629 episodes — Page 11 of 13
Episode 131: BONUS! Hocus Pocus
EHappy Halloween, Mary's! We are FINALLY queening out on 1993's "Hocus Pocus," which is less ooky spooky and more campy vampy, with Matreon alums Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker putting a spell on queers and queens the world over as the Sanderson Sisters. But we spend plenty of time discussing Max's maximum cringe factor, Dani's precarious precociousness, Allison's age and how hot the dad was. (And the bus driver and the fake cop.) By the way, did you know Max was a virgin? Episode 130: Drag Race Season 7 – Born Naked
EWe're HERE, Mary's! H-E-R-E! Season 7 may have been a bit of a slog for everyone the first time around, but in retrospect it's a season of stars! This week we say hello to some favorites--Katya, Trixie, Jasmine, Kasha, Kennedy, and of course, Miss Kandy Ho in the MF'ing house--and keep our queer eyes on queens like Pearl and Miss Fame. The episode is a parade of looks with little precious workroom banter, but Katya emerges quickly as the narrator and Violet shines despite a thorny start. We Mary out on Michelle unnecessarily clocking a bit of boy on the runway, Trixie evolving from outcast to All Star and Jasmine being stoned in the workroom, before bidding a saggy, soggy adieu to Tempest DuJour. Episode 129: BONUS! An Afternoon with Biqtch Puddin
EOur favorite part of Dragula is how much heart the show has (under all the grime and guts), and no one is a better example of that than the current reigning supermonster, Biqtch Puddin. We spent a cozy October afternoon chatting with the Season 2 winner about everything from carving out a unique career path to the perks of picking up tricks in Brooklyn. We got all the gory details on some of the her most memorable looks ("Hey Fred!") and queened out on drag icons like the Boulet Brothers, Disasterina and JonBenet Ramsey. Biqtch Puddin: @biqtchpuddin (Instagram/Twitter) Boulet Brothers: @bouletbrothers (Instagram/Twitter) Patreon: www.patreon.com/alrightmary Email: [email protected] Twitter: @alrightmary Johnny: @johnnyalso (Instagram) Colin: @colindrucker (Twitter) www.alrightmary.com
Episode 128: Dancing Queen
EUnderneath the wigs and lashes and everything else that makes Alyssa Edwards pop (tongue pop, to be specific), there's Justin Johnson, the acclaimed dance instructor and lifelong resident of Mesquite, Texas. This week, we're queening out on Dancing Queen, the first season of the Netflix series featuring the infamous Beyond Belief Dance Studio as well as a deeper look into Justin's relationships with his birth family and his drag family--and a drag number every episode and color commentary from Alyssa serving Higher Self realness. Episode 127: NUANCE – DragCon NYC Reflection + Carrie (1976)
EBefore we head home to Season 7 of RuPaul's Drag Race from our summer vacations into Drag Race Thailand and Dragula, we thought we'd take a week to reflect briefly on DragCon 2018 NYC and give you a movie review of one of our favorite queer movies that deserves a larger discussion: Carrie (1976). It speaks to that queer kid in all of us. Trust me, Carrie....er... Mary.
Episode 126: Dragula Season 2- Episodes 9 & 10: The Last Supper + Finale
EBefore America's next drag supermonster can be crowned (and covered in blood), the exterminated seven are reanimated to join the Top 3 for a family dinner hosted by the Boulets and catered by Meatball, where we FINALLY get into the infamous Monikkie shame. Then it's on to the final floor show. After some compelling testimony in the boudoir from each queen, we get a cavalcade of glamour, filth and horror, including James Majesty getting mustardy, Victoria Elizabeth embracing her inner blackness and Biqtch eating more than just pudding....Which queen will take home in the crown? Well, we spoiled it like five episodes ago. But she more than earns it this episode! Episode 125: Dragula Season 2 – Episodes 7 & 8: Wasteland Weekend
EThe final four pack their bags for a weekend away at Wasteland--think Burning Man, except you might actually see someone lit on fire. Mad Max meets Max Factor in a Four Horseman of the Apocalypse inspired photo shoot before a group performance in the evening that, well, happens. We get a welcomed return from our Season 1 supermonster, Biqtch being the adult in the car, Abhora emerging as the most nuanced contestant, queens beating the snot out of each other with foam bats and LOTS of questions about the logistics and social customs of Wasteland. Episode 124: DragCon NYC Plans!
EHey Mary's! With DragCon NYC fast approaching this weekend, a quick check-in to let you know when and where to find us there. (Mary's who won't be there, don't fret! We plan to live tweet the entire day!) Episode 123: Dragula Season 2 – Episodes 5 & 6: Scream Queens + Gothic Brides
ESeason 2's six remaining supermonsters trek out to the woods to give scream queen realness in Episode 5's slasher challenge, with Peaches Christ and Miss Coco Peru serving us Siskel & Ebert (if they were somebody's sensible aunts). Biqtch Puddin' not only kills the challenge but the extermination as well with her gifable reactions. Then it's a funereal wedding floor show in Episode 6 that ends in an unfortunate divorce with one of the season's standouts. We spend a significant amount of this episode queening out on Disasterina. Patreon: www.patreon.com/alrightmary Email: [email protected] Twitter: @alrightmary Johnny: @johnnyalso (Instagram) Colin: @colindrucker (Twitter) www.alrightmary.com
Episode 122: Dragula Season 2 – Episode 3 & 4: Shock Rock & Metal + SciFi Babies
EHEY FRED! Johnny and Colin discuss the next two episodes of Dragula season 2 and find a new episode to beat in Sci Fi Babies. We go toe to toe on Erika Klash's need for camera time vs. her adult in the room qualities, find a new type of queen in our love for Disasterina, and discuss some of the tea we got from our Marys who are in the know. The Boulet Brothers are flawless of course in their cold opens and in this episode, we point out more of their kindness and knowledge. By the way (in a high pitched voice),"What about 80s Glam Rock was expensive?" Episode 121: Dragula Season 2 – Episodes 1 & 2: Cenobites + Ghost Town Ghouls
EAlright Scary! This week we're diving into the ooky-spooky world of Dragula with a double header of Episodes 1 and 2. Our Season 2 supermonsters are bringing backstory to the boudoir from day one--Abhora abhors Biqtch Puddin', James performs Her Majesty, Monikkie is shameless and Kendra gives us military grade ghoul. Victoria and Abhora shine in both floor shows, Felony makes a fatal flaw, Disasterina serves monstrous mother in her babies dress and the Boulet Brothers host the hell out of the whole thing. Episode 120: NUANCE – Summer Tidbits
EThis week, as we come down from the high of Drag Race Thailand and before we gear up for Season 2 of Dragula, we're catching up on things like: plans for DragCon, delayed thoughts on Pearlgate, Colin's latest feature on In the Details and Johnny's trip to Barcelona, plus some movie recommendations, a moment of appreciation for our sister podcast and a little Mary'ing out on sobriety. Patreon: www.patreon.com/alrightmary Email: [email protected] Twitter: @alrightmary Johnny: @johnnyalso (Instagram) Colin: @colindrucker (Twitter) www.alrightmary.com
Episode 119: Drag Race Thailand Episode 8 – Final Runway
EOur Top 3 Southeast Asian sensations are back for one more round of challenges before the crowning--only this time, it's in front of a live studio audience! Drag Race Thailand's finale may be one of the best--not only do all of the eliminated queens return for a brief reunion and get to give us multiple looks throughout the night, we get Pangina in performance, Art Arya running the show with an iron fist in a velvet glove, a host of past guests on the judges panel (hey Christoris!), a lip sync with ANOTHER twist and fierce final performances produced from head to toe by the Top 3 queens themselves before the winner is finally announced for "Drag Race Thailand debut season!" Patreon: www.patreon.com/alrightmary Email: [email protected] Twitter: @alrightmary Johnny: @johnnyalso (Instagram) Colin: @colindrucker (Twitter) www.alrightmary.com
Episode 118: Drag Race Thailand Episode 7 – The Royal Fire
EOur Thai top four may be at the last 100 meters, but it's going to be an exhausting sprint to Top 3! That being said, Annee Maywong lives up to her nickname (the one we've given her, anyway) of Anne May Win, because she sweeps this entire episode, from makeup mini-challenge to Songkran goddess on the runway. All of the eliminated queens return for a mini-makeover/unconventional materials challenge before the whole cast puts on an extravagant soap opera that puts every other Drag Race acting challenge to shame. The game of musical chairs for Top 3 reaches an emotional conclusion on the runway for our resident pizza queen, but this journey to the finale ends with the same joy and positivity we've come to love all season. Come through, kind media!
Episode 117: Drag Race Thailand Episode 6 – Commercial, Commercial
EDrag queens need to know how to market themselves--and what better way to practice than marketing some SIM cards care of Drag Race Thailand sponsor LINE Mobile! Our resident elephant queen sweeps the episode with her trunk and her charm, while Jaja gets a little coo-coo and Natalia Pliacam gives us flashbacks to the furry in "The Shining." The runway is influencer inspired (even if Chompoo was giving us more influenza with her under the weather appearance on the judging panel)before another shocking lip sync that had us crying, "You've made the wrong decision!" Patreon: www.patreon.com/alrightmary Email: [email protected] Twitter: @alrightmary Johnny: @johnnyalso (Instagram) Colin: @colindrucker (Twitter) www.alrightmary.com
Episode 116: Drag Race Thailand Episode 5 – Snatch Game
EThe library is open and so are our hearts as we watch Drag Race Thailand's first ever Snatch Game! Amadiva blows us all away in her reading challenge, Natalia Pliacam gives us nuance nuance nuance as Miss Sumanee(that's three drinks, Mary), and B Ella blows us all away as she emerges as a comedy queen alongside JaJa. We comment on the first negativity from a guest judge toward Annee May Wong, find our disagreement with the runway/lip sync outcome (an elephant never forgets...), and of course... we are gooped, gagged, and waving our hankies at that intoxicating lip sync! As Pangina Heals says, "Thank F@#$%ing you!"
Episode 115: Drag Race Thailand Episode 4 – Pink Carpet and Thai Movie Runway
EMary, if you are gonna start Drag Race Thailand anywhere but the beginning, start here. We go in this week and love on the nuanced faces of JaJa in the mini-challenge, gag over every runway look (Every. Single. One) and name B Ella as the Pizza Queen we all need right now (Pizza = always good even when its bad). We also hail the production of the runway which sets Drag Race Thailand apart from RuPaul's Drag Race in a very important way. Get into, Mary!
Episode 114: Drag Race Thailand Episode 3 – Curtain to Couture
EEven without the Gone With the Wind reference, the curtain challenge is a classic example of resourcefulness and imagination. The Top 8 are turning drapes and panels into looks, looks, looks--but not before a welcomed return to puppet-based mini challenges. Art Arya is a hoot the whole episode ("Christoris!") and Pan Pan gets cuter by the draped blazer.
Episode 113: BONUS! – Nanette
EAs soon as we both saw Hannah Gadsby's "Nanette," we knew we needed an entire episode to discuss... Get in touch! Episode 112: Drag Race Thailand – Episode 2 – The Power Of Love
EEverybody say love! This week, we head back to the southeast Asian workroom as the remaining nine queens (well, nine once Morrigan comes back from having a terrible time in the bathroom) say "I Do" to themselves in a recreation of the Season 2 "Here Comes the Bride" photoshoot challenge before giving variations on the theme of "the power of love" on the runway. Apparently, that means being pregnant, resulting in this season's version of Kimonogate.
Episode 111.5: NUANCE – Finale Fashion Photo Review (with Grizzly Kiki!)
EBefore we officially close out the season, enjoy some nuanced BONUS content, Mary! Here is the extensive runway rundown we did with the queens from Grizzly Kiki during our Season 10 finale joint recap. Looks looks looks! Episode 111: Drag Race Season 10 – End of Season Awards!
EBefore we say goodbye to a season that has truly been a production, often an ooh-ahh sensation, and occasionally quite brown cow stunning, we celebrate our favorite looks, quotes, moments, queens, and of course nuances of Season 10, and discuss what we'd love to see happen in future seasons. Facts are facts, America--this season may have not always known its words, and its wig may have fallen clear off its head at times, but you've got to give to Season 10: it, nevertheless, still wiggled. (And it also gave us Monique Heart!) Episode 110: Drag Race Season 10 – Grand Finale (with Grizzly Kiki!)
ELet's have a kiki, Mary! We've invited the queens from the Grizzly Kiki podcast over to recap the finale of what has been a marathon of a season! Episode 109: Drag Race Season 10 – Queens Reunited
EIt’s family reunion time at RuPaul’s Drag Race, and let’s just say, sh*t got real. It truly is Asia O’Hara’s Drag Race when she stands up to Ru in The Vixen’s defense, reminding us once again that beyond the glitter and glam, this is supposed to be a community of people. Tears are shed with Dusty and Monique, Vanjie reminds us that she’s so much more than a catchphrase, Kalorie eats popcorn from a sandwich bag, Mayhem creates screen time for herself when none is given and Kameron is crucified in the 11th hour for her coyness. We of course spend a significant portion of this episode dissecting Ru’s interactions with Asia and The Vixen and where things went astray. Patreon: www.patreon.com/alrightmary Email: [email protected] Twitter: @alrightmary Johnny: @johnnyalso (Instagram) Colin: @colindrucker (Twitter) www.alrightmary.com
Episode 108: Drag Race Season 10 Episode 12 – American
EOh beautiful for spacious skies, Mary! The final challenge is upon us fooling nobody with any suspense of the outcome. But we gotta let the kids play, right? Hate all you want on this follow-through episode, but we insist on its importance. We go deep into how these queens are positioned before the live finale, celebrate arguably the most important segment RuPaul’s Drag Race offers to its viewers, and Colin recounts meeting a rather grand “friend” in the lovely Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We're almost done with this season. Who do you *want* to win?
Episode 107.5: NUANCE – “Pose” Premiere + “The Boys in the Band” on Broadway

Episode 107: Drag Race Season 10 – Evil Twins
EEpisode 107: Drag Race Season 10 - Evil Twins by Colin & Johnny
Episode 106: Drag Race Thailand – Episode 1
ETo quote the legendary Gia Gunn, we're just taking a little trip to Asia and landing like fresh tilapia on Drag Race Thailand! With a week off from Season 10, we're getting a head start on this little biddi-biddi TV show's southeast Asian sister by diving into the first episode. We still don't know who wins, but there are a few queens we're already excited about. (To say nothing of "big mama" Natalia Pliacam!) We also go on a tangent about gay cruises, Drag Race music cues, campy competitiveness and Project Runway Season 10 contestants. Our apologies for the sound this week, we only realized after recording that our mic's really failed us. Nevertheless, we wiggled!
Episode 105.5: NUANCE – Untucked + Hurricane Bianca 2 + The Great British Bake-Off
EIn this week's NUANCE, we discuss this week's episode of Untucked, some thoughts on Hurricane Bianca 2, reacting to The Great British Bake Off, plus we condragulations to our Mary's in Ireland and get a whole rack of love from the UK.
Episode 105: Drag Race Season 10 – Social Media Kings Into Queens
ESix camera ready social media mavens make for good TV in this season's makeover challenge. Cracker finally catches a break with Miss Cookie, who joins the legion of breakout makeovers (like Sarge...). We look back on previous season's narrators, spend an inordinate amount of time talking about ugly crying, theorize about the future of Miss Vanjie, thirst for Chester See and ponder a season without our bespectacled narrator as we say a fond farewell to Monet X Change.
Episode 104.5: NUANCE – Muscle Mary: Considering Kameron Michaels
EIn this week's NUANCE, we dive into this week's Untucked, and specifically focus on Kameron Michaels and what her story and significance on the show is, the importance of seeing a successful introvert on television and why the other queens are pushing her to open up.
Episode 104: Drag Race Season 10 – Breastworld
EIn Breastworld, all your fantasies can come true--so long as those fantasies involve Bingo and something to do with chicken. Despite a questionable script for this week's acting challenge, Aquaria finds her niche as a relatable robot (which has sort of been Miz Cracker's thing this whole season, right?) while Kameron struggles with human emotions altogether. Monet wears even less hair on the runway, Eureka taint afraid of no splits in the lip sync and Cracker gets crumbs from the judges once again.
Episode 103.5: NUANCE – Don’t Judge a Queen by Her Cover, Girl
EIn this week's Nuance, we take a deeper dive into who we think Kameron Michaels really is, explore how Eureka's size might influence people's opinions of her and try to decode Aquaria.
Episode 103: Drag Race Season 10 – The Unauthorized Rusical
EWagon Wheel Watusi, Mary! The queens are channeling their inner Chad Michaels to bring us Cher through the ages in this season's live singing Rusical. But first, we queen OUT on Asia's chat with The Vixen in the workroom. We also discuss Aquaria's long con, who really should have won this week and disagree on the amazingness of that lip sync. Plus: Mario Kart strategies, Billy Eichner fantasies and the nuances of air instruments done right (if that's possible).
Episode 102.5: NUANCE – Unpacking Untucked
EIn this week's Nuance, we discuss the post-Snatch Game Untucked--specifically The Vixen and the subtext of her anger. Get in touch, Mary! Twitter: @alrightmary Email: [email protected] Patreon: patreon.com/alrightmary www.alrightmary.com
Episode 102: Drag Race Season 10 – SNATCH GAME
EWell blank me silly, Mary--it's Snatch Game! The top 7 have made it to the heart of the season--and for the Heart of the Season, it's the end of a tough road. (But nevertheless, she wiggled!) We celebrate Monique Heart a little more before turning our attention to this season's panel of celebrity guests. Aquaria's Melania was surprisingly nuanced, while Asia's Beyonce was more Mommie Dearest than Sasha Fierce, with her sights set on The Vixen's not fully realized Blue Ivy. But the real drama is on the runway when Ru stokes the fire by asking who should go home this week... Get in touch, Mary! Twitter: @alrightmary Email: [email protected] Patreon: patreon.com/alrightmary www.alrightmary.com
Episode 101.5: NUANCE – The Declaration of Blair St. Clair
EIn this week's Nuance, we talk about the importance of Blair St. Clair telling her story and our thoughts on trauma healing and the effects of abuse in the queer community. We also spend a few minutes on what's been going on with Tyra Sanchez and give some more love to "Whimsically Volatile."
Episode 101: Drag Race Season 10 – DragCon Panel Extravaganza
EProportionize, Mary! And productize! The queens are creating fantasy DragCon panels and learning what it really takes to pay your rent as a Ru girl. Monet and Eureka are something of a dream team, while Miz Cracker reads Blair to filth but forgets to read the room first. Meanwhile, Monique Heart is running away with this entire season and isn't getting nearly enough credit for it. We explore what Kameron's real backstory is, digest that air instrument incident that happened during the lip sync, and send Ms. St. Clair off with a thoroughly modern Last Chance Lip Sync.
Episode 100.5: NUANCE – Breaking the 4th Wall + Whimsically Volatile
EThis week on NUANCE, we discuss a new appreciation for Miz Cracker, we spend only like a few minutes on the whole Robbie Turner thing, talk about Instagram thirst trapping. and give our thoughts on the recent episodes of Katya's podcast.
Episode 100: Drag Race Season 10 – The Bossy Rossy Show
EGeraldo oh no she betta don't, Mary! Donahue betta work! Dip into the cool waters of Ricki Lake! This week, the queens are guests on The Bossy Rossy Show, a Jerry Springer-like talk show with Ross Mathews behind an authentic pair of red Sally Jesse Raphael glasses and tackling the hard topics: Monet's addiction to eating hip pads, Blair and Monique's love triangle with a cactus, and some strange adult baby fetish play that gave Eureka her first win. Plus: Cracker dressed up like a pickle. We spend some time on Eureka and The Vixen's conflicting damage and their need to be heard, Ross's nuance, that air guitar incident that had happened, and also just queen out on hitting 100 episodes!
Episode 99.5: BONUS! – An Evening with Alexis Michelle!
EWe mention Alexis Michelle on this podcast so many times it's become a drinking game! So we couldn't be happier to sit down with the Broadway queen herself to catch up on life after Season 9, behind the scenes T, the nuances of reading, and what to expect from her new album "Lovefool."
Episode 99: HOT TAKE! Drag Race Season 10 – The Last Ball on Earth
EIt's the end of the world as we know it, Mary's, and the queens are going out in style. We not only get 33 runway looks for this season's ball challenge, but Asia O'Hara as the Mom of the workroom, Monet's history lesson, Ru in a turtleneck, and OH GOD THAT LIP SYNC. And then Untucked got real, and really tricky to talk about. (This is just a hot take, Mary's, in case you missed the multiple disclaimers.) We go in on the nuances of conflict and analyze our own gut reactions to what went down between Eureka and The Vixen.
Episode 98.5: NUANCE – The Optics of The Vixen vs. Aquaria
EWe go in deep on this week's episode of Untucked (surprise surprise), exploring this concept of The Optics, the roles each queen played in the conflict between The Vixen and Aquaria, and what it means to create a narrative. On a lighter note--we also talk about Dragula and Drag Race Thailand!
Episode 98: Drag Race Season 10 – Tap That App
ESwipe right, Mary's! The queens are given the tall task of marketing three new dating apps that simply aren't a match. Asia O'Hara steals the show (and is starting to run away with the season) while Monique Heart expertly captains a sinking ship, due mostly to Mayhem lost at sea. But the real drama, as usual, is in the workroom, as a borrowed wig sets off one of the most interesting conflicts of the series. (We'll go deep on The Optics in Nuance.) We also discuss gays who believe in God, better app ideas, Birds of Drag Race the Sequel and death by air guitar.
Episode 97.5: NUANCE – Why You Need to See Todrick Hall’s “Forbidden”
EOn this week's Nuance, our thoughts on this week's Untucked, queening out on Monet X Change's "Street Beatz" videos, and some high praise for Todrick's new musical "Forbidden."
Episode 97: Drag Race Season 10 – PharmaRusical
EThe queens are pill-popping prescription peddlers in this week's lip sync musical. Kameron, Monet and Aquaria shine despite some strange staging (sorry Alyssa) and confusing costuming, but it was clear from early on that Kalorie and Eureka's thick and juicy tag team would be splitting up shortly. We discuss the many sides of The Vixen, our feelings on Andy Cohen, and of course, the Haunting of Miss Vanjie!
Episode 96.5: NUANCE – BenDeLaCreme Reads Fans For Filth
EIn this week's Nuance, we discuss Dela's open letter to toxic Drag Race fans, and explain how that interview with Trixie happened!
Episode 96: Drag Race Season 10 – Tens Across The Board
ERemember All Stars 3, Mary? Me neither! Season 10 wasted no time gabbing our undivided attention and erasing any woes about where the series is going. The queens this season are not only ready to compete, they are ready to be good on TV. (Monique Heart, where have you been all our lives?) We get a welcomed throwback to Drag on a Dime, focusing more on the artistry of drag--but adding a little lukewarm drama with this emerging Cracquaria feud. (Alyssa vs Coco, this is not.) We come to Dusty's defense, are over the moon for Monet, and it bears repeating, in love with Monique Heart. Kalorie killed in the lip sync, but we're left wanting more of those cookies from Miss Vanjie...(Miss Vanjie...Miss...Vanjie....)
Episode 95: BONUS! An Evening with Trixie Mattel
EOn a snowy spring night in New York, we sat down with the freshly crowned Trixie Mattel to talk All Stars 3, her new album "One Stone"(now available on iTunes *wink*), The Trixie & Katya Show and our hot takes on Season 10. I'm writing this episode description waiting for the "JK," but there was no JK, Kimora. This really happened and it was amazing.
Episode 94.5: NUANCE – The Aftermath of All Stars 3
EPeople are already ranking All Stars 3 as one of the worst of the franchise--are they just in their feelings for a few days or did this season really misstep somewhere? We try to figure out what might have gone wrong, and more so, what nerves were hit. (And why it's not that bad, Mary!) Plus, straight men who watch Drag Race, some new Matreon requests, and the conclusion of this season's Morality Tale!
