S2 Ep 12The Unexamined Life
Why are you making the comedy choices you are making? TODAY'S QUESTION: Dearest doctors, my favorite podcasters are three guys who love each other and love to make fun of each other. Lately they've been making lots of jokes about about marrying each other or having sex with each other... I don't think they're homophobic or being mean, but it's def homoerotic and I'm gay and they're straight and sometimes it all makes me feel some sort of way. Boys in high school would make the same jokes but then act grossed out by it and I would feel soooo not good. This sends me back to those feelings. It's not actually bad, but not good either, you know? Do you have any advice for not taking stuff like that so personally? I know my podcast buddies are good guys and I don't want to feel this away. A listener needs the boys advice for spending a surprise $27K. TODAY'S QUESTION: Dear comedic counselors, My uncle didn't have any kids of his own. When he died last month, he left me $26,800 in his will. Total surprise. I thought he was broke. What should I do with the money? You said you wanted shorter letters, Dinah P.S. S2 Ep 7Go Easy on Ol’ Benny Boy
A listener (Ben?) begs Andrew and Adam to retract their claws. TODAY'S QUESTION:Dear Ben and the other two, Every week, I have a great time catching up with this group of 3 guys who've been friends for a really long time. However, lately, I've become worried about their friendship dynamic. Because they've been friends for so long, they've become quite accustomed to giving each other a hard time and it used to feel like harmless fun. But lately, I've noticed that two of the friends (let's call them the old one and the pretentious one) have been teaming up to go after the other one (let's call him the cool one) about things like how great he is at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or how sexy he looks in leather pants. They've even gone so far as to spread preposterous, malicious rumors about him, like that he's the "King of piss-play" or that he was a member of the American alternative rock band Dishwalla. Now to any impartial observer, it's easy to see that the old one and the pretentious one are lashing out at the cool one because they're jealous of his many incredible talents, but instead of putting in the work to try and get on his level, they just sit around and jerk off each other's little dinks all the time. So, I'm just wondering if I should speak up and call out the abhorrent behavior of the old one and the pretentious one in some way? Or should I stay out of it and let things run their course knowing that one day, the whole world will finally appreciate the greatness of the cool one and the other two will slowly wither away into obscurity and shuffle off this mortal coil with jealousy in their hearts and profound regrets in their souls? Anyway, first time writer, long time listener. Thanks for taking my question! -Stetson B. LINKS Vote for the winning advice! S2 Ep 5Mama's Got A Brand New Bag: How To Get Your Groove Back, Guilt-Free
How To Get Your Groove Back, Guilt-Free. TODAY'S QUESTION: Hey guys! I am in need of some advice, but it's a little heavy. So, my son just turned 21. He is on the spectrum. He's high-functioning but needs a lot of support and attention throughout the day and can not safely live by himself. I've devoted the last 21 years of my life to supporting, raising, and advocating for him. I'm super proud of him and love being his mom, but pretty soon, it's going to be time to start living my own life again. I have recently started the process of finding day services and a home with a provider for him. So, there are two parts to this: 1. How do I ignore how guilty I feel? 2. How do I get my groove back? As always, I'd like to stay anonymous, so it's all good to share as much or as little of the info as u want. Also, I know it's not a fun topic and that I already got a turn, so it's all good if ya wanna skip it🙂 As always, thanks for all the laughs! S2 Ep 4How to Dispose of a Body: Making a Plan For Your Magnificent Corpse
Making a plan for your magnificent corpse. TODAY'S QUESTION: "I wanted to seek some advice from the boiz about handling some end of life details. Thankfully, this is not something I'm eminently expecting. But, I was forced to grapple with this question earlier this year after a cancer scare. While on that note, let me suggest an old school grawlix challenge: Get a Colonoscopy. I put mine off despite some really awful family history with digestive system cancers. I finally came to my senses and got it done, and did so just in time. "Anyway, amongst the things I was forced to reckon with was that I didn't really know what I wanted done with my body. All I really knew is that I didn't want to be buried. I find it overly expensive process and ultimately a waste of land to store a body that I no longer have a use for, nor do I need. In my mind cremation was the probably the easiest, and best way to get rid of my body. I then thought of asking that my ashes be spread in glacier Park from a peak I loved hiking up, but that's starting to feel like a burdensome side quest to force on a loved one. I also realized that for family who may want something local to remember me by, that would not be particularly easy. "So, what should I request be done with my body once I'm gone? Obviously, your advice is legally binding and thus I'll be updating any required documents forthwith. Sincerely, -Sheldon" LINKS Vote for your favorite advice, watch bonus videos and more on our Patreon page! S2 Ep 3Welcome to Snorth Dakota: When Your Partner Blames Your Snoring For Everything.
When your partner blames your snoring for everything. TODAY'S QUESTION: Dearest Not Doctors, Love the pod, need your help. Here's the deal: I snore and I think it's ruining my marriage? I've done a sleep study and I don't have any medical issues like sleep apnea, so using a CPAP machine is off the table. Sleeping in a separate bedroom is also not an option because we can't afford another bedroom. Sleeping on the couch isn't either, because apparently I snore loud enough that it wakes her up in the other room. My partner wakes up tired every day and lately my snoring gets blamed for anything that goes wrong. If she forgets a task at work? Misses an exit on the highway while driving? It's all because of my snoring. She tried wearing ear plugs, but they fall out. I've snored my entire life, so my partner's complaints feel like an attack on something I can't change, like my eye color or my voice. It really bums me out. I am well rested, so I feel super guilty about that too. I want her to feel good and be happy. I want to feel good and be happy. What should I do? I know this is a tough one, so bad answers are welcome. At least laughing about my situation might be nice. S2 Ep 2Jurassic Pants: What Should I Do With My Dad's "Sexy" Leather Pants?
EWhat to do when your father bequeaths you his sexy leather britches. TODAY'S QUESTION: Dear Grawlix, My boomer dad recently gave me a pair of black leather pants that he had custom made for himself many decades ago. They no longer fit him. Sadly, they do fit me. He made a crude joke when he handed them over about how much “tail” I’d get when I wear them. I’m happily married. Gross. I want nothing to do with my dad’s “sexy” pants but he appears to genuinely love them and I suspect would be very upset were I to “disappear” them. How do I get rid of these pants? Signed,- Pleat the fifth P.S. I considered sending a picture of me in the pants but chickened out. Sorry. The internet’s forever. S2 Ep 1The Zoomies: How To Cope With Unfunny Coworkers
What to do when your regularly scheduled work Zoom meeting turns into a bad open mic. Dear Advice Fight, I have a daily work meeting in the morning where my colleagues are insufferable: They think they’re funny and they’re just NOT. This is a virtual daily meeting of regional executives, and as you might guess, the men are the worst offenders. I’ve brought it up to others who attend this meeting and hear the excuse, “oh, you know they’ve had a tough year. They just use dark humor to cope.” I’ve learned through this meeting that dark humor has to be funny! Otherwise it’s just a cover for bad behaviors and opinions. Oh, you think “the wife” is just there to keep you from working on your car, Todd?? Violence and destitute people are hilarious, Larry?? They also try to needle each other constantly and just sound cringe and rude. I can’t take it anymore, and I’m wondering how to fight fire with fire without getting fired? Or maybe I should just grin and bear it? Dissociate for an hour each morning? You tell me. Thanks as always!
