Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend
1,464 episodes — Page 22 of 30

Alison's Potato Face, Weird Ice Cream Scoops and Six Degrees of Homelessness
EFresh from France with the taste of vomit still in my mouth (oh, did I mention I got sick there because I can't shut up about it) we recorded this episode where we talked about the trip, Jeff's Florida adventure, the weird ice cream scoop that I thought was standard but isn't, the death of Nibbles McGee, Jenna's first Mother's Day, modern dancing, Dutch snacks and so much more. We also did a round of Just Me Or Everyone and talked about an adoptable dog named Mickey.

Jensen Karp
Jensen Karp (Get Up On This) is a true multi-hyphenate. He's a writer, a gallery owner, an entrepreneur, a producer, a manager and a former rapper. And an author: the upcoming Kanye West Owes Me $300 (And Other True Stories from a White Rapper Who Almost Made it Big), due out June 7, chronicles his unlikely rise as the rapper Hot Karl. We talked about his childhood in Woodland Hills, getting bullied for loving rap and hip hop, performing at age 12, rap battles, media savvy, prognosticating trends, lapel pins, OCD, trauma, new clothes and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Alison's Big Question, Jeff's Pot Epiphany, Jenna's Magical Jeans
EShould you wash and dry your jeans before getting them altered? It's a complicated issue and the Thursday gang is here to weigh in. Plus we recount some glorious pants past and talk about the fact Jenna has never had a pork chop and has only recently tried fried chicken. Plus Jeff shared his weed adventure and pot epiphany and I recall the same series of thoughts I would find myself having every single time I was high. Also we did a snack chat with mulberries, a round of Just Me Or Everyone and talked about an adoptable dog named Kong.

Rory Scovel Returns
EComedian Rory Scovel returns to the show to talk about contrived honesty, people pleasing and how being a new father has affected his relationships, pretending to be easy breezy, not feeling the need to be a people pleaser onstage, eating and not eating meat and sugar, his belief that he has zero game, his friendship with Todd Glass, college bodies, being your own boss, Catholic school guilt and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Layoffs, Takeoffs and Greg's Greatest Poop Story
EA few episodes ago we teased a particular Greg story and then didn't get to it and you guys were none too pleased. Here, finally is Greg's spiritual evacuation journey plus some news about Alison and Daniel (no, not THAT news), a Janae story that does not disappoint, sleeping with the lights on and more. We also did a round of Just Me Or Everyone and talked about an adoptable dog named Boogie.

Tiffany Haddish
EI first met comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish (Keanu, The Carmichael Show) when we both appeared on a radio show and ever since then I've hoped to have her on ARIYNBF. I'd heard bits and pieces of her story and got the sense she'd had a rough upbringing but I wasn't quite prepared for the intensity of what she'd experienced. Abusive parents, foster care, living in her car, an abusive first husband, care taking from the age of 8, and even as I write this I feel as if I'm not conveying the particulars that make her story so powerful. And yet throughout, she's joking and positive. In addition, we talked about the importance of trusting your first mind, when she was misquoted by TMZ, auditioning for SNL, the help she received from Kevin Hart, arguing with Dane Cook, Six Flags abortions, eating rat meat, peach jello, audition makeup and so much more. We also did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Al's Bug Out Bag, Greg's Mom's OJ Story, Alison's Aggressive Bed Making
EOrnery Jones and Old Bones Jones make an appearance on this episode as well as Craftsy Joe, Moss the Sauce, Helldog and The Supervisor. Because we were talking about nicknames. Which led to a discussion of The Juice and the revelation that Greg's Mom knew OJ Simpson in college. Plus my new drug, The Walking Dead, disaster preparedness, bed making, a round of Just Me Or Everyone and an adoptable dog named Marbles.

Arden Myrin
EI'm in love with actress, writer and comedian Arden Myrin. I love that she claims to have looked like "a little red-headed gentleman" until she was 19, I love that she describes herself as "silly and rascally" and I love listening to her talk about how for her, stand up has been a spiritual journey. Also, there's the story about what happened to her lady parts while enthusiastically doing the worm onstage but that one just makes me want to cross my legs for eternity. In addition, on this episode we talked about The Bachelor, Arden's parents marrying on a dare and her relationship with each of them, salty dogs, Mad TV and what all the women performers had in common, working as an elf at Macy's, losing her special sauce, body image, insomnia and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Do Women Really Get Mad At Men for Holding Doors? Also: Banana Bread!
In keeping with my New Year's resolution to be more social, I attended Greg Fitzsimmons 50th birthday party where I both had a good time and endured a shockingly painful massage. We also talked about Jenna's cling wrap battles, banana bread, whether women actually get mad at men for holding doors, not knowing about wine, bagging your own groceries, fears of home invasion and so much more. Plus we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone and talked about an adoptable dog named Alpine.

Hutch Harris
Hutch Harris of one of my very favorite bands The Thermals stops by Dining Room Studios to talk about what it's like playing in a band with someone he used to date, how he and Kathy met and why they broke up, Portland's "budtenders," recording the first Thermals album by himself and then putting a band together to play for Sub Pop, coolness not coming naturally to him, his childhood, growing up religious, taking PCP and then going to a church group, losing his virginity, how he got into comedy, anger issues and therapy, night terrors, cats and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter, did a round of Just Me Or Everyone and Hutch played "Thinking of You" and "My Heart Went Cold" from the brand new Thermals album, We Disappear, which is out now.

Pilot Shoots and Lemon Pranks
On this episode we recounted the recent shooting of my pilot and Greg's affinity for on-set pranks. Plus all the coffee I drink while performing, whether people have better sides, sausages, Vanderpump Rules, what #AL knows about pillows, everyone's pillow preference, how to write numbers, frozen dinners and upsetting revelations courtesy of my husband. Plus we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone and talked about an adoptable dog named Mr. Wilson.

Margaret Cho
EFor this very special episode, we went on location to Margaret Cho's house to talk with her about her recent appearance on Korean SNL, things that frighten her, learning how to talk about sexual abuse onstage and the challenge of asking people to laugh instead of cry, choosing anger over forgiveness, the role of violence in art, her upcoming album American Myth (it comes out April 29 and the songs are beautiful and haunting and still stuck in my head and you should definitely get the album), growing up the unhappy daughter of a Korean joke book author, getting English credit for working a phone sex line, the profound effect Robin Williams and Joan Rivers had on her, her favorite style of porn, thinking she was gay and then realizing she was bisexual, evil twin crime shows, body image and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Trash Chat and Buffet Wishes
EIs it rude to not tie your garbage bag before tossing it in the can? This was the genesis of a disagreement in the House of Greg so we moved said conflict to the show. We also did an epic Easter-themed Snack Chat with goodies Jenna and Al brought back from Utah, discussed buffets and Souplantation, discussed the word "plantation" and talked about Alison and Greg's upcoming TV shoot. Plus drug and injection chat in The Biological Clock, Dustin's wedding, Star Wars and Game of Thrones. And we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone and talked about an adoptable dog named Elmo.

Rhea Seehorn Returns
ERhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul) returns to the show to chat about being paralyzed by indecision, the audition process for Better Call Saul (it involved fake scripts and fake characters), the ways in which she is and isn't like BCS's Kim Wexler, auditioning in general and her evolving approach, the "agenda" she had for the first third of her career, what she used to look like, growing up in a chaotic household, why she considers Blink a "spiritual text," the surprising and hilarious way she met her fiance, hanging on to her beat up car as an act of rebellion, adult acne, therapy and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Email Systems and Drifter Butlers
On this episode we talked about complicated restaurant orders, #Al's intense email system, drifter butlers, everyone's bad Australian accents, The Grateful Dead, John Mayer and the return of Yes Please or No Thank You Or Oh, Puh-leeze. We also did around of Just Me Or Everyone and talked about an adoptable dog named Pernelia. (Update, Pernelia has been adopted. But check out Gus and Azul!)

Stevie Ryan Returns
Stevie Ryan returns to the show to talk about kidney stones, being stoned, ballet and how it's helped her depression, depression in general, suicidal tendencies and cutting, being "on pointe," hypnotherapy, sleep eating, body dysmorphia, comedy pilots, auditions, drugs, dudes grinding on you, Tetris and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Alison's Hugs and Big Pink Cats!
Do I give the kind of hugs that could best be described as non-committal and tentative? I think of myself as a distributor of warm snuggly hugs however the feedback I've received of late would suggest otherwise. We delved into this gritty topic along with a discussion of a sex dream involving Jimmy Pardo, my recent consecutive social engagements, a backhanded insult which isn't a thing but it was, Phil Rosenthal's food and travel show, Jenna's tour de force as a cat from the South, St. Patrick's Day, Al getting a tweet from LL Cool J and so much more. We also did a round of Just Me Or Everyone and talked about an adoptable dog named Leonna.

Jen Kirkman Returns
Jen Kirkman returns to Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend to talk about all sorts of stuff including her new book which I loved so much I wanted to crawl inside and live there, I Know What I'm Doing And Other Lies I Tell Myself: Dispatches from a Life Under Construction (out April 12th but available for pre-order now), Twitter battles which aren't really battles, Bernie Bros, commonsenseytocin, "lulz," how she used to see herself, the feeling that one's too loud, Mittens, fun coats, how she chooses a restaurant, Ronnie Kirkman, Australia, relationships and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Curds, Interventions... and Fish Butts!
Superfan Meghan brought us cheese curds from Wisconsin so this episode features a cheese-centric #SnackChat. We also talked about Greg's voice doppelgänger on Intervention, coming home to find your landlord in your apartment unannounced, whether fish have butts, #AL's fear of being wrongly accused, Greg's guitar collection, fake smiles and the photo posing tip Victoria Beckham shared with Greg and so much more. We also did a round of Just Me Or Everyone and talked about an adoptable dog named Cindy.

Greg Behrendt
Comedian and author Greg Behrendt stopped by Dining Room Studios to talk about all sorts of things including the complicated effect being a consultant on Sex and The City had on his life and career and the way he spun out when fans of the book and cultural phenomenon he co-authored, He's Just Not That Into You, began showing up in droves at his comedy shows. Women wanted to hear him do a "TED talk about relationships" but he was there to do standup. We also discussed his decision to host a daytime talk show, getting diagnosed with cancer while on tour in Australia, fatherhood, drug addiction and the impact it's had on his marriage, Janeane Garafalo, Oprah, music, sobriety, podcasts, upcoming projects and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Ski Trips, Mean Girls and Special Guest Little Esther
Little Esther joins us while Greg becomes one with the sea this week for an episode in which we determine the worst age and discuss who was a mean girl and who was tormented by mean girls. We also chatted about Daniel and my recent ski trip, the burden of being God's gift to the slopes, Southern Utah accents, the road trip from hell, tampon strings, super uncomfortable layers, Jeff waking up with a bug up his butt and so much more. Plus we did a round of just me or everyone and talked about this week's adoptable dog Cameron who's waiting for you at the Downey Shelter.

Nikki Glaser Returns Again!
Nikki Glaser may be the first repeat Monday guest we've had in Dining Room Studios which puts her in an elite group of one, despite that fact that her therapist Donna tries to impress upon her she's just average. The last time Nikki and I talked, she was shooting a talk show pilot about sex for Comedy Central. She's now moved to Los Angeles and is hosting that same show, Not Safe with Nikki Glaser. On this episode we talked about a video she claimed was satisfying but which slightly traumatized Jeff and me, the guilt she feels for being tired all the time, working with her boyfriend who is also an executive producer on Not Safe, the time she fainted on stage, liking to talk about things people don't normally talk about, getting over childhood hurts, first kisses, feeling betrayed as a teen when friends matured at a faster rate and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Nibbles McGee's Big Adventure
You guys, I fell off the carb wagon, and how, so I talked about that in a shameful #SnackChat segment. We also talked about Scotch kisses, butterfly kisses, people who live in glass houses, something called Meat Dip, a stirring open letter to the salsa industry, the mindfuck pulled by The Bachelor's Caila, an upcoming ski trip and so much more. Plus we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone and talked about a dog named Gwen who is available for adoption.

Alex Blagg
Alex Blagg is the kind of overachiever who makes you feel as if you aren't doing enough with your life/career, but in a completely charming way. In addition to being the co-creator and executive producer of @midnight, he writes for Workaholics, helms (along with two partners) a successful production company, writes feature scripts and is raising twins. And he doesn't even seem stressed. We talked about what brought him to this point: growing up the son of "cool Jesus" parents, moving around, renouncing the fratboy path he was headed down in favor of film and literature, doing comedy, working as the managing editor for the Best Week Ever site, taking a job in LA that was ultimately demoralizing and then inadvertently turning his own life into performance art/parody as a social media and tech guru also named Alex Blagg. We also talked about his addiction to flossies, how he met his wife, getting sober eight years ago and more. Plus we took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Personality Quizzes and Tupperware Angst
Before recording this episode we all took the Keirsey Temperament Sorter personality quiz and then revealed our results on air. Then #AL told us what it all means according to David Keirsey's Please Understand Me and what each of our personal hells would look like. It was surprising to learn which members of the gang have the same personality types. We also talked about important matters like people who steal Tupperware. Plus we discussed "No Substitution" policies at restaurants and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Gustavo Arellano
I knew Gustavo way back when I was leaving the OC Weekly and he was starting there. He came out of nowhere it seemed and was suddenly writing a zillion articles a week which, I heard at the time, didn't exactly endear him to the other writers. He went on to gain attention and notoriety with his now nationally syndicated "Ask a Mexican" column, author three books and become the editor-in-chief of the paper. He also regularly appears on radio programs and is a consulting producer on Fox's animated Bordertown. We chatted about his beginnings and how he got to where he is today including growing up the son of "Mexican hillbillies," not quite fitting in, falling in love with film and Pulp Fiction in particular, being a nerd, being repeatedly unaware of office politics, the satirical letter that changed his life, his relationship with former OC Weekly editor Will Swaim and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Bunk Beds, Chopped Salad and Special Guest Susie Meister
We're minus #AL but plus special guest Susie Meister on this episode where we talked about our different interpretations of a common cliche, which is the better bunk bed should one find him or herself needing to bunk, Greg's issue with chopped salads, meeting Janae, Party Girl and other assorted Kim Jones Mosses at Samantha's baby blessing and so much more. We also talked about lady's underwear and #GALCHAT. Plus we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Michael Ian Black
I've been a fan of actor, writer and comedian Michael Ian Black for years so it was a real treat to have him stop by my podcast during one of his trips to Los Angeles. We talked about his podcast How to Be Amazing and his approach to interviewing before delving into some of the meatier topics explored in his most recent book—which I loved and highly recommend—Navel Gazing: True Tales of Bodies, Mostly Mine (but also my mom's which I know sounds weird). We chatted about growing up in a home filled with rage, growing up without much male influence, his gay-but-not-aware-of-it-yet mother being subjected to shock treatment by her parents and his theories about what led to this, his choice to live in Connecticut and thoughts about Los Angeles, whether people expect him to be more snarky than he is and his desire to be a good person. Plus we took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Barnhouses, Broken Noses and the Birth of a New Segment
We got to the bottom of what #AL knows on this episode and we also debuted a new segment that Greg can't remember the name of. Plus we debated precious notebooks, talked about the whereabouts of Jenna and Al's baby, discussed the butt stuff that does or does not go on in fraternities and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone. Also: oodles of other stuff!

Jake Fogelnest
I like to think I was something of a precocious whippersnapper, but writer, director, producer, podcaster, television personality Jake Fogelnest (Wet Hot American Summer, Billy On The Street, Difficult People) has me beat. At age 7 he wanted to be John Waters... and then actually contacted and spoke with John Waters. (I merely wrote a fan letter to animal expert Joan Embery and received a perfunctory written reply.) He went on to host a public access show, Squirt TV, from his bedroom in Manhattan which was later picked up by MTV all before going to rehab at the age of 17. Eventually he found UCB which is when, he says, his real career began. We discussed all this plus Terry Gross, The Monkees, the difference between Adam Driver and Ryan Seacrest, sobriety, resentments, self-care, selling out and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Statistics, Probability, Tension and Soup
Ok look, this was a weird show. There was tension, embarrassment, statistics and probability (part of our fledgling "What Does #AL Know" segment), egg talk, a discussion of soup, music and whether it's better to have a lot of lights on or very few. Also we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone!

Kate Micucci
I first met comedian, musician, actress and artist Kate Micucci years ago when she and Riki Lindhome performed live as Garfunkel & Oates at my first live Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend show at UCB. I've wanted to have her on the show solo to really delve into all things Kate ever since. On this episode we talked about the ways in which she's the same as she was as a kid, what she was like as a kid and her close relationship with her parents, crying at school because she missed them, being a late bloomer, her first kiss, going to three colleges, her love of sunsets, puppet making, her favorite musicals, school dances, hitchhiking and why she stopped, being poor, how she broke into commercials, meeting Riki and writing their goals on napkins (she still carries one with her to this day), sitcoms, relationships, being sheltered, swearing and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

What Does Al Know???? (And Another Salad Debacle)
This episode features the birth of an on-the-fly-off-the-cuff segment entitled, "What does #AL know?" in which we attempt to figure out the titular question and also, how the game works. We also talked about sports and finance which is unusual for us and I detailed yet another salad debacle. Also I just had blood drawn and I think my vein hurts which is neither here nor there and has nothing to do with this episode but just saying, weird arm sensation. And we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone and Daniel revealed some of my secrets.

April Richardson
Comedian and podcaster April Richardson stopped by, hoarse from singing David Bowie songs at the top of her lungs the night before, to talk about all sorts of stuff including growing up an only child and how she thinks that impacts her relationships today, what she was like as a kid, not getting along with her stepdad or stepbrothers, her relationship with her mom, her relationship with her father who she only met a handful of times, how she felt when she learned her father was dying, forgiveness and anger in general, dating type A guys, living in England with an unrequited crush before coming back and going to college, her obsession with Bob Odenkirk, working at Chelsea Lately, recently meeting Mark-Paul Gosselaar (she's the world's biggest Saved by the Bell fan and hosts Go Bayside!) and her thoughts on marriage, ghosts and pedicures. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Finicky McPrissy and the 600 Questions
If you've ever wished to go to dinner with me, you won't after hearing this episode. Also, we talked about Jenna's ice-pack maxi-pads, things Greg overheard at the Farmer's Market, junkyard kittens, things Greg feels shame and guilt about, my experience on Anna Faris's podcast, Daniel's feelings about food, car washes, the new show intro and more. Plus we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone and I even took a video during the segment.

Susie Meister
You might know Susie Meister from her many seasons on MTV, first on Road Rules and then on The Challenge. Or maybe you know her from her podcast Brain Candy which she hosts with fellow MTV'er Sarah Rice, or the one she hosted before that, The Meister Piece. When she first popped up on screens she was known for being super religious (pentecostal) but over the seasons her beliefs changed and now she has a different relationship with religion, along with a PHD in Religious Studies. We talked about her experience on MTV and her thoughts about reality programming in general, her morphing relationship with religion, how her mom feels about her no longer being born-again, motherhood, marrying the sound guy, hoarding versus purging, Timmy from Road Rules, scrunching versus folding when it comes to wiping and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Magicians, Hypnosis, Things Placed Inside Alison
My God, who names these episodes? Just kidding, it's me, the person who was awake for a harrowing surgical prep and who has maybe changed her mind a little about Versed because it turns out certain kinds of discomfort cut right through the haze and wake you right the fuck up. Also waking me up? The steroids they put in the IV during the last egg retrieval. But this episode isn't only fert alerts, we also learned what everyone did for New Year's Eve. One person's evening involved a magician! Also we discussed hypnosis, both the parlor trick kind and the therapeutic kind and then we had an extra special snack chat involving chill pipes and Utah's own chocolate cinnamon bears. Then things nearly came to blows over Red Vines vs. Twizzlers and other controversial candy and we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Jay Larson
I met Jay Larson back when I was a guest on The CrabFeast and have wanted to have him on my show ever since. It finally happened and I learned all sorts of things about the man like the fact he has about 12 memories of his father, he now auditions for parts where the characters are described as “surprisingly handsome” which has got to be a bit of a kick in the nuts since he was THE SHIT in high school and definitely handsome in a way that was obvious not surprising, he lives life in the moment and he and his wife ride their bikes to the local playhouse. We also talked about fatherhood, how he met his wife, relationships in general, how he differs from his CrabFeast cohost Ryan Sickler, his love of rude people, Best Bars in America and so much more. Plus we took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

The New York Odyssey and Our Special Year End Episode
Sure you could let Ryan Seacrest count down your New Year's eve but wouldn't you rather do it with us, your new best friends? We did a full on count down with noisemakers that you can sync up to midnight. Did Alison's landlord call in the middle? Oh yes. But surprisingly it wasn't about the noise! Also on this special year end episode I recount Daniel and my New York odyssey which included a lot of vomit and an encounter or two with TSA. Plus we talk about our New Year's resolutions, Greg's text exchange wherein he tried to talk his 13 year old nephew out of a Paul Reed Smith guitar, cacao, snack chat, the upcoming new website, Jenna and Al's time in Utah, the significance of this year (recorded on the anniversary of THE EMAIL) and so much more. We also did a round of New Year's Eve themed JMOES. Happy New Year, everyone!

Alex Buono and Rhys Thomas
Writer, producer, cinematographer Alex Buono (SNL, Documentary Now!, Bigger Stronger Faster) and writer, director, producer Rhys Thomas (SNL, Documentary Now!, Staten Island Summer) head up Saturday Night Live's film unit which means they're responsible for shooting all those funny filmed bits you see on the show. They also handle SNL's opening credits every year—a discovery which led to my learning two of my favorite new terms: "lens whacking" and "pixel sticking." On this episode we talked about the experience of working on SNL and the process of shooting the filmed pieces, holding panic at bay, how they met each other, racing against the clock, working with Lorne, Alex commuting to NYC every week, how they each got their start, the process of directing, producing and shooting Documentary Now!, early films they made, other projects they're working on and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me or Everyone.

Winter Wonderland Holiday Spectacular!
Our Christmas episode doesn't start out very Xmasy if I remember correctly and warning for those who listen around young kids who still believe in Santa: at one point someone blurted out that Santa isn't real. We also talked about Merry Christmas versus Happy Holidays and my strange relationship with Judaism and why it sometimes feels icky when people make a point of saying "Happy Holidays" or rather, why it felt icky growing up. But this one isn't all conflict and outing Santa. We also talk about soda wars, what everyone's doing for the holidays, Greg's eczema, favorite Christmas programming and an off-the-cuff Christmas-themed #AL quiz. Plus we did a round of holiday themed Just Me Or Everyone. (This just in: on the episode I referred to it as an "extravaganza" not a "spectacular." It's both!)

Bill Schulz
Bill Schulz (Red Eye, NY Times) and I go way back to my early-ish days in New York when we both worked for magazines and played on separate competitive skee-ball teams. We forgot to talk about skee-ball but we talked about everything else and I mean EVERYTHING, even when it got a little uncomfortable. Anyway, as I explain on the show, I worked for a magazine and had started appearing regularly on television and thought I was hot shit so when fellow magazine writer Bill told me Maxim UK editor Greg Gutfeld was coming back from England to start a TV show and he was going to be a part of it, I was pretty sure it wouldn't last because I was probably the only writer to successfully make the transition to TV because let's face it, people who work at magazines are not on-camera people. That show was Red Eye and I was spectacularly wrong. Bill was a fundamental part of the program so like a lot of people, I was pretty surprised to hear he was no longer with the show. We discussed his leaving—along with some comparisons of our separate similar experiences—plus some of what led up to the split and his feelings about the situation. We also talked about his writing career, his New York Times column, men's magazines, relationships, his childhood, discovering a dipshit character in Amy Schumer's Trainwreck may or may not have been based on him, lavish company Christmas parties, wardrobe budgets, talking politics, acrimony and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

The Salmon Incident, Al's a Cat, Elevator Fears
Greg and his somewhat productive cough are back which means this episode wastes no time in jumping into the most important topic of the day: Jenna and #AL's avocado tree. Also we talk about Daniel and my upcoming trip, The Salmon Incident, what might be on your phone, superhero comics, what kind of kids we all were and whether we wanted to be older, get rich quick schemes, male vs. female therapists and therapy in general and plane and elevator fears and by the way I am still haunted by the elevator discussion! We also did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Zoe Lister-Jones
Zoe Lister-Jones (Whitney, Arranged) stopped by this episode of Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend to talk about Consumed, the dramatic indie thriller she and her husband Daryl Wein recently made which is the first narrative film about GMOs—and we did talk about it—but first we had to chat about the period of time she and her husband had an open relationship and the movie they made about that experience called Breaking Upwards. We also talked about the one woman show Zoe did years ago in which she played multiple characters including a deaf vagina, growing up the child of artist parents in Brooklyn, feeling sympathy toward men, seeking unavailable men, playing Joe Biden's legal counsel in the upcoming Confirmation, how to make a rat scratch itself on cue and animal entourages, sad burgers, shopping for toilet paper and tampons in bulk and so much more. We also took your questions over twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Adults Who Eat Baby Food (with special guest Mike Carano)
Greg was sick for this episode and afraid to spread germs to the newest member of the Thursday gang plus the people who care for her so he sat this one out but sent a very special recorded message which was only rivaled in beauty by length. Sitting in for Greg was someone who is vaguely similar, recent Monday show guest Mike Carano. I say vaguely similar because like Greg, Mike also wonders if Jenna, #AL and Mormons in general judge him. On this episode we also talked about being "natural" parents, whether Mike is a good judge of character because he realizes he's a bad judge of character, a couple stories from Daniel and my recent visit with Daniel's mom, bawling through Frozen and other movies and musicals, the stress but also the liberation of self check out, being shamed by bank and fast food employees, adults who eat or have eaten baby food (GUILTY! BUT ALLOW ME TO EXPLAIN), the current ordeal I'm experiencing thanks to spinach, suspecting you'll be irritated by Flea and the Jackass guys and so much more. We also did a round #SNACKCHAT and a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Jack Barakat and Justin Siegel
Jack Barakat, lead guitarist for the pop punk band All Time Low and co-host of the Full Frontal Radio podcast was scheduled to be the only guest on this episode so I was surprised when two faces greeted me at the door. "This is my buddy Justin," Jack said as he walked in. "Is it cool if he sits in?" I agreed, since I am an agreeable person, but spent the first many minutes before the mics were on saying, "Wait, who are you and what do you do and what's going on?" It's weird when you've researched the crap out of only fifty percent of your guests. As it turned out, I shouldn't have worried. Justin (who himself is a musician and music exec) and Jack go way back and having Justin there brought a fun dimension to the interview since he was able to provide another perspective and first hand account of many of the topics we touched upon including Jack's investment in rock and roll bars, his relationships and friendships with Holly Madison and Abigail Breslin, his dating habits, writing new material, anorexic aliens, a bathtub full of cheese, black Amex cards, how he met Holly, breakups, whether he's still just a guy from Baltimore, how someone becomes big in Japan, major labels, signing a record deal in high school, partying, chasing a hit single, Bod body spray and what his bandmates smell like, recording his podcast on the road, his childhood, fleeing war torn Beirut when he was a baby, music theory, Rivers Cuomo and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

There Was No Curtain! (But There is a Baby!)
Samantha Moss makes her Alison Rosen Is Your New Best Friend debut on this episode and by that I mean she was sleeping like an angel a few feet from the table while we all cooed and our hearts melted. Before the show Greg met her for the first time and announced, "I like holding babies. Holding babies is a thing I like to do." So if anyone is wondering, that's where Greg stands on baby holding. On this episode we got the low-down from Jenna on labor which involved, among other things, a balloon and a hairbrush. It did not involve modesty or a curtain. We also talked about insomnia and my attempts to rid myself of it, everyone's Thanksgivings, pomegranates, toilets, afterbirths and so much more. And we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Dana Gould Returns
Dana Gould and I sat down for a very rare, honest and unflinching conversation about his recent breakup and divorce along with his experience adopting three children. We also talked about the genesis of his podcast, his thoughts about gun control and the NRA, Al Anon and the two memories that bookend his marriage. I say "rare, honest and unflinching" because I am under the impression Dana doesn't normally pull the curtain back this far. If he does, I DON'T WANT TO KNOW. I'm pretty convinced this is an exclusive and also a hot scoop. You know, the kind of thing that would have made me yell "podcast boner!" if I weren't so calm and collected. Anyway, I love Dana and think he's one of the best comics around and loved this chance to get to know him a little better, cold hunk of peanut butter and all. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving from Alison's Nose Whistle
Daniel and I just had a hearty debate about whether it's a mistake to reveal whose nose was whistling right in the episode title. I pointed out that we already revealed it on last week's show but then he said it's possible people might have missed that one and he personally enjoyed the way it "revealed itself organically." And now here I am, non-organically shoving the info into the show title. Except what are my options, I ask you? "Happy Thanksgiving from Someone's Nose Whistle?" "Happy Thanksgiving from a Mysterious Nose Whistle?" Actually, both of those would have worked but as the woman who did my makeup at my wedding said to me when she put the wrong shade of lipstick on me and I pointed it out, "That ship has sailed, sister!" (I AM TOTALLY OVER IT AND I DEFINITELY DON'T BRING UP MY BURNT SIENNA LIPS WHENEVER I TALK ABOUT MY WEDDING.) Anyway, on this special Thanksgiving episode which was recorded before Jenna had her baby, we talk about all the things we're thankful for as well as toxic pans, Twilight Zone and even more egg talk. Plus we did a round of Just Me Or Everyone. Happy Thanksgiving you guys!

Josh Wolf
Though I only met comedian and author Josh Wolf (Chelsea Lately, The Josh Wolf Show, Fairly Normal with Josh Wolf podcast) over Twitter a few weeks before we did this episode, I felt like we were fast friends. We chatted about all sorts of stuff including toxic work environments and not wanting to work with assholes, covert assholes, his experience being a young single guy raising three kids, visits from the health department, terrible bangs, how he met his wife and relationships in general, taping socks to his armpits, opening for Sam Kinison at the start of his career, Chelsea Handler and Joey Diaz babysitting his kids, getting kicked out of the ocean and so much more. We also took your questions over Twitter and did a round of Just Me Or Everyone.
