It feels like I am in a cycle and I want to just rest in Christ and truly desire Him but my heart is so dull. -Kaiden Segment 2 I want to buy some clothes online, however I have to make a $1 donation to a company supporting ‘indigenous LGBTQ’ people. I am wondering if this would be sinful for me to participate in since I am directly supporting the act with my money. -Cory Segment 3 If your Elders in the church give counsel–that is not over a black and white issue in the Bible (not over sin), but is what they believe is the most wise in a certain situation–and you don’t take it and they tell you you’re in sin because of it and that you’re wise in your own eyes, and after talking through it and they still want to force the counsel (which makes it no longer counsel, but a command), is that a good reason to leave a church? -Anonymous I have a question about dealing with gossip in the church. How do I handle situations where people might misunderstand me in the church? My parents are leaders in the church, and they’ve advised me not to talk too much about our family because of gossip. There seems to be a lot of hypocrisy in the church, which I’m unsure how to navigate. -Simi I’d tell you a joke about air conditioners, but you probably wouldn’t be a fan. -Andrew Segment 4 Years ago, with an immature conscience, I believed drinking any alcohol was sinful. To avoid sin, I made a vow to God never to drink again. Over the past 20 years, I’ve matured and now understand Christian liberty, recognizing that having a beer or wine is permissible, aside from drunkenness. However, I feel bound by my vow and believe it must be kept because God is holy. I made the vow out of a legalistic desire to control my actions and avoid temptation. Now, I wonder if I was misguided in doing so. -Richard I’m a 15-year-old pastor’s kid, I’ve always grown up in the church and was recently saved and baptized. Our summer camp recently strengthened my faith like never before. I brought a friend from school who seemed ready to put their trust in Jesus. How can I encourage him to take that step? Unfortunately, he’s an unbeliever and often mocks me for being a Christian, remaining very hard-hearted toward the Gospel. One of the few times I see a softening in his heart is when we do father-son activities like fishing. I always have my fishing license, but my dad refuses to get one. Am I sinning by fishing with my dad since he doesn’t have a fishing license? Could I be encouraging him to sin? -Ethan The Church I attend has a band that plays at the beginning and end of service. Lately, I have felt like I attend a 32 minute concert and then preaching and a finale. The songs don’t seem to be very Christian. What are your thoughts? -Timothy I take Matthew 6:18 to indicate that when we’re fasting, we should keep it to ourselves. I was wondering, if you’re married, if it’s ok to tell your spouse. I’m thinking it probably is whereas we are in a one flesh relationship. Also for practical purposes, it would make dinner time less awkward. -Nate Segment 2 Ok, you’ve made your point that A.I. can write a top 40 worship song – but here’s the real test – can it write a traditional hymn with a pipe organ? -Peter What are your thoughts on dating apps? -Timothy Segment 3 What are your thoughts on if Christians have the right to self-defense? -Anonymous I do various forms of craftwork and I like to use Christian imagery in my work. Lately I’ve been wondering though, could the use of symbols like lions, lambs, shamrocks, trinity knots, etc. be breaking the second commandment or be considered “golden calves”? -Sean If we are commanded to not make any images of God (I would presume that includes Jesus) why are Christians so upset about the mockery of a painting that depicts Jesus at the last supper? Why would being anxious be a sin? – Anonymous Segment 4 I am a Christian teacher in a public school. Recently I have been feeling quite pressured to join the teachers’ union. My question is should Christians join unions? -Judith My husband and I have been discussing how busy is “too busy” and what the Bible says about it. We both are involved in a lot. I organize a homeschool coop of moms, I homeschool, teach Wednesday evening kids at church, sing with the worship team, manage the church nursery schedule. Additionally, my husband has significant roles at church and church camp. Is sacrificing in these ways part of the Christian life, or could it be that God doesn’t necessarily want us to take on so much? – Jocelyn Close friends of mine would like to join our church — becoming members — but disagree in some key doctrines such as complementarianism and credo baptism. Do I allow my wife to teach my children the Amish way for unity in marriage, or teach them something different? I’m still attending the Amish church because going elsewhere means my family will likely kick me out. But if the Amish aren’t a true church, am I not going to church at all? I wasn’t saved when baptized – does this mean I’m not baptized at all? HELP! -Jesse Could I please get your thoughts on tattoos? I know there is a prohibition against them in Leviticus, but it seems to have been for the Jews at that time. -Nate Segment 2 Would you say someone who is a devout Catholic would be considered a Christian? She spends most days broken and crying, and it’s taking a toll on the whole family. -Tim Segment 4 I’ve noticed since starting university that I sometimes shake hands with women without thinking, but then feel it’s disrespectful as I view handshakes as masculine. Intuitively, full transparency seems ideal, but maybe there are aspects I’m not considering. Although it’s not a top-tier issue, I believe it’s still important to address. What are your thoughts on the appropriate level of financial disclosure in church budgets? -William I have been experiencing fear and distrust in myself when confessing my sins, as I struggle to believe that I am truly repentant. This fear leads to obsessive thoughts and repetitive Scripture quoting. How can I find assurance of forgiveness and maintain intimacy with God despite my struggles with fear and doubt? – Mitchell Segment 2 Are you struggling with assurance?
