Show Notes
Hidden beneath the modern city of Hamadan lies the remains of one of the most legendary capitals of the ancient world—Ecbatana.
According to ancient historians like Herodotus, the city was surrounded by seven massive walls painted in brilliant colors, with royal palaces filled with gold and silver. It became the powerful capital of the Median Empire, and later an important royal city of the Achaemenid Empire under rulers like Cyrus the Great.
Centuries later, even Alexander the Great marched into this legendary city as he conquered the Persian Empire.
Today, much of Ecbatana still lies buried beneath the earth—its secrets waiting to be uncovered.
