Episode 35: Groomed by Darkness, Pursued by The Light: From Staunch Atheist, to "Toe In the Water" Christian, to Full-Blown Jesus Fanatic - Danny Baideme
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” -Proverbs 22:6 What if the person you look up to the most taught you everything you're not supposed to do in this life? How would it affect you? It would probably make you afraid of everything. Your father, teaching you to steal, then chiding you for getting caught - even when you follow his exact instructions on what to do should you get caught. And this happens when you're six years old. That basically sums up the childhood of Danny Baideme (pronounced “Bay-de-may”). Danny’s father (whom she was named after) was a bookie in the ghetto of Omaha, Nebraska. Respected by all who knew him outside the home, life was absolute hell on earth inside it.She was taught how to steal cigarettes when she was 6. If one of her father’s petty heists went awry, Danny would soon feel the blunt end of his Size 11 boot - and it wasn’t just on the backside either. Is it any wonder that Danny chose to embrace “the dark side” spiritually? Then a literal slap in the face changed everything. Meaning Danny slapped a guy while on a date. The guy reacted in a non-threatening way, i.e. the way Jesus would want a person to react, and it was over. She wanted to know more about this Jesus person in the man (who is now her husband). After accepting Jesus as her savior, and spending years as a “toe in the water” Christian, a providential meeting with a roving security guard at a museum compelled her to take up the cross she bears to this day.In our conversation with Danny Baideme, you'll hear:-Danny's childhood groomed her to be a thief and a con...04:55father was a bookie in an Omaha, Nebraska ghettopeople would owe his dad money and dad would go after them, shoot them, run them over with a car, etc (while Danny was in the car)youngest memories are lying, stealing, listening to dad beat her and her mom up"You're stupid, you're worthless, you're nothing""If I'm doing bad, he's proud of me. (11 years old)Dad still came in and destroyed her room and beat her up a littleThis was the night Danny became an atheist.-Selling out to the Devil...17:50So filled with hate, she had no conscious anymoreShe started shoveling drugs in her nose, smoking, selling her body, ran away from home, dad almost blinded herDad would be nice to her to get drugs for herNo moral guide led to her not caringI empathize with them because I understand what it's like to be a monster and not have any feelings.Adopted a very tough persona "I wanted to be as big of a monster as he was"-Meeting Phil...20:50Worked at a casino - she got clean to get the job and learned to look more femininePhil was a kind computer nerdSmacked him in the mouth on 2nd date - he grabbed her hand and said, "If we're going to do this, you can't do that"He smiled at my brokenness - strongest, most masculine man I'd ever metDanny started asking questions like, "If God is really real, ....."Phil used scripture to answer Danny's questions-Danny becomes a toe-in the water christian...26:0022 years old she read John 3:16, asked for forgiveness and gave her life to ChristBy this time, Danny had 2 abortions and never felt anything about them, despite knowing abortion was a sinDay after being saved, she began witnessing to her familyPhil and Danny were soon married and started a familyPhil wanted to go to church but Danny felt she didn't belongstarted scheming to get Phil drunk on Saturday so they could skip church on Sundaywitnessed often, didn't pray, didn't read anything biblical-Danny's biggest breakthrough...30:10"These God people" kept coming to the houseOur church, River Valley had a 7 day prayer challenge cardsPhil encouraged Danny to volunteer at the prayer challenge"God, if you want me to volunteer or anything stupid like that, you better hit me in the head with a 2X4" 16 years of marriageShe was "comfortable" being a toe-in-the-water christianMade eye contact with the security guy, "You two are down with the bible, huh?" - What?!?Always dressed to get hit on - "I don't look like a lady who believes in God"Security officer says, "I think I'm supposed to tell you you're supposed to volunteer or something."Prayed with and witnessed to people at the men's shelter-How Danny became comfortable with ministry...43:10We all have to do our parts, collectivelyDriving vans and picking up kids in the inner-cityWomen are breaking free from prostitution, choosing not to get abortionsFriday Night Street Minis

Episode 34: Iron Sharpens Iron: Why the Company We Keep is So Vital to Our Relationship With God with Punky Tolson
"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17"You're the average of the five people you spend the most time with."Are you in good company?Punky Tolson made a promise when she was in high school. She had just become a Christian, and was full of high hopes of serving Jesus for the rest of her life. Then she went to college - and promptly fell away from the faith, not to mention the promise she had made a few short years earlier. She sought love, comfort, acceptance in the company of man after man after man - sometimes with no regard for the relationship status of the man she was with.In one case, her presence most definitely put her man's status to "It's complicated.""But I was helping him find happiness, he was in a bad marriage," she told herself. The rationalization hamster just keeps on spinning, doesn't it? It spins one' reality distortion into absolute truth if you let it.Why did this happen? Where were the friends who saw what was going on? Why didn't they intervene, try to make her see the error of her ways? The company we keep defines who we are. When Punky began hanging out with people who meant business with their walk with God, she began making better decisions. Now she and her husband minister to those who are walking the path they've walked, in hopes others will stand strong in their faith. In this episode, you'll hear:-Why giving up is the best place to be...04:45-How Punky got to the end of herself...11:35-How Punky dealt with her breast cancer diagnoses...17:30-Disciple-making and Punky's mission to help women...25:45-What most people don't know about Punky...29:45Resources mentioned:punkytolson.com(You can find her Life on Life podcast on her website)John PiperCall to action:To learn more about Wendie and her Visibly Fit program, visit wendiepett.comTo find out more about Todd and his coaching program for men, find him on the web at toddisberner.com.All the links you need to subscribe to the podcast are at both our websites! Episode 32: Hard-Charging High Achiever Helps Men Find Proper Balance Between Performance and Intimacy w/ God
Assembling words goes way back for Jon Edward Fugler. Growing up in Upstate New York, his first writing effort was to publish a neighborhood newspaper — which lasted one issue. In middle school, Jon printed and distributed a newsletter to his classmates and teachers reporting on his board game baseball league. In 1973, Jon came to know Christ after hearing a college football coach speak on how to be born again. This event would change the course of his life and writing. He spent over 30 years in Christian radio, turning out script after script, beginning as the radio writer for Dr. Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ. From there, he wrote scores of scripts that would impact the hearts of radio listeners across the country.Jon’s writing extended into print when, for a decade, he published the Christian Times newspaper, connecting believers with what God was doing in their community.Journaling has been Jon’s habit for over four decades. He sometimes looks back on those writings to inspire him for his current works. His conversational style connects with readers on a personal level. Writing from his heart, he hopes readers’ lives will be different through their relationship with Jesus Christ.“It’s not about performing for Jesus,” says Jon. “It’s about living with Jesus.”He was influenced by author Skye Jethani, who teaches that life over, under or for God leads to defeat. Life withGod is what every person desires. Jon sensed that developing a habit of doing life with God was missing for believers. That’s what inspired him to write his devotional series, starting with Life with God: 30 Days of Joy.“I feel that if someone can immerse themselves in one aspect of the Christian life for 30 days, it will change them,” says Jon. “This series is not about behavior. It’s all about relationship. The reader’s relationship with God. Growth happens when a person lets God flood their life.”Jon’s passion is that every person on earth has access to the gospel. He is active today in media ministry to the world. He and his wife live in North Carolina. Episode 31: Brenda Crouch Suffered Trauma As a Child and Forgiveness Was Extended As an Adult. God's Grace Put on Full Display After Healing a Deep Wound.
Have you ever found it hard to forgive someone for doing something so unforgivable? "I don't know man, there are some sins that just can't be forgiven." That's no doubt something you've said, thought, or heard someone else say. Maybe you feel there are certain sins that are so awful, the person who commits them can't be forgiven, or certainly doesn't deserve forgiveness. Our guest on today's episode was not a witness to such sins that may be deemed "unforgivable." She was the victim of it.Brenda Crouch suffered traumatic abuse at the hands of someone very close to her as a child. The person she should have been able to trust most became the source of her deepest pain. This person was fighting demons from his own past, and it caused massive failure and abuse. Brenda suppressed these memories, however they came back to her in the form of dreams and visions that were so real she knew they couldn't be just her imagination. She coped with this trauma by seeking approval of her looks, her physical appearance. She finally realized that God simply loves what's inside her, not outside.By understanding God's true grace, having this intimacy with God, she was able to extend genuine forgiveness to the one who had hurt her the most. Episode 30: The Chrisagis Brothers, Twins Who Escape Death, Share Laughter With Millions and Inspire Faith With Hollywood Elite
"She'd give the twelve apostles a run for their money." Family members made tremendous sacrifices so that they could be properly cared for.Surviving this ordeal gave Brian and Shawn confidence and faith in God and His Word that inspires thousands through their entertainment-based ministry. As they say, "Without the brokenness, you can't become like Christ."Their ministry has delighted audiences all over the world, and has opened doors to minister to heavyweights in the entertainment industry. Episode 29: Your Biggest Breakthrough Might Be a Process, Not Just an Event
Welcome to the show! We had the idea to name our podcast Your Biggest Breakthrough because in speaking with people in our respective niches - Todd coaching men and Wendie coaching women and men in the Visibly Fit program - we kept hearing about how small victories in seemingly insignificant parts of people's lives led to major breakthroughs.Breakthroughs in relationships, careers, physical appearance, health, the list goes on and on.The truth is, it's those small wins that often lead to our biggest "breakthrough". The Grand Canyon wasn't formed with a huge "breakthrough". It happened over a very long period of time. And so it goes in our lives. In this shorter-than-usual episode, Todd and Wendie both share experiences in their own business endeavors where their own faith was tested. There were no claps of thunder, nor bolts of lightning when their breakthroughs occurred.Only peace and joy as they quietly submitted their own will to God.In this episode, you'll hear:-A small breakthrough regarding perspective in Wendie's business...2:30-Understanding what is real and not real in our priorities...6:10-3 areas in which total honesty are required...8:40-Todd's burnout w/ his own business...11:00-"The business has never been 'mine' in the first place"...13:30-A standing invitation to find rest in the Lord...17:05-The process of surrender is different for everyone...18:30Call to action:To learn more about Wendie and her Visibly Fit program, visit wendiepett.comTo find out more about Todd and his coaching program for men, find him on the web at toddisberner.com.All the links you need to subscribe to the podcast are at both our websites! Episode 28: Cancel THIS: Christian Radio Personality Renews Love for Jesus, Marriage Vows After Digging Inch Wide, Mile Deep in Scripture
Cancel Culture. It's the buzzword of the age.Cancel everyone who's not in line with the consensus of The Mob.Cancel Christmas.Cancel 2020.Cancel the divorce.Wait, what? Cancel the divorce? Why, divorce should be the first option when a couple experiences difficulty in their marriage. At least that's how worldly minded people think.Chuck Knapp, our guest on this episode, says that the Cancel Culture, while real and problematic in the here and now, is actually advantageous for the Gospel. It just makes God and His word more real to those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. As a radio personality in both the Christian and secular realms, Chuck has long had a deep love for God and a desire to have the fruits of the Spirit manifest in his life. While not the personification of perfection, he's found the means to return to God and His word has allowed him to remain faithful. In fact, he and his wife even cancelled their pending divorce as they both dove deep into the Scriptures, and the truth contained in them, and allowed them to be real in their life and marriage. That's a Cancel Culture we most definitely approve of!In our conversation with Chuck, you'll hear:-How Chuck got interested in the afterlife...03:15-Pushing the boundaries of what could be said on the air while remaining clean...07:30-Why Chuck chose unemployment over a lifetime job offer in radio...11:45-Why it was so easy to let loose in an environment that was known for its predictability...18:30-Leaving radio ministry to pursue the desires of the flesh...22:30-The dangers of forsaking the armor of God...29:15-The process of restoration of the soul...33:30-Why Chuck and his wife cancelled their divorce...36:15-Chuck's wife Cheryl shares her perspective on the cancelled divorce...40:30Resources mentioned: Book: Undefeated Innocence by Chuck's wife, CherylBook: Created for ConnectionThe Rhythmic Community course offered by Chuck's home church

Episode 27: Beware the Slippery Slope of Compromise, For It Will Lead to Your Downfall w/ Bill Scott
Bill Scott shares a deeply intimate story of how he erred in his thinking, and allowed his pride, not to mention a deep hurt not fully processed, to cause him to stray from what he knew was the right way to walk.Bill reveals the exact moment he chose to forsake his conscience and give in to a deceptive mindset. His skewed rationale prevented him from heeding the sound counsel he received to change direction and avoid certain consequences. The beauty of Bill's story is not just one of restoration but also how you can offer hope and comfort to others who are hurting. We're grateful for Bill being willing to share his story, and we do so in hopes our listeners will perhaps be swayed in the right direction when they are on the edge of a slippery slope of compromise. Episode 24: Pearls Formed Through Dysfunction, How a Sports Journalist Overcame Generational Trauma to Help Women Overcome Life's Trials

She was at his side when he passed en route to the hospital.Sadly, Lisa's mom never recovered from this trauma. She numbed her pain with alcohol and prescription drugs - to the point she couldn't even care for Lisa and she had to live with her grandmother for several years.Fast forward a decade or three, and Lisa is now a traveling correspondent for ESPN, at the time a brand new network that covered exclusively sports. She needed something more stable. So she turned down what at one point would have been considered her dream job. She was offered employment with ESPN as a full-time reporter, but she turned it down to take a less prestigious position in San Antonio, TX. She did this because she felt called to be there for her mother - in spite of her mother not exactly being there for her at critical times in her childhood. Now in 2021, Lisa sees that the trauma she experienced vicariously through the womb and the ensuing dysfunction in her childhood was the pressure needed to make her into a pearl that minister's the grace of God - the only Father she has ever known - to those with similar experiences. In this episode, you'll discover:-Dysfunction defined...05:00-What causes us to break free from dysfunction...07:15-The tragedy that contributed to dysfunction in Lisa's childhood...10:30-The moment Lisa accepted Jesus as Lord in 9th grade English class...14:00-How Lisa got into sports broadcasting...17:00-How losing the sweet gig led to a personal collapse...21:30-If you feel like you need to go back to church, you probably do :) ...24:00-How Lisa redeemed her faith with a new opportunity in broadcasting...26:30-How to gain proper perspective when facing a challenge...28:25-How a shift in mindset led Lisa to turn down her dream job...31:00-How Lisa reconciled with her dysfunctional mom...34:00-About Lisa's current ministry, Pearls of Promise...37:45-Lisa chose to be healed...42:00Resources from this episode:Lisa's website: pearlsofpromiseministries.comThe Root That Never Died: A Christian Woman’s Journey Back to Her Hebraic HeritageThe Only Father I Ever Knew: How a Fatherless Child Finally Found True LovePOP Talk RadioReady For Your Biggest Breakthrough?Find out exactly what stands between you and your biggest breakthrough and how you can achieve your next level of living. "Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." -Matthew 5:10In this episode of the show, we welcome Okongo Samson and his wife Shyla. Now anyone who adorns the cross of Jesus in any way knows what persecution is. It can be as mild as murmuring behind your back, or in more extreme forms, bodily harm and even death can come about. No matter what form it takes, it's not enjoyable in the flesh to endure. But with God's grace, we can take joy in our suffering, because we know it's not really us that is suffering; it's the One we serve that is really the target.Okongo has suffered mightily while serving God, so much so that we can't share in this description for fear the Apple bots will take notice and deplatform our show. Episode 21: Wendie Pett Shares How to Get Unstuck and Experience a Breakthrough in Mind, Body, and Spirit to Get Visibly Fit
Why should we give a hoot about our physical appearance? Is it to look sexy, or attractive to the opposite sex, or to simply feel good about ourselves? All those are well and good in their proper place, but Wendie takes things a bit further and says we should be concerned with our physical appearance and well-being because we are the temple of the living God. (1 Corinthians 6:19)Paul said to the Romans that we are to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). Does this mean God is unpleased with us, or that we've somehow failed Him if we put on a few pounds over time? Of course not. What it does mean is that God desires us to be fit to serve him, and we can best serve him when our body is working at its optimal level. In this special episode, Todd interviews Wendie about her Visibly Fit program that she's operated successfully for over 2 decades. You'll hear:-How the Visibly Fit brand began over two decades ago...3:30-Why you should begin with fitness in the mind before the body...5:40-Two things you can do right now to begin shifting your mindset...8:30-Wendie's biggest challenge client in her coaching business...13:55-Why it's necessary to become visibly fit in body...15:40-The three things to immediately start with in taking care of your body...18:00Take a walkEat better foodDrink more water-Why you need to "release" not "lose" weight...24:30-How poor health may separate us from our Creator...26:15-How to encourage healthy spiritual fitness...28:05-Stories of victory following the Visibly Fit program...30:45-How to contact Wendie and get started!...33:00Resources mentioned:getvisiblyfit.comwendiepett.comyourbiggestbreakthrough.comReady For Your Biggest Breakthrough?Find out exactly what stands between you and your biggest breakthrough and how you can achieve your next level of living. Episode 20: What the Laws of Physics Teach Us About Pure Potential, Retraining the Brain and Finding Sweet Surrender w/ Lisa Jimenez
Zero-point energy is "the lowest possible energy that a quantum mechanical system may have." While that sounds a tad bit technical, Lisa Jimenez brilliantly incorporates that principle of physics into her practice of helping clients, listeners and readers to retrain their brain. In her words, "If you have nothing, you have everything." Why is this? Because you're not relying on the past to define you, nor your future to fulfill you. All you have is what you have NOW, and what you make of it is telling of your mindset.Lisa isn't just full of high-minded platitudes. She has walked the walk through a devastating divorce, as well as finding success as a speaker and mentor to others (which comes with its own set of challenges). We humans are the only element of creation that has the ability to choose one thought, or one emotion over another. With this unique ability, Lisa tells us we can change our mindset and finally find that sweet surrender to our Creator and His will for our lives. In our discussion with Lisa Jimenez, you'll hear:-How Lisa defines a mindset, and why we need to reset our mindset...03:30-Embrace, not resist your duality as a part of God's creation...09:15-From breakdown to breakthrough...11:15-How Lisa learned how to reset her own mindset...19:00-What gets in the way of us surrendering...24:10-Lisa's steps to changing a money mindset...28:20-Where does the faith come from to change our mindset...38:10About the guest:"I’m a mom of three fab kids, a blushing new bride to JJ, an opera singer in the shower, and I’m obsessed with mastering the ukulele for my “future” grand babies!I love fearless living, luxury travel, stimulating conversations, and inspiring myself and others to unleash our gifts and share them with the world."To learn more about Lisa, and some of her free offerings, visit: lisajcoaching.com/freebiesReady For Your Biggest Breakthrough?Find out exactly what stands between you and your biggest breakthrough and how you can achieve your next level of living. Episode 19: The Many Layers of Deception With "Hitting the Big Time" Financially w/ Paul Wessel
Paul Wessel has seen it all. For better or worse, for richer or poorer, Paul has been there and done that. When his son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, and wanted to die from having his finger pricked constantly, Paul invented a blood glucose monitor that his son could play with kind of like a Game Boy. After years of struggling to make ends meet while pitching his invention to various corporations, he finally got picked up by a major corporation in Germany. While it seemed his financial worries were over, it opened up a brand new set of challenges to overcome. In many ways, the days of hacking the neighboring church's power supply to power his home was easier than his life with all the money in the world. He admits the sudden fortune, wining and dining, the showering with gifts and luxury went to his head, before eventually realizing all of these so-called "perks" was their way of saying, "We own you and your ideas."If ever a man's life resembled a roller coaster ride, it's Paul's. On top of struggles with raising disabled children, he's also endured the heartbreak of divorce twice. In his words, he's managed to get through all of it by simply relying on God's grace, and remaining faithful to the principles that enabled him to endure the struggles he faced as a young man. You'll be inspired by Paul's story, and you'll also learn some hard-earned wisdom on how to run a profitable business (or if you should even start it in the first place.)In our conversation with Paul, you'll hear:-How two dramatic events with Paul's children began his career with the medical device industry...5:30-A very personal "aha" moment that led to Paul's first entrepreneurial venture...12:30-The levels of stress broke his first marriage apart...16:00-Why most marriages with a chronically ill child fail...19:00-Bringing the invention to market with serious financial struggles...22:15-How to know whether an inspiring idea is viable for the marketplace...27:00-The subtle perversion that takes place when finances prosper...31:30-How Paul has stayed true to his principles through success and deprivation...37:15-The most impactful advice Paul has received...44:30Ready For Your Biggest Breakthrough?Find out exactly what stands between you and your biggest breakthrough and how you can achieve your next level of living. Episode 18: The Scary Reality of Believing in Conspiracy Theories
"I lost my dad a long time before he passed from this world," says our guest, Micah Mitlyng.Like all kids, Micah's father was a superhero in his eyes when he was a young child. He could do no wrong. But as he grew older and wiser, he began to sense something wasn't quite right. His father was obsessed with what we call "conspiracy theories". Things like ... Black helicopters spying at the behest of Big Brother. The President of the United States and half his cabinet members are aliens from another planet. Secret meetings of the Elites planning the future of mankind and a growing list born more out of imagination than facts. Not that there's anything intrinsically wrong with showing interest in current events and not sticking your head in the sand. I mean, who can prove definitely that the Illuminati doesn't exist? But when a person is so consumed with unfounded theories that it causes one to lose touch with things that are immediately affecting them - family, job, community - it's problematic to say the least. The era of social media has confounded the problem even more, explains Micah. Of course, Facebook and Twitter are often in the news for distorting reality, for having a distinct bias toward a particular worldview. But many smaller sites and platforms are just as guilty. They don't have as big a reach as Mark Zuckerberg or Jack Dorsey, but they do have an agenda. The agenda isn't to spread truth to their patrons, it's to sell ad space. And what sells and holds one's attention better than a story that taps into our worst fears? We discuss this and much more with Micah, and then share some practical tips on how to enjoy social media without it dominating your life. In this episode, you'll hear:-How Micah lost his father to conspiracy theories...08:00-Creating a world where you're in control...12:20-Pushing back against the insanity...14:30-How conspiracy theories create the illusion of community and belonging...-How social media makes even a fleeting interest become a full-on obsession...19:00-How to heighten your awareness and develop a balanced worldview...23:10-How Micah broke through a troubled past...27:00-Own when you're wrong more than prove you're right...33:50-One conspiracy you can believe in...35:00-5 ways to maintain normalcy with technology...38:45Ready For Your Biggest Breakthrough?Find out exactly what stands between you and your biggest breakthrough and how you can achieve your next level of living. Episode 17: Where Am I Going? And Why Am I In This Hand Basket? Sometimes You Just Have to Laugh While the World Seems to Burn Around Us
Two blondes driving from Minneapolis to Fargo saw a road sign that said, "Clean restrooms ahead."Those two blondes cleaned 19 restrooms before they made it to Fargo.Go ahead. You may as well laugh. Because it's good for you!We know that God has a sense of humor, because he made us, and we are created in his image. The Scriptures are replete with calls for laughter. Job, for example, who had as much reason to be sorrowful as anyone, was told by his friend Bildad, "He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy."Of course, we don't know what occurred after that exchange. Maybe Job popped him in the nose after Bildad said that. That would be funny, wouldn't it?Ecclesiastes says there's a time for everything done under the sun. A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to dance and a time to mourn. There's been plenty to mourn about this past year, hasn't there? If you watch the news, or even scroll your Facebook feed, it's enough to make anyone feel hopeless. That's why you need to literally force yourself to laugh. So quit watching the news, put a hard limit on time you spend on social media. Use that newfound time to watch cat videos on YouTube, or watch people trip at the mall. (Bonus points if you can make them trip.)Of course, you don't want to be seen as the village idiot. You need proper balance in everything. But we put together this episode to remind you that in this world in which we live, you need to make an effort to laugh. Even when... No, especially when laughing is the last thing you feel like doing. Here's what you'll hear in this week's episode:-Reason to be pessimistic...02:45-Laughter is "internal jogging"...05:00-Does God laugh?...08:05-There's a time and a place for everything, including laughter...11:00-What makes Wendie and Todd laugh?...14:55-Make the decision to learn to laugh...20:10-Watch news less, laugh more...23:00-"The perfect couple"...29:30Ready For Your Biggest Breakthrough?Find out exactly what stands between you and your biggest breakthrough and how you can achieve your next level of living. Think about a time you got fired from a job. Perhaps you said the wrong thing at the wrong time. That was the world Jennifer Strickland thought was normal. Armani fired her, and the agency that employed her didn't know what to do with her. (Sound crazy? Are you tired of making a mess of things because you've been doing everything in your own strength? Today's episode will show you the way to freedom and how to become who you were meant to be, by surrendering.Emma Mullings wanted to die when she was young. It's not that she hated her life, it's that she terribly missed her mother who was taken from this earth when she was only 4 years old.In the darkest place you can be spiritually, her life was seemingly in a tailspin. Then she was approached by someone at a church near where she lived in Australia. She attended a few services, always leaving right before the altar call.Who wants to be "that gal" that needs to get saved? Of course, everyone knows it's you that's the biggest sinner in the room - or so said her pride at the time. But eventually, she relented, in her words, "running" to the altar to give her heart to Jesus. The troubled child suddenly had hope. She married a strapping young lad, a saint who patiently waited for Emma to work through the massive dysfunction she had known her entire life. She became an award winning success in the Australian music scene. Episode 13: Don't Get Hung Up on the "Hows" - Todd and Wendie Talk Goal-Setting and Going With the Flow In the New Year!
As we bid farewell to what has arguably been the most unusual calendar year in human history, Todd and Wendie share some insights and guidance on how to set "SMART" goals moving forward.Goals can be a blessing in that they keep us on target and accountable. They give us something to aim for in that there's always even a faint light at the end of the tunnel even when the night seems to last forever. They can also be a bit of a hindrance to real progress. If we become obsessed with setting and keeping goals, they can potentially distract us from our mission and purpose in life. Sometimes you just have to "go with the flow" as they say. It's easier said than done, as Todd can attest. Going with the flow means we lose the illusion of being in control of our circumstances to a certain degree. But when your mind is stayed on God, when you trust Him to provide for your needs, letting go of control can be a beautiful thing. Lean in as Todd and Wendie shed light on New Year resolutions you can actually keep, setting goals that are in alignment with your calling in life, and how at the end of the day, it's God who gives the increase whether we stay true to our goals or not.In this episode, Todd and Wendie discuss:-Where is your mindset?...03:00-A different way to think of new year's resolutions...05:40-God's "2020 vision" turned out to be very different from what we expected...08:45-Be grateful in your circumstances, not for...12:00-S.M.A.R.T. goals explained...16:00SpecificMeasurableAttainableRealisticTime-sensitive-Goal-setting can be a type of bondage...20:55-We're wired to create and advance in life...23:30-Don't get hung up on the "hows"...26:40-The story of the dirt cookies...28:00Ready For Your Biggest Breakthrough?Find out exactly what stands between you and your biggest breakthrough and how you can achieve your next level of living.Get your FREE 12-page starter kit now!

Episode 12: Keep Calm and Stay Positive: Learn How Authentic Joy Can Override Negativity w/ Karol Ladd
Let's face it. There's no shortage of negativity in this world in which we live. It's easy - natural even - to focus on that negativity. To have an outlook that transcends all that negative energy and emotions, and focus on the positive is a miracle in its own right.Karol Ladd is able to do just that, and gives all the credit to God and His Spirit for that ability.Having a genuine experience with God at a young age, Karol learned to discern the source of joy she felt as the Holy Spirit. She doesn't have any dramatic stories of turning from God, and having him rescue her from some mess she made. She just plodded along in the joy of the Lord, trusting Him through good times and not so good times.Sometimes being boring isn't so bad, right? It was the joy of the Lord, trusting in the efficacy of the Scriptures that enabled Karol to process the grief of suddenly losing her mother in a vehicle accident. It was the joy of the Lord that allowed Karol to take the skills she developed teaching 6th grade math and science and help parents turn ordinarily boring things like birthday parties into memorable events and eventually mentoring parents to have a meaningful impact in the lives of their children.About the guest:Known as the “Positive Lady,” Karol Ladd is the best-selling author of over 35 books including The Power of a Positive Mom and Thrive, Don’t Simply Survive. She is a popular keynote speaker for conferences, retreats, and events. Episode 11: The Most Perfect Podcast You'll Ever Hear (and We're Not Interviewing Jesus) It's Brant Hansen
This episode will teach you how to be perfect in all things, at all times, in all ways. Your listening experience will be perfect. Your fingers will glide across your iPhone with ease, your forefinger will touch every button correctly the first time. Your mind and spirit will be perfectly calm, you will comprehend every word spoken and be able to recite it with perfect recall on the first listen.Sounds a little cray cray, right? If that were the expectation, you probably wouldn't want to listen at all.So why do we expect things to be perfect in other parts of our life? For Brant Hansen, perfection prevented him from writing his first book. But then it occurred to him, that he couldn’t write the perfect book anyway. Once he accepted that reality, he made the decision to go ahead and start by committing to write at least one chapter. Brant discovered that those perfectionist tendencies enabled a bad habit of procrastination. One of the cures for this? Live radio. You can't procrastinate when the little red light is about to turn on in 3 seconds. What comes out of your mouth is what you've got to give in that moment. If you're terrible - or worse, mediocre - you just have to suffer through it and live to suck another day.Brant is a devoted follower of Jesus, and by his own admission, one who is perfectly “imperfect.” He came to realize that being "perfect" is not about being without sin, or fault. It means endeavoring to use our gifts to build His kingdom here on Earth to the best of our ability. Not to have our identity wrapped in these gifts, but in Him, now and forever. In our conversation with Brant, you'll hear: -Why not shipping your product is hidden protection for the ego...3:15-How live radio is a panacea for procrastination...8:20-How perfectionism plays out in Brant's relationship with his children...10:15-Brant's spiritual journey...15:20-Why perfectionism may be a mental illness...21:05-What to do with the phrase "Be ye perfect" in the Bible...24:55-How Brant has used his "handicaps" to his advantage...29:50-How not to be an "analytical Christian"...35:40-One thing you, dear listener, don't know about Brant...39:30-Wendie and Todd's takeaways from the episode...42:30branthansen.comLynchpin by Seth GodinUnoffendable by Brant HansonBlessed are the Misfits by BrantThe Truth About Us by BrantBIO: Brant Hansen is an author, nationally syndicated radio host, and advocate for healing children through CURE International. He’s won national “personality of the year” awards for his work on his offbeat and quirky radio show, which airs on more than 200 stations. Episode 10: Born Again in the Eyes of God (And the Government). How Robert Borelli Went from Mafia Henchman to Full-Blown Jesus Freak
It all started with a bucket of steam. When Robert Borelli was a wee lad, the “associates” in the local crime family told him to walk into the nearby store and order a bucket of steam.Of course, this is a ridiculous request. You don’t buy steam, by the bucket or any other way. Robert was being tested by these people, to see what he would be willing to do at their behest. It turns out Robert was willing to do quite a bit when ordered to do so. So much so that by the age of 20, he was granted audiences with the heads of New York’s major crime families. He was on the rise - and going the absolute wrong direction. His lack of conscience, his inability to comprehend consequences for his actions, however, led to his fall from grace from the mafia. He was told to move to Florida where his mother lived because he was too much of a liability to his associates. His mother told him to go back to New York because she couldn’t tolerate his reckless behavior and criminal lifestyle. Finally, after a weeklong spree of snorting cocaine, he was awakened by his two “angels”. These angels didn’t have wings, they had guns. They were there to arrest him and take him to prison, most likely for life.He accepted the concept of consequences a little too late. All Robert wanted was money for an attorney and some cigarettes at the prison commissary. He got a Bible. The Bible didn’t have money for a lawyer tucked away in its pages. But it did awaken a part of his soul that had been neglected to this point. He spent every possible moment watching Christian shows on his television in his cell. He was truly a changed man.His fellow inmates thought it a ruse. “You’re doing this because you’re in prison...but we all know who you really are...”When Robert was 60 days away from being released from prison, he wrote in his Bible, “Let your word penetrate my heart so that I never forget or dishonor you.”Robert has been out of prison for almost two decades, and he hasn’t reneged on his vow. He speaks to people that are of age to make the kinds of decisions that robbed him of the best years of his life. His message? “You don’t need to go through what I went through to get to where I am.”In our conversation with Robert Borelli, you’ll hear:-Growing up with the mafia a ubiquitous presence in the neighborhood...4:20-Discipled in the wrong way...10:34-“A legend in my own mind”...18:00-An addictive personality leads to big losses...22:00-Enabling bad behavior by giving it improper attention...25:05-Finding himself in jail at age 43...30:50-The Bible won’t pay for an attorney...35:30-Nurturing his new relationship with God...39:50-Using stubbornness for good rather than bad...44:00-How to contact Robert...48:00robertborelli.com214-235-2244The Witness by Robert Borelli (actually written by H. Episode 9: What Does Having a Bad Back, a Tube of Toothpaste, and Moses Parting the Red Sea Have to do with a Breakthrough?
Your biggest breakthrough is often a process, and on occasion it's an event. We expect it to happen in dramatic fashion. Perhaps we even wish it would happen that way. We're in deep crisis in our lives. On our knees, tears flowing, hands white-knuckled in fervent prayer, we cry out to God for his intervention. We often expect a clap of thunder and lightning, a miracle of biblical proportions to occur in our lives. And of course it's always possible for God to intervene in that way. But more often than not, t's the small, everyday breakthroughs that lead to our biggest breakthrough.Hannah Keeley, as you'll recall from Episode 4, expected a miracle, and found it when she folded her laundry. Not exactly Moses' parting of the Red Sea, is it? But it was a tiny shift in mindset that allowed Hannah - and all of us if we're open to it - to achieve the breakthrough we all desire.A shift in mindset is the thing that will propel you to the next level, and it starts with the mundane things in life.Allowing the body to recover from an injury in its own time (sorry old-timers, it takes more time the older you get)...Remembering your spouse gets irritated when you squeeze the toothpaste from the middle, so you mindfully squeeze it from the bottom. It's nothing that will make the evening news, but now you're in the right frame of mind to receive the abundance coming your way -- when the time is right.Remember these 3 things when it comes to breaking through...MindsetPerseverancePatienceHaving the mind of Christ, meaning you're obedient in every part of life, you'll say like the Scripture: "With God, nothing is impossible!"

Episode 8: Overcoming Chronic ControlFreakitis and Learning to Rest While the Storm Rages w/ Gaye Lindfors
ATTENTION CONTROL FREAKS, PERFECTIONISTS, DORM MOTHERS, HALL MONITORS, PETTY TYRANTS, BRIDEZILLAS, AND OCD MOTHER-IN-LAWS...This episode is for you. Gaye Lindfors was raised in a tiny town in central Minnesota. Taught from an early age to fear the Lord, she chose a career in Corporate America in order to "reconcile her faith with the real world." She desired a more practical way of living her faith than that of the monastic monk praying and handing out tracks to strangers. As the head of human resources for a major airline based in Minneapolis, Gaye was responsible for resolving at times extremely complex issues involving employees of the airline. So when her mother's Alzheimer's degraded to the point that she needed full-time live-in assistance, she thought, "No problem! I've got this."Famous last words.Gaye soon realized that dealing with an ill mother was not quite the same as dealing with complex issues involving employees with whom she had little or no emotional connection. She realized her controlling habits and mindset were a major obstacle to her ability to care for her mother, and was in turn creating health issues of her own.Gaye realized that in order to properly care for her mother, and for her own sanity, she needed to break through her need to always feel like she's in control. Now that the storm has passed, and she has properly grieved her mother's passing, Gaye can laugh at her own ControlFreakitis and give encouragement to others who have similar struggles.About the guest:Whether she’s speaking at women’s conferences or retreats, blogging, or writing books, Gaye’s not afraid to poke fun at her own mishaps. She brings a blend of Bible teaching, life stories, and humor. Gaye started her own company after a successful leadership career in corporate America. She served as the Midwest Regional Director for Christian Women in Media and is past-president of the National Speakers Association for the Minnesota Chapter. Her most recent book, “Getting My Ducks in a Row and other Stories of Faith,” reminds us that when we don’t have our act together (which, for a lot of us, is much of the time), when we can’t even find our ducks and getting them in a row seems like mission impossible, God is faithful. We can stop fixing, fretting, and striving. Gaye will encourage your soul, refresh your faith, and give you something to giggle about. In our discussion with Gaye, you'll discover:-Gaye's "Faith Breakthrough"...04:05-Needing encouragement dealing with Mom's Alzheimers...08:20-A saint in blue jeans...10:50-Gaye's support system dealing with the chaos...13:35-Responding to the feeling of lost control...15:10-Giving up the need to control and fix...17:20-Not born with a "badge of courage"...24:20-The inspiration behind Gaye's book...26:45-What do people think when they see a glimpse of your life?...29:30-The true meaning of piety...32:15-Overcoming chronic controlfreakitis...36:00Download Gaye's FREE ebook: "Finding a Breath of Fresh Air, And a Way to Start Again" at her website gayelindfors.com

Episode 7: Alive in Spirit After Sentenced to Die in Prison with Carol and Gene Kent
"Can life get any better?" Gene Kent asked his wife Carol as they walked together one autumn evening in upstate Michigan where they had both been born and raised. They were the proud parents of J.P., their only child, who was a recent graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and was now training for his fledgling naval career in Orlando, FL. J.P. had surprised his parents by informing them he was marrying a woman they had never met, but who had a child of her own Carol and Gene could now call their grandchild. Two weeks later, they received news that will make any parent cringe.Their only child had been arrested and charged with the murder of his new wife's ex-husband. After years of wrangling with the legal system in Orlando, J.P. was convicted of his crime and given a life sentence in prison. In many parts of the U.S. a life sentence means a 20 year term with possibility of parole. In Florida, it means you spend the rest of your life in prison. The judge handed down two sentences that day. One for J.P., the convicted murderer, and one for his parents, who would never again see their son live the life of a free man.To this day, Carol and Gene suffer their loss. The enemy of their faith does everything he can to make them feel like failures as parents and as human beings. But with time, community with others who have suffered, and God's grace, a new understanding of freedom has taken shape in the lives of Gene, Carol and J.P. It is defined not by compliance with a legal system, but by identity with the One who suffered unjustly so that all who have sinned can be truly free.In this conversation with Gene and Carol Kent, you'll hear:-Carol and Gene's journey of faith...05:00-Inheriting grandchildren via marriage of their son...10:03-Dealing with trauma and shock in the face of tragedy...16:45-When God appears to be absent, he's the most present...21:30-Truth is the only way to counter the enemy's taunts and lies...24:00-Finding inspiration to write about the traumatic experience...27:50-Identifying your "Isaac"...31:30-Finding comfort in community with fellow sufferers...35:05-Strengthening a marriage through adversity...38:45-Serving through suffering...44:40-Info on Carol and Gene's free book...49:00Text GIVEAWAY to 55444 to receive Gene and Carol's free daily devotionalCarol Kent's websiteSpeak Up MinistriesStaying Power, co-authored by Gene and Carol KentWhen I Lay My Isaac Down by Gene and Carol Kent
