Learn Guide: https://learn.adafruit.com/cappy-monster-m4sk In this video we’ll show you how to use Adafruit’s Monster M4sk and attach it to your hat with our 3d printed case. The Adafruit Monster Mask is an all-in-one board that’s designed for beginners looking to add electronics to their projects. With the monster mask you can customize the eyes to match the theme of your character. The board is designed so it can be split apart and joined back together with a cable. So you separate the eyes or bring them closer together which is great for projects like Cappy. It's really easy to customize the look of the eyes. Just open the text file and change things like the size of the iris or the color of the pupils. Check out the Learn guide for a quick start and read through all of the different options you can play with. The guide covers everything you need and there’s lots of great projects for inspiration. You can get the parts to build this project, links are in the description. Download the files and 3d print the parts. If you need to make any changes, you can modify the source files and remix the design. We got this really nice Cappy hat from Amazon. It’s got padded polyester so it feels comfortable. You can separate the eyes using flush diagonal cutters. Just follow the perforated holes. Be sure to do this in a well ventilated area and avoid breathing in any dust. With the PCBs separated, you can connect them back together with a 9-pin JST SH cable. This gives you about 10cm of distance. For this project we’ll bring them closer together. Start by installing them into the case. You can use M3 nylon screws to secure them to the built-in standoffs – An electronic screwdriver makes this much easier. This 500mah lipo battery should give you about 3 hours of battery life. You can use foam tape to stick it behind the PCB. The eye covers are printed white PLA filament and super glued on top of the case. Next we’ll need to remove the existing eyes from the hat. Start separating them by pulling apart the edges. We used a ceramic blade to slice through the glue. We were pretty careful not to cut the fabric or any of the threads. You’ll want to take your time if you want to salvage these eyes. The 3d printed case is large enough to cover up any glue stains or strands of thread. To attach the case to the hat we used a needle and thread. We designed tabs on the side of the case so you can stitch it to the hat. You can create a running stitch by passing the needle in and out of the fabric. Just be sure to make a knot and tie off the thread to keep it from coming undone. And there you have it! That's how you make Mario’s Cappy with animated eyes. This is a wearable case for the Adafruit Monster M4SK. The 3D Printed case snap fits together and lets you add a headband so you can wear it. The case has all of electronics so it’s nice and portable little package. The open frame design shows off the silkscreen so you enjoy the lovely artwork. You can wear it as a pair of goggles or work it into your costume projects. They can be worn over your eyes, just be careful as you won’t be able to see very well. The Adafruit monster Mask packs a ton of awesome stuff into one single board. It’s running a cortex M4, it’s got 8 megabytes of flash storage, USB charging and 2x IPS TFT displays. It also has buttons, light sensor, expansion ports and accelerometer. Be sure to check out the product page for the full run down. For a quick start, definitely check out the learn guide. The board has native USB support, so you can upload code and recharge the battery. It works like a USB drive so you can drag and drop bitmaps to change up the graphics. You can modify the look and customize the eyes by editing a special config file. There’s lots of great project examples so you can get started right away! Hey folks, this week we’re making accessibility buttons for the Adafruit PyGamer. These buttons are 3d printed with the braille alphabet so folks can touch and feel the buttons. We made a full set of these button caps to press fit over the PyGamer switches. They’re are printed flat side down with the stem facing up. All buttons in this kit fit on the bed of the 3D printer and only took a half hour. The alphabet consists of dots in a 2 by 3 configuration. These dots are quite small but we were able to fit them on buttons with a diameter of 9mm. Each cover piece has it’s own set of dots so you can pick and place any letter you like. To remove the parts from the bed, I like to use a razor blade. Just need to carefully get the edge of the blade underneath the part without scratching the bed. While picking out the covers, it might be a bit tricky to make out the alphabet so I suggest a cheat sheet. so you’ll need to be cautious of the orientation when placing the covers. Just a small drop of superglue is all it needs to bond to the caps. Once you get them on you can test out the button presses and get a feel for the dots.
