Summertime is well under way and teens home from school may be tempted to spend more time online. To help parents get teens excited about taking a break from their phones, TikTok recently introduced a number of tools and programs to reduce screen time and encourage safe online habits.

This summer, TikTok is partnering with Barnes & Noble to support summer reading with the new #BookTokChallenge. Through August 31, TikTok encourages people to discover and read new books and share their reactions with the TikTok community using #BookTokChallenge. Barnes & Noble visitors can also scan a QR code at participating locations that takes them to a dedicated #booktok hub featuring popular books and bestselling authors across a range of literary genres - all in an effort to unite the TikTok community around the love of reading.

TikTok also offers several tools to help people control their screen time. A screen time management dashboard gives people visibility into how and when they are using TikTok and the ability to set time limits; screen time breaks remind people to take a break after a certain amount of uninterrupted screen time; and several top creators have made short videos encouraging users to take a snack break, explore the city, go outside and rest your body and mind -- which have already generated millions of views.
