5 wins, then you believe they’ll make the CFP.The question is this: How excited will fans be if Penn State is still only the third-best team in the Big Ten? Would making the CFP change the calculation? Sean Fitz of On3’s Blue and White Illustrated joins to answer these questions and more. Penn State has two new coordinators and perhaps the most interesting schedule it has had since before it joined the Big Ten. There is much to discuss.Next, On3’s James Fletcher III joins to preview a critical weekend in college basketball. Has Kentucky turned the corner after smashing Alabama and winning on a buzzer-beater at Mississippi State? Also, Tennessee heads to Tuscaloosa for a game that could help determine NCAA Tournament seeding.Kansas heads to Waco to face Baylor in a clash of Big 12 titans. Marquette and Creighton play in a key Big East game in Omaha. Out west, Gonzaga faces St. Mary’s in the West Coast Conference finale. Elko explains the differences in taking over a program with no prior experience there and one where he’s familiar. He also explains why one of the most accomplished strength coaches in the sport called him looking for a job. Before Elko visits, we need to talk court/field storming. We’ve talked about it multiple times on the show, and the inevitable happened Saturday when Duke’s Kyle Filipowski was injured when Wake Forest fans stormed the court after beating Duke.Andy explains why this probably won’t stop court/field storming, but it might convince athletic departments to have a better security plan to ensure players get off the floor/field.Andy also breaks down the massive loss for the NCAA in federal court on Friday. A judge in Tennessee issued a preliminary injunction that essentially pauses the NCAA’s ability to enforce its name, image and likeness rules. Will this finally convince schools to start moving toward the more sensible method of schools paying players directly?Tyler Horka of On3’s Blue and Gold joins to explain what the potential changes to the College Football Playoff could mean for Notre Dame. Tyler also helps us dive into Notre Dame’s schedule to determine whether the Irish can go over the 9.5 win total set for them earlier this month.Want to watch the show instead? This is happening even though the commissioners who run the CFP still aren’t sure exactly who will be in their conferences in 2026. They also have to decide this in the next month so they can secure sites and lock down a TV deal. With so much changing, maybe it’s time to just tear it down and rebuild instead of continuing to tweak. Andy calls on the great Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports to brainstorm ideas. In such a time of chaos, there are no bad ideas? Want relegation? Let’s figure it out. Want an objective format for choosing playoff teams? Let’s design one.Next, On3’s James Fletcher III joins Andy to talk NCAA men’s basketball tournament bracketology and bubble watch. With likely No. 1 seeds Purdue and Connecticut getting knocked off in the past week, does someone else have a chance to move up to the top line? That’s what the commissioners in charge of the CFP talked about on Wednesday, and they have about a month to decide how they want to tweak the CFP format. How would a 14-team playoff look? What about a 16-team format? Why are commissioners considering this? How would it change automatic bids?Next up, West Virginia coach Neal Brown joins the show. He discusses ending the 2023 season with a mayo bath, proving wrong the people who predicted the Mountaineers would finish last in the Big 12 and retaining the best players on the roster in the NIL era.Brown also explains the process of testing out a coach-to-helmet communication system in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. Does he think everyone will be using similar systems this season? Then it’s back to Dear Andy…Does the 12-team format — which may only exist for 2024 and 2025 — favor the teams that finish No. 3 in the Big Ten or SEC?Would Oklahoma’s predicted win total be higher if Dillon Gabriel were still the Sooners’ starting quarterback? Is UCLA in danger of being more like Indiana or Northwestern in the Big Ten?How should schools handle quarterback recruiting in the NIL era?Want to watch the show instead? Send your questions to [email protected] commissioners who run the College Football Playoff decided Tuesday to shift the format to five automatic bids and seven at-larges to account for the implosion of the Pac-12. There were a lot of experienced, successful returning starters across the country. That isn’t the case this season. We know Carson Beck at Georgia, Shedeur Sanders at Colorado, Jaxson Dart at Ole Miss and Quinn Ewers at Texas, but the other likely starting QBs on contending teams are either transfers or youngsters who have waited their turn.Andy and Jesse Simonton break down the state of the QB position heading into the season.Could a transfer like Will Howard or Dillon Gabriel lead his team to a national title? Is Michigan’s QB1 currently on its roster? Is Ewers for certain the guy at Texas, or will Arch Manning push him at some point in the season?Who will succeed Caleb Williams as USC’s QB1?Will one of the three super sophomores (Tennessee’s Nico Iamaleava, Oklahoma’s Jackson Arnold, Kansas State’s Avery Johnson) emerge as a superstar?Which QB will make the leap in his second season as the starter at his school?Next, Justin Hopkins of On3’s ScoopDuck breaks down Oregon’s schedule. Now he’s at Florida State trying to help the Seminoles keep their momentum going after an ACC title season. He discusses what it will feel like to play the Tigers, what he’s learned through four-plus years of college football and why he didn’t mind that Florida State took its time before offering him a scholarship. Before that, Andy breaks down the comments from Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte about the SEC possibly moving to a nine-game conference schedule in 2026.Later, you take over the show with your Dear Andy questions…Was this the craziest coaching carousel ever? Why the College Football Playoff re-sign with only ESPN?Could UCLA have handled the Chip Kelly situation differently? Why not start the season with bowl games? What’s the best Redneck Riviera town?Want to watch the show instead? Ep 170Can Nebraska win eight games? (It's not THAT crazy) | Can Ole Miss make the College Football Playoff

We continue our deep-dive series into college football teams for 2024 with Nebraska and Ole Miss. Fanduel dropped a ton of season win totals on us recently, and that gives us a great excuse to examine the schedules of different programs as they enter a season of drastic change in the sport.(0:00-2:02) Intro - Valentine's Day 101(2:03-6:14) 2024 Projected Wins Continued(6:15-11:29) ESPN, CFP Deal(11:30-16:54) Tennessee vs NCAA Update(16:55-37:18) Sean Callahan Talks Nebraska, 7.5 Projected Wins(37:19-1:02:30) Zach Berry Joins to Discuss Ole Miss at 9.5 Wins(1:02:31-1:04:18) Conclusion - Dear Andy Tomorrow!Submit your Dear Andy questions to [email protected] we get to the Cornhuskers and Rebels, Andy breaks down the news that ESPN will continue to televise the College Football Playoff through the 2031 season.Andy also recaps Tuesday’s hearing in a Tennessee federal courthouse between the Tennessee attorney general and the NCAA in a case involving NIL rules. Then, Sean Callahan of On3’s Husker Online joins to discuss what on the surface appears to be an aggressive win total (7.5) for a Nebraska program that hasn’t made a bowl game since 2016. But a deeper look at the schedule shows there is definitely a chance. The question is how well quarterback Dylan Raiola will play as a true freshman, because it certainly seems as if the star recruit is in line to be the Cornhuskers’ QB1.Next, Zach Berry of On3’s OM Spirit visits to discuss the Rebels’ win total (9.5), which doesn’t seem outrageous considering they won 10 regular-season games last season and have — at least on paper — a more talented roster this season. Can Ole Miss go over? And is that essentially the same question as “Can Ole Miss make the CFP?”Want to watch the show instead? Who made the best hire? Did anyone reach? Also, Pete helps preview the hearing as the attorneys general from Tennessee and Virginia take on the NCAA’s NIL rules in a federal courthouse in Knoxville on Tuesday. The judge in the case seems to have indicated how he’s going to rule, but could something surprising happen?Plus, Pete talks transfer portal. Only Michigan, Boston College and UCLA still have portal windows open. Does he expect much movement? Or will players wait until spring? As we mentioned, Fanduel recently dropped a huge batch of college football win totals. What are some of the numbers that we’ll need to take a deeper dive into in the coming weeks? Two that jump out: Miami at 9.5 and Oklahoma at 7.5.Next, Nick De La Torre of On3's Gators Online joins the show to talk about how and why Florida lost its recently hired strength coach to Boston College. Kelly replaces Bill O’Brien, who became Boston College’s head coach. Meanwhile, Alabama needs an offensive coordinator now that Ryan Grubb has taken the same position with the Seattle Seahawks. So who will be UCLA’s head coach? It doesn’t sound like Minnesota’s P.J. On Sunday night, On3’s Gators Online reported that new Florida coach Craig Fitzgerald is leaving to reunite with O’Brien at Boston College.Spencer Holbrook of On3’s Lettermen Row joins to discuss Kelly’s move to Ohio State. Fanduel has some juicy specials for the Super Bowl, and Andy will reveal his favorite picks on tonight’s show.(0:00-12:40) Intro - Kirk Herbstreit and Dylan Raiola Conversation(12:41-19:08) Nick Saban Joining College Gameday(19:09-38:16) Michael McMann Gives us a Legal Analysis of the NCAA(38:17-38:56) Dear Andy Intro(38:57-45:50) Streaming Services and Conference-TV Deals(45:51-48:41) New Committee Selection Process?(48:42-52:36) How big of a domino will it be when FSU leaves ACC?(52:37-1:00:04) A look at Virginia Tech and the ACC(1:00:05-1:03:58) Best Food Spots in Oxford(1:03:59-1:06:00) CW's Coverage of ACC?(1:06:01-1:06:56) Conclusion The Internet was abuzz Wednesday after Dominic Raiola, the father of Nebraska signee Dylan Raiola, told Adam Gorney of rivals.com that a conversation with ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit helped guide his son’s recruitment. This led to anger at Herbstreit from Georgia fans because Dylan Raiola flipped to Nebraska from Georgia. Andy talked to Herbstreit on Wednesday night and can provide a lot more context for how that phone call went. Needless to say, there is more to the story.Herbstreit also will have a new co-worker on College GameDay. ESPN announced Wednesday that former Alabama coach Nick Saban will join the GameDay cast this season. Next, Sportico legal analyst and Harvard law professor Michael McCann joins Andy to help explain the various legal cases affecting college sports right now. McCann handicaps next week’s hearing in the case involving the Tennessee and Virginia attorneys general suing the NCAA over its NIL rules. McCann also explains what the next steps are after a National Labor Relations Board regional director ruled Dartmouth basketball players to be employees of the university. Then it’s time for Dear Andy, where Andy answers your excellent questions. Is the partnership between ESPN and Fox on a streaming service another sign that a super league could happen down the road?If there is such a league, could there be objective criteria for making the College Football Playoff? How large of a domino would Florida State leaving the ACC be?What is the long-term future for Virginia Tech?Where should a hungry Oklahoma fan eat in Oxford, Miss.?Want to watch the show instead? Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee) teamed with Sen. Cory Booker (D-New Jersey) to re-introduce a bill that would force more transparency, accountability and speed for NCAA investigations into schools. In non-NCAA news that could affect how you watch your college football, it appears Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. plan to team up to offer a bundle of sports channels that might cover most of the watchable sports spectrum. It sounds an awful lot like cable, but without most of the non-sports stuff. Meanwhile, Jim Harbaugh continues to raid the Michigan staff as he fills out his Los Angeles Chargers staff. On the day defensive coordinator Jesse Minter said goodbye to Michigan fans, the NFL Network reported that defensive line coach Mike Elston would join Harbaugh in Los Angeles.Later, George Stoia III and Eddie Radosevich of On3’s Sooner Scoop join Andy to say goodbye to country singer Toby Keith, who died Monday night after a battle with cancer. Keith was a massive Oklahoma fan, and his loss will be felt across Sooner Nation.George and Eddie also talk Oklahoma’s 2024 team and where in the SEC Oklahoma fans are most excited to go.Next, former Iowa punter Tory Taylor joins Andy to tell the story of his journey from Australia to Iowa City. Taylor was one of Iowa’s most important players, and he explains how his “Punting Is Winning” shirts came to be and why Cooper DeJean is a punter’s best friend (as long as it’s the punter on his team).Want to watch the show instead? Check out Fanduel's Super Bowl specials for a ton of fun ways to spice up the game. With a little more than a week remaining before two states take on the NCAA's NIL rule in court, a National Labor Relations Board case involving an Ivy League basketball team adds even more intrigue to the mix.(0:00-11:53) Intro - NBLA Declares Dartmouth Basketball Players to be Employees(11:54-14:23) 2024 Early Season Win Totals (14:24-17:49) Alabama 2024 Win Total: 9.5(17:50-20:59) Colorado 2024 Win Total: 5.5(21:00-26:03) Boston College Head Coaching Search(26:04-53:08) On3's Newest Host Phillip Dukes Joins!(53:09-58:47) Oregon's Brandon Dorlus Joins(58:48-1:00:09) Conclusion Since we're all craving some football talk, Andy discusses Fanduel's two season win total releases to this point. Both are very interesting. Alabama has the lowest win total (9.5) since 2016, and Colorado's 5.5 total means bettors must decide if Coach Prime can engineer a two-win improvement in year two (and in a new conference).Next, On3's newest hire Phillip Dukes joins Andy to discuss his new show Five-Star Flex as well as the current recruiting landscape. Dukes also talks Auburn, where the excitement over the incoming receivers is tempered by concerns about quarterbackLater, former Oregon defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus joins Andy to discuss why some rivalries shouldn't be set aside -- even in all-star games.Want to watch the show? Plus, Tennessee football player Jackson Lampley filed a declaration Thursday in the lawsuit against the NCAA filed Wednesday by the attorneys general of Tennessee and Virginia. The NCAA also released its infractions report Thursday in the case involving fired Alabama baseball coach Brad Bohannon. Bohannon was fired for leaking inside information about a game to a gambler, but the exact details — outlined in the NCAA’s report — are even dumber than you can possibly imagine.Later, Andy talks to former Penn State defensive end Adisa Isaac at the Senior Bowl. He joins Andy to discuss former Alabama quarterback signee Julian Sayin committing to Ohio State on Sunday. Sayin joins former Alabama safety Caleb Downs, a freshman All-America selection who committed to the Buckeyes on Friday. The Buckeyes, who also just hired Bill O'Brien to run the offense, are not playing around in 2024.Andy and Pete also talk about whether what has happened at Alabama should inform what Michigan does if Jim Harbaugh winds up leaving for the NFL. Is promoting offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore an even smarter move if an outside search means the roster could get picked apart? Before Pete joins, Andy points out that what happened to Iowa basketball star Caitlin Clark during Sunday's court-storming after Ohio State upset the Hawkeyes is exactly why some leagues have been trying to make rules to curb court/field storming. Andy isn't necessarily in favor of those rule, but he is in favor of some common sense.Later, Nick De La Torre of On3's Gators Online joins to discuss the NCAA investigation at Florida, which has been going on since last summer.
