S13 Ep 1Another Day
Season 13 kicks off with a brand new chapter in Helen's life. Is she old old? She certainly is, in her opinion. We pick up the story a couple of months after the end of Season 12. Her daughter Janey has moved with husband Jon to Edinburgh. Her next door neighbours have put their flat on the market. And Helen has discovered that she is not fully recovered from the accident, when her head came into close and sudden contact with the pavement. Erika Sanderson returns to give voice to Helen's granddaughter Susie, while Flloyd Kennedy plays Helen, and Jennifer-next-door. The music is courtesy of John T La Barbera, and John's music is available on Bandcamp. Full transcript is available on the website shortly after the episode has been released. https://amIoldyet.com/s13e1 SFX getting hung up on three beeps.wav by lyd4tuna -- https://freesound.org/s/453267/ -- License: Creative Commons 0 While this podcast is free to listen to, it's not free to produce, so please consider contributing towards the expenses involved in presenting it to your listening ears. S12 Ep 1What's up, Helen?

Return of the Bread
bonus"Return of the Bread" is a bonus episode which marks a departure for TMT, in that it is our first attempt at a crossover episode. Characters from our two podcasts, "Am I Old Yet?" and "Baked Off! Live Laugh Loaves!" meet up in Helen's favourite Cheese Shop Cafe in south London, where cafe owner Ilse is getting ready for the lunch time trade. It's been a quiet morning so far, but things are about to hot up when the participants of Caroline's online cookery class arrive from various parts of the United Kingdom to meet up with their tutor Margot, who is about to fly in from Australia for a visit. You heard, in order of appearance: Flloyd Kennedy as Ilse, Helen and Margot; Wendy Lap as Rosemary and Katie; Erika Sanderson as Susie and Juliana; Andrea Richardson as Caroline, Christopher McDougall as Duncan, Karim Kronfli as Pierre and Roy R Carruthers as Freddie. An Origin Story
bonusI'm now half way through production of Season 12, which I hope to begin releasing to you by the end of November. In the meantime, here is a bonus for you. It's a recording of a poem I wrote a couple of years ago, inspired by a painting by my then 14 year old granddaughter, Natalie Kennedy. It was performed earlier this year at an event in Liverpool involving poets and jazz musicians improvising along with them. So many people came up after the performance and asked if there was a recording of it, that I decided to go ahead and make one. So Pablo Sonaillon (double bass), Alex McDowall (guitar) and I headed to Crosstown Studios where the fabulous Jon Lawton recorded and mixed it for us. I do hope you enjoy it. Our crowdfunding campaign to raise the funds to pay the professional voice actors for Season 12 can be reached at https://crowdfundr.com/aioySeason12. If you've been enjoying the show, I hope you appreciate just how wonderful these artists are, and how grateful we all are that they've been providing many voices over the past 4 years voluntarily. Just because they love the podcast. We'll be most grateful if you can donate, and also, if you would share the link as far and wide as you can. Thank you. Thanks to Fable and Folly for their support. Bonus : The Perfect Sentence
bonus"Am I Old Yet?" is on hiatus at the moment, while I refresh myself and come up with some more adventures to send Helen on. Meantime, here is an audio fiction I think you will enjoy. "The Perfect Sentence" is a concept album, by Jeff Van Dreason, co-creator of "Greater Boston", and it's available on Bandcamp, Spotify and Apple Music or wherever you stream your music. It's part narrated, part acted, with a beautiful soundscape, and it concerns grief, friendship, art, memory, and so much more. This is the first track, just to give you a taster. S11 Ep 11Oh Susie!
Thunder's Mouth Theatre presents: "Oh Susie!" Episode 11 of Season 11. And yes, it does feel weird concluding a season on an odd number. But, as I'm fond of telling my students and clients, 'weird' is a great word, it means 'something I'm not used to, so I'm expanding my universe'. We pick up where we left off at the end of Episode 10, when Susie offers herself to take up Preshanni's job as the wait staff in Mrs Patel's cafe. Her mother is not happy... You heard Lushika Preethrajh as Mrs Patel, and Flloyd Kennedy as Helen, Janey and Susie. The music is "In the Labyrinth" by John T La Barbera, and you can hear more of John's lovely music on Spotify and on Bandcamp. S11 Ep 7Secrets and... more secrets
This is Part 1 of Episode 10, or you can just call it Episode 10, because Megaphone will call the next one Episode 11, no matter what I call it. Never mind. Helen and Susie are still on a mission to find out what is going on with Preshanni, the young woman who went messing a couple of episodes ago. They know where she is - back with her family in South Africa, but they still don’t know why. Mrs Patel, Preshanni’s former employer, might have the answer, but Susie still has something that’s bothering her, and Helen intends to find out what it is. Enjoy Learn more about your ad choices. I wonder if I can manage to wrap up the mystery in the next episode, in which case that will be a ‘wrap’ for Season 11! This episode was written and performed by me, Flloyd Kennedy. The music is by John T La Barbera, from his album In The Labyrinth, available on Spotify. Written, performed and produced by Flloyd Kennedy., with music by John T La Barbera. S11 Ep 7Nana Goes Gently Into That Good Night
Helen finds herself on the receiving end of some rather disturbing news, and some sad, but not unexpected news. This episodes includes discussions of missing persons, and grief. S11 Ep 6Too Hot to Handle
Episode 6 finds Helen at her favourite cafe, chatting with Ilse about playing card games on her iPad. But before we go there, I thought you might like to know why we call ourselves Thunder’s Mouth Theatre. Back in the day, I played Queen Eleanor in a production of Shakespeare’s play “The Life and Death of King John”. It was produced by John Warner’s production company in Brisbane, and performed at the then abandoned Boggo Road Jail. Our lovely mate Allana Noyes played Constance, Eleanor’s daughter-in-law, and Constance has the most wonderful line that Shakespeare ever wrote: “Oh, that my tongue were in the Thunder’s mouth / then with a passion would I shake the world!” That is how I feel about live theatre, so that is what I named my own company. And now, I use it to do a teeny tiny bit of shaking of the world, in my own small way, with the help of some very good mates. In this episode, John Warner introduces the character of William Askew, OAM. Please Support the Show. You can either leave a one off tip of $1 or £1 (or more) or take out a monthly subscription. S11 Ep 5Who's the Radical Here?
Helen attended the 'gathering' Susie invited her to, where she met up with the mother of Kiara, the charismatic climate change evangelist. They've taken Susie off to the nearest cafe to enjoy something to drink and a heart to heart. With special guest voice actor Lushika Preetrajh as Preshanni and Mrs Patel. Now, you may have noticed that these episodes are arriving at roughly fortnightly intervals these days. That’s because I’m also busy editing the new podcast, Baked Off! Which is a much bigger production than Am I Old Yet? I’ve been trying to raise some funds to pay for a dialogue editor to help me with it, but we still have some way to go. If you’d like to help out, there are a range of perks to be enjoyed, from early access to the episodes to mugs, stickers and aprons, and even a brand new cookbook. The website is crowdfundr.com/bakedoffthepodcast. I’m halfway through editing Episode 4, with only another 4 to go. And it will happen a whole lot faster if I don’t have to do it all myself! Thanks to those of you who have joined the Patreon community. The latest newsletter is on its way to you already. bonusSpecial Announcement: Please excuse this break in transmission - Episode 6 was going to take us to Greece, where Helen is enjoying the scenery and the sunshine. But in view of the terrible tragedy of the wildfires presently affecting large parts of Greece, including Athens itself, I'd decided to postpone that episode till next week. S10 Ep 5Never Mind Wally! Where's Helen?
Helen has gone missing, so daughter Janey and granddaughter Susie team up to track her down. This episode is an experiment, in that it takes the form of a series of telephone calls. A bit like the old 'epistolatory' genre, only using message bank rather than the post office. Let me know if you think it works - drop your response at https://amIoldyet.com/reviews - just a few words would be great. Helen, Janey, Susie and Jennifer are all played by me, Flloyd Kennedy. S9 Ep 11About the Voice and other Thoughts
bonusA glorious spring day, plus the need to keep moving, so I took my phone for a walk and recorded some thoughts. High on my agenda at the moment is the need to keep promoting "Am I Old Yet?", the will to start recording "Baked Off!" and the long held desire to raise the profile of the human voice—what it is, what it means, and what we stand to lose if we fail to respect it.
