Why Do We Downplay Creepy Men When They're Hot?

Hi, hello! We kick things off on a really light note this week: with an existential crisis (seriously what is the point of life?) that started off as an off-air chat that we decided to hit record on. Then it’s onto Gen Z, who are they single-handedly saving democracy. Why are they so much cooler than us? And while we’re at it - why do we have a royal family in 2020? Is the monarchy the next casualty as we start tearing down outdated monuments? Plus, with Ansel Elgort the latest male celebrity to be accused of sexual assault, we dissect the troubling power dynamics when celebrities date their fans. Plus, if we all agree that it’s fundamentally creepy for grown men to date teenagers, why are we so cool with it socially? Do Drake and Leonardo DiCaprio get passes for their creepy behaviour simply because they’re hot? All this and more. WTF Is Going On With The Wing?

It's been a big week for Instagram apologies, resignations and cancellations. We look at the mass controversy surrounding The Wing - once dubbed the 'feminist Utopia' and now mired by a string of shocking staff abuse claims - many racially motivated. With the likes of Bon Appetit and Man Repeller among the media companies pulled into the fray, we ask whether or not white editors resignations actually help things (or is it just a cop out?) and what does a road to redemption look like? Plus, 15,000 people marched for Black Trans lives in Brooklyn - how are the feminist, BLM and LGTBQ+ movements failing our trans community? This is Not The Time For A TERF War

JK Rowling's terribly timed Twitter rant about trans women has us all googling 'TERF' - what is a 'Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist' and are they as awful as they sound (yes). What happens when your sentimental childhood heroes let you down? And how long can we excuse ignorance in our public figures? Then it's onto the police! Why is there now a mainstream movement to 'abolish' the police force? What does that mean and what does it look like? And why are we - two sceptics who, at first glance, wrote it off as 'ridiculous' totally on board with the move? Then it's onto Lea Michele, Reformation and brands and people that have been 'cancelled' after posting about #BLM. How rampant is this hypocrisy? And will things actually change longterm?Recommendations:Who Counts As A Woman by Carol Hay in the New York Timeshttps://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/01/opinion/trans-women-feminism.html 13th documentary on NetflixUnbelievable on Netflix Hosted on Acast. Is Instagram An Actual Tool For Change?

The Black Lives Matter protests are still going in the US, prompting marches and tributes everywhere from NZ to London. In such a pivotal time for the movement we discuss whether posting on Instagram is helpful, why we shouldn’t be focusing all our energy on looting, how to actively engage in anti-racism and why it’s so important that we don’t think of this as just an American issue. Then, we move onto the ‘cancellation’ of fashion brand Sporty & Rich - the tides turned as fast as founder Emily Oberg’s ‘Health = Wealth’ T-shirts flew off the shelves during a global pandemic. Is the backlash over Oberg’s comments about wealth really the problem? What part do we have to play in the promotion and success of brands? And why do we keep putting young, untrained women on a pedestal - then knock them off when they inevitably fail? And, let’s be honest, wasn’t it ALWAYS tone deaf to wear ‘Sporty & Rich’ shirts in a global pandemic? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Lana Del Rey And The Pitfalls Of White Feminism

Last week we talked about white fragility and white feminism, this week we're seeing it in action all over again. Queen of the Sad Girls™️ Lana Del Rey landed herself in hot water this week with her strange and ill-advised Instagram PSA, suggesting there is no 'room for people who like her' in the culture. What is she talking about! And how does race a play a role? Plus, how Scarlett Curtis' raw honesty is opening up the conversation about depression, a new rom-com to sink your teeth into, and a break-down of The Times' big deep dive into Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's escape to LA. What Happens When It Really Is The End Of The F*cking World, With Jessica Barden

It's our second episode of After Work Drinks With and we are so very excited to be chatting to Jessica Barden. Starting as an actress in her early teens, Jess nabbed roles alongside the most formidable names in British acting, including Saoirse Ronan, Carey Mulligan and Olivia Colman. But it was her critically acclaimed role as Alyssa in Netflix’s mega-hit The End of the F*cking World (incidentally one of AWD's favourite TV shows of the last few years) that made her a household name. Now, she's taking on Hollywood, with a whole bunch of major new films in the works. We caught up with Jess from her garden in LA, discussing everything from quarantining with your partner to how therapy is helping her manage anxiety, portraying trauma on screen, sexism and classism in the film industry and how it feels to get 2 million Instagram followers overnight. We loved making this episode and can't wait for you to hear it! Let's Talk About Something Uncomfortable... Race

After Alison Roman apologised to Chrissy Teigen and Marie Kondo, we took to Instagram to praise Chrissy for her graceful response. But we showed a blind spot in the process - how quick the world is to downplay the racially charged comments of white women. After an amazing listener called us out, we got her on the phone to talk through this textbook case of white feminism in action - and it came not a moment too soon. As we - and the rest of the world - felt sick to our stomachs about the murder of Ahmaud Arbery, we had already decided to try and wade into the tricky, often uncomfortable topic of race. Why are white people so unwilling to acknowledge their own inherent biases? Why do we think that racism is 'someone else's' problem? And why do we always end up relying on people of colour to explain to us how to dismantle a system that we are responsible for creating? We tackle all these questions, with varying success, in this episode - we'd love to hear your feedback. Thanks to Crystal Andrews for being a guest on this episode. Her first book, 'How To Win Every Argument', is available now. Some things everyone can do: - Change our consumer habits: look at how many books you own which were written by people of colour, who directed and stars in the movies you watch, the magazines you buy, the stories you’re engaging in - Look around us and notice when there’s no minority groups in the room- Analyse the power you have at work - do you have the power to hire new staff? Is your workplace diverse? If not, why not, and is there anything you have the power to do to change it?- Call out casual racism always - Read about our history and follow (and engage!) with people of colour and minority groups- Look for initiatives that relate to causes you're passionate about and dedicate resources, either money or your time.- Sign petitions and share the news. Ep 83A Love Letter To Magazines With Alexandra Shulman

Hello ducklings. Welcome to a brand new episode of After Work Drinks. The question we get asked the most from our listeners is about our jobs - and so this week we're dedicating our episode to our first love: magazines, and on that front, we're incredibly excited to be speaking to formidable editor Alexandra Shulman CBE. Alexandra is the longest-serving editor in the history of British Vogue, with a formidable career that spanned GQ, Tatler and Vogue. She is responsible for some of the most iconic fashion imagery from the last three decades and has nurtured some of the most exciting writing talent. As she celebrates the release of her new book, Clothes... And Other Things That Matter (out now!) - already a Sunday Times best-seller - she chats to us about working in magazines during the shiny heyday on the '80s, documenting the grunge movement of the '90s in the pages of Vogue, and what she thinks the future of print media will look like. What The Fizz Stick?

'Hello everyone!' This week we are naturally knees deep in Normal People - the adaptation of Sally Rooney's 10/10 novel that has us all swooning and missing being horny teenagers. Money and class are huge themes in the series, which sent us into a rabbit hole about money, shame and how the size of our bank accounts are playing a determining factor in how stressful we find this pandemic. Then it's on to all things Arbonne. A viral article has us obsessed with the phenomenon of cult-like MLM beauty brands. What is an MLM? What is a fizz stick? Plus, we discuss 'Run', Vicky Jones new HBO series and fan-girl over her and Phoebe Waller Bridge's friendship/creative partnership (similarities? Who? Us?) Then, we touch on Florence Pugh, Zach Braff and the endless question of the Hollywood age gap. Is it all just puritan finger-wagging? The Lonely Hearts Club

No, you’re not going even crazier than expected in isolation: today is Wednesday and it’s our new episode release day because we love to keep you on your toes. On the agenda, a look at infamous influencer ‘scammer’ Caroline Calloway’s response to her former best friend Natalie’s tell-all article which leads us to discuss the wider influencer industry’s movements - to the Hamptons, to be exact - during this global pandemic, resulting in the viral hashtag #covidiots. Then it’s a deep dive into dealing with loneliness during isolation: why we need to use the terms ‘connected’ and ‘unconnected’ to describe people rather than looking simply at their relationship status, whether social media contributes to or helps to combat it and how being vulnerable is the answer to helping us all feel more together (even though we’re physically not). Hello and welcome to week 3 (or whatever it is) of self-isolation. Naturally we’re knee deep in all things Tiger King - the Netflix series keeping us all distracted during this dark time. Please enjoy our thoroughly non high-brow discussion about how batsh*t insane the whole thing is. Plus, a whole dose of new TV, podcast and reading recommendations; why House Party is embroiled in some insane hacking drama; and Lena Dunham’s adorable new serialised novel, published in Vogue during COVID. Most importantly, we have a very special treat for you this week in the form of one Maggie Hewitt - the designer behind New Zealand powerhouse label Maggie Marilyn. Since launching in 2016 Maggie Marilyn has been worn by literally everyone, including Meghan Markle, Michelle Obama, Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez and every editor, influencer and It-girl worth their salt. Above all, we admire Maggie’s commitment to sustainability - something she has been totally uncompromising on and has championed since she launched, back when nobody was willing to listen. We talk to Maggie about ambition, navigating the business world as a young woman and how to battle eco-anxiety, and we hope you love listening to this chat as much as we loved having it. We understand the catch-22 of A) not wanting to hear another thing about COVID-19 and B) not being able to think about literally anything else, so we're bringing you an extra long double-pronged episode. We've interviewed beautiful nurse and friend of the podcast Phaedra Gurton about why self isolation is so important, what 'flattening the curve' means and how to support the already-overwhelmed medical industry. Plus, we've collated a handful of tips for dealing with epidemic anxiety and the stress that comes with being home alone for weeks on end. If you're not wanting to hear about the crisis at all, skip forward to 32:00. Here, we'll give a big ol' list of reading, watching and listening recommendations and distract you with every little tidbit of mindless celebrity news we could muster. We also answer life's existential questions: Should millennials join TikTok? Why is Isabelle sexually attracted to gay men? Why is Ben Affleck so annoying? Why is Donna the best? Do You Like Me?

Hello for the third time in 8 days. This week we’re covering the full gamut of topics: Why the monarchy will miss Meghan and Harry; a perfect essay on fame and sexism by Lena Dunham; the catch-22 ’likability trap’ that stunts all women’s success and a final deliberation on Back With The Ex. Plus, Harvey Weinstein is going to prison but Roman Polanski is winning French Oscars and Woody Allen would be writing a multi-million dollar memoir (if not stopped by the efforts of his estranged son, Ronan Farrow). Why, oh why, are we still having to deal with these two - given everything we know about their treatment of children? And is Woody Allen’s cancelled book deal a victory for #MeToo or censorship, as Hadley Freeman suggested in a column in The Guardian? Then we inevitably lose our minds about how depressing everything is and need to google pictures of Zendaya and her cute boyfriend to calm us. Let’s Hear It For The Girls

Hello our wonderful, empowered batch of queens. Happy International Women’s Day! We’re celebrating by offering you a whole extra bonus episode, covering some massive feminist topics of the moment. Like: When will we see a female US president? And how do we tackle the oh-so-sexist ‘likeability’ issue? Plus, a new feminist flick 'Misbehaviour' looks at intersectional feminism through the realm of beauty pageants - a true story from the ‘70s that raised questions we’re still struggling to answer today. Izzy interviewed the director and star Gugu Mbatha-Raw and talks about the powerful acts of ‘quiet feminism’ both women perform in their careers. Then it’s all about Halima Aden - the megaforce supermodel and activist who has become an advocate for Muslim representation in fashion. Halima is in London to support the Pandora Charms for Change launch - an event we attended alongside her last night for International Women’s Day. Plus, we got to speak to model, dancer and actor Larsen Thompson and artist Tasya van Ree about how they’re pushing feminism in their lives. In short, plenty to be stoked about! Happy listening.Pandora are our sponsors this episode - and we love their new campaign because it raises much-needed funds for UNICEF, who are working to promote women’s education worldwide. Catching Coronavirus Hysteria

Bonjour! Two Parisienne women who can’t speak French here, ready to fill you in on our latest escapades from Paris Fashion Week, including North West’s surprise appearance which prompted some backlash online, and, more importantly, our latest reality TV obsession which could be even better (worse) than Love is Blind. Grace has her time in the sun and gets us up to date with US politics, including but not limited to what fake tan Donald Trump should use, and then we touch on the coronavirus: How bad really is it? How scared should we be? And is it actually necessary to be stockpiling toilet paper in Australia? You can follow us on Instagram: @afterworkdrinkspodcast, @grceoneill, @isabelletruman, or join our closed Facebook group, After Work Drinks Podcast. If you’d like to show your support, please rate, review and subscribe and share AWD <3 Recommendations Back with the Ex, Love is BlindToday in Focus - is Britain prepared for a mass outbreak of the coronavirus?https://www.theguardian.com/news/audio/2020/mar/04/is-britain-prepared-for-a-mass-outbreak-of-the-coronavirus-podcastThis episode is brought to you by The Outnet. Love Is Blind... Or Is It?

We survived Milan Fashion Week and, more importantly, the coronavirus, which had everyone scrambling to leave the country as we watched Love is Blind from a hotel room (please welcome Jessica as AWD’s newest mascot). Off the back of our busy week - and a few major travel mishaps - we discuss imposter syndrome, being overly critical of oneself and wearing op-shop cardigans with confidence. Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of two counts of predatory sexual assault: why Rose McGowan was one of the first people on our minds and whether the actress’ criticism of Natalie Portman’s Oscars gown was valid. Plus, another word to add to the AWD dictionary: ‘Jareh’, an Assyrian word to describe someone who you feel sorry for because they’re a bit embarrassing. Eg. “Jarrod from The Bachelor is so jareh” or "Izzy talking about her cardigan is so jareh."You can follow us on Instagram: @afterworkdrinkspodcast, @grceoneill, @isabelletruman, or join our closed Facebook group, After Work Drinks Podcast. If you’d like to show your support, please rate, review and subscribe and share AWD <3 Recommendations: Love is blindNYT Me Too tally nytimes.com/interactive/2017/11/10/us/men-accused-sexual-misconduct-weinstein.html Hosted on Acast. Ep 65It Costs Nothing To Be Kind

Grace has discovered an unknown dating show she deems better than 'Love Island' and we briefly explore the term ‘negative self obsession’, before diving into the backlash aimed at Jameela Jamil this week and the awful phenomenon of social media pile-ons. Which brings us to our big topic - Caroline Flack, the British TV presenter who tragically died by suicide this week. Many have dubbed hers a ‘death by media’ or ‘death by trolling’, adding to an ongoing question about how to handle the mainstream media’s reckless harassment of (mainly young and female) celebrities. Where do we lay the blame? And how can we, as individuals, strive to be kinder - both to people in the public eye and the people in our own lives? To investigate, we open up about our own experiences with mental health and depressionRecommendations:Love is BlindAs Me With Sinéad (With Florence Welch)000 is the national emergency number in Australia.Lifeline. We made a joke about it, but Lifeline is an amazing 24-hour nationwide service that provides access to crisis support, suicide prevention and mental health support services. Welcome To Casa Amor

On the agenda this week, Izzy has discovered Love Island and now we’ll literally never hear the end of it and Grace wants to talk about ambition a bit more. Plus, Harvey Weinstein’s deranged lawyer spent 35 minutes blaming his victims in a truly fucked New York Times interview. Is it time we started talking more about the phenomenon of female misogyny? Finally, let’s dive into the OSCARS. We’re doing our usual red carpet debrief (Natalie Portman, ily) and celebrating the unexpected wins of Parasite’s Bong Joon-ho and Jojo Rabbit’s Taika Waititi. But most of all, we investigate why the Oscars are still so bloody white (and male) in 2020. Why has this conversation been going on for decades without any real change? And how do we - as Joaquin P so eloquently put it - break down the system? As always, rate, review and subscribe (it’s your feminist duty). Being Good Girls

A lack of Friday night plans led to both of us simultaneously watching Taylor Swift's Netflix documentary on opposite sides of London - Izzy, for the cats and Grace, so she could out speculate about yet another celebrity conspiracy theory. 'Miss Americana' covers a lot of ground, including Swift's relationship status, her eating disorder and her obsession with being a 'good girl'. We discuss what that phrase means for us as people-pleasing, anxiety ridden psychos and why women hold themselves to such impossibly high standards. Enter: J Lo and Shakira's Super Bowl half-time show, which prompted an age-old feminist fight online, a relevant discussion when it comes to the latest Victoria's Secret exposé. Just Change The Bloody Date

Long forgotten Goop-esque sex workshops and secret Reiki healer qualifications are just the start of this ep, which covers everything from the problem with viral Netflix documentary ‘Cheer’ to debriefing on Betty Dodson, the 90-year-old woman and new AWD mascot who’s taught over 9,000 women how to orgasm. On a more serious note, we speak about the devastating death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna and how the media has handled wrestling with the fact that Bryant was a basketball legend and inspiration to millions who was also accused of raping a woman. Plus, Australia Day. Why are we so stubborn about changing the date of Australia’s national holiday when it currently causes so much pain for the country’s indigenous people? A Grown Up’s Guide To Heartbreak

It’s been a whirlwind of a week, featuring a trip to Switzerland, a 12-hour stint in the emergency room and – of course – the (sort of) reunion of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston at the SAG Awards. But what we’re really talking about this week is heartbreaks - heartbreaks of the big, earth-shattering, how-the-hell-do-I-get-over-this variety. How do you navigate a break-up in your late 20s, when it feels like everyone else is getting engaged and having babies? Are women conditioned to fear being alone? Why is it that single men are seen to be ‘choosing’ to be single, while single women are still seen as ‘unable’ to find a partner? And why do we continue to feel as if break-ups are personal failures? You can follow us on Instagram: @afterworkdrinkspodcast, @grceoneill, @isabelletruman, or join our closed Facebook group, After Work Drinks Podcast. Please rate, review, subscribe and tell your mom about us.Recommendations:Podcast: Today in Focus - where did it all go wrong for Harry and Meghan?Show: Morning Wars/The Morning Show, Line of Duty Hosted on Acast. Ep 60Unpacking Megxit

There was plenty to dissect in Hollywood this week, with the Oscar's releasing their embarrassingly middle-aged-white-dude nomination lineup and Harvey Weinstein's trial beginning in New York. Why can't the entertainment industry get a handle on their diversity problem? And why - after more than 80 women levelled accusations at Weinstein - is his trial hinging on the testimony of only two women? Plus, the topic we were desperate to sink our teeth into: Meghan and Harry's shock decision to step away from their 'senior royal' title. We unpack the serious aspects involved - the sexist treatment of MM in the media, for one - but also the most bizarre stories to emerge from 'Megxit', including surprise appearances from Oprah, Jessica Mulroney and Madame Tussauds (?).And you asked, we answered: This week Grace shares another embarrassing childhood incident involving physical activity.Recommendations: A crash course in climate change https://grazia.com.au/articles/bushfires-climate-change-government-action/Netflix: Before the Flood Elizabeth Wurtzel:'Prozac Nation''On Her One Night Stand Of A Life' in New York Magazinehttps://www.thecut.com/2013/01/elizabeth-wurtzel-on-self-help.html'When Beauty Fades' in ELLEhttps://www.elle.com/life-love/sex-relationships/advice/a10010/failure-to-launch-when-beauty-fades-323090/Podcast: Fresh Air - Boys & Sexhttps://choice.npr.org/index.html?origin=https://www.npr.org/2020/01/07/794265007/boys-sexPodcast: The Daily - The Case Against Harvey Weinstein Part 1 & 2 https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/09/podcasts/the-daily/harvey-weinstein-trial.htmlPodcast: The Witch Hunt by The Guardian Australiahttps://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/series/witch-huntBook: Three Women by Lisa TaddeoMovie: Parasite (2019) Hosted on Acast. Our House Is On Fire

Climate change is directly responsible for the severity of the Australian bushfire crisis and if change isn’t made now, the devastation we’re seeing - lives lost, homes destroyed, a billion animals dead - is just a taste of what’s to come. So what do we do? To explain exactly what’s happening to the world, why the Earth’s temperature is rising, how this is going to cause irreversible damage and Australia’s huge part in the climate emergency, we did a crash course in climate change. Izzy spoke to a scientist and climate change expert to help us understand, in simple terms, exactly what’s happening in Australia right now. Plus, in a moment where everyone is feeling helpless and useless, we break down all the simple, real-world ways you can contribute to slowing down (or eradicating!) the climate crisis. Listen now and please share what you learn - or this episode - with your friends.THE STATS: The global average temperature is currently warming 5x faster than ever beforeAs the Earth’s temperature continues to rise, crises such as the bushfires go from bad to catastrophic.Australia is the world’s third-largest exporter of fossil carbon, behind only Saudi Arabia and Russia. This means Australia is one of the worst countries in the world when it comes to impacting global warming.CO2 has contributed more than any other driver to climate changeWHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN Huge change worldwide to ensure the Earth’s temperature doesn’t rise above a further 1.5 degrees.Global warming is due to greenhouse gas emissions, the biggest contributor to this being carbon dioxide which is caused mainly when we burn fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas or cut down and burn forests.Government needs to make huge changes immediately, especially in Australia. Individuals need to think actively every day and implement the below. TO DO: Demand government action to lessen fossil fuel emissions in Australia (and wherever you live in the world), plus school up on what the government is doing (or not doing) currently. Eat less meat, whether that’s something like Meat Free Mondays, just eating one meal with meat per day or just eating meat when you eat out and not buying it at the supermarket. Instagram recipe inspiration: @deliciouslyella, @livegreenhealthy, @thedeliciousTake public transport, walk, bike places, cut down on flights (and Carbon offset the flights you do take! It’s surprisingly affordable. Websites like Websites like Co2nsensus offer services.)Avoid packaging - carry a tote bag, carry a keep cup, avoid straws and avoid buying anything packaged where you can (even if it’s recyclable!). Plus, look for things made from recycled materials.Plant trees! If you can’t physically plant trees, go to One Tree Planted or Trillion Trees, charities which will plant trees on your behalf.Consume less. Shop secondhand and don’t order multiple sizes of clothes online so you can return one (they often get thrown out, not resold!)Links to read:Australia and fossil fuel: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/commentisfree/2019/sep/24/australia-has-dodged-global-attention-on-fossil-fuels-because-of-assiduous-diplomatic-effortsAvoiding meat and dairy is the single biggest way to reduce your impact on the Earth Hosted on Acast. New Year, Same You

As we crack open this bottle of cab sav - simultaneously breaking our ‘dry January’ resolution, we discuss whether our never-ending quest towards self-improvement, something which is never more prevalent than at the beginning of a new year, is actually just making us hate ourselves. Should we throw out our self help books in favour of giving less of a shit? Plus, if our recent digital detoxes are anything to go by, 2020 looks to be the year of being ‘medium online’ - where we’re not completely offline but not living on there, either. Ep 57Have You Guys Heard Of Harry Styles?

We’re going to play the ‘better late than never’ card today regarding one Harry Styles - the man who needs no introduction (apart from to Izzy) and has finally stolen our hearts. Aside from the obvious (his face), we're discussing how men like Harry are setting a new precedent when it comes to style and sexuality and how he and men of his ilk (here's looking at you Timothee Chalamet and Donald Glover) are offering a much-needed update on what modern masculinity can look like. The Case Of The Stolen Valentino Dress

We are depressingly not recording this episode from a hotel room in Rome (crying), but there's still a lot on the agenda. From how the maid who's selling Lady Gaga's Golden Globes gown via an online auction got her hands on it in the first place (and why the police were involved), to 'the inbetweeners' of the fashion industry - the models who are neither sample, nor plus size - and why we need more of them. Then, we have our first parental argument over whether kids should be able to express themselves with makeup after Kanye West banned his 6-year-old daughter North West from wearing any and a discussion about Emma Sulkowicz, AKA 'Mattress Girl', the woman who became a campus sexual assault activist in 2014 who now kicks it with the conservatives. You can follow us on Instagram: @afterworkdrinkspodcast or join our closed Facebook group, After Work Drinks Podcast, and we'll love you always if you rate, review and subscribe. What Would Miley Do? - And Should She Do It?

On the (very varied) agenda this week: a deep dive into Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner’s split (and his probable secret girlfriend), the extreme lengths Harvey Weinstein went to to stop the publication of the 2017 NYT expose and the brilliant work of non-fiction we implore you all to read. Plus, our thoughts on Hailey Baldwin’s wedding dress and Miley’s love life before we get serious again to discuss whether the backlash to ‘The Joker’ is really valid. Oh, and let's not forget Grace’s new form of cardio that potentially involves Russian hackers. Pls enjoy with a pinot in hand. For more AWD, you can follow us on Instagram: @afterworkdrinkspodcast or join our closed Facebook group, ‘After Work Drinks Podcast’. No Bad (Bieber) Energy

AWD is officially 1! For our first birthday, Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin decided to get hitched, so we dissect the snippets of info we have at the time of recording (still waiting on that dress pic, Hailey). Off the back of the climate strikes and Greta Thunberg's incredible UN speech, we talk about people's ridiculous aversion to change and how our all or nothing attitude towards sustainability and vegetarianism is preventing us from saving the planet. Plus, our first look at Archie Harrison during Meghan and Harry's royal tour of South Africa (spoiler: sore ovaries) and Unbelievable, the Netflix show we can't get enough of. Ep 47Phoebe, Greta And Leslie

After a brief (and unplanned, sorry) hiatus, we’re back! First on the agenda, a quick debrief on Milan Fashion Week and Grace’s trip to Shanghai, before we catch up on the (boring) Bachelor finale and the Emmys red carpet. Grace has a few good book and TV recommendations and we’re both OBSESSED with a new podcast that’s being dubbed the female ‘Dirty John.’ Off the back of Tavi Gevinson’s piece on Instagram for The Cut, we talk about growing up in the age of Insta. You can follow us on Instagram: @afterworkdrinkspodcast or join our closed Facebook group, After Work Drinks Podcast. Recommendations: Listen: Unravel: SnowballRead: Three Women by Lisa Todayeo Who would I be without Instagram?https://www.thecut.com/2019/09/who-would-tavi-gevinson-be-without-instagram.htmlWatch: Unbelievable - Netflix, Victim Hosted on Acast. Is Caroline Calloway Even That Bad?

Izzy made it to the UK alive, but not without consuming copious amounts of Rescue Remedy due to the UK holding her passport hostage. But a few mimosas later, she lands safely and heads straight from the airport to see Queen Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the flesh for ‘Fleabag.’ This week, we catch up on the New Zealand Netflix rom-com that deserves the opposite of an Oscar, the Adnan Syed documentary that confused us both, and, most importantly, the Caroline Calloway expose written by the Instagram influencer turned scammer's former best friend. Revisiting Kanye West Vs. Taylor Swift 10 Years Later

Last week's MTV VMAs marked 10 years since Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech, kicking off the celebrity feud of the decade. After Izzy rewatched the footage and Grace read a new T Swift profile, we discuss the whole drama, and examine how Taylor Swift, a decade on, may still be missing the point. Plus, is everyone except us and Kirsten Dunst intermittent fasting? She is our new celebrity crush - offering us all a lesson in abandoning vanity (and selling your shit when it doesn't fit you anymore). And on a more serious note: how the palace got dragged into the #MeToo movement and what Prince Andrew's chubby fingers have to do with anything. Read:Taylor Swift: I Was Literally About To Break in 'The Guardian'https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/aug/24/taylor-swift-pop-music-hunger-games-gladiatorsKirsten Dunst On Meeting Her Soulmate and Her Toughest Job Yethttps://www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/porter/article-698def72f7984a41/cover-stories/cover-stories/kirsten-dunstListen: The Daily - Why Uber Still Can't Make a Profit, The Daily - The First Women to Report Jeffrey EpsteinYou can follow us on Instagram: @afterworkdrinkspodcast or join our closed Facebook group, After Work Drinks Podcast. Pls, rate, review and subscribe <3  Hosted on Acast. We Should All Be Mirandas

This week we bring you a very special episode, in conversation with the brains behind our favourite Instagram account. Chelsea Fairless is a legend - as one half of @everyoutfitonsatc she has created a pop culture phenomenon, responsible for everything from #WokeCharlotte to those ‘We Should All Be Mirandas’ tees. This week she's in the studio to discuss all things ‘Sex and the City’ - who had the best (and worst) wardrobes? Why did Miranda dump Robert? Who was Carrie's one that got away? And, most importantly, why did Carrie buy Louise that horrendous purse? Plus, we get up to speed on the latest Liam/Miley drama and get serious about Hollywood’s highly questionable treatment of Roman Polanski.Pre-order Chelsea and Lauren’s first book here: https://www.amazon.com/Should-All-Mirandas-Underrated-Character/dp/0358022363You can follow us on Instagram: @afterworkdrinkspodcast and join our closed Facebook group, After Work Drinks Podcast. Recommendations:Watch: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Fleabag (Duh)Read: Hadley Freeman on Roman Polanski https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/jan/30/hollywood-reverence-child-rapist-roman-polanski-convicted-40-years-on-runIf you're a feminist, you have to take the allegations against Katy Perry seriously by Victoria Gagliardo-Silverhttps://www.independent.co.uk/voices/katy-perry-allegations-josh-kloss-sexual-misconduct-feminism-teenage-dream-video-a9063076.html Hosted on Acast. We discuss how the world somehow forgot about Hollywood's hottest hunk off the back of the release of 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood', as well as the important detail you need to know about the movie before you see it. The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

A lot has happened this week and we're diving in headfirst. On the wholesome content front, Gigi Hadid had another date with that Bachelorette contestant. On the sad news front, Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus announced they are divorcing a mere six months after tying the knot. Equinox's founder threw a Trump fundraiser and sent the Los Angeles crowd into meltdown - but it's his work with Hudson's Yard and New York Fashion Week that really got us talking. Plus, Jeffrey Epstein conspiracy theories, Victoria's Secret's tokenistic marketing ploys and Grace's attempt at starting her own #AWDBookClub read. You can email us on [email protected], follow us on Instagram at @afterworkdrinkspodcast or join our private Facebook group, 'After Work Drinks Podcast.'Recommendations:Podcasts: Fashion No Filter, Fresh Air: Colson WhiteheadRead: The Nickel Boys by Colson WhiteheadTaylor Swift on Sexism, Scrutiny, and Standing Up for Herselfhttps://www.vogue.com/article/taylor-swift-cover-september-2019New York Fashion Week Has a Donald Trump Problemhttps://www.businessoffashion.com/articles/opinion/op-ed-new-york-fashion-week-has-a-donald-trump-problemWatch: The Last Czars Hosted on Acast.
