Ep 119Justin Connor, Filmaker, Musician, and Producer of THE GOLDEN AGE
Our guest today joins us from Hollywood, he is Justin Connor. He is a filmmaker, actor, director, and producer. His latest film is currently out on Amazon Prime called The Golden Age: The Life and Times of Maya O’Malley. The soundtrack, also written, performed, and produced by Connor, is available on all streaming platforms, with a double vinyl album. THE GOLDEN AGE, a musical rockumentary shot over a decade in California and India, introduces us to the character of subversive pop star Maya O’Malley who, after a string of controversial remarks, gets dropped from his music label and sets out on a spiritual pilgrimage throughout India in an attempt to resolve his troubled past. Winner of the Audience Award at the AWARENESS FILM FESTIVAL and winner of the Best Performance Award at the NEW HAMPSHIRE FILM FESTIVAL, Connor is also releasing A DAY IN THE LIES, a memoir novel that delves deeper into the life of the film’s main protagonist, Maya O’Malley, which will be released on Amazon later this Summer. Justin Connor currently lives in Los Angeles, and splits time between music and painting, and prepping the release of his third album, MATERIAL LIFE. You can track the film’s progress on social media as well as at www.justinconnor.com. Justin says that he started as an actor but then veered towards music, released an album, and then for this second album as he was trying to figure out how to adjoin writing and directing a film that intertwined music without relying on lip-syncing. He wanted songs that helped tell the story in an organic way. He was also watching a lot of documentaries at that time and decided to play with the ideas of what’s real and what’s fake. The character of Maya is born in these moments, he wanted to have a more substantive dialogue on the permutations of fame and pop culture and substantive songwriting. Something similar to Bob Dylan and Roger Waters did. He wanted to tell a story that was partially autobiographical about his own past. The whole document ends up being a comedy, but a comedy that also is supported on reality. It's a satire about material life, documentaries of artists and how artists are broken. He tried to approach the story with sincerity. The form of the documentary proved to be challenging because you play a little trick by satirizing. The Filmmaking Process The process of making a film such as this along with music and the collaboration of a team Justin also said that it was a healing exercise for him. As a survivor of abuse, Justin says that there is an immense amount of shame that people end up struggling with. Those wounds don’t necessarily go away per se but people eventually learn to bridge a different connection with them. Justin got to really challenge himself while making this film. Justin also talks about how sometimes the stories that stayed with him after going through a dysfunctional household also make him feel that he had to heal from them like it was a mandatory thing. Which is something that he also wanted to reflect on in this documentary. Victims can heal and grow, just on their own terms and time. Currently, Justin is also finishing a book that will accompany the film and will go even deeper into it. He hopes that this story can help others heal. So this whole process has helped Justin heal a lot and come to terms with his wounds. This is why in part the film took so long before he was really wrapped in this and now in the end phase he feels like he is finally starting his life over. His multiple roles in filmmaking Justin is the creator, director, and actor in this film. He also made music for it and a book. Justin talks about how his role as a writer is different from his role as a filmmaker. In the film, scenes may need to be cut, which is something that Justin was careful about since he wanted the story to be as complete as possible. However as filming goes forward and the time for editing comes, as a director he is able to synthesize the information needed to deliver great storytelling to the audience. As an author, he got to write each scene in detail, as painful as they were. But this also allowed him the liberty of not being limited by time as he would’ve been in a film. Advice from MayaWhen it comes to what advice the character of Maya would offer, Justin says that his big mantra would be to march to the beat of your own drum. There are a lot of expectations and inclinations about what works with other artists or musicians, actors or filmmakers, whoever they are. And following those expectations may mean that you’ll be going through your life differently from what you want. But you have a life already that is different, embrace it and march to the beat of your own drum. Stream Justin’s film on Amazon Prime. Ep 118Katie Leimkuehler, Storyteller and Executive Producer of FRESH TRACKS
Our guest: Katie LeimkuehlerKatie Leimkuehler is an executive producer of the documentary FRESH TRACKS, Senior Manager, and Social Media Coach at Charles Schwab, and the Executive coach for Leimkuehler Media. She is a well-rounded creative person who is not only a social media expert but also a brand consultant. Her creative engineKatie has always liked to learn new things and there is usually a point where you’ve learned as much as you can in a given field, so when she gets to that point she liked to hop on to another project of field and start learning something new. She gets the most joy from the act of creating something, not so much the final product but the actual part of starting from scratch and putting the pieces together to make an idea come to life. Background on her documentary story"Fresh Tracks" is a story inspired by her grandfather who was essentially the first amputee skier in the US. He lost his leg during WWII in the Battle of the Bulge, and came back to Cleveland, Ohio, started a prosthetic business, and wanted to get back into sports. And that's when he discovered skiing and design this device called the Outrigger, which is a ski pole with a mini ski attached to the end that helps for balance. He decided not to patent it so other people could have access to it. Fresh Tracks follows his story of designing the device and turning tragedy into triumph by giving adaptive athletes and paralympic athletes today the device they are using today.Katie originally wanted to write a screenplay but decided against it since she wanted to have more creative control. Choosing to tell her grandfather’s story wasn’t too hard either since it was something she grew up around and inspired her to think that if he could do it, so could she. Which is the mindset she looks to convey with her film, to spread positivity and empowerment even in these dark moments. Katie believes that dark moments in our life do not define us but rather how we pick up from those moments and what we do next. Lessons learned along the wayKatie didn’t have a background in film so she had to talk to as many filmmakers and producers as she could first. Everyone had a different process, but it gave her an insight into how to start and find the path that worked best for her. She learned that there is not a formula to make a documentary and that it can sometimes be overwhelming when you’re not sure of the path forward. She interviewed a lot of people, watched similar documentaries, and started to reach out to production companies that produced said films. That’s how she ran into the TFA Group with whom she partnered for the documentary. The reactionSo far, the sports community has received her documentary in a great way. She has gotten only positive feedback and a lot of people are just learning the story which is really interesting for them. Most athletes who use the technology are very interested in the story behind the design and recognize it as a crucial part of their equipment. The document is currently available on Vimeo on Demand and Amazon Prime. You can find more information about it on freshtracksfilm.com Her work as a Personal brand consultantKatie says that a lot of her work has always been in storytelling. Discovering what is it that her clients want to share and how they can do so. Helping them find what connects them with their target. She works on finding the unique moments, perspectives, or challenges that their clients may have come across to create their branding story. What the future holds for herKatie sees another film in her future, she has some ideas she is working on and looking for the right team and people to work with. Ep 117Jodi Krangle, Voiceover, Podcaster, and Clubhouse Host
Jodi Krangle, Voiceover, Podcaster, and Clubhouse HostJodi is a voiceover actress, singer, and the host of a great podcast called Audio Branding -- as well as a host of a Clubhouse Room called The Power of Sound. Creative processJodi talks about her creative process and starts by telling Mark that it is different for everyone. It may also depend on what your coaching has been, so if you have a career in voiceover, you likely have had some kind of coaching. In each coaching, you will be given different ways to get into the right headspace for acting. You need to be able to perform the script you are given. It is a performance, an actual conversation. So even if someone gives her a really sales-heavy script, she is still able to talk about it as if it was a simple conversation, especially because she s answering real questions customers may have. To get into her acting creative headspace, Jodi says she also needs to know which music they will be using and the emotional context of the piece. So basically, context plays a very important role in voice actors being able to perform adequately the lines that they were given. Trends in Audio Branding SpaceJodi tells Mark about how more and more people are paying attention to what it actually is. So, Audio Branding, which is similar to Sonic Branding. they call it a brand sound that represents the identity and values of a brand in a distinctive manner. The audio logo branded functional sounds, brand music, or the brand voice are characteristic elements of audio branding. So it's a bunch of different things that are all working together to make an audio identity for a company and to let people who hear it, understand who that company is viscerally deeply, emotionally on really quickly, actually. So for instance, appliances have different sounds and people use different music on their on-hold and they have a different voice for their commercials that, you know, approximates their brand values. So most sound companies are looking to appeal to their target audience so they opt to have a signature voice. What this achieves is that customers are able to hear just seconds of a voice that they recognize and associate with the company. Her successJodi credits her success to being able to track what goes in and comes out. Having an online invoicing system has been huge for her, apps like Zoho and QuickBooks are very much the easiest way to present clients with a professional invoice. So keeping track of everything is monumental to keep your business growing horrible. What makes a great clientA good relationship with clear communication is the key here. They need to understand that they are paying for a professional service, they are hiring a professional and paying for such experience. Communicating expectations from the start is also big for the voiceover actress to be able to do a good job. The road aheadCurrently, Jodi is not sure which direction she may take in the future but she does know that she likes where she is right now, she doesn’t want to limit herself and is open to whatever happens in the next years. She knows she’ll figure it out when the time comes. If you want to reach her, contact her at www.voiceoversandvocals.com Listen to her podcast Audio Branding. You can also join her on Clubhouse every Wednesday at 2PM Eastern, that show is called The Power of sound and it is also definitely worth checking out. Ep 116Kiki Oosterbroek, KOaching Leaders in Self-Knowing
Kiki Oosterbroek KOaching Leaders in self-knowing & self-awarenesslinkedin.com/in/[email protected] @kiki.oosterbroekKiki is a creativity coach who currently lives in Seoul, South Korea. She will give us insights into what it means to be creative, the nature of creativity, and her own take on creativity and experience. Kiki on creativity:Kiki talks about how creativity is something natural to us humans and that we are meant to express our unique self. Therefore, being human means being creative. Kiki says companies shouldn’t be wondering how to make people more creative but rather, think about what’s stopping their employees from being creative. So people are naturally creative, especially as children and then they lose that. What happens exactly? Kiki explains how education inadvertently kills creativity and then fear of judgement becomes our biggest creative detractor as adults. Reflecting on decisionsKiki talks about how she has gotten more in touch with a better understanding of how we give meaning to our life. This allows her to be able to take a step back and in doing so, not only seeing where she is but also see where she is coming from and the possibilities that are in front of her. She believes that there’s also a bit of the ability to also receive inspiration that allows her to do this. She talks about human beings are very spiritual beings, as in, they have a high level of consciousness and that they express in a creative way. A lot of being creative falls on using your imagination, and this is where Kiki says she is most talented. Experiences are dataKiki feels how experiences help you collect data and the more you analyze said data, you are more likely to be able to predict future behavior. And nowadays, people who are working 9-to-5 jobs may also have creative dreams outside the company but what about those who have dreams within the companies? So what can either of those persons do in order to accomplish them?Kiki tells us that digging, cleaning, organizing, and making meaningful connections is a great start. Another important factor is letting go of the judgment towards your past, so people see what they’ve experienced, and when they find meaning to it, they are able to contemplate their new creative space without judgment. And at this moment is when they’re able to focus on the now and on the possibilities they will be creating for their future. For those interested, you can find Kiki on Instagram as @kikithechamaleon for any inquiries about her coaching practice and insights on creativity. Ep 115Salisha Thomas, Broadway Actress & Podcaster
Our guest: Salisha ThomasSalisha Thomas is an actress known for being in the cast of "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" on Broadway. She was also Miss California World. She has a podcast called “Black Hair in the Big Leagues.” Salisha talks about how she decided to start embracing the hair she had been taught to hate. To change the way she used to think her whole life. Something that a lot of black and brown people struggle to do to this day. She just launched a new podcast called “The Salisha Show.” About her experience on BroadwayThe Carole King musical debuted on Broadway as a terrific musical and had a successful tour. Salisha helped launch the musical’s tour back in 2015, she got into the show the same week she had just moved to New York City which was amazing to her. She toured with the show for two years and she fell even more in love with the show and the team. She loved working in the musical. Salisha then chose to leave the tour to give New York a chance because living there was what she always wanted. Her creativity, focus, and processSalisha talks about how her process has changed over the years, she continues to learn and approaches her character with the mindset of how the character fits into who she is rather than how she can fit into the character. It is a little different when you're portraying somebody who is a real-life breathing person who exists in the world, whether they're alive or dead or passed on. She tries to make it as authentic and truthful as she can by thinking who she is in their shoes. Researching and watching as much of the real-life characters as she can is also that helps her portray them correctly. Get their mannerisms and more. This is something she did when she got to play Diana Ross on a show called Trevor (that is about to open in a new Broadway run this fall.)What she gets asked the most Mark asked Salisha to think about the questions most students are likely to ask her. She talks about how often she gets asked about how to get on Broadway, whether it is better to be on the stage or as a crew and how she is able to do the same show eight times a week and keep it fresh. When talking about her journey to Broadway, Salisha says that everyone’s journey is different. There are many ways to make a dream come true. You can begin from many angles. Part of her story includes a homeless man telling her that she needed to move to New York. She didn’t necessarily listen to everything the man said but she knows that it was part of her journey. And she recognizes that if she hadn’t moved to New York, she wouldn’t have started her journey. So a lot about starting your dream is listening to your instinct while also paying attention to the wisdom others share. “There's more peace in making that decision when you know, that's the right thing for you to do. “To find out more about Salisha, check her website salishathomas.com and find her podcast there. You can also find her on Instagram and know that she checks her DMs! Ep 114Jake Brown, Music Biographer & host of About The Authors TV
Jake Brown is a music biographer and award-winning author. He has written over 50 books. Jake has written biographies on bands from AC/CD and Heart to rappers like Tupac and R&B singers like Prince. His latest project is a streaming TV project called About The Authors TV, where he takes his experience and interviews some of these musicians and artists. What he has learnedJake has defined himself as an instrumentalist of seven instruments since he was five years old. He grew up a musician and PR. Then he started working for record labels in Los Angeles. And from there he got into book writing. He has always been a music kid so to work with something he was already passionate about was a great opportunity he couldn’t miss. He started the process of writing Tupac Shakur and the studio book with his state with Afeni Shakur, and what he learned through that process was that there are templates that can be applied to almost any band across any genre. And if you as an author find a way to do so, do it. If you find a niche as an author jump on it quickly and write and publish as much as you can. Try to get published by a “real” publisher and not just publish yourself. If you’re starting you can check some forums where publishers may go through contests. If you really want to make it big you need to find a publisher that likes your idea and put money into it, market it, sell it, make a profit from it, and come back and ask you to do another one. Back when he was starting, Jake says he pretty much took anything that was thrown at him, he did Jasmine St. Claire who was an adult star in the nineties.Don't do it just for the moneyIn 2004 he did his second published book and it was about R. Kelly. He admits that he only did it because he needed the money. Writing about R. Kelly was not easy for Jake and he was even asked to change some of the things in the introduction, changes that were demanded in order to water down the version Jake had written. But Jake needed the book to sell so when the situation wasn’t the same as for the previous book so when it came out he distanced himself from it. About building a writing careerJake talks about how you must take chances when building your writing career, especially in the music industry. It is one of the toughest businesses to get into. But in the end, the opportunity that is actually life-changing will come and open many doors for you. In your career as an author you may not always do things the best way or maybe pick the wrong client but regardless the opportunity presented and previous experience will be key for you to make the right decisions and establish yourself as a prolific music author. About The Authors TVJake has been filming a new television show all year, you can find more about it on his Youtube channel, you can also find the show on Authors TV where he has taken his experience interviewing some of the most popular. In this show, Jake applies his creative process to interview his guests.Jake decided to pursue having his own show as another creative outlet aside from the exhausting business of writing biographies. While writing is something he enjoys, he doesn’t want to spend his retirement writing and burning out. He has already shot eight of the ten seasons of the show. "I think we have 34 Pulitzer prize winners because I aimed high as I did with the music business." The show is available on Amazon and Hulu and will be available in Britain. Mark closes the podcast talking about the creativity podcast isn’t just about philosophy. These are the creative and motivational stories of people and their journey to success through their creativity. Ep 113Anthony Teresi, Author of Rippling Waves
Travel with Anthony Teresi as He Reveals the Infinite Bliss and Wonder of the Oneness That Awaits Us, in the Transcendent Dimensions Where Our Pure Consciousness Resides and Ultimately Returns to The Origin from Which All Love FlowsThroughout "Rippling Waves", Anthony Illuminates a Pathway of Transformation and Evolution, Showing Us Our Potential DestinyIf you've ever wondered what it might be like to leave your body and the Everyday world behind and allow your free consciousness untethered to visit where our souls originate, return home and begin anew--the unfathomable source of Supreme love...then let me introduce you to an Odyssey like no other! Renowned psychic and multi-dimensional visionary Anthony Teresi guides us all on an epic adventure, awakening the deepest truth of who we are in his new book Rippling Waves: A Spiritual Journey Through the Heart of the Universe.Anthony has traveled this journey himself, countless times, and after years of exploration into the highest realms, he has committed the truth of his experiences to paper with a pure hope to inspire us to expand, transform and ascend into the presence of the most profound revelation of love, right now, within this very lifetime. Rippling Waves calls for a renaissance of spiritual and planetary harmony. In ascending from one dimension higher into the next, Anthony paints beautiful and astonishing word portraits of the magnificent sights he has seen, the breathtaking places he has been, and the glorious beings who are the benevolent guardians and guides at each stop along the way. He listens and learns what enables the souls at each dimensional stage to fully embody their divinity-and what we, as humanity, might do to emulate them as we find our way throughout our own existence, so we, too, can experience the bliss, ultimate expression and oneness of all creation. On this journey we discover who we really are and how we can express that truth through the power of love. This remarkable book is the result of Anthony's years of pursuing deeper and deeper levels of consciousness awareness. In realizing that his true essence was not limited to his body, Anthony discovered the gift of Focused Love Projection which allowed his consciousness to expand beyond limitation towards its true Source. Born a fourth generation intuitive, with unexplained visions as a child, he hid much of his true spiritual nature away until his brother's plane went missing during a trip to Mexico. Hoping to find him, and desperate for answers, Anthony followed after, frantically searching without success through the jungles of Mexico. In a moment of despair, feeling helpless, his brother appeared to him, in full vision, assuring him he was well, and that he was transcending to his next soul expression, fully embraced in Peace and Love. This healing and awakening experience set Anthony on a path of deep exploration and inspired a joyous return to the expansion of his intuitive gifts. As an already accomplished professional musician, he began to employ unique instruments of his own creation in sound healing performances where he ultimately responded to the many requests of those seeking his gifts of wisdom and guidance. Today, he is a renowned clairvoyant, master astrologer, psychic visionary, sound healer and empath, highly-respected for his compassion and integrity. Anthony's natural born gifts presented the unique capacity to tune into the realms of universal knowledge and tap into the hidden mysteries of the cosmos. He has gained the ability to communicate directly from the vastness of consciousness through the unspoken language of the heart. This has granted him passage through multidimensional portals that link humanity to the almost limitless possibility, both here on this plane of life existence, and in the infinite dimensions that exist beyond. In one of the final stages of his voyages, he explores how a community of souls ascended from a world much like ours today, riven with greed and divisiveness, and transformed into a world of creative collaboration, total harmony and bliss. Anthony holds that "This journey clearly shows that until the majority of us awaken and seize the waiting gauntlet of the heart, our world will continue to crash and burn, survive, rebuild, then crash again and again as the promise of universal peace and oneness continues to pass us by. It does not have to be this way. Life can transform and humanity can facilitate that transformation."Our sponsor is Designhill -- the world’s # 1 creative marketplace that caters to the creative needs of businesses and individuals alike who can source high-quality designs from professional designers and unique products created by independent artists.Get Exclusive 25% Off on the Designhill Logo Maker ServiceUse code:&nbs

Ep 112Christian Banach, Agency Growth Strategies
Christian Banach, Agency Growth StrategiesAbout the podcast: Unlocking Your World of CreativityUnlocking Your World of Creativity is a podcast hosted by best-selling author and global brand innovator, Mark Stinson. This is a podcast where diverse guests who share in common being creative professionals from all over the world. They talk about they get inspired, how they organize their ideas and gain confidence to make the connections needed to launch their amazing work. Our guest: Christian BanachChristian Banach is an agency owner, sales team leader, and new business director. He has a passion for helping agency leaders to be empowered and approach their future with greater confidence. Christian’s consulting clients range from Reebok to TD Bank among other multinational level businesses. He believes that regardless of the size of the agency it is possible to do something that unique and different than others. And that’s how he gets clients, by offering unique solutions to the specific problems they may have. It is difficult to be good at everything, but when you specialize in a certain area, you will get bigger companies to seek you out. His approach to helping them figure out their “one big thing”When getting clients through word of mouth you may not have a good idea of what type of business they are or what type of client they may be. This creates a situation were they’ve done a lot of different things. So when they get their foot in the door with a client they may have a situation difficult to approach. What an agency does it that it comes up with creative solutions by examining the clients and the problems they come with. They look for commonalities, buckets of work they’ve done, certain types of consumers and targets, and some common themes. They take those themes and then they find companies that have the same type of theme and engage them in a development stage where they are finally able to reach solutions and find their unique “big thing” to stand out in the market. How he got thereChristian came to the industry almost by accident. He started by working on concert promotions to pay his way through college. He got to work with Grammy Award-winning artists such as Lady Gaga, Pitbull and T-Pain. Along the way, he was approached by an experimental marketing agency that was looking for some help with more street-type activation strategies. For Christian, it was a very natural transition from doing concert promotions and working with sponsors into that experiential marketing. Lessons learned along the wayAlong the way, when the 2008 recession hit, Christian learned the hard way that promoting his agency through just word of mouth was not enough. He ended up having to hire consultants who provided him with an immense amount of valuable insight. While this help came a little late and Christian had to close his business, he was inspired to go into business and business development a few years later. This made him learn that even when times are good, you still need to focus on having a predictable pipeline, price sales process, and word of mouth referral as a bonus only. What the future holds for ChristianChristian really enjoys art and has found himself increasingly trying to explore other creative avenues for himself. He is considering turning the Monday motivation newsletter into a book and be able to not only give some valuable insight to others but especially to his daughter. Find more about Christian by going to his website www.christianbanach.com and learn more about his agency and what they can do for you. Don’t forget to tune in for our next guests who will be bringing in even more valuable insight for those looking to make a big name in the business that is "creativity."

Ep 108Alexandr Mashkov, MBicycle Software Development
Alexandr Mashkov, MBicycle Software Development About the podcast: Unlocking Your World of CreativityUnlocking Your World of Creativity is a podcast hosted by best-selling author and global brand innovator, Mark Stinson. This is a podcast where diverse guests who share in common being creative professionals from all over the world. They talk about how they get inspired, how they organize their ideas and gain confidence to make the connections needed to launch their amazing work. Our guest: Alexandr Mashkov and the MBicycle team In today’s episode, we welcome our first guests from Belarus, the MBicycle Team. First, we have Vlada who is the business development manager, she is in charge of reaching out to potential and current clients. She is the first person you can talk to get introduced into the MBicycle world. Then, we have Alex who is the manager of the company and his role focuses on software development. He has worked with Vada for over 11 years and as far as their agencies are concerned, they work creating custom software development in such domains as sports, health, wellness, health tech, and fintech are some of the most common cases they concentrate on. They usually work with startup companies because that gives them an opportunity to feel the fresh air of new ideas that are innovative for any market. Alex has spent 25 years living in various parts of Eastern Europe and he started a number of companies and one of those businesses he has was located in Belarus. There he got to know a number of people in the engineering and software development technology fields. While his markets may seem quite separate from each other, from a technical perspective they’re similar. So their most successful case studies are connected to a sports application because they’ve done numerous apps for basketball for players, coaches and fans. Up next, Mike works more in the business and finance part of the company. He spoke about how from a competitive standpoint a dynamic market such as Belarus found more expertise in engineering manufacturing. There were a lot of top-rate scientific institutes of technology and technical universities. So the cost structure of a company such as Mbicycle can provide superior services at a much lower cost. That gives them an amazing competitive advantage. About potential new customersVlada talks about what are some of the differences in what potential new clients are looking for. She says it depends mostly as some people just want the company as a support to their current team. Others just had a general idea and they were looking for a team to help them create something new. To make their ideas into something real and measurable by taking their ideas and concepts and bringing them to life. On team organization After working for 11 years, they have developed a very good delivery model. They cover the full cycle of delivery. They will propose to start with a discovery stage so the potential client can work with their business analyst for up to a month. They communicate a lot about the idea and it should be organized and it can be divided into other stages. After that stage is done, the analyst prepares a solid document that can be used for making estimates and for further communications with their tech leads. After that, the tech team starts the actual development process. They of course have project managers, QA guys, and everything needed so they bring the idea to life with the help of the team. With MBicycle, helping dreams align with reality is all about execution and the help of their experienced business analyst. They know how to communicate, how to define the specific things or features that will be needed for these projects. Based on that, they also use their expertise from previous projects to get the most information from a person to make a combination of what is needed and should be done. This combination is what helps them succeed with new startups. Current exciting projectsCurrently, the company is working on an app that will be the Uber for people wanting personal chefs. So, say you have an important dinner or you just don’t want to cook one night but want that home-cooked meal flavor, you can go on the app and you look for chefs in your area. You see what types of meals they offer, their pricing and you get a chat feature to talk with the chef. To learn more about the exciting new projects that MBicycle is working on, you can follow them on LinkedIn.

Ep 107David Page, author of Food Americana
Creator of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and author of Food Americana, David Page is a long-time journalist (2 decades, foreign and domestic, with ABC News and NBC News) who transitioned to food television, and then books. He’s gone all around the country capturing the stories behind the people and places in the foods and now, he compiled all that into a book called Food Americana. The Americanization of the FoodDavid says that since America is a country of immigrants, pretty much everything eaten here has come from someplace else. Even something as supposedly red-blooded American as a hamburger came from Hamburg, Germany. So there is pretty much nothing that just sprang up as American food. Another example could be lobster, which is indigenous to North America, when the explorers and settlers got here, and they first saw lobster that did not look like dinner, they had to learn what to do with lobster from the Native Americans who had been eating it for quite some time along with oysters. What did David learn about food? After having done Diners, David had the fervent belief that there are some remarkable people throughout the country who put their heart and soul into homemaking real food. David says that behind good food is people who really care about making good food. To succeed in the hospitality industry, David says, you have to have been born wanting to please people. Because the chances are they’re not gonna get rich. And the concept of peeling a bushel of potatoes every day to make your fries fresh isn't going to seem like a lot of fun unless you really care that you make good fries, which David added, requires cooking them twice. About his investigative reporter and journalist backgroundDavid that getting the facts right is the absolute most for his work. “Factual doesn’t mean dry,” he says. His biggest standard is to avoid getting the facts wrong and he claims that in food writing that can be very tough because there are legends that are now fact, such as the allegation that a very, very good hamburger restaurant New Haven, Louise lunch made the first hamburger and there's no proof the Louise lunch made the first hamburger. His show pitch When David left the world of network TV and opened his own production company, he started proposing shows for various networks with no success. He started as a subcontractor and found that he had to work his way up to be a contractor himself so he started pitching to the networks himself. He said he was remarkably unsuccessful. Finally, he started pitching to The Food Network, where he talked to an executive. It was a late Thursday or Friday afternoon when after rejecting most of his pitches, the executive asked “Haven you got anything else about diners?” and he said that he was currently developing Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. That one caught her attention. She asked him to have something sent to her desk on Monday. The only problem? David had just come up with the name out of nowhere in the phone, he had no show in development! He spent the weekend making phone calls, wrote the pitch for Monday, and was asked to do a one-hour special called Diners, drive-ins, and dives. And this eventually became a series. A rather lucky turn of events for David! Book vs. Show For David, some of the key differences between a book and a show lie in how the elements for storytelling are presented. For example, in a show, you are creating an experience where the audience feels as if they’re hanging with someone they enjoy hanging out with. For his show, his host was a naturally talented TV performed who got into the rhythm of things really fast. Other aspects of audiovisual storytelling include immersing the audience in the experience, making them hear the sizzle as the burger hits the grill. This is all different when you’re writing of course, when it comes to nonfictional writing you have to find a way to tell the story from another human being’s point of view. So the challenge is not having pictures and being able to describe everything in an engaging, non-repetitive way. In writing, you have to carefully use the right words to make food appealing, and most importantly: you have to tell the right stories. If anything, David is a great example of how perseverance and passion for what you do can and will take you very far in life. It was his determination to succeed that drove him to the place he is today, and most surely will lead him even farther in life.

Ep 106Todd Hoyer, Digital Content Producer
Todd Hoyer, Digital Content ProducerAbout the podcast: Unlocking Your World of CreativityUnlocking Your World of Creativity is a podcast hosted by best-selling author and global brand innovator, Mark Stinson. This is a podcast where diverse creative professionals from all over the world ttalk about how they get inspired, how they organize their ideas, and gain confidence to make the connections needed to launch their amazing work. Our guest: Todd HoyerTodd is a content producer in digital, animation, film, and video. Pretty much all kinds of mediums. And he has also worked in interactive games, trade shows, display branding, and the visuals needed to really tell stories. Todd has been doing digital and video long before those words were even known to be digital. He told us about how he started back in college by cutting film and tape and then as soon as he got out of college, he was given a computer and digital non-linear editing system. He didn’t know how to use it, but he was able to figure it out on his own and start his career from there. His approach to structure and style Todd has always been more interested in the editing side of things; he of course had to learn how to do a little bit of everything, from shooting to audio. But editing was always what held his interest. He says that when it comes to putting a story together through editing, sometimes there’s a plan and other times it is just a matter of staring at the footage for a day, reflecting on it, and then working the next morning into building that story that you created in your mind. Todd talks about how it is very important to be able to visually tell a story in a compelling way. And editing is a major component in that, for which, there are certain techniques that you can use to achieve your goals. He summarizes his latest technique into listening and absorbing the information presented and experimenting with ideas before turning them into complete compelling stories. The Todd Hoyer Style For Todd, each project is different so no matter what genre or industry, whether it is healthcare film or training film, he feels the same excitement facing each one of the new creativity challenges. One of his favorite projects was a food safety training video that he spent nine months working on. It took him across the country and he got to meet a lot of interesting people. The production and post-production also proved to be interestingly challenging because they dealt with translations into other languages, different cuts for the Asian market. But in general, it was a very complex project in which Todd got to explore his knowledge and abilities to a great extend to face the challenges and deliver an amazing pieceHis current projectTodd is currently working on a mini-documentary series called Salsabrate. The brand is called Fresh Cravings and the campaign for 2021 is called “Salsabrate the Good.” They are giving $5,000 to 50 charities and they are making episodes telling their stories and releasing those stories to all of their social media channels, Youtube, Instagram, TikTok.Making Tiktoks also proved to be a new challenge for Todd as he had to adapt to a new form of storytelling that is more brief. Salsabrate is a year-long campaign where they will be releasing new episodes each week. Each charity has its own story, so telling that story changes the way he has to approach the editing. There isn’t a formula to follow. Another very important component to creating this type of content is making sure they hit the most engagement in the social marketplace. If you’re interested in following Todd and learning more about his projects you can contact him through his LinkedIn profile, Todd Hoyer. If you’re interested in the Salsabrate the good campaign and videos, you can find them at freshcravings.com/salsabrate and you can see all the videos there and even nominate a charity.

Ep 104Harry Shapiro, Rock Biographer
Our guest: Harry ShapiroHarry Shapiro is an author -- more specifically, a rock biographer.Harry is known for biographies of Jimi Hendrix, Jack Bruce, Eric Clapton, and Bob Dylan among others. He has also written for many magazines such as Mojo, Classic Rock, Record Collector, and Blues in Britain. He also had the chance to write liner notes for various record labels. About his creative processThe way he gathers and organizes information, every book he has done has been different. He tends to start with the family of the artist since they are the gateway. Usually, he likes to make sure the family knows that he doesn’t have any bad intentions when writing about the artist, and then comes the other part of the process. Which is the recounting of facts, essentially, people tend to forget or misremember the facts which may prove to be a challenge for them. It can be a big triangulation process to fill in the big picture. In every interview, people give him bits of information that are valuable. He describes it as a jigsaw puzzle, and even 6 seconds or a quote out of a 30-minute interview is incredibly helpful in building someone’s life story. Of course, he has to select what to leave in and out of each book in order to make it factual but also interesting. His current project on John CampbellUp until now, he’s been writing about specific eras he is familiar with. Currently, he is writing about an unsung hero, John Campbell from Shreveport, Louisiana. Last summer, while looking through his library he found an article about John Campbell and reached out to people on Facebook, and was able to reach his family. So far, Harry believes the process for this book has been very fascinating.John was an exceptional musician who put out incredibly usual music for his genre. He was a gentleman and everyone has had something nice to say about him so far, which also says a lot about him. People from all over have been very helpful by sending Harry pictures and memorabilia from John to add to his biography. His advice for those looking to start a similar projectHe says that the way he started was at a really boring job and then realized that he wanted to do something that would help him express himself. So he started writing about something he liked: music and musicians. And that’s how he started, by doing something he liked and cared about. Talking to people and putting a bit of his enthusiasm into each book. Essentially, a writer writes. A writer doesn’t just sit and wait.

In today’s episode, we're in the world’s live music capital, Austin, Texas. and my guest today is Moody Bank$.Moody is an up-and-coming R&B singer-songwriter and her music has been described as “Smoky alto sounds over infectious pop hooks.”During her creative and songwriting process, whenever she hears a beat, Moody asks herself, "What color does this beat make me feel?" By answering this question, she’s able to get a sense of how a song can bring about the feeling of color or energy. Specific colors help inspire her.Moody understands that the more a song can bring you to a specific moment or memory or feeling, the more likely people are going to resonate with that song. Some of her main musical influences include Erykah Badu & Jill Scott because of their writing and use of real instruments. What guides Moody & her team during the creative process? Not being attached to your art, to the point where it starts interrupting the flow of it. Not taking the art too seriously and just working from an organic space. When collaborating with her band and her music producer, she gives them creative freedom to create openly without attachments and lets them know their voice matters. As for conquering the music industry, two pointers from Moody to be able to shine in this industry include:Being self-sufficient: Taking care of yourself, knowing how to be all-rounded.Going with the flow: Don’t limit yourself to a singular idea Youtube: Moody Bank$ & her band Fallen Dollars live recordingSpotify: Moody Bank$Apple Music: Moody Bank$Instagram:@M00dybanks There are definitely challenges throughout this journey but you have to persevere, stay consistent & take control of your life’s trajectory. As she works on her tape “Feeling Colors” Moody’s key takeaway is “If the product is good enough, people are going to see it.” Music tracks are copyrighted, provided by the artist, and used with permission.

Ep 93Yaya Zazueta, Alma de Pueblo
Meet Yaya ZazuetaOur guest today joins us from the state of Sonora, and the town of Ures, in Mexico. Oralia Zazueta, affectionately known as "Yaya." Ures: The Town that inspired The BrandYaya was very happy and anxious to talk about her project, Alma de Pueblo,From Sonora and Ures, which are located in the north of Mexico, her project essentially sources local foods and products. Yaya created Alma del Pueblo to show people their traditions and the results of their hard work. Ures is the oldest town in Sonora, so it has a lot of history and traditions. Yaya considers Ures to be the soul of the Sonora culture, so they have a lot to talk about and offer to everyone around the world. The soul of a town like Ures definitely is the people. The history that Ures has and the education and values of their people and children. It is very important for them to engage the people and to return to their traditions. In Ures, people are artisans and they do specific things with a lot of love.About Alma de PuebloCurrently, Alma de Pueblo offers eight different products. Their main product is 100% roasted and toasted Mexican coffee. There are also the Spanish Jamoncillos. They are very sweet candies that are very traditional in Ures, as well as pipitorias, machaca, obleas, and others products. Her idea is to sell them in a beautiful gift box for those who want to try them all at once.Yaya’s business-oriented mind started in her childhood; her father used to be a businessman so she was inspired to become a businesswoman, it came easy to her. Yaya says, "Nowadays we have to do different types of business. We have to think about our consumers. We have to think about our target markets and we need to be different."Alma de Pueblo is a social brand. The purpose of Alma de Pueblo is to share around the world the products that are made in Ures. Alma de Pueblo is a social responsibility for the people, the education of the people, the social problems, and all the things that nowadays have been lost. Want to find out more about the project? Find them on Facebook and Instagram as @Almadepueblosonmex. You find their products, as well as videos and photographs about how the products are made. About the marketingYaya said that currently, she uses local influencers to promote her products. She says that there are very different tools to make these connections or to organize your ideas. The influencers she uses help her communicate her ideas to other people. Then she finds a great graphic designer that captures her vision and puts them into a beautiful marketing strategy. The future of Alma de PuebloRight now, the Alma de Pueblo products are only available in Mexico but they have plans to sell the project around the world exporting the brand to the US and Canada. Yaya wants the people to know thair her brand is unique and create more engagement around it. About her way to creativity and projectsYaya says that when you have a very clear vision of what you want to be the project, is very easy for you to communicate to people. You have to identify the target market by age, socioeconomic level, and location. And then, you have to think about your project 24/7. You have to think about your project and once you do that, the inspiration will come. Her best advice for this is to get a comfortable space, put on some music, and make yourself a very nice cup of coffee, and then the ideas will come. https://www.facebook.com/almadepueblosonmexhttps://www.instagram.com/almadepueblosonmex/

Dave Noll is a TV Show Creator and Showrunner who has created, sold, and produced more than 50 series and over 3,300 episodes worldwide. Shows Include: Chopped, and all Chopped spinoffs, Inner Chef with Marcus Samuelsson, Face the truth, Punchline, quizzicle, and the most recent America Says. Dave and his partner Cleve Keller (Keller/Noll) joined together exclusively in 2007. With 50+ series together, they have become one of the most successful TV development teams in the world.Dave believes that life is a series of pitches. no matter who you are, you're going to be pitching at some point and you really do just have to embrace that.A great deal of his success stems from working for Barry Diller, who started the Fox network. Barry's advice to him was “don't pitch any show, unless you see a clear, obvious, concise path to at least a $100 million - not $10 million or $12 million, - $100 million." This mindset will help you create something with forever power. Dave’s top 5 things to do to achieve a successful pitchRemain positive no matter what happens, it's going to help you. People like confidence. they want to buy from someone that’s confident.Keep it simple. People love simplicity. They don't want more confusion in their life.Do as much research. Research who you're pitching to, their history, what’s worked for them, and what value you’ll be delivering in your product or serviceEnsure the people you’re talking to really understand that you appreciate where they're coming from as well.In every pitch, bring one cool, awesome thing that they can remember,The best thing about working with a creative collaborator such as Cleve Keller is the ability to bounce something off of not only creatively, but business-wise off of someone that you trust. If you’d like to reach Dave, you can engage with him on LinkedIn In Summary, creativity goes hand in hand with positivity, but it's also all about sharing everything. To be able to be creative, you must exercise those creative muscles daily. The same way as you lift weights or play golf, to get that swing down. You have to do it every single day until you hit on that magical thing.

Ep 88Mickie Kennedy, eReleases Public Relations
Mickie Kennedy, eReleases Public RelationsMickie Kennedy is an expert at helping small businesses, authors, and startups increase their visibility and credibility. Mickie founded eReleases 22+ years ago after realizing that small businesses desperately need a press release service they can actually afford, giving them access to the media and to a national newswire – all with a personal touch.Mickie lives in Baltimore County with his family and two feuding cats. He enjoys British science fiction and acknowledges an unhealthy addiction to diet soda. Mickie holds an MFA in Creative Writing with an emphasis in Poetry from George Mason University. He still writes poetry most Monday nights (virtually) with a group of fellow misfits in Brunswick, Maryland.Key Metrics About MickieHe has distributed more than 100,000 press releases for more than 10,000 customersHe has worked with more than 20 Shark Tank companies, including Manscaped & Squatty PottyHe has generated in excess of $87 million in earned media for his clientsHe is an Amazon Best-Selling Author in Public Relations and MarketingHe has has more than 20+ years of experience helping small businesses succeed with PRWe discussed:1. How to Write a Powerful Press ReleaseMickie literally wrote the book on writing powerful press releases, earning him Amazon Best Seller’s status in Public Relations and Marketing: Beginner’s Guide to Writing Powerful Press Releases. More than 10,000 print copies have been sold, with more than 40,000 digital versions sold or given away on Kindle, Apple Books, and the eReleases website.2. How to Apply Strategy to Your Press Release Plan for Proven ResultsMining 22+ years of press release successes and failures, Mickie can distill what will work when building a PR campaign of six or more press releases, preventing you from sending the dreaded “new hire” press release that will likely get ignored.3. Why Press Releases Provide the Biggest ROI of Most Marketing Campaigns. You can launch a PR campaign of 6 press releases including distribution over a bonafide press release newswire (like PR Newswire, when using eReleases) for under $2,000. If just one of those press releases lands a key article in a major publication you could see thousands of visitors and hundreds of new customers. If you apply strategy, there’s no reason why at least two of those press releases won’t garner actual media pickup: actual articles, possibly even links, in magazines, newspapers, blogs, trade publications, and more (including TV and radio)—both online and offline.4. How To Get Regular Local Media Coverage Without Spending a DimeLocal media is the easiest media to obtain. Best of all, it doesn’t require anything more from you than your time. Mickie breaks down the way to systematically work to get on local media’s radar and finally get some articles, features, and interviews in newspapers, online sites, TV, and radio.5. Honing Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) to Make You Irresistible to the MediaWhat makes you different? Faster shipping, more selection, unique features? By conducting a USP audit you can better position your company for business and getting media attention.6. How Credibility Through PR Allows You To Close More Sales, Both Online and OfflineGetting media coverage boosts your credibility, bringing you traffic, improved SEO, and better customers. Discover how clients hack this credibility to close more sales, regardless whether selling online or offline.7. How I Doubled the Number of Repeat Customers Through Trust-Building as an Online CompanyThe number of people who judge the value of PR from a single press release and not a PR campaign of 6 or more press releases is frustrating. That being said, it’s part of the business as people skip from one shiny marketing object to another. I worked strategically to educate my customers and establish trust, doubling the number of customers who bought multiple press releases—all as an online company.8. Mickie Is Professionally Trained to Write PoetryMickie holds an MFA in Creative Writing With an Emphasis in Poetry from George Mason University. What does that mean? It means Mickie can stand his own against Emily Dickinson in an MMA cage fight if it was less of a cage and more of a library table with a pad of paper between them. Regardless, this cat knows how to spin a yarn and mix his metaphors with the best of them.

Ep 87Lisa Orkin, Audio Storyteller
In this episode, meet podcast creator, producer, and consultant Lisa Orkin. She is a great storyteller that uses audio and sound to paint a picture for her audience. Lisa started her own podcast, then working with indie podcasts, and now bigger businesses are into it and advertising has also come into it.Her secret for storytellingLisa says that her secret to better storytelling is to paint pictures instead of words. Rather than narrating how something feels or seems, she describes how it looks -- and that’s how to successfully paint a picture in listeners’ minds. Lisa also loves to expand people’s limits by giving her audiences a nice push out of their comfort zones. Her projectsShe is currently working on Michael Cohen’s podcast for Audio Up. She also has Project Woowoo, which is her own fun podcast. Lisa likes helping people with the creative aspects of their podcasts, especially intros and outros. Since she works with people who have been in that industry, she finds that it is super important to help them decipher what they want to say and find a way to say it in a way that is going to be attention-grabbing.AuthenticityLisa believes that it is important to have authenticity in media; people want to see who you are in all ways and that will keep people interested in you and what you have to say. People want real. And even for hosts who prefer to keep to themselves and just present information, they can still present information in a way that represents them. Find the line where comfortable, authentic, and private lay side to side -- it does take practice but you just got to do it and get out there. Audio vs. Writing For Lisa, the difference when writing for listening is that everything has to be shorter and more precise. Use the dialog to paint a picture but in a way that also is engaging. One of the mistakes people make when they’re writing for audio is that they write something that is meant to be read. Audio sentences must be short, but also be filled with information and move the story enough without much narration or feeling tedious. Her creative journeyLisa had all kinds of jobs before choosing the artistic path of writing. She started writing with her dad, Dick Orkin. She felt like the Radio Ranch was a family business that allowed her to grow, While she wanted to be an actor, she found that her true passion was in writing. What’s AheadLisa hopes to soon make more shows and use the medium to its fullest to tell as many stories as possible. She is ready to set off on her ideas with many great collaborators. Ep 81Bruce Honig, Chief Executive Facilitator at IdeaGuides
During today’s episode, we are speaking to Bruce Honig.Bruce is the chief executive facilitator (CEF) of Honig IdeaGuides, which focuses on boosting leaders to facilitate meetings that are productive, engaging, and inspiring to teams both on- and off-site and virtually. With 24 years of experience, Bruce was the creativity guru way before it became a thing. He is a cultivated facilitator and trainer, author of a good number of books on creativity, a creator of board and card games around the same topic, a workshop facilitator, as well as a featured speaker in the Playful Creative Summit. Meeting up virtually in the sunny Bay Area, Bruce tells me how we can get out of our rut and into a more creative thinking process. Bruce has come up with 4 stages in the creativity process known as B.E.T.A. He compares these creative stages to an individual’s fingerprint. As an individual, you must be aware of what’s unique to you, what generic stage you’re in, and what kind of environment harnesses your creativity. For Bruce, that awareness of his creativity helps him and others he is working with. How does Bruce use BETA to unlock the creativity process? B- Blocked; Be aware of any internal and external factors blocking your fate. Internal factors would be assumptions you have of the world.E- Exercise; The only way to be creative is to go right ahead and just be creative! Exercise being creative by doing something you haven’t done before.T - Tools; For ideation to occur you need tools for Brainstorming, Focusing, and Decision- making.A - Awareness; Be aware of your generic creativity. Just like a toddler, walking is something that they are inherently born with the knowledge to do. When it comes to facilitating a group, ensure you’re not the one coming up with the new ideas, but you are steering your team to generate these ideas. A good facilitator will ensure the team has all the materials needed, and all resources that are there, and instructions on how to do it. Group creativity sessions follow the BETA process but you move beyond focusing and defining the problem to exploring ideas and solutions together.Embracing technology using tools like the breakout rooms in zoom, Mural for collaboration, is key to facilitating virtually.Other resources mentioned in this episode:Bruce’s Idea guides websiteDownloadable tools and resourcesLinkedIn Bruce the CEF SummaryOverall. Bruce teaches us how to use the BETA steps in cultivating the creativity that is inherently within us and as a facilitator how to achieve the same results in a group setting, moving beyond ideation to problem-solving. Ep 76Morry Zelcovitch, Brainwave Entrainment Engineer
Morry Zelcovitch The World's First And Only Brainwave Entrainment Engineer Morry says:Quantum Brainwave Entrainment started when I was a child. I had many problems. I heard thousands of voices in my head, and I had severe depression. I was always getting into trouble and was unbelievably accident-prone. I have dislocated my shoulders alone over 150 times. I won’t even get into the myriad of broken bones, shredded tendons, and ligaments, concussions, etc.Something inside me made me start looking into the brainwave entrainment field...And I began to observe that sometimes, time would seem to move faster and more pleasantly than at other times.I eventually made the connection that when time seemed to move quicker, the sounds I was hearing were more rhythmic in nature. And when time seemed to be at a painful standstill, the surrounding sounds were far more disjointed in nature".This experience was the beginning of a 20-year odyssey of deep study and research into the field of quantum brainwave entrainment. After many years of using other people’s products, with some limited success, I was determined to figure out why these recordings seemed to work only in a minor way when all of the research I read suggested the effects should be more dominant than what I was experiencing.I decided that my best route to understanding was learning at the feet of an expert in the field. So I contacted the world's foremost expert in the field of brainwave entrainment, David Siever C.E.T. and discovered some invaluable secrets that I just could not get anywhere else. After several years of learning from David Siever I’m now one of the few in the world who actually can claim to be a "certified Brainwave Entrainment Engineer/Specialist" and have the education to back it up!Now I’ve conquered those extra voices in my head and severe depression. It's become my mission in life to help others improve their quality of life without the use of dangerous and habit-forming drugs. www.themorrymethod.com Twitter - @themorrymethod https://www.linkedin.com/in/morryzelcovitch

Ep 75The BizBros, Content Is Profit
This is a fantastic high-energy interview with The BizBros -- my friends, Luis and Fonzi. So good that I've included an entire transcript!Hear the highlights including:the publishing pyramidminimal viable contentconsistency and accountabilitythe power of LIVE!I saved this one for our milestone episode 75!!!In this episode of Unlocking your World of Creativity, Mark talks to the Bizbros. They are Luis and Fonzi, a couple of brothers from Venezuela who started their entrepreneurship in the US, and now they have a company dedicated to providing marketing and content services for all types of contacts. Not quite the sameEven though Luis and Fonzi are brothers, they have vastly different personalities and that also means getting two unique takes on the same project. So Luis takes care of the operational side of things whereas Fonzi focuses on the creative side of things. How it all startedThroughout their childhood, Luis and Fonzi were not like other kids. For starters, they lived in Venezuela where entrepreneurship was not common. But they started as kids, they were creative and resourceful. Their parents always made them work to get what they wanted and this made them very aware of much thought and work that went into getting the things they wished for. Eventually, this mentality came to them as adults where they devised a way to transform their ideas into a business together. What they doLuis and Fonzi offer only one service in their agency. However, this is not a weakness for them. The focus in being the best there is in their field. The Bizbros grab long-form content and turn it into a ton of amazing assets for whatever objective organic paid media and what that comes at. So it's basically leveraging your platform. So we offer that as a service for other people inside of that, there are different phases. There are about seven phases that we've been able to develop, with our team to do that. They essentially leverage your platform and are looking to boost up the visits to their site. They started printing t-shirts in Florida to now have a full agency of social media marketing. They built some brick-and-mortar campaigns, diversified the service aspect, and also hired a coach to help them with the business. From there, it was a smoother sail. What makes content profitable? Or how does one think about content in the context of profit? Basically, their approach to content is to make it evergreen, useful and that the content is a bridge to create more customer relationships that help to grow the numbers. Ep 73Bree Noble, Making Money by Making Music
Bree Noble is the CEO of a Female Musician Academy, helping female musicians to make money from their music. And she also has some great podcasts of her own: The Women of Substance Music Podcast, the Female Entrepreneur Musician Podcast. How do you take someone from just a great singer to a star?Bree explains that while she works in the music industry, not everything depends on talent. There is an element of constant risk-taking, perseverance, effort and even a bit of luck to finally get your music and talent out there. “You have to take a risk yourself, but then you have to have the perseverance and put in the effort to keep going when that doesn't work out the first time.”Bree also explains that the real secret of successful musicians is not only going viral or getting notices by a big-shot producer but rather focusing on hard work and dedication to the art they’re passionate about. “You know, when you have a small business, nobody knows who you are when you first start, you've got to start off on word of mouth and referrals and start getting your name out there. And it's just the same with musicians.”Back in the day, the only way for musicians to be noticed was through getting a record label deal and taking how. Nowadays, with Spotify, Youtube, and those platforms, amateur artists can showcase their music in those platforms and build their career from the ground without necessarily waiting for a label. So while yes, there is a market there to get the exposure that doesn’t take away the element of constant hard work needed to be a truly successful musician. For one thing, you can generate income from streams by building a fan base. Working as a freelancer, session recordings, teaching, or anything else, you can stream, and once you build a good enough fan base you can monetize from it and you’re also constantly getting the word out about your music and what you do. your fan base is, is an asset that can work for you in so many different ways. Sure, you can start a career without them or you can have a fan base that will support you and assist to intimate concerts or studio classes. The best venues for your music genreBree advises that you don't try to fit your music into a place where it doesn't belong because it will just be frustrating. There are so many micro-genres now that you can find a place where your music fits absolutely perfectly into that. Bree tells us how she combined Christian music and Broadway music and jazz all in the same performance, you've got an audience that likes variety. So you're not stuck in one genre. You just need to know what your audience is, where you are and how you can serve them.Right now, you don’t need to live in a specific place to make your music career happen. Social media, Clubhouse, and others are platforms where you can share your music globally and you can take advantage of the opportunities the internet offers. Now you don’t need to be in a particular city to meet people. Courses, curriculum, coaching -- teaching artists, how to be better business people. Bree says that she is a hands-on creator who likes to sit down, jot down a few bullet points and then go on a live stream and talk to get her creative juices going. That way she comes up with her ideas in a much more active manner that makes her feel productive. She also told us that she is finding her podcasts much more fun than a single-event summit. What are some of the topics Bree covers in her podcast?Making money from musicWays to be more efficient while making money from music Different tools to use to make your life easier Female-centered businesses What, what advice or insight would Bree have for someone who is a female and entrepreneur and a musician right now?Consider thinking about yourself as an entrepreneur Find a community of like-minded female entrepreneur musicians like yourself or aspiring ones that are doing what you're wanting to do, where you can get that kind of support.Mentorship and having a group of supportive other females is really important.Make sure to follow Bree in all her projects and find out more about how to make money from your music by going to her website: profitablemusician.com.
