May is Military Appreciation Month and May 18th is National Armed Forces Day. In the spirit of celebrating our armed forces, we sit down with Staff Sergeant Brett David Meil, a Marine Corps instructor with a remarkable story of courage and sacrifice. Born in Amarillo, Texas, and a graduate of Kerrville Tivy High School, Meil's journey into the Marines began in December 2016. After enlisting, he underwent rigorous training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA, before joining the School of Infantry. Today, he serves as an instructor for 7-24 at School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton, CA. But it was during a routine training exercise in June 2023 that Meil's heroism truly shone. When one of his students accidentally activated a live grenade, Meil's quick thinking and bravery saved lives. Despite the imminent danger, he acted swiftly, pulling the student to safety and shielding him from the blast, risking his own life in the process. Join host Anthony DeHart as he sits down with SSgt Brett Meil to delve into the harrowing moments of that day and explore the deep-rooted values of service and sacrifice that drive him. Tune in as we uncover the inspiring story behind why Meil was willing to risk it all for his students.
