Show Notes

The Duke Blue Devils community mourns the loss of Bob Harris, the iconic voice of the team, who passed away following a valiant three-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Bob leaves behind a rich legacy of legendary play-by-play calls, vividly capturing the triumphant eras of Duke men’s basketball under the stewardship of Coach Mike Krzyzewski. Across his illustrious career, Bob narrated five NCAA National Championships, notably Krzyzewski’s inaugural triumph in 1991. He was courtside for Duke’s 1978 Final Four run under Bill Foster. Moreover, Bob lent his voice to 471 college football games, culminating in Duke's triumphant Pinstripe Bowl victory in 2015. Remarkably, he juggled his broadcasting duties with co-hosting morning radio shows in Durham until 1999, even amid Duke's late basketball tipoffs. Fond memories of Bob Harris were shared by his longtime colleague and colorman on Duke radio broadcasts, John Roth, with Jeff Hamlin on the WPTF Afternoon News.
