- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, EMDR
- Especially for trauma and distressing situations
- Trauma is stored in your body, this approach is a bottom up versus the other therapies that start with the head...logic etc...
- Desensitizes the memory, bi-lateral stimulation
- Do not have to talk through the whole experience
- Therapists require training for this therapy
- Was created for PTSD, but is effective on OCD, anxiety, and other disorders
- Not necessarily a stand alone treatment
- Internal Family Systems, IFS, the movie Inside Out is based on this
- How you either protect your inner self or exile parts of your inner self
- It is more than just your emotions, sometimes it is general concepts, or younger self
- Emphasizes self-compassion
- Works well with EMDR
