Episode 193: UTSA's first ever title rematch

The Roadrunners and Hilltoppers are set to play their third game in less than a year as the 2021 C-USA championship game rematch kicks off this Saturday in the Alamodome. There's a high degree of familiarity between these two programs, but there's also a lot to learn about WKU's new faces on the roster, including their surprise starting quarterback Austin Reed. WKU also has a new offensive coordinator, and it's a name that only the most hardcore of UTSA football recruiting junkies will recognize. Could there be bad blood between WKU's new play caller and the Roadrunner program? We also cover some news around the UTSA program, including a newly-rescheduled road trip to Baton Rogue to face LSU in 2027. Be sure to check back later this week as we'll be recording an NIL "State of the Union" for UTSA athletics exclusively for our Patreon supporters! Subscribe to the podcast

Episode 192: Taking care of business in Murfreesboro

The Roadrunner started off conference play on the right foot with a decisive 45-30 win over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. Frank Harris threw three picks and the defense struggled to bring down ball carriers, but an improved running game and a resurgent pass rush made a world of difference for UTSA. Frank Harris leaned heavily on his big three receivers as he set the school single-game passing record for the second straight week. Stay tuned for episode 193 coming later this week as we preview the big rematch of the Conference USA championship game. P.S. -- Our Patreon subscribers enjoyed early access to this podcast. Episode 191: Friday Night Lights in Murfreesboro

The Roadrunners stumbled through one of the ugliest 28 point wins you'll ever see as Texas Southern of the SWAC took UTSA to four quarters. UTSA definitely wanted to rest their starters after a grueling three game stretch to start the season, but the Tigers wouldn't let it happen. We wade through what went wrong for UTSA (scheme, physicality, tackling), as well as the shining positives (broken school records, young standouts, the emergence of a return specialist). While UTSA exits the out-of-conference slate with a respectable .500 record, they won't have much time to recover from injury before flying out to Murfreesboro for a Friday night kickoff on national TV. The Blue Raiders are coming off one of their strongest performances in several years as they knocked off a ranked Miami team last weekend. UTSA will have to bring their A game if they're to start conference play out with a road win. Be sure to check back later this week as we're joined by Sam Doughton to get an in-depth breakdown of Middle Tennessee's season thus far. Subscribe to the podcast

Episode 190: Belonging with Bevo

The Roadrunners gave UT-Austin a proper scare as UTSA traveled heavy to Austin to show Longhorn fans that 210 football is for real. There's no doubt the Longhorns were the better team, but it's not hard to dream up a scenario where the Roadrunners could have secured an upset. We recap that game both on and off the field before launching into an extensive Texas Southern preview. We'll also be hosting a mailbag episode of the podcast this week, exclusive for our Patreon subscribers. Drop a comment on this post to submit a question for us to answer this week. Anything is fair game! If you're not a Patreon subscriber follow this link to get signed up for all of our bonus content. 0:00 - Both Adrian and Jared had wonderful experiences in Austin, including some funny encounters with some UT-Austin fans. We're both excited to make a return trip to DKR in the future. 19:37 - The UTSA coaching staff came in with an excellent game plan to make it a close contest with the Longhorns. While Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson proved to be too much for the Roadrunners, Jeff Traylor's squad proved that they were clearly capable of hanging with the best teams in the country. 32:11 - A very tough and physical out-of-conference slate for UTSA has the Roadrunners piling up injuries, with 21 players making an appearance on the injury report this morning. We do our best to start listing some of these guys, while also acknowledging what it means for the short and long term prognosis for the program. 38:48 - UTSA's difficulty in attempting to tackle the Longhorns' running backs shows the importance of recruiting elite athletes, even if they don't make a huge impact on Saturdays. 43:19 - The Roadrunners are currently among the most-penalized teams in the country. Can UTSA break out of the funk? Will it prevent them from reaching their goals this season? 59:43 - Texas Southern is on the upswing thanks to an incredible young quarterback out of Corpus Christi. We break down the Tigers' strengths and weaknesses before giving our predictions for a final score on Saturday. Subscribe to the podcast

Episode 189: From West Point to West Campus

It wasn't pretty, in fact at times it was quite ugly, but UTSA earned their first win of the season last weekend after knocking off the Army Black Knights in the program's second overtime match in as many weeks. We recap that road trip and preview a highly-anticipated meeting between UTSA and the flagship of the UT System on Saturday. 3:34 - Jared's experiences traveling all the way to West Point, New York to see the Roadrunners take on the Black Knights 13:23 - Why were the Roadrunners so sloppy and unprepared against Army's triple option attack? 24:16 - While it wasn't a very clean win for UTSA, it was still a highly impressive one. We take stock of what went well for UTSA against one of the perennial top dogs in the Group of Five. 55:19 - The time has finally come for UTSA and UT-Austin to meet on the gridiron. We reflect a bit on the moment and what it might mean for the Roadrunner program. 1:05:21 - Unfortunately the Longhorns are extremely banged up following their close loss to Alabama. We break down the injury report and try to anticipate what the Longhorns' offense will actually look like on Saturday. Subscribe to the podcast

Episode 188: UTSA preps for Army's triple option

Alright that's enough pouting from everyone -- it's time to lock in on this week's opponent, the ever-challenging Army Black Knights. Jeff Monken's squad got handled pretty well against Coastal Carolina on the road in week one, but they're sure to put up a tougher fight back on the banks of the Hudson. Can UTSA earn their first-ever win over the cadets? We talk a little bit about the perceived mood of the team heading into Saturday morning's contest, as well as speculate as to some of the practice preparations we suspect UTSA might be undergoing. While long-time listeners are probably well familiar with Army's triple option attack, we do offer our new subscribers a crash course in the art of the base play which makes the triple option so complex and deadly. Lastly we really dive into Army's roster and top players, including an All-American edge rusher who will look to make the most of UTSA's incredibly-depleted offensive tackle position. Episode 187: UTSA lets a ranked upset slip through their hands

I think we're all ready to put this game to bed, but lessons must be learned from defeat. We split our game recap and next week's preview into two separate episodes so that we could fully digest an absolutely massive triple overtime game against Houston, as there was simply a ton of takeaways to share from the season opener. Yes, the Roadrunners dropped a game that they had in the bag. Yes, there were mistakes uncharacteristic of Jeff Traylor's program. But to walk away from this game anything other than impressed with this team's capabilities seems short-sighted. This Roadrunner team looks to be special once again. While signs of encouragement were abundant, the Roadrunners did suffer a brutal loss when Makai Hart when down with a serious injury in the first quarter. The starting right tackle was primed for a breakout season but now the Roadrunners will have to move forward with an absolutely gutted depth chart at the offensive tackle position. We also spent some time discussing the positive, instant impact UTSA's group of transfer additions made as players like Nick Fortune and Joe Evans showed why they were standouts at the P5 level. We'll be back on Tuesday evening with a Patreon bonus episode where we provide some deep analysis of Will Stein's offense, discuss the new College Football Playoff 12-team model, and recap some initial showings from Conference USA in 2022. Our Army preview will come on Wednesday as the Roadrunners will look to bounce back from a painful set back against Houston. Bettors are already placing their trust in the Runners as they've grown to a 2.5 point favorite over the Black Knights. Subscribe to the podcast

Episode 186: #24 Houston Cougars Preview with The Scott & Holman Podcast

Oh baby, we're BACK back. Welcome to game week. Feels good to say. Pass the jello shots and the sausage wraps. We start off the podcast by addressing the (unfortunate) elephant in the room. Ticket sales leading into the home opener are just... good... not great. Is a crowd of 35k really a disappoint? Is there a lack of buzz around the season? We dive into specifics with some takes that might get us flamed on Twitter! At the 15 minute mark we start diving into the surprises and notable additions to the depth chart. The Roadrunners had some young offensive linemen make the jump into the two deep, while the position battle at left tackle rages with a third competitor entering the fray. After a quick cumbia break we're joined by Sam and Dustin from the Scott & Holman Podcast 35 minutes in to the pod. Thanks to Sam and Dustin for sharing their expertise on the Coogs as we prepare for what will assuredly be a highly entertaining content between two strong, veteran-filled teams in the Alamodome this Saturday. Be sure to check out their podcast this week to learn more about Houston's roster, as well as to hear our take on how UTSA matches up against the Cougars. You can follow Sam and Dustin at @SHPawdcast on Twitter. As a reminder, don't forget to catch us LIVE at the Alumni Association tailgate at 12 pm on Saturday as we'll be featured guests for a live pre-game show, College Gameday style. Episode 185: 2022 Season Preview

It's that time folks. The Triangle has re-assembled. Campus is bustling with activity again. Bottles of Fireball are flying off the shelf as the tailgaters finalize their preparations for the season opener. And of course, we're back in the saddle for another season of bi-weekly podcasts. We start things off with some announcements and housekeeping, as Jared shares his reactions to his first visit to Taco Palenque. At 13:29 we begin discussing this year's version of the Triangle of Toughness. These players are voted into single digit jersey numbers by their peers and coaches, with the most respected players donning the 2-1-0 San Antonio area code jerseys. After the cumbia break we begin breaking down the Roadrunners' schedule at the 31:15 mark. Like Adrian says, this season is really going to come in waves. UTSA's ability to weather the choppy waters will determine whether or not they'll be able to repeat as conference champions. Lastly we wrap things up by discussing our biggest fears for this season (1:13:00). The next week of content here at alamodomeaudible.com is gonna go crazy. Episode 184: Performance Science with Coach Ryan Filo

We're back in town after an exhilarating rush through beautiful Chicago for Jared's bachelor party. We wasted absolutely no time in getting back into the swing of podcasting, as we were fortunate enough to have Ryan Filo, Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance at UTSA, join us on the podcast for an incredibly insightful interview. Coach Filo walked us through the growth of the strength and conditioning program at UTSA, and how all sports are benefitted by the additional headcount in the department. We also walked through the affect the Roadrunner Athletics Center for Excellence is having on UTSA's strength program, and how technology is a core aspect of everything Coach Filo and his staff implement in training Roadrunner athletes. This description just scratches the surface of the conversation so be sure to tune in. Interview begins after the 14 minute mark.

We also discuss the new "Lets Go 210" marketing campaign UTSA has launched, and debate the proper pronunciation of the Countdown City's area code. Lastly we introduce Lisa Campos' latest impressive head coach hire, Matt Wernecke of the Men's Golf program. The native Texan brings an impressive resume with him to San Antonio.

Episode 183: C-USA Media Day and 2022 UTSA Fan Survey

Let's face it, Frank Harris's orange slippers stole the show at Conference USA media day. Of course we talk about the drip, but we also try to parse out the real talk from the coach speak at media day. Credit to Conference USA for putting on a pretty nice event! (C-USA officials stop reading) At the break (26:50) we dive into the results of our first UTSA Fan Survey. The response was really reassuring, as we received over 150 responses to the survey. Key takeaways? Most UTSA fans appreciated Conference USA, but its flaws were extremely aggravating. Roadrunner fans love the current leadership on campus, and really can't wait to be in a conference with SMU. You can read this post for the full survey results. The next time we step behind the microphones it will be football season! Let's get it.

Episode 167: UTSA puts their money where their mouth is

Another week, another massive step forward for the #16 UTSA Roadrunners. Jeff Traylor is now the highest-paid coach in the Group of 5, and there's no questioning UTSA's commitment to winning big and winning often. The Roadrunners must now convert this huge momentum into a win over a surprisingly-strong UTEP Miners team in a primetime battle for the C-USA West title on ESPN2. Women's soccer also secures their biggest win in program history, and the basketball teams prepare to tip off their seasons.
