S1 Ep 32Episode 33: Retired Border Patrol Officer Lee Pinkerton Talks About America's Legend, The Mustang, Protecting America's Borders!

What a great show we have today! Retired border patrol officer Lee Pinkerton (known as Pinky by his friends) talks about his career and life here in North Idaho.Lee has worn many hats as a lifetime resident of Bonners Ferry and a retired 25-year veteran of the border patrol. A few years ago, he was one of our county commissioners. He is part owner of a sawmill. He is a rancher and hay producer. And most importantly to him, he is a husband and father. Today, some might call him a Paul Bunyan-like lumberjack, always looking for the next tree to cut down. Lee is part of a three-generation border patrol family: his father, himself, and now his son.He is very excited about President Trump and his policies about America's borders. Before the election, there was no way he would have come out of retirement. Today, he would go back and work with his long-time friend Tom Holman, the new border czar. While the southern border gets most of the headlines, there is an increasing number of crossings over the Canadian border into the U.S. While most of the crossings are along the eastern border, our Idaho border with Canada can also be an issue.Lee reflects on his early career years 100 miles from nothing, east of El Paso, TX.He spent many 10+ hour days tracking down illegal immigrants, drug smugglers, and "mules" in the desert southwest. He used many tools, including trucks, ATVs, motorcycles, and helicopters. But his favorite by far was the horse. In later years, he was approached to develop and expand the border patrol's use of horses. It was Lee who initiated and developed the use of the American Mustang as THE horse of choice for the border patrol. That is his buzz phrase: America's Legend, Protecting America's Borders. This eventually led to his riding in President Obama's first inaugural parade.Lee takes time to emphasize the importance of fences on the borders and the need for them in some places along the Canadian border as well.Lee has many thoughts on many issues, including Conservation Easements. He calls them a real danger to America. Lee helped Ted close this podcast with a heartfelt prayer, asking God for guidance and protection and to prepare us for the challenges ahead.

Think 15-minute-city,Could North Idaho see an increase in real estate prices and fire insurance rates?Ted strongly urges listeners to watch the Netflix documentary on Paradise, CA fire. The similarities between that town and Bonners Ferry are concerning. Mark thinks now is the time to contact the state insurance commissioner and local representatives about possible efforts by insurance companies to increase Idaho's rates.Starting now, make your property fire-resistant, prepare a bug-out bag, and have multiple evacuation plans. And get to know your neighbors. Of course, nothing like the LA fire, Paradise, CA fire, or other wildfires will ever happen here, but then again...just in case.

They are waking up.In many ways, the fight is between Individualism and Socialism. While people in North Idaho are firm believers in individual freedom, he is concerned many are guilty of apathy and have a 'hiding' mindset. His biggest goal as a journalist is to give people information so they can choose and think how they want to believe. People must not accept being told how or what to think. And thus his motto - life is a choice! Make an informed choice. To illustrate his point concerning free speech, Justus intentionally uses a word about halfway through the podcast that some might find offensive. So buckle-up!

Joy says, ALL THREE!While his credit card says, "Oh no!" His tummy says, "Yippee!" These shows offer more than crafts and gifts; they also offer lots of pies, cakes, cinnamon rolls, donuts, and other goodies too numerous to list.Plus, the first snowfall of the year has blanketed the area. Yes, it is beginning to look (and feel) a lot like Christmas. But Joy reminds us the real point of these shows is seeing and talking to old friends and making new ones. Ted agrees. But he reminds us that there is also nothing wrong with having a good piece of pie simultaneously.

S1 Ep 18Episode 18: It's Election Time...VOTE!!

You may be surprised to learn that North Idaho is very politically conservative. With this in mind, Ted invites a special guest onto the show to talk about political issues as it's time to vote in America, and North Idaho! Unlike Ted, Elena Quinn, President of the Panhandle Republican Women, brings an informed and involved perspective to the conversation. While local candidates are touched on, Elena's main focus in this election is the issue of Closed Primaries and Ranked Choice Voting. It is on the ballot here in Idaho and could be coming to your state in the near future. Elena and Ted talk about why it is a bad idea. Is it a bait and switch scheme aimed at advancing the liberal, far left agenda? We think so! It is on Idaho's state wide ballot under the name, Proposition One. Also discussed is the local school district bond and supplemental levy items on the ballot in Bonners Ferry. The hotly debated question in our area is whether we build a new grade school. It is expensive and many live on tight budgets in this county. And many also question the need for a new school. Ted closes the conversation with a a biblical perspective on our role as citizens in relation to government. And how this is reflected in our Declaration of Independence.Bottom line: Vote, but be peaceful in accepting the results of this contentious national election.

S1 Ep 15Episode 15: Skating on thin ice. The End Times...What, When, Why! Sort of...

Ted struggles with a chest cold to get this podcast to you. But it wasn't easy. Between coughing, cracking voice, and gulps of water he pushes through, just for his faithful listeners...all 5 of you! And what does he talk about? The End Times, as discussed in the Bible. Ted risks it all as he ventures onto thin ice to discuss this controversial subject. Ted tries to zoom out and take a wide view of the subject that has fascinated him since his teenage years, while admitting there are many views and interpretations. Once again, Ted proves he knows just enough to be dangerous. And why does Ted risk alienating his audience now? Because tomorrow is promised to no one. The clock is ticking. Signs are appearing. Could Jesus be returning tomorrow, next week, next year, or in a hundred years? No one knows for sure. Best to be prepared and ready. Ted then tries to lighten the subject by talking sports. Is tennis the healthiest sport in the world? Ted thinks so, even though his knees talk to him a lot. And it was a great Monday night of Kansas City football and baseball. S1 Ep 6Episode 6: The sound of bagpipe music is the air...as well as cry babies.

Ted keeps trying to do a podcast. What kind of show is this? Ted decides it is a variety show, like the Muppet Show of the 1980s. Meanwhile, back at the ranch the war against the yellowjackets continues. But their time is limited as winter is not that far away. Yes, even in August North Idahoans are thinking about winter. While winter is in the future, Ted treats us to a history lesson. This past weekend was the First Annual (we hope) Bruce Festival. The Bruce was King of Scotland in the early 1300s who won his country's independence from England, after being inspired by William Wallace. Sound familiar? Think Mel Gibson and the movie Braveheart. Bonners Ferry celebrated the Scottish and Irish heritage this past weekend with music and booths and crafts. But, sadly, no jousting. Maybe next year! Ted hopes you enjoy the bagpipe song he kind of recorded at the festival. This week is the Democrat Convention in Chicago. Ted shares his confused thoughts. College football soon kicks off and Ted is all excited about the new season and the new playoff format. It is hard for Ted to sleep at nights now as he is reading the very troubling book, Nuclear War. Ted finds some comfort in an inspirational devotion he shares. And finally, Ted is offering a gift card promotion. Send him an email about the show and, if he airs it, you will get a free gift card! Ted just keeps on trying...
