ז'ל רש'י

מושלי משלות לתת (אות) אמתלא וטעם לחכמה ליכנס בה בשערי בינה כגון ממשלות שועלים.

כגון ממשלות שועלים, דאמרינן בסנהדרין [לח ב] כי הוי דריש רבי מאיר בפרקא הוה דריש תלתא שמעתתא ותלתא אגדתא ותלתא מתלי:

ר' עובדיה מברטנורא

שהלא היה עוקר הרי הרים ולא ירדו לסוף דעתו, עיין עירובין [יג, ב] וסנהדרין [כד, א].

ורק באשר ענין המשלים, האיש המתעסק בהם לבדם אינו נכבד בשבילם,

וגם חכמה זו אינה מתייקרת בפי כל.

זולת כשהיה רבי מאיר אדם גדול מאוד מתעסק בה,

 והשתמש בה לצרכי תורה הקדושה ומידות טובות,

התעלתה חכמה זו במדריגה רבה ונתכבדה בעיני כל.
