In many ways, Mike Peterson is Goose!Mike talks about his days as a top gun naval aviator fighter pilot while helping Ted achieve an important Trifecta!Mike explains how the guy in the front seat of his jet was really just his chauffeur!Nicknames for his fighter groups included: The Ghost Riders, The Jolly Rogers, The Black Lions, and The Bounty Hunters.Over time the grind of three Middle East wars and various scary moments began to drag on Mike.At first Mike was full of hubris and pride but a specific "pucker" moment (he actually had several) caused him to reevaluate his purpose in life. The impact of his many missions began to make him question if God would forgive him.The birth of his special needs daughter also caused him to lean more into scripture.His transition from military life to civilian life led him to a closer relationship with Jesus.Being a strong conservative, one of the more humbling and difficult experiences for Mike was when he became school board president for a liberal school district in Colorado.He has now formed a consulting group where his team of former navy fighter pilots apply what they learned in military aviation to help businesses and individuals with leadership and organizational skills.

During a recent visit back to Kansas, Ted and his son Chase spend time doing guy stuff and visiting about it.After 42 years Chase finally beats the old man in bowling. (Chase cheated!)The two work together (sort of) on making his yard escape proof for his dog, Annie. North Idaho Classical Academy Principle Jacob Francom joins Ted to discuss the new school coming to Bonners Ferry.Opening is set for August, 2026 and the school hopes to compliment the various other schools in North Idaho.Ted wonders what a classical academy is, and Jacob explains what it is and what it isn't.The former Troy Montana school district superintendent is excited about the potential of the school focusing on knowledge and virtue while training the minds and the hearts of the students.The area seems ready for the new approach as parents of 600 students have expressed interest in the school, but only 240 seats are available. Meanwhile, Ted has to consider the opportunity to be the school's mascot. Whatever that mascot might be.

S1 Ep 59Episode #59 Ron MacDonald, Boundary County School District 101 Board of Trustees Board Chair
The Maintenance & Operations Levy Election is going on now, and ends on May 20th. It's time to vote in this important election and Board of Trustees Chairman Ron MacDonald visits with Ted about this election.Ron is a Badger through and through as he was born and raised here in Bonners Ferry and graduated from Bonners Ferry High School. He has been on the board of trustees for over 10 years and has weathered many ups and downs including the difficult time of Covid.He has also lived through several of these M & O Levies as they take place every 2 years here in Bonners Ferry, as they do in many school districts in Idaho.Ron wants to stress that this levy is NOT an increase in taxes. It is a continuation of a tax that has been in place for many years.Budget items are discussed and he invites anyone to come in to the district office and look over the books and visit with administration officials about the needs of the school district and the consequences of the levy not passing.

Ken is a life long resident of Bonners Ferry with deep roots in the community.From Eagle Scout, car body repair, fire fighter, EMT, hazmat tech, to fire chief, Ken has moved up the ladder and has lots of experience.He realizes he often meets people on their worst day so he feels guided by /God to be the light that shines for them at their critical moment of need.Ken also wants to show people that humanity is here to step forward and take care of neighbors.It has been almost a year since he became fire chief and his department fights fires, responds to medical emergencies, helps with car accidents, and rescues cats from trees.He is also in charge of training his volunteers, maintaining the equipment, and balancing a tight budget.It is Ken's goal to have his department ready to respond to whatever emergency presents itself for the people of North Idaho.

The upcoming school maintenance and operations levy is a hot topic in Boundary County and Ted digs deep to get more information about what is a stake.Voting is going on now until May 20th.Ted's goal is to help educate voters on the election, not tell them how to vote.School officials emphasize the levy is a continuation of an already existing tax, NOT an increase!School funding issues can be complicated and confusing, especially for Ted. Topics covered include: District statistics, test scores, teaching strategies, board of trustees, state and national education requirements and funding deficiencies, how national education issues impact local perceptions, the pledge of allegiance, specific school policies regarding furries, cell phones, CRT, pronouns, sexual transitioning, DEI, and more.And, of course, how the failure of the levy would impact the schools and students.
