E

This week on the ADHD Women's Wellbeing Podcast, Kate is joined by Jennifer McKenzie, a somatic trauma therapist and holistic educator. This week's episode covers something we haven't explored before: the impact of trauma, abuse, addiction and neurodivergence on the body resulting from years of masking, not fitting in, surviving and never quite feeling safe enough to stop.Jennifer speaks openly about her trauma and surviving homelessness, addiction, domestic abuse, and rape, raising four children whilst living with chronic pain and disability, and receiving her AuDHD diagnosis later in life. Jennifer's approach to healing is unapologetic and rebellious, reminding us that recovery and self-improvement are possible for everyone, no matter where they start. In this episode, we explore:Jennifer's personal story, the labels she received growing up, and how her lived experience shaped her path and her purposeHow alcohol and substance use became a way of masking, functioning, and navigating a world that wasn't built for JenniferWhy AuDHD women can be particularly vulnerable to risk-taking behaviours, manipulation, and abusive relationshipsThe impact of ADHD and autism on female relationships and the ongoing struggle for authentic connectionHow trauma and pain live in the body, from posture and digestive issues to emotional weight and chronic painThe role of fascia as the body's second nervous system, how it stores trauma, and its links to conditions like EDSThe power of movement and somatic therapy in nervous system regulation and genuine, embodied healingFor so many neurodivergent women, the trauma and pain they carry aren't just emotional. Ep 301Libido, Hormones and ADHD: What Every Woman NEEDS to Know

E

This week on the podcast, we're talking about something that so many women quietly experience but that very few of us actually talk about...Sex... Perimenopause...Libido... Desire...Orgasms... How our attraction changes as our hormonal levels shift. It's a big topic and one to listen to in a safe space away from small ears!So many women notice changes in their libido, attraction, intimacy or sexual confidence during perimenopause and menopause. For late-diagnosed neurodivergent women, these understanding shifts can feel even more confusing as hormones, attention, the nervous system and relationships all intersect. In this episode of the ADHD Women’s Wellbeing Podcast, Kate is joined by Dr Angela Wright, a trauma-trained clinical sexologist, sex medicine practitioner and menopause clinician with a specialist interest in the overlaps between trauma, ADHD, PMDD and menopause.Together we explore the often unspoken intersection between hormones, menopause, libido and sexual wellbeing, particularly for neurodivergent women. Many women notice shifts in their bodies, desire, or relationships during perimenopause and menopause, yet these changes are rarely explained in a way that helps them understand what’s really happening. This conversation opens up space to talk honestly about the changes women may experience during this stage of life, and how understanding the relationship between hormones, the nervous system and ADHD can help make sense of shifts in intimacy, attraction and connection. In this episode, we explore:How hormonal changes during perimenopause can impact libido and sexual desireWhy techniques or dynamics that once worked sexually may change as hormones shiftThe connection between ADHD, novelty and desire in long-term relationshipsHow hormones, the nervous system and attention interact to shape sexual experienceWhy some people experience a loss of interest in sex during midlifeHow orgasms can support relaxation, tension release and hormone regulationThe importance of communication in relationships, including using “I” statements to express needsHow treatments such as vaginal oestrogen and hormonal support can help during perimenopauseThe impact of progesterone and testosteroneThis episode offers reassurance, insight, and practical language for women navigating changes in their bodies and relationships, helping to reduce the confusion and isolation that can accompany these experiences.Join the More Yourself Community - the doors are now open!More Yourself is a compassionate space for late-diagnosed ADHD women to connect, reflect, learn and come home to who they really are. Ep 300Moving Past Guilt and Embracing Your ADHD Growth Journey

E

In this week's More Yourself episode, we explore the connection between personal growth, guilt, and the nervous system and the impact this interaction can have. Many women carry guilt quietly in their bodies. It can show up as chronic illness, pain, and other physical sensations. Over time, these emotions can settle into the nervous system and begin shaping how safe or unsafe change feels. In this clip from a recent More Yourself episode, we explore how learning to notice the physical sensations in our bodies can help us understand what we’re holding onto, and where growth might be trying to emerge. In this episode, we explore:Why growth and change can feel activating for the nervous systemHow guilt can show up physically in the bodyThe emotional weight many women carry without realisingHow guilt can quietly influence our decisionsWhy being a woman can add extra layers of expectation and pressureHow to recognise the blocks that can appear when we start thinking about changeHow recognising sensations in the body can help release stuck emotionsCreating space for new intentions, possibilities and directionsThis episode is a reminder that sometimes growth doesn't come from pushing yourself harder, but by gently noticing what your body has been trying to tell you all along. Why not start by asking yourself this question: If guilt wasn’t leading the way, what might growth feel like instead?Timestamps:00:10 - Exploring Growth and Change03:31 - Understanding Guilt and Growth07:44 - The Impact of Guilt on Decision Making11:57 - Releasing Emotional Blockages14:39 - Exploring Self-Sabotage and Personal GrowthWant to go deeper? This episode is taken from a recent monthly More Yourself live, where we explore these themes together in real time, alongside a community of women who understand ADHD and the complexity that comes with it.If this conversation resonates and you’d like more gentle, nervous-system-safe spaces for reflection, learning and support, we’d love to welcome you into the More Yourself community.Inside the More Yourself Membership, you’ll be able to:Connect with like-minded women who understand youLearn from guest experts and practical toolsReceive compassionate prompts & gentle remindersEnjoy voice-note encouragement from KateJoin flexible meet-ups and mentoring sessionsAccess on-demand workshops and quarterly guest expert sessionsTo join for £26 a month, click here. E

In this episode of the ADHD Women’s Wellbeing Podcast, Kate is joined by Dr Kati Peditto, Founding Researcher at the Built Experience Lab and a leading voice in neuroaffirming design - an approach that centres lived experience and views neurodivergence as an identity to be supported, not a problem to be solved. As an Autistic woman with ADHD, Kati brings both lived experience and research insight to a conversation many late-diagnosed women will recognise, the quiet, everyday ways our environments can either support our nervous systems or leave us feeling overwhelmed, exhausted and “too much”.Together, they explore the hidden impacts of our built environments and the origins of common design practices, as well as the design assumptions made and their contribution to stress, burnout, and self-doubt for neurodivergent women. This episode offers validation, language and practical ways to think differently about your environment and your needs. My new book, The ADHD Women's Wellbeing Toolkit, is now available. Ep 297Your Invisible Blocks to Growth with ADHD: Naming Them to Tame Them

E

When you hear the word growth, what happens in your body? For many ADHD women, growth has become tied to pressure. Doing more, achieving more, and constantly pushing forward, even when your nervous system is already stretched. In this episode, we explore how to reframe growth so it feels gentle, aligned and sustainable, not driven by urgency, but guided by self-trust. By relearning growth, we start to understand it's not about doing more, it’s about reconnecting with a part of you that feels fluid, authentic and open to possibility. This conversation comes from a recent More Yourself live, where we explored what growth can look like beyond productivity, career or external expectations, and how to define expansion in a way that actually works for your brain and your life.In this episode, we exploreWhy traditional ideas of growth can feel pressurising, especially for ADHD mindsThe impact of constant expectations on your nervous systemReframing growth as expansion into authenticity, ease and possibilityThe invisible blocks that can limit your potential, including fear, self-doubt and internalised beliefsWhat the word "change" brings up for you, and the worries or resistance that may sit underneathHow breath and body awareness can support decision-making and help you tune into your desiresWhat could growth look like if it didn't mean doing moreReflecting on what you may be holding onto out of habit, pressure or expectationLearning what you might be ready to let go ofWant to go deeper? This episode is taken from recent monthly More Yourself live, where we explore these themes together in real time, alongside a community of women who understand ADHD and the complexity that comes with it.If this conversation resonates and you’d like more gentle, nervous-system-safe spaces for reflection, learning and support, we’d love to welcome you into the More Yourself community.Inside the More Yourself Membership, you’ll be able to:Connect with like-minded women who understand youLearn from guest experts and practical toolsReceive compassionate prompts & gentle remindersEnjoy voice-note encouragement from KateJoin flexible meet-ups and mentoring sessionsAccess on-demand workshops and quarterly guest expert sessionsTo join for £26 a month, click here. Ep 294Kate's Mindfulness Tips for an ADHD Busy Brain

E

In this week’s More Yourself episode, I’m sharing something that’s felt really present for me lately, inspired by an email I received from Dr Megan Anna Neff: the challenge of engaging in mindfulness on the go with a brain that can't slow down. We’re often told about the benefits of mindfulness, but for those of us with ADHD, being still, clearing our minds, and “just breathing” can feel almost impossible. And instead of feeling calm, we’re left feeling like we’ve failed at yet another task that we've set out for ourselves. So in this episode, I wanted to share a different perspective. Rather than trying to force our brains to use techniques that don't align with our brains, we can take time to explore mindfulness and find tools that are softer, more compassionate, and made for ADHD brains.Inside the episode, I explore:Why traditional mindfulness can feel inaccessible for ADHD and what to try insteadHow overthinking, anxiety, judgment and rumination pull us out of being presentThe power of validating your emotions instead of trying to ignore or quiet themTools for grounding in overwhelming moments without forcing yourself to be stillHow to name, accept, and respond to what your nervous system is truly asking forThis conversation is here to remind you that mindfulness doesn’t have to look like silence or stillness. It can be a gentle walk, a sensory moment with essential oils, a few deep breaths in between tasks, or even just noticing how you’re feeling, with kindness.Timestamps:00:30 - Mindfulness for ADHD01:02 - Understanding Mindfulness in Neurodivergent Minds07:22 - Recognising Overwhelm and Taking a Pause11:41 - Grounding Techniques for Anxiety14:08 - Reimagining Mindfulness Practices17:09 - Mindfulness and Self-CompassionJoin the More Yourself Community - the doors are now open!More Yourself is a compassionate space for late-diagnosed ADHD women to connect, reflect, and come home to who they really are. Ep 290Peaceful Parenting for PDA Kids: Compassionate Strategies That Help Them Thrive

E

Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA), pervasive drive for autonomy, is a deeply misunderstood and often overlooked profile within the neurodivergent spectrum. For many families, living with PDA can feel confusing, isolating, and emotionally overwhelming, especially when traditional parenting approaches seem to make things harder, not easier. In this powerful episode, I’m joined by Dr. Casey Ehrlich, a researcher, coach, and mother to two PDA children, who brings both personal insight and professional expertise to help us reframe what’s really going on beneath the behaviours. If you’ve ever been told your child is “oppositional” or “defiant,” or your child resists even basic everyday requests, from brushing their teeth to getting dressed, or you're exhausted from trying to get it “right,” and you’re starting to question the very foundations of what parenting is “supposed” to look like...This conversation is for you. With the right support and education, children with PDA can thrive. And as parents, we can begin to feel more resourced, more connected, and far less alone in supporting our kids.Tickets to our first LIVE ADHD Women's Wellbeing Event are ON SALE!Click here to book your ticket for a full day of community, connection, awareness and growth.Key Takeaways:Why Casey prefers the term "pervasive drive for autonomy"How PDA can override even basic needs like eating, hygiene and safetyWhy traditional parenting approaches often backfire and what to try insteadThe four observable PDA traits: survival drive for autonomy, equalising, masking, and need for undivided attentionHow PDA differs from Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)What nervous system dysregulation looks like in PDA children and how to support itThe emotional toll on parents and how to care for yourself tooHow animals can support emotional regulation for PDA kidsWhat PDA can look like in adulthood (and why it's often misread as narcissism or avoidance)Timestamps07:01: A Deep Dive into Pervasive Drive for Autonomy12:22: Understanding Oppositional Defiance and PDA18:13: The Journey of Parenting Neurodivergent Children23:34: A Paradigm Shift to Parenting PDA Kids26:51: Understanding PDA and Burnout35:57: Nervous System Activation in Parenting and Adult Life41:21: The Impact of PDA on Relationships47:54: Navigating Parental ChallengesTickets to our first LIVE ADHD Women's Wellbeing Event are ON SALE!We're so excited to be offering you a full day of real-life connection, calm, and community for late-diagnosed women ready to feel understood, supported, and seen.Kate will be joined by two ADHD expert guest speakers, Hannah Miller and Dr Hannah Cullen! You can expect:Honest, thoughtful, informative conversationsConnection with like-minded, late-diagnosed ADHD womenInformation on hormones, energy levels and nervous system regulationA space to come back to yourself, with women who truly get itEvent details: Friday, March 6th 2026, 10:00 am – 3:30 pm in Wilmslow (near Manchester).Book your ticket or find out more information here!Join the More Yourself Community - the doors are now open!More Yourself is a compassionate space for late-diagnosed ADHD women to connect, reflect, and come home to who they really are. Ep 275How Do We Release Our Internal ADHD Pressure and Expectations?

E

In this episode of More Yourself, I'm sharing a clip from a recent SEED Talk I presented back in July, focusing on how we can work with our uniquely wonderful ADHD brains, rather than against them. Understanding our ADHD brain is a key element of healing, but we don't have to face this as though it is something new. We have always been neurodivergent, but we may not have had the language or awareness to understand it before. The modern world asks us to constantly perform, engage in challenging environments and overcompensate to fit in, but this can be exhausting. When we begin to find self-compassion, honour our unique experiences, we can tune into our bodies and take small, intentional steps toward self-care, self-regulation, and authenticity. In turn, self-trust releases the need for external validation and reclaims a life that feels more aligned, more spacious, and more true to who we are.My new book, The ADHD Women's Wellbeing Toolkit, is now available, grab your copy here! What I discuss:Some of the deepest pressures we carry come from within, shaped by internalised expectations and perfectionism. How to better understand your personal bandwidth by noticing the people, environments, and choices that either energise or deplete you.How to break intergenerational cycles of burnout, overwhelm and people pleasing through creating a supportive environment.Understanding your priorities and asking yourself what you want to let go of.How creativity, breathwork, and other self-regulation tools can gently support you through anxiety and depression. The healing power of self-advocacy, and what can happen when you give yourself full permission to rest, take up space, and just be.Timestamps:00:05 - The Recognition of Neurodiversity01:51 - Understanding Our Neurodivergent Experiences06:10 - Understanding Burnout and Setting Boundaries09:09 - Embracing Change and Letting Go14:12 - The Importance of Self-Regulation and Asking for Help15:19 - The Power of Self-Acceptance and PermissionThe More Yourself Community doors are now open!More Yourself is a compassionate space for late-diagnosed ADHD women to connect, reflect, and come home to who they really are. Ep 272Creating Meaningful Connections: How ADHD Awareness Can Transform Your Life

E

In this episode of More Yourself, I wanted to share a clip from a recent ADHD Women's Wellbeing live session that explored the concept of generativity versus stagnation —a theme that is very prevalent among late-diagnosed ADHD women. This concept, rooted in Erik Erikson’s psychosocial development theory, invites us to reflect on how we create meaning and contribute to our own lives and to others as we move through the different stages of adulthood. For those of us who received a diagnosis later in life, this understanding can be transformative. It reminds us that our diagnosis isn’t the end, it’s the beginning of a new chapter. My new book, The ADHD Women's Wellbeing Toolkit, is now available, grab your copy here! What I discuss:Erikson’s 8 stages of psychosocial development viewed through a neurodivergent lens. The impact of unconscious masking on ADHD traits and energy levels. The concept of generativity vs. stagnation for late-diagnosed ADHD women.Seeing a late diagnosis as a new chapter for authenticity and evolution. The role of meaningful connection in women's reconnection with their identity post-diagnosis.The power of embracing change in midlife and beyond.Timestamps00:33 – Understanding ADHD and Psychosocial Development03:30 – Overview of Erikson’s 8 Stages of Psychosocial Development05:26 – Life Stages Through a Neurodivergent Lens07:17 – Generativity vs. Stagnation Explained07:54 – Generativity as a New Chapter of Potential09:40 – Embracing Change and Authenticity12:16 – Closing Reflections and Personal GrowthJoin the More Yourself Community - the doors are now open!More Yourself is a compassionate space for late-diagnosed ADHD women to connect, reflect, and come home to who they really are.
