NCAA settlement. The NCAA's Board of Directors has as well. More approvals will come, which means schools could be sharing revenues directly with athletes within the next year. What seemed unthinkable 10 years ago is on the verge of happening.Meanwhile... QB Jaden Rashada has sued Florida coach Billy Napier and Florida mega-donor Hugh Hathcock alleging fraud because Rashada didn't receive any of the money he claims he was promised during his recruitment by Florida. Rashada, a four-star prospect in the class of 2023, flipped from Miami to Florida in November 2022. He signed with Florida even though his NIL deal already had been terminated by the collective that wrote it. Ep 234Does North Carolina want out of the ACC too? | Is Florida State reloaded to win the ACC again?
Andy is on the scene at the ACC meetings in Amelia Island, Fla., and the scene is… weird.(0:00-3:05) Intro - Live from ACC Spring Meetings!(3:06-9:41) Kickoff Times Announced(9:42-23:12) North Carolina, Board of Trustees Update(23:13-48:40) Florida State Update with Ira Schoffel(48:41-53:44) NFL vs CFP Games on TV(53:45-1:02:33) NCAA president speaks on House Settlement(1:02:34-1:03:09) ConclusionTwo ACC schools (Florida State and Clemson) are suing the conference, and the conference is suing those schools back. And everyone is meeting ahead of a potentially exciting 2024 football season because no one can do anything about the court cases right now.Meanwhile, the board of trustees at North Carolina made a very public statement that the Tar Heels need to consider membership in another conference. Unlike at Clemson and Florida State, where the president and athletic director were very much on board with the anti-ACC sentiment, the trustees spent part of their meeting Monday criticizing athletic director Bubba Cunningham, who was headed to the meeting in Florida when they met. Cunningham, at least publicly, has been supportive of the ACC.Also, NCAA president Charlie Baker met with ACC ADs and coaches Monday to brief them on some of the big changes heading their way. The NCAA is negotiating a settlement in a class action lawsuit (House v. NCAA) that likely will change the business model for college sports. And Baker is talking like a person who wants that multi-billion dollar settlement done so the schools can start preparing for the future.Later, Andy and Ira Schoffel of On3’s Warchant discuss Florida State’s position in the ACC right now as the Seminoles sue the league in Florida and the league sues the Seminoles in North Carolina. Plus, Andy and Ira discuss what Florida State will look like on the football field this year after losing some very important players to the NFL. Want to watch the show instead? Ep 232Can Hugh Freeze calling plays make Auburn a contender RIGHT NOW? | Top QB recruit to visit Indiana?
Andy and Phillip Dukes are talking Auburn on a glorious spring Friday. Hugh Freeze said this week that he decided to roll with the QBs the Tigers had — including incumbent starter Payton Thorne and incoming freshman Walker White — rather than spending big on a QB in the transfer portal. Was that the correct choice, and how much will Freeze’s decision to call plays again change the course of the offense? Also, how good is freshman receiver Cam Coleman?(0:00-0:59) Intro(1:00-2:09) Phillip Dukes Joins(2:10-21:32) Auburn's Outlook(21:33-26:42) Notable Offenses(26:43-38:59) Juju Lewis Visiting Indiana(39:00-47:28) Dukes shows off his shoe collection(47:29-1:01:57) Austin Rivers comments(1:01:58-1:03:51) Wrapping Up, ConclusionJuJu Lewis, a top class of 2025 quarterback recruit from Dukes' neck of the woods is committed to USC and being pursued by Auburn, but he has scheduled a visit to Indiana. How did that happen, and what does it say about how serious new Hoosiers coach Curt Cignetti is about turning around that program? The guys also discuss which teams improved their rosters the most now that the spring transfer portal window has closed. Miami kept adding players, but will those additions help the Hurricanes win more come fall?Andy and Dukes also discuss former NBA guard Austin Rivers’ comment that there were about 30 NBA players who could play in the NFL. Ep 229The spring transfer portal window did not destroy America | LSU still needs help on defense
The transfer portal is closed, and the last of the entrants are finding new teams. On3’s Pete Nakos joins to break down the action.(0:00-5:49) Intro(5:50-25:44) Pete Nakos Joins to Breakdown Transfer Portal(25:45-37:48) Future of College Football, Court News(37:49-41:19) LSU Intro(41:20-1:04:10) Billy Embody from the Bengal Tiger joins(1:04:11-1:06:10) ConclusionAmorion Walker is the latest Boomerang transfer. San Jose State CB transfer Jay’Vion Cole, the top remaining DB in the portal, committed to Texas. The landing spot for Oklahoma QB transfer General Booty remains unknown.Andy and Pete also discuss Pete’s story on the possibility that athletes might collectively bargain with schools or conferences even if they aren’t employees. This is what the schools would prefer, but it may not be possible because of a variety of factors.Next, Billy Embody of On3's The Bengal Tiger joins to talk LSU. First, he and Andy put to rest any J.D. PicKell-created debate over the nickname for Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.Billy explains what LSU does now after missing on several key defensive line targets in the spring transfer portal window. Ep 227Oklahoma beats Texas for a HUGE transfer portal commit | Can Texas A&M surprise in the fall?
The spring transfer portal window is closed, but there’s still drama. Oklahoma landed one of the most sought-after players in the spring window on Thursday when TCU transfer Damonic Williams committed. Williams started every game in his two seasons at TCU and was an honorable mention All-Big 12 player in 2023. Few defensive linemen with this resume had entered the portal this spring, and a lot of schools wanted Williams. It came down to Oklahoma and Texas.(0:00-9:09) Intro - Transfer Portal News(9:10-23:13) Pete Nakos Joins to Break down Transfer Portal(23:14-29:57) NCAA Antitrust Settlement Case, Future of CFB(29:58-32:56) Texas A&M Introduction(32:57-1:05:12) Billy Liucci from Tex Ags joins(1:05:13-1:06:47) Conclusion - Have a great weekend!On3’s Pete Nakos breaks down that decision as well as the ongoing recruitment of Michigan State transfer defensive lineman Simeon Barrow, who told Pete on Thursday that he might decide Friday from a group that includes LSU, Missouri and Miami.Plus, Oklahoma backup QB General Booty is the highest ranking player to ever enter the transfer portal.Next, Billy Liucci of TexAgs.com joins the show to talk about a quiet spring in College Station as new coach Mike Elko works to shape a roster that probably isn’t as loaded as we’d think given Texas A&M’s recruiting rankings of the past few years. In fact, the situation Elko finds himself in now is eerily reminiscent of the one Steve Sarkisian took over at Texas in 2021.But with QB Conner Weigman working his way back toward 100 percent, transfer Nic Scourton coming off the edge and an SEC schedule that isn’t as tough as the one some other teams got, the Aggies might be a surprise come fall.Want to watch the show instead? Ep 226Has the Sanders family made a HEEL TURN at Colorado? | What jobs require winning a national title?
It’s a Dear Andy edition, and you have some great questions. Specifically, you have some very interesting questions about Deion Sanders.(0:00-7:37) Intro - Opt Outs, State of CFB(7:38-21:59) Introducing On3 - Her with Talia Goodman(22:00-24:09) Dear Andy Intro(24:10-45:31) Deion Sanders and Colorado(45:32-59:46) Coaches Hired to Win Championships(59:47-1:03:34) Group of 5 to Power 4 Transfers Idea(1:03:35-1:06:41) 4 New Conferences to Pick New Teams(1:06:42-1:09:49) Nick Saban's Retirement(1:09:50-1:14:03) G5 School to use in EA Sports?(1:14:04-1:16:14) ConclusionBut first, we’re very excited to introduce you to Talia Goodman. Talia is On3’s newest hire, and she’ll be leading the HER vertical. While a student reporter at Indiana University, Talia realized there wasn’t a transfer portal news-breaker covering women’s basketball, so she worked to make herself one. Now she’s the best in the game, and she’s bringing her talents to On3.Andy and Talia discuss how the women’s college game can capitalize on the moment it’s having currently, and Talia identifies the stars who will try to fill the void now that Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese and company are off to the WNBA.Now, it’s time for your questions. Once again, Coach Prime and his team dominate the conversation. Will Shedeur Sanders' tweet clapping back at a former Colorado player hurt his chances to win awards? Would it affect his draft stock? How much longer should we reasonably expect Deion to be at Colorado?Given the discussion of the way Sanders handled cutting players and the back-and-forth between former and current Colorado players, what should be considered acceptable when managing a roster?Andy often talks about college football jobs where the job description is simply “Win the national title.” How many of those jobs are there? Which schools?Who does Andy plan to play as in Dynasty Mode when the new EA college football game debuts?Want to watch the show instead? Ep 224Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola looks ready to SHINE | Is this the deepest Notre Dame team in years?
The hype train for Nebraska freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola is leaving the station, and Andy climbs aboard with Sean Callahan of On3’s Husker Online. Raiola’s spring game performance got the Nebraska fanbase pumped for the future. So what happens next? How does coach Matt Rhule handle the quarterback situation going into preseason camp? And who will help Raiola on offense when fall arrives?(0:00-4:29) Intro(4:30-13:49) Leaders Discussing Settlement of Antitrust Case(13:50-35:14) Sean Callahan from Husker Online Joins(35:15-40:28) Spring Transfer Portal(40:29-1:03:53) Tyler Horka from Blue and Gold joins(1:03:54-1:06:50) Conclusion - Draft Ultimate Teams tomorrowBefore that, Andy breaks down the news that the NCAA and major conferences have engaged in settlement talks in the House v. NCAA case. Why does this matter? Because any settlement likely involves the schools promising revenue sharing with the athletes going forward. That would change how the players are compensated, and it likely would lead to collective bargaining.Speaking of which, there was news on that front Monday out of Trent Dilfer’s UAB program. Also, a few more players jumped in the transfer portal ahead of its closing on Tuesday. Alabama freshman safety Peyton Woodyard entered on Monday night. Oregon is the favorite to land him. Nebraska edge rusher Chief Borders also has entered the portal. So has former Washington QB Sam Huard, who spent 2023 at Cal Poly. Offensive lineman Andrew Dennis, the highest ranked signee in Illinois’ 2024 class, also entered the portal.Next, Tyler Horka of On3’s Blue and Gold joins to discuss Notre Dame coming out of spring practice. The Fighting Irish got a good look at their quarterback room with presumed starter Riley Leonard recovering from ankle surgery, and the depth — and lack of QBs jumping in the portal — should inspire confidence. So should the performance of the receivers in the spring game. Notre Dame didn’t have anywhere near its full group, but the way the available players performed suggests that the passing game should be much more dynamic than it was last season.Want to watch the show instead? Andy and Philip Dukes break down the first round of the NFL draft. We’re not quite sure, but Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson posted a photo of he and Edwards playing together in pee-wee football.Next, Andy and On3 national writer Jesse Simonton have things to argue about. Ep 219How 2024 NFL first-round draft picks stacked up as college football recruits
Yes, Caleb Williams was always that good. But he wasn’t the top-ranked quarterback in the recruiting class of 2021. (That guy is still in college.) Meanwhile, J.J. McCarthy was as polarizing a college recruit as he is a potential NFL draft pick.(0:00-3:50) Introduction - NFL Draft(3:51-7:52) Charles Power and Cody Bellaire Join, Covid's Impact(7:53-13:29) Caleb Williams, USC(13:30-17:35) Drake Maye, UNC(17:36-19:28) Quinn Ewers Discussion(19:29-24:36) JJ McCarthy, Michigan(24:37-26:49) Jayden Daniels, LSU(26:50-29:25) Overall QB's(29:26-31:31) Jayden Daniels and Innovation in Technology(31:32-34:51) Favorite Prospect - Brock Bowers, Georgia(34:52-36:05) Jonathon Brooks, Texas(36:06-40:36) Can't Miss Recruits: Byron Murphy, Texas(40:37-43:35) Offensive Line Class: Joe Alt, Notre Dame(43:36-46:23) Tyler Guyton, Oklahoma(46:24-49:06) Gary Patterson at TCU(49:07-53:22) Guys Not in the Draft (53:23-56:59) Significance of Age(57:00-1:01:00) Guys Not in the Draft, Re-Visited(1:01:01-1:02:05) ConclusionOn3 director of ranking Charles Power and national scout Cody Bellaire join Andy to share stories about the players who will be drafted beginning this Thursday when they were high schoolers trying to choose where they would play their college ball.Cody, who used to work in the personnel department at LSU, offers a plausible alternate history where Williams winds up in Baton Rouge playing for Ed Orgeron. Charles discusses how low-key Jayden Daniels' recruitment to Arizona State was. Charles also explains how the Joe Alt who came out of high school in Minnesota was not nearly as easy to project as the version of Alt who is leaving Notre Dame and heading to anchor some NFL team’s offensive line for the next 10 years. Sure, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian made it abundantly clear that Quinn Ewers is the Texas starter and that he just really wanted to give Manning a chance to play significant snaps in the spring game. But that’s not how the Internet works, Sark.Meanwhile, Michigan wrapped spring practice, and it appears the Wolverines’ QB competition will come down to Alex Orji and Davis Warren — unless Michigan coaches decide to dip into the transfer portal for a QB. So far, no QB that would appear worthy of Michigan’s starting job has entered the portal. That brings us to a transfer portal update from On3 national writer Pete Nakos. The weekend brought a lot of official visits, a few commitments and a few new entries.Next, Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus joins to break down Thursday’s NFL Draft. Trevor is a massive college football fan who also happens to be a draft analyst, and he’ll help explain some of the more interesting swings in draft conventional wisdom. For instance, former Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy is now being mocked as a likely top-10 pick. How did he climb draft boards so fast?Want to watch the show instead? This show is sponsored by Fanduel. Go to fanduel.com/Staples to sign up and new customers receive $150 in bonus bets when you bet $5. Fanduel recently released odds on which teams will make the 12-team College Football Playoff. Is your team favored?(0:00-4:06) Introduction(4:07-15:28) Transfer Portal Update - Jaden Rashada(15:29-21:50) Damien Martinez Visit(21:51-37:37) LSU WR Coach and Co-Offensive Coordinator Cortez Hankton Jr. Joins(37:38-1:03:22) On3's National Scout Cody Bellaire Joins to discuss how the transfer portal ACTUALLY works(1:03:23-1:04:55) ConclusionThe transfer portal is expecting a very interesting entrant soon. Quarterback Jaden Rashada, whose original signing with Florida disintegrated after a collective reneged on a contract that purported to be worth $13.8 million over four years, is leaving Arizona State after one season in Tempe. Where might he wind up? On3’s Pete Nakos reported he possibly could be headed to an SEC school.Next, LSU receivers coach/co-offensive coordinator Cortez Hankton Jr. joins the show. Hankton will be in the green room at the draft next week with former Tigers receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr., who are expected to be picked in the first round. Hankton, who came to LSU from Georgia and who could have as many as six former players drafted next week, discusses how those two developed into first-rounders.Later, On3 national scout Cody Bellaire explains how college personnel departments are handling the transfer portal window. Bellaire, who worked in the personnel departments at LSU, Texas A&M and Texas Tech, breaks down exactly how the process works from a player deciding to enter the portal to choosing a new school.Want to watch the show instead? [email protected] Burton of On Texas Football joins to discuss how the Longhorns can tweak an already loaded roster as they prepare for year one in their new league. Offensive line remains a question mark. What does that mean for the development of new starting quarterback Jackson Arnold? Also, how much different is Oklahoma’s roster makeup since the Sooners decided three years ago to join the SEC?Andy updates the transfer portal, which opened Tuesday. A few players who could contribute to contending teams have tossed in their names now.Plus, Sportico obtained a potential conference breakdown from a pitch deck for the college football super league idea that arrived with a thud a few years ago. It helps explain why the idea got zero traction with the people who make the decisions.Michigan and the NCAA have negotiated a resolution to (mostly) wrap up the case commonly known as Cheeseburgergate. The school and some current and former coaches have agreed to punishments for recruiting violations committed during the pandemic. The one former coach who did not agree to any sort of resolution? Jim Harbaugh. The former Michigan and current Los Angeles Chargers head coach did not take part in the settlement and has continued to fight the accusations against him. Clayton Sayfie of On3’s The Wolverine joined to discuss what this means for the Wolverines and for Harbaugh.Want to watch the show instead? [email protected], the football transfer portal is about to get some action. The window for undergraduate transfers doesn’t open until Monday, but two big names indicated on Tuesday that they plan to enter the portal when it opens. USC defensive tackle Bear Alexander — perhaps the biggest mover in last year’s spring portal when he went from Georgia to the Trojans — plans to move again. Meanwhile, Oregon State tailback Damien Martinez — who averaged 6.1 yards a carry for the Beavers last year — also plans to enter the portal. The basketball portal remains busy as well. Indiana State’s Robbie Avila — affectionately known as Cream Abdul-Jabbar or Larry Nerd — has entered his name into the portal. Is he following former Sycamores coach Josh Schertz to Saint Louis? Or is he looking elsewhere? In a Tallahassee courtroom, a judge denied the ACC’s request to stay Florida State’s lawsuit against the league. A North Carolina judge denied Florida State’s request last week to stay the ACC’s suit against the Seminoles in that state. That means things are about to get pretty messy, and the suits involving Clemson and the ACC in South Carolina and North Carolina haven’t even gotten rolling yet.Next, Jake Rowe of On3’s Dawgs HQ previews Georgia’s spring game. The Bulldogs are loaded again, but how exactly will they replace production from stars such as Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey?Want to watch the show instead? The Athletic reported on Wednesday that a group of movers and shakers — including multiple university presidents, a key search firm executive and a high-ranking NFL executive — are trying to create a college football super league that would provide a workable path forward (read: less lawsuits) while also not cutting out more than half the current FBS teams. The idea, brought forward by a group that includes NFL No. 2 Brian Rolapp and search firm executive Len Perna, would include all the current FBS programs but would be split into multiple divisions. There would be promotion and relegation between divisions. The league would serve as the employer for the players and would collectively bargain with the players.Andrew Marchand, who wrote The Athletic story along with Stewart Mandel, joins to discuss why they’re going public now and if there is any real chance this might happen. Spoiler alert: The Big Ten, the SEC and the TV networks do not seem supportive.Next, Andy answers your questions:How many college football games in 2024 will have more viewers than the LSU-Iowa women’s Elite Eight game played Monday? Is there a college football equivalent to the way referees call games involving Purdue basketball star Zach Edey? How many games does Kalen DeBoer have to win in year one at Alabama to keep the fanbase happy? And much, much more…Want to watch the show instead? [email protected] national writer Jesse Simonton joins Andy to debate which teams have a real chance to win the 2024 college football national title. Jesse wrote a column this week detailing which teams had real chances to be the first champion to emerge from a 12-team College Football Playoff. That format matters a lot. A team now must win at least three and possibly four consecutive games against the best of the best to claim the national title. Who is deep enough to survive that gauntlet? But Andy wonders if any team is deep enough in the transfer portal era to avoid a surprise loss.Next, Spencer Holbrook of On3’s Lettermen Row joins to talk Ohio State as the Buckeyes — one of the teams that definitely belong on the can-win-the-national-title-list — continue spring practice. This is the most loaded Ohio State roster in years, but how do the pieces fit together? Is Kansas State transfer Will Howard definitely QB1, or does Devin Brown still have a chance? How does Alabama transfer Caleb Downs change the defense? Is receiver Jeremiah Smith, the nation’s top recruit in the class of 2024, as good as advertised?Want to watch the show instead? DeBoer talked about the unique challenge of taking over an ultra-successful program rather than one that changed coaches because things weren’t working.DeBoer discussed how he wants the offense to look, and he went over the learning curve for quarterback Jalen Milroe and the rest of Alabama’s signal-callers. DeBoer also went in-depth on how important it was to get recruits to Tuscaloosa this spring so they could see for themselves that while the coaching staff is new, the standard at Alabama hasn’t changed.Next, Andy and On3’s James Fletcher III break down the Elite Eight games and look forward to the Final Four. Is the matchup of N.C. State’s D.J. Burns Jr. and Purdue’s Zach Edey the most fun clash we’ve seen in the post in a Final Four game this century? Andy and On3’s James Fletcher III break it all down. For possibly the first time all season, Alabama’s defense matched its offense and the Crimson Tide beat North Carolina in a thriller that ended with multiple Grant Nelson blocks. Alabama will face Clemson, which beat Arizona on a night when the Wildcats inexplicably kept shooting threes that wouldn’t go down when easier scoring options were available. In the East Region, Illinois is headed to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2005 after beating Iowa State. The Cyclones brought their usual suffocating defense, but the Illini matched it and Terrence Shannon Jr. scored 29 and helped seal the win with a breakaway dunk.Illinois will face defending national champ Connecticut in the Elite Eight. The Huskies went cold late in the first half Thursday but roared to life in the second half and crushed San Diego State by 30 in a rematch of last season’s national title game.Friday, South No. 1 seed Houston plays Duke, while Marquette plays tourney darling N.C. State. In the Midwest region, Tennessee plays Creighton and top-seeded Purdue plays Gonzaga.Want to watch the show instead? Penn State hired away offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki, and Leipold hired veteran coordinator Jeff Grimes to take over an offense led by human highlight reel Jalon Daniels. Kansas also will be playing its games in Kansas City while the Jayhawks’ home stadium is being rebuilt in Lawrence. A time traveler from 2019 wouldn’t believe one of the clauses that was written into the contract with the Chiefs’ stadium.Next, Andy and Nick Roush of Kentucky Sports Radio break down the John Calipari situation at Kentucky. Calipari is scheduled to meet with Wildcats athletic director Mitch Barnhart on Tuesday, but Calipari’s appearance on his radio show Monday night certainly seems to suggest he’s coming back for another season. That’s going to frustrate a lot of the fanbase. What does Calipari need to do to win back that group? Georgia running back Trevor Etienne, who just arrived from Florida, was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with DUI. Meanwhile, USC had a big recruiting day Sunday as the Trojans try to address their defensive issues. They flipped a defensive tackle from Georgia and landed commitments from a highly rated edge rusher and safety for the class of 2025.The Sweet 16 is set, and it’s pretty chalky. But it took a miraculous overtime escape by South No. 1 seed Houston against Texas A&M to get there. The Cougars had four players foul out Sunday night and still managed to pull off a 100-95 win. Also, On3’s James Fletcher III caught a leg whip from Houston’s J’Wan Roberts when Roberts dove over press row for a loose ball in overtime.James joins Andy to talk about the wild finish in Memphis and the rest of the tournament action…UConn looks like a machine that could roll to a second consecutive national title…Purdue dispatched Northwestern with ease.North Carolina handled Michigan State.Chalk in the round of 32 means big matchups in the Sweet 16. The one thing Kentucky coach John Calipari couldn’t do was lose to Oakland and he… lost to Oakland. On3’s James Fletcher III joins to discuss the biggest story in the sport and the rest of Thursday’s action.Kentucky hasn’t made the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament since 2019, and seemingly the entire Kentucky fanbase has turned against Calipari. But his buyout is massive. The Jimbo Fisher parallels are strong, right down to the amount it will take to fire him.Meanwhile, Oakland coach Greg Kampe, who has coached the Golden Grizzlies for 40 YEARS, notched his biggest win as a head coach. Not to be outdone, soon-to-retire Duquesne coach Keith Dambrot notched another one for the longtime veteran coaches as the Dukes upset No. 6 seed BYU.Gonzaga dispatched mid-major darling McNeese with shocking ease, and Oregon showed again that its a different team when healthy by beating No. 6 seed South Carolina. What fun will Friday bring?
