What a great show we have today! Retired border patrol officer Lee Pinkerton (known as Pinky by his friends) talks about his career and life here in North Idaho.Lee has worn many hats as a lifetime resident of Bonners Ferry and a retired 25-year veteran of the border patrol. A few years ago, he was one of our county commissioners. He is part owner of a sawmill. He is a rancher and hay producer. And most importantly to him, he is a husband and father. Today, some might call him a Paul Bunyan-like lumberjack, always looking for the next tree to cut down. Lee is part of a three-generation border patrol family: his father, himself, and now his son.He is very excited about President Trump and his policies about America's borders. Before the election, there was no way he would have come out of retirement. Today, he would go back and work with his long-time friend Tom Holman, the new border czar. While the southern border gets most of the headlines, there is an increasing number of crossings over the Canadian border into the U.S. While most of the crossings are along the eastern border, our Idaho border with Canada can also be an issue.Lee reflects on his early career years 100 miles from nothing, east of El Paso, TX.He spent many 10+ hour days tracking down illegal immigrants, drug smugglers, and "mules" in the desert southwest. He used many tools, including trucks, ATVs, motorcycles, and helicopters. But his favorite by far was the horse. In later years, he was approached to develop and expand the border patrol's use of horses. It was Lee who initiated and developed the use of the American Mustang as THE horse of choice for the border patrol. That is his buzz phrase: America's Legend, Protecting America's Borders. This eventually led to his riding in President Obama's first inaugural parade.Lee takes time to emphasize the importance of fences on the borders and the need for them in some places along the Canadian border as well.Lee has many thoughts on many issues, including Conservation Easements. He calls them a real danger to America. Lee helped Ted close this podcast with a heartfelt prayer, asking God for guidance and protection and to prepare us for the challenges ahead.

He dismissed the previous undersheriff, who claims he was assured of being retained until he wasn't. It is not a good look for the young and, some say, inexperienced new sheriff. The local school board seems to have a motto of "try, try, again." They will try again in May to get its Maintenance and Operations Levy passed despite being repeatedly voted down by the voters over the past few years. A significant 54% just voted against it in November. Ted's guest on this podcast is Justus of Clayfield.org. He is an independent journalist, videographer, author, poet, and warrior for free speech. And Ted wants to emphasize the word INDEPENDENT!Ted's conversation with Justus takes many twists and turns and is full of surprises.Justus offers many insights and opinions, some of which might make you uncomfortable. But he is fearless in his desire to ask questions and seek answers. In Justus's opinion, people are losing their voice. It has been taken from them, and he wants to help them regain it.But he believes things are changing. People are beginning to realize they all have something they can do to make a difference. They are waking up.In many ways, the fight is between Individualism and Socialism. While people in North Idaho are firm believers in individual freedom, he is concerned many are guilty of apathy and have a 'hiding' mindset. His biggest goal as a journalist is to give people information so they can choose and think how they want to believe. People must not accept being told how or what to think. And thus his motto - life is a choice! Make an informed choice. To illustrate his point concerning free speech, Justus intentionally uses a word about halfway through the podcast that some might find offensive. So buckle-up!

And a woman tells Ted that Terry is a rather good-looking guy. NO WAY!

S1 Ep 18Episode 18: It's Election Time...VOTE!!
You may be surprised to learn that North Idaho is very politically conservative. With this in mind, Ted invites a special guest onto the show to talk about political issues as it's time to vote in America, and North Idaho! Unlike Ted, Elena Quinn, President of the Panhandle Republican Women, brings an informed and involved perspective to the conversation. While local candidates are touched on, Elena's main focus in this election is the issue of Closed Primaries and Ranked Choice Voting. It is on the ballot here in Idaho and could be coming to your state in the near future. Elena and Ted talk about why it is a bad idea. Is it a bait and switch scheme aimed at advancing the liberal, far left agenda? We think so! It is on Idaho's state wide ballot under the name, Proposition One. Also discussed is the local school district bond and supplemental levy items on the ballot in Bonners Ferry. The hotly debated question in our area is whether we build a new grade school. It is expensive and many live on tight budgets in this county. And many also question the need for a new school. Ted closes the conversation with a a biblical perspective on our role as citizens in relation to government. And how this is reflected in our Declaration of Independence.Bottom line: Vote, but be peaceful in accepting the results of this contentious national election.
